Sleep mode - HTC Rezound

Anyone know exactly what sleep mode does? The manual says it goes into a low power state but you still get phone calls and texts...what exactly does this do, should we keep it on the stock automatic, or turn it off, or what? I'm confused lol

This is a good question. I wonder if it just throttles down the CPU or something to help conserve battery?

What do you mean by sleep mode?

Never have heard of that mode before. It sounds really useful if it can still receive calls/texts and such. It probably similar hibernate mode on other sense versions but keeps the cdma radio alive to monitor the network.

yeah, i don't know how it works, but it doesn't shut hte phone off.
for the hell of it, i did it from 4am to 10am last night..and throughout the night, i woke up and wanted to check time, hit power, and it turned on as if the screen was just off...and hwen i woek up, it didn't drop from 100-90 so quickly aftrer usage either, which was interesting..

So you turned it on while charging Jay? Maybe I'll give it a shot and set mine from like 1am-7:30am and see what happens.

yep, my plan was to do it overnight while it charged to see if the sudden 5 minute drop from 100-90 was siginificantly decreased when i first wake up..wasn't significant, but it worked decently..then again iwoke up 2 hours after i shut it off and didn't start it until an hour into bedtime lol

It disables 4g/3g when the screen is turned off. I had it on tonight and when I powered the screen back up it was actually in the notification tray and it said what it did.

Oh. i use wifi...so you're saying it doesn't really matter then when I use it? Lol
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using XDA App

I would assume that it mutes the ringer but if it turns off data while you're asleep that's even cooler. I remember JuiceDefender had an option like that.

theres litearlly NO info on it. the manual provides nothing but saying it's a low power state. wish it would explain how, cuz i know for a fact it doesn't shut wifi off or the ringer lol

Nope just disables 3g/4g when the screen is off.

Easy, this is a new feature of this Sense version that allows data connection to sleep dynamically based on the settings(auto/manual). When auto is on it will turn off data when phone is in sleep(screen off causes deep sleep mode), but manual(the time you set is the only time data is off, during screen off).

so wiat wait.....
when it's set to auto, what happens? every time you shut the screen off, 3g/4g turn off?
for that matter, isn't this "enable always on mobiel network"?!?! that turns off 3g after a while.

I leave mine on auto, I am going to test it here shortly to see if there is battery life differences between auto and never.
Here is a picture showing what it does though:

Fyi I tested it...it doesn't shut anything off when the screens off. I woke mine after being asleep for a while and 3g was right on...3g doesn't ever come on that quick on any phone once its turned off. So yeah. I think sleep mode is bs so I turned it off.

Mine sleeps, I've turned it on quick enough to catch the notification pop off of the status bar... Idk if it litterally turns the data radio off but it does sort is hibernate the phone, and I have caught my data being off before too but I'm uncertain if I had it like that or if wifi did it? But it came right back on without me touching anything so maybe it was sleep mode doing it.

I notice that when my Rezound is in sleep mode, sometimes I unlock it and my radio is off, I assume sleep mode is doing this. However other times I unlock it and the radio is on. So my question is, does the sleep mode cycle the radio on and off, like 15 minute pings or anything?

just emailed HTC asking for a detailed explanation on what this does....hopefully gonna find out soon.

Screen responded while "off"

Now I am suspicious of the screen using so much power, and of the phones that are overheating. I was sitting on my couch watching the Bears disappoint me, and kept swiping my thumb upward on the screen as if I was unlocking it. To my surprise, without my fingers being anywhere close to the power buttons the screen turned on and unlocked! I have tried to re-create this and it only happens 1 out of every 10 or 15 times(swiping several times, not just once). If the screen is "off" it shouldn't be drawing any power, and therefor shouldn't come on like that. Might have found a bug! This also sort of leans on the volume bug!
i just tried 50 times and nothing happened.

what? lol i'm trying it now to no avail
I have only successfully gotten it to happen 3 times. All of which where after the phone had been idle for a decent amount of time.
hmm interesting...i'll remember to try and play around to see if it does anything..weird though!
Yea, I didn't even notice it happened at first until I realized I didn't push the lock button. I keep trying to get it to work again.

lol, you never know!
On a serious note, got it a 4th time. I let the phone sit a while, picked it up and started swiping it. Maybe it has to do with the proximity sensor and/or accelerometer being active?
stroking my phone and nothing is happening...
Waiting for the happy ending.
damn man, hate to say but maybe you've got a buggy phone..ive let mine sit fro like 20 min at a time, then i go back and try to do what you're doing..and no amount of touching or swiping wakes her up :\
Damn my phone! Ok, since both the issues my device has are minute and no one seems to be able to recreate them, I am going to ride it out.
If anyone else runs into this let me know! For now I am the oddball.

Caught myself whispering to it while swiping it. Now I have to get a psych consult...
Seriously tried it for 10 minutes straight and couldn't do it. Are you sure that you are not receiving a notification that is waking it up at the same time you are testing it?
And I like being able to turn the volume up and down with the screen off. But my phone goes in a beltcase, not my pocket.

I just tried this, screen is off, music through headphones, volume buttons work just fine. It's not all the way asleep if the music player is running. The iBeats buttons work when the screen is off, too. Although, if you pause for too long, it really does go to sleep, and then you can't un-pause without unlocking and hitting play.

Phone won't stop beeping, like siren sound!

Like 2 am last night, i was woken up the phone making a siren-like noise. I restarted the phone and it stopped. I tried to make a phone call this morning, and and phone started beeping again non-stop and is still going. I pulled the battery out, let it sit for 5 minute, put it make in and tried to make a call again, no difference. Started beeping again and still wont stop. Any body know what the hell is going on?
Thanks in advance!
It's a long shot but try Settings => Sound => Emergency tone => Off.

Did you try a complete wipe? It would suck I know, but you may have had an application go to crap on you. Example: Light Flow is great, but on our phones when the phone is off, it activates the solid green LED. It does this even after a restart. This is a known issue, but it was either force the program to shut down each time or uninstall it to fix it.

Dial the number in the screen shot and then Don't do anything! Your phone should reboot and it'll redo the hands free activation and look for a prl, let it do its thing. It should reboot 1 or 2 more times when it's done looking for its updates and then you should be all set

It's Dead Jim

Last night I was sitting down onto "the thrown" withe the phone in my back pocket....it caught somehow and flipped into the bowl. Screen was off....I immediately put it in rice over night....7 hours later I tried it....no go. She's dead. Dead I tell you!
The first power up went OK....here was a weird couple beeps, but it powered up, then when the OS came up it seemed like there were buttons pressed because it started to wig out. I immediately pulled the battery....next powerup it wen right into bootloader mode......but my computer wouldn't recognize it....third power up it' dead.
Totally sucks.

When it first started having issues and you pulled the battery, you should have put it back in rice for another 8-12 hours.
You should have gave it 2-3 days to dry.

This is right.. If you have any chance of saving the phone, never power it on for a day or so. I don't think rice works that well, i've dropped many phones in water and the best way I have found to actually save the phone is to put the oven on a very low heat, put it in the oven w / the door open, and then let it sit for a day or two.
YMMV, but if you turn it on and it starts acting funky it is almost always 100% dead.
First Cut a hole in a box. ...
Put the phone in the box
And put a hairdryer on low for 6 or so hours.

agreed, my oven has a warm setting that's about 160-200 degrees. Works well to dry out electronics.
take the phone apart
remove motherboard
clean all contacts with at least %90 alcohol.
put back together and you might be working again.

[Q] HELP! "Ghost touch" (Screen unresponsive when it randomly occurs)

HELP! "Ghost touch" (Screen unresponsive when it randomly occurs)
Ok, the best way I can explain what happens to my screen is a "ghost touch"
As in, sometimes when I'm using my phone, there will be a spot that gets stuck on my screen; just like if I was holding one finger on my screen.
This causes my lockscreen to be unresponsive, and even _if_ I am able to unlock to my launcher, I cannot press any buttons at ALL!
I turned on the (Developer Options - Show Touches: "Show visual feedback for touches") when I had a hunch this was happening, so I could try and diagnose where on my screen it was "touching"
This is a screenshot of where it happens:

It's on the VERY far left of the screen. And I have never dropped my phone, I take very good care of it - and it's been in an Otterbox since week 1.
If I touch it when it happens and slide my finger directly up and down; Upwards: it goes about just under the status bar, and Downwards: it goes a little above the lock ring - any further and it snaps back to the same spot.
I _just_ dealt with this for about 30 minutes prior to me writing this post from my phone right now. I had to keep holding the Power key and doing a faux "battery pull" (force restart) - I would try a normal restart, then I would reboot to recovery, then TWRP, wipe my cache/dalvik, carefully clean my screen with lens cleaner liquid (for contacts and glasses) with a soft cloth, using very little liquid as to not get any inside the phone/screen (trust me, I know you're thinking "Oh this dumb guy just got liquid in there and that's whats causing this!" - That's not it! lol)
And as of right now I'm able to use my phone fine, but it _really_ [email protected](king sucks when I get a phone call and pull my phone out of my pocket and am unable to answer my phone because of the "ghost touch" - then I have to spend another 20-30 minutes going through my reboot/clean routine until it works again.
Any suggestions? Has anyone experienced this? (With this phone or any other device?) Should I bring it to a Sprint store? or should I just say "screw it" and get a new phone?
Only problem with getting a new phone, is I plan on switching from Sprint to Ting (Ting uses Sprint towers, and is a pay-as-you-go type of plan) and Ting only allows a VERY small list of devices to be activated under their plan. The Evo 4G LTE being one of them. And if you purchase a new phone from Ting, they charge _FULL_ price (even more I think, for example: I believe a new iPhone is $700+ from their website) and I'm not spending that kind of money. Also, I can't get an upgrade from Sprint and renew another 2 years, so I don't think I can even get a new phone
Anyway sorry for rambling on, I'm just upset... This ghost touch BS is really pissing me off. I want a new phone and can't get one, without paying full price AND has to be on Ting's list.
HELP!
P.S. It's my birthday today, Happy freakin' Birthday to me huh? lol - zmag
Buy a used EVO from eBay. Expect to spend about $70 - $90. I had to replace mine just a few months ago.
My wife and I are both on the same ting plan and our highest bill so far was $43. Not sure what you're paying more, but you'll probably break even in 2 months on Ting. Happy birthday!
Sent from my EVO using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Yeah I'm probably gonna bite the bullet and go in a different direction (thinking galaxy s5, but if I buy from Ting now it's $597)
Or you gotta wait 1 year from release date to use Ting's BYOD - dunno what I'll do yet
Thanks! - zmag
I seem to have found something out about this...
Out of pure frustration, I took my phone and physically tried to bend it (when the ghost dot appeared) - In doing so, it temporarily removed it from the screen.
Do you think it has to so with the screen touching the sensor inside in that area?
It goes away for 30-60 seconds then reappears (probably when the plastic goes back to that spot)
Any input?
Same thing has been happening with me the last few days. Except that when it happens, the screen goes down to the minimum brightness setting. I usually reboot by holding the down the power button. I haven't tried wiping cache but I think i'll try it next time. Any other suggestions?

System services battery drain le max 2 x820

So i was using happily my le max 2 for amost half a year, when this thing kicked in.... System services.... for no reason what so ever, it jumped to the top of the list in battery consumtion. It was devouring entire battery in less than 5 hours! + it made phone red hot (~41*C) with no apps running.
So i started to look for solution.... and i found that factory reset may help, and it did!.... But for a week... After that, guess who's back on top? This time is even worse, some days, it outruns screen in power consuption.
Now, I'm out of ideas on what to do, so Please, help, i really don't want to do factory reset every week or so

I use stock room, the one that came with the phone, and in 5 hrs. System services ate 1052 mah. I'll upload pictures as soon as I become normal member
Okay, looks like phone decided not to eat battery, system services is now really low on battery consumption and battery will last approx 1 day 16 hrs... Dunno what fixed it but it fixed itself overnight :v

factory wipe helps, also you may try to toogle gps on and off ( i noticed system service was going crazy when i launched gmaps and it could not locate my phone on map) or plug in charger and wait, maybe it will end.
For more permanent solution, i recommend to change system, there are plenty roms on this site so pick one and go for it

Google your issue, maybe someone already had this problem and found the solution. If no luck, try changing rom to different one.
I have a theory of what this could be. I have the same problem but my phone also vibrated in short intervals. As if I'd try to unlock it with the fingerprint but it was denied.
So I just disabled the fingerprint-unlock and it ceased vibrating already.
It was really unrealiable anyways so I unlocked it with the other method more often than not.
Just while writing this the phone also already cooled down and a check at the battery-drain shows that the steep downward-dive is now almost flat. So I guess I found it:
An error with the fingerprint-sensor reporting someone is trying to unlock all the time.
