I have the MoPho rooted but not unlocked. I am using my laptop with connectify to create an ad-hoc network. The MoPho will see the network and see that it is p2p adhoc... but when I try to connect... it says "obtaining ip address...." but never gets one.
has anyone else had any problems with connecting to ad-hoc networks?
do i need to be unlocked for that to work? or something else?
I too tried the same with locked and unlocked bootloaders.
It is some software bug
This is precisely why phone makers need to slow down their phone offspring and just release a few and focus on their problems. Carriers just have these bastard children and then cut the cord and make new babies... while these ones get malnourished and in need of medical support.
A shame.
Yep its a Motorola problem i guess since i managed to connect on my dads HTC Inspire but not on my photon or my sister Atrix =/

I was wondering if it is possible to have all of these combinations installed on the xv6800 for Verizon? Do any of you have all of these?
The only thing I don't have installed right now is WMWiFiRouter but there shouldn't be any reason you can't.
Great, I am thinking about getting this phone today and was hoping someone had all of them installed. Do you think you can install WMwifirouter and let me know if they all work?
I have it working on my xv 6800 with mo problems.

The only item in that list that is a program (which can be installed/unitstalled) is WMWifiRouter..
Have it on mine and good
Yep, it works great, just remember there is a little quark with wmwifirouter in that it is seen as an ad-hoc type of network. It will still dole out IP addresses via DHCP and work with many laptops at the same time like an access point, but for some reason it shows up as ad-hoc to other machines, but it rocks like an access point.
P.S. A note of importance about the Verizon unit: be very careful about changing the ROM on this one as of now there is NO stock ROM/radio flash to restore back to if somthing goes wrong or you do not like what you get or the phone breaks. I am however looking at getting it and will post if I do, but the Sprint unit does have software due to a bad upgrade they released and had to release the old so customers could roll back. VZW will have available when they do an upgrade but not today.
Thanks for everyones help in answering my questions, guess Im off to the store to buy it.

Or at PPCGeeks.
The only issue I've had since upgrading to 6.1 (with WMWifiRouter) is that setting a WEP key seems to break the connection. Could be a WMWifiRouter bug...
Does anyone know if they turned off the 4g radio on the electrify or it was just not installed? I know that uscc turned off the gps in the htc 8600 but you were able to enable it. If it was not removed would a new rom need to be flashed to enable or just a "switch"? Dont have the phone yet but will buy if ever verifyed. USCC wont have 4g till end of the year but if I know them as good as I think I do, they will release crap 4g phones just to get them out and wait till half way through 2012 to release a good one.
Sorry for posting here no one has forum space for the phone yet.
its cool, the electrify is 99% the photon. in fact our kernels can boot yalls phones without any issues. however even if there is a 4g radio (which i wasnt aware that uscc had any 4g technologies) and its disabled, chances are youll need to unlock the bootloader in order to use a kernel that may enable it, at which point.. you lose 4g... its kind of the chicken or the egg crap ya know?
So what you are saying at this point in time when you unlock the bootloader on the Photon you will lose 4g?
You can post here any time, this phone is directly related to us. By the way, you have the right to post even if it's not your phone, (not saying the angry sharks will get mad about your post), lol, but don't fret.

I can say that the Motorola Electrify will have 4g capabilities. It needs the sim card that will be provided by US Cellular to activate the 4g.

I'm pretty sure whatever 4G that USCC has is not the same as sprints. Assuming Motorola simply disabled the wimax chip inside, even if you turned it on, you wouldn't be able to use it (unless USCC has wimax which I don't think they do).
You don't need a SIM card to activate 4G unless you are referring to the HSPA+ "4G" in which case you would be using the GSM part of the phone. Even here, you are limited, as the Photon (and I assume with the Electify) is programmed to ignore domestic radios like AT&T.
During a call to USCC Tech Support about another issue, I asked if the Motorola Electrify would be receiving an update to use 4G once USCC implements it. His response was that the Electrify does not have 4G capabilities, which he was surprised about when he received the information. So, the Electrify sounds like it will only get better with software installations (ICS/CM7), not network capabilities.
EDIT: During a discussion with Motorola Customer Service about my camera (apparently the lens is not supposed to be absolutely tight unless it is being used), I asked about the 4G capabilities of the Electrify. His response was that EVERY new Motorola phone can be 4G, and that a 4G SIM from the phone carrier is all that would be necessary to bump up the mobile data rate in certain areas.
That's good that it may get 4G!
Maybe Motorola can reprogram this in a software update.

Read the above quote. I meant it's good that the Electrify may get 4G, and that can be enabled in a software update.
Im thinking about jumping ship from android (evo 4g) to the titan. One of the biggest things holding me back is the ability to tether for free via USB and wifi with android. Is this an option with the titan?

I have the unlocked UK version of the phone and it does have Internet Connection Sharing in settings for sharing via wifi. Not sure if other versions of the phone will have it. AT&T phones will probably come with it locked down, not sure if unlocking the phone will also allow access to Internet Connection Sharing.
Thanks for the info. Hopefully unlocking the phone will let me tether it. I'm going to wait and see if it works before I buy it.
Would also love some more info. Was able to stealth-tether with my Focus without unlocking/jailbreaking, and that was super-handy since I do it so rarely and don't want to have to add it to my plan...
Now the Focus is dead and I'm 99% likely to be purchasing a Titan tomorrow.

Looks like expansys is carrying the us version now with the hspa+ 850,1900,2100 bands. That one looks non carrier branded so it should work with internet connection sharing. Really curious if someone has a AT&T Titan they have unlocked that allows ICS.

I have it unlocked on Telus. Just tried the internet sharing and funny enough it still says to contact ATT or dial 611 lol.. So I'm with Telus yet I need to contact ATT?? Right..
I have SIM-FREE UK version and can tether on Giffgaff gigabags. No issues at all. No jailbreaking needed, no unlocking of any sorts.
Sounds like the conclusion here is the unlocked unbranded version is okay to to use Internet Sharing.
AT&T locked or unlocked (like me) you are out of luck.
However I'm curious who can actually unlock this feature for an unlocked ATT model. Your current carrier? ATT directly? HTC?
Or are you just screwed?

But do you mean that you don't have this ICS option in your settings list?

Not sure what you mean...
I do have the Internet Sharing option is settings.
When I turn it on it says "Connection not shared - To enable tethering on this device, go to att.com/mywireless or dial 611"
It's unlocked and not on ATT.

oh I meant Internet Connection Sharing.
It more looks like its your SIM that might not be compatible to tether on titan? When I turn it on, it shows me devices I can pair with and then it needs connection using passcode.

Oh, well I assume you're not using an unlocked ATT Titan? I know the unbranded model has no issues with internet sharing.
I was trying to get tethering working as well (at&t titan on Rogers) i phoned around and the HTC rep said tethering needs to be added onto my account. I have a 6GB data plan that does not include tethering (i know rogers says anything over 1GB has it but technically my account does not include it). The Rogers Rep said i would need ot go down to a 1GB plan for them to addon tethering to my account and then the phone should authenticate and work.
Is anyone here able to test that out and confirm?
---------- Post added at 03:22 AM ---------- Previous post was at 03:20 AM ----------
my current theory is that the at&t phone actually authenticates back to the carrier to verify tethering is added onto the account rather than just sharing out its current internet connetion.
if anyone can test and get back to us it might be helpfull

I'd be surprised if that actually worked. However I have speculated a way that should allow unlocked ATT branded Titan users like us to be able to use Internet Sharing. Sadly this won't be an option until the next MS Windows Phone update is rolled out. I'll explain..
When I had my HD7 it was T-Mobile branded unlocked on Wind Mobile. At first it was filled with all kinds of T-Mo apps etc and similarly locked to T-Mo within the OS. But once the updates starting rolling out from MS I forced them to my phone rather than waiting for T-Mo and it essentially made it become unbranded. The Internet Sharing feature was available as an update on my HD7 when the unbranded models received theirs and it was fully functional. So whenever MS rolls out whatever next update there is forcing it to our Titans should make it fully unbranded and at the same time unlock our Internet Sharing feature.
I'm with At&t and can verify that once I switched my plan from unlimited to "4g with tethering" I've been able to use Wifi Sharing. In fact i'm using it right now.
I think it's a value in the registry to check or not. We'll see once we can edit it.

Add me to the list of ppl curious how to do it for free. I very rarely use the option, but I'd like it nonetheless...
Titan on Rogers
I have an AT&T branded Titan unlocked running on Rogers. I had a 1GB plan without tethering and I was getting teh same issue when I tried to enable tethering. So, I phoned Rogers and now I have a 6GB plan which has tethering enabled.
Restarted my phone, same issue.
I think that in order for this to work either I have to update the phone so that it is unbranded (how would I do this?) OR there is a registery key or file that needs to be changed so that the check to the carrier no longer happens.
Hmmmmm....
I think i know what needs to be done. My buddy has a Samsung Focus Flash from At&t (forgot to check but i assume it would give him the same At&t tethering message we're all getting).
Anyways we interop unlocked it and pushed the wifi tethering patch for WP7 and my guess it overwrote the At&t lockdown because he is able to tether without any issues.
Good news is we can get it working - bad news we have to wait for someone to interop unlock the Titan - which so far hasn't been done
This whole thing with tethering is flat getting old. We should have it std on the phone if we have an unlimited plan like I do and some of the others do. This sucks and is a good reason to take our business elsewhere where the feature is included.
I really don't use it much but that is not the point.
Okay, I'm done ranting and raving about this and I am back to normal.
Hi Guys. I posted in the HTC One X (non +) and then noticed this separate forum. Sorry for the repeat.
My company just gave me an HTC One X+ from AT&T since I didnt want an iPhone. Seems like a good device but I did run into one snag.
My previous phone was a Galaxy S2 but was having major battery drain issues with Exchange Server so I thought I would try a different manufacture and keep my fingers crossed. The snag is this: with my SGS2 I was able to use FoxFi (and others) for WiFi tethering/hotspot and it worked great even bone-stock. With the HOX+ it seems At&t has gotten a little smarter and can detect when a program is trying to hotspot and I get taht message saying to call them if I want it enabled when I start FoxFi.
I have the paid version of clockworkmod and that will not work at all - says failed to connect when I hit start in Windows 7. I also have the paid version of PDAnet and that kind of works but the connection get dropped pretty regularly making it unreliable. Not sure if this has anything to do with Att's detections since they did gave me some trouble with the SGS2 as well (not exactly same though).
My question is this: can I get FoxFi to work WITHOUT root? Since it is brand new and not mine technically I hate to start hacking the thing up so quickly. But the tethering is a function I really like.
Thanks
Ernie
My phone is rooted, FoxFi and PDAnet didn't work..

I'm notl 100% sure but i dont think you'll be able to get what you want without being rooted. I'm surprised you had such good luck with the GS2 if it was on att and not rooted. Previous poster did suggest a great tool, been using it for years... But have to be rooted to do so
I don't believe you can actually get WiFi tethering on your phone without paying the extra amount from AT&T if you don't have your phone rooted. I have mine rooted and the hotspot feature works great!
Thanks guys. Thats what I figured. Guess I will have to just do it.
Ya, go figure about the S2. Guess I got lucky with that one.

I just got my HTC One x plus, and I am using PDAnet (free version), and I am able to tether via USB, with no issues. I have been able to do skype calls with no issues at all, browsing the web is fine as well. Tethering via wi-fi is the challenge, I have not been able to find anything that will allow me to do this. I use AT&T and my device is un-rooted.

PDANet works for me but seems to drop me at randomly. Not sure if it has to do with the ATT block.
So does Att have the ability to detect teathering - rooted or unrooted?

with wi-fi and un-rooted, it seems they detect, with USB un-rooted they don't, at least, this is what happens on my end.
Hello everybody!
Today I have read about connecting 3G modem to Android tablet via OTG USB.
So, can't we, owners of non-4G S III, connect 4G modem to S III and make it working?
Maybe, is there a way to take a case, which will cover back of the phone, and to hide under case a 4G dongle, and connect it via cable with charging-and-OTG-in-one. After that we put one sim-card without internet to phone, and one sim-card with 4G internet to this dongle.
May we make 4G dongle working on Android, especially S3?
P.S. Yes, I know, that it's better to buy another phone, but I want to do some experiments with this device.
Sure, go right ahead and let us know how you get on.
You can buy a 4g phone, better spec than the s3 for £150 with lollipop included.
