HELP! "Ghost touch" (Screen unresponsive when it randomly occurs)
Ok, the best way I can explain what happens to my screen is a "ghost touch"
As in, sometimes when I'm using my phone, there will be a spot that gets stuck on my screen; just like if I was holding one finger on my screen.
This causes my lockscreen to be unresponsive, and even _if_ I am able to unlock to my launcher, I cannot press any buttons at ALL!
I turned on the (Developer Options - Show Touches: "Show visual feedback for touches") when I had a hunch this was happening, so I could try and diagnose where on my screen it was "touching"
This is a screenshot of where it happens:

It's on the VERY far left of the screen. And I have never dropped my phone, I take very good care of it - and it's been in an Otterbox since week 1.
If I touch it when it happens and slide my finger directly up and down; Upwards: it goes about just under the status bar, and Downwards: it goes a little above the lock ring - any further and it snaps back to the same spot.
I _just_ dealt with this for about 30 minutes prior to me writing this post from my phone right now. I had to keep holding the Power key and doing a faux "battery pull" (force restart) - I would try a normal restart, then I would reboot to recovery, then TWRP, wipe my cache/dalvik, carefully clean my screen with lens cleaner liquid (for contacts and glasses) with a soft cloth, using very little liquid as to not get any inside the phone/screen (trust me, I know you're thinking "Oh this dumb guy just got liquid in there and that's whats causing this!" - That's not it! lol)
And as of right now I'm able to use my phone fine, but it _really_ [email protected](king sucks when I get a phone call and pull my phone out of my pocket and am unable to answer my phone because of the "ghost touch" - then I have to spend another 20-30 minutes going through my reboot/clean routine until it works again.
Any suggestions? Has anyone experienced this? (With this phone or any other device?) Should I bring it to a Sprint store? or should I just say "screw it" and get a new phone?
Only problem with getting a new phone, is I plan on switching from Sprint to Ting (Ting uses Sprint towers, and is a pay-as-you-go type of plan) and Ting only allows a VERY small list of devices to be activated under their plan. The Evo 4G LTE being one of them. And if you purchase a new phone from Ting, they charge _FULL_ price (even more I think, for example: I believe a new iPhone is $700+ from their website) and I'm not spending that kind of money. Also, I can't get an upgrade from Sprint and renew another 2 years, so I don't think I can even get a new phone
Anyway sorry for rambling on, I'm just upset... This ghost touch BS is really pissing me off. I want a new phone and can't get one, without paying full price AND has to be on Ting's list.
HELP!
P.S. It's my birthday today, Happy freakin' Birthday to me huh? lol - zmag
Buy a used EVO from eBay. Expect to spend about $70 - $90. I had to replace mine just a few months ago.
My wife and I are both on the same ting plan and our highest bill so far was $43. Not sure what you're paying more, but you'll probably break even in 2 months on Ting. Happy birthday!
Sent from my EVO using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Yeah I'm probably gonna bite the bullet and go in a different direction (thinking galaxy s5, but if I buy from Ting now it's $597)
Or you gotta wait 1 year from release date to use Ting's BYOD - dunno what I'll do yet
Thanks! - zmag
I seem to have found something out about this...
Out of pure frustration, I took my phone and physically tried to bend it (when the ghost dot appeared) - In doing so, it temporarily removed it from the screen.
Do you think it has to so with the screen touching the sensor inside in that area?
It goes away for 30-60 seconds then reappears (probably when the plastic goes back to that spot)
Any input?
Same thing has been happening with me the last few days. Except that when it happens, the screen goes down to the minimum brightness setting. I usually reboot by holding the down the power button. I haven't tried wiping cache but I think i'll try it next time. Any other suggestions?

I had my Gtablet for a week and after the update, it works fine. Today, when I power up the tablet, the screen just went blank (white screen). I am a novice thus I did not mod the tablet. What happens? I hate to return the tablet since I was starting to enjoy it. PLease advise.
You might try to reload a working firmware. If you have clockworkmod, and a saved image, restore it and see what happens, perhaps a driver got corrupt somehow. If that does not work, it may very well be hardware failure. Take it back to Sears a white screen is just that. Not useable.
Thanks. Guess I need to run over to sears again for another exchange.......This was my second one. The first one just doesn't boot up and this one was working fine until now.
I am having this white screen of death issue. I'm hoping that getting the battery completely drained will reset something and allow me to see the birds again...never thought I'd be wanting to see those birds, but here I am.
Has anyone ever had the blank white screen of death and gotten their gtab to work again?
damn it, same thing just happened to me. I left it unused for 2 weeks, now I turn it on and white screen! not nice
Bump for the sake of my gtab? anyone??

White screen follow-up
I believe that this "white screen" is the equivalent of when you see a "No Signal" notification on your HDTV. I'm pretty sure that the tablet is running fine, it's just not outputting video to the LCD. I didn't have a dock to do video out to verify this, but I am fairly certain that's what was happening here.
I had to RMA mine. If anyone has other results/info, please let me know.
The first gtab I bought when it started had a white screen that you could hardly see anything and it blinked. I took it back to office depot and got a new one.
Follow-up White Screen (more info), using HDMI output
Have the same problem with my second GTablet. However, I bought an external dock that has an HDMI output for the GTablet. With the working GTablet, when I plug it into my television, the television mirrors the output of the screen perfectly. With the white-screen tablet, only the television shows something. As I am a basic hardware guy, I guess there are two reasons for this:
1. The flex cable between the display and the computer is loose/broken.
2. Something in the electronics is wrong.
I have received an RMA number for this problem from Viewsonic, although they may just look at it and send it back to me. Any other experiments that people want me to try while I can still see on the external?
Otherwise, I'm just gonna send it to Viewsonic in a couple of days and wait 15-20 business days.
G Tablet White Screen
I have had this lately too. Once in a while when i turn my Gtab on the screen is white. When it first happened, i assumed it was bricked. I tried doing a update.zip back to stock...nothing...just white screen. Then when i was in the process of doing the update.zip flash again, i bumped the bottom, right corner of the tab on my desk and the screen all of a sudden when back to normal, showing the home screen. Now, if it does this white screen business, a simple tap on the right side usually brings it back to normal. I would also assume this is a loose connection of some sort. Anyone cracked the gtab open and been able to find where the screen connection is located? I bought my gtab Jan 14 2011 so it is out of the return window to Sears, and i haven't called Viewsonic for assistance yet as i fear i won't get very far with them. Any help is greatly appreciated!
Triple Love Tap Fix on Bottom Right Corner for White Screen Fix ... Back to Normal
After reading the last post, I tried a triple love tap on the bottom right corner on a white-screened g-Tablet, and voila. It's working again. The Internet is a grand thing. This love-tap thing is clearly undocumented Viewsonic security feature.
As for reference, I did break it open and tried to figure out where the flex cable went, but it's a pretty tight SoC design and when I removed the cover, the connection seemed to be sandwiched between the motherboard and the touchscreen itself. Not wanting to remove the 5 various cables and 3-4 various buttons floating around, I gave up at this point.
If I have to periodically do a love-tap, well so be it. At least, I'm not spending $600 for Motorola Xoom. Thus is the fate of cheap bastards like myself who like to play Fruit Ninja on the cheap.
I can't believe this worked!! "Love Tap" to the right corner brought my white screen back as well.
Bump really works, thanx!
i can't believe the bump worked. I took it apart and looked inside at every connection. I was about to throw it away and then i found this post. I did the bump and it's back to normal.
Another "love bump" success!
Just had it happen to mine this morning -- blank white screen. I did a love bump as suggested, and the screen is back! Definitely sounds like a connection issue, but I don't recall bumping it before it blanked out. I'll just keep fingers crossed that it doesn't happen again.
BTW, for anyone else who needs to do this -- it's definitely a "bump" compared to a "tap". I had to give it enough oomph that I could have craked a walnut with my palm under the same force. Not a "whack" but a "bump" compared to "tap"
WTF WITH VIEWSONIC/USMERCHANTS! I Live in Mexico, I sent (paid..) my tablet to the US for warranty (white screen, the tapping doesnt seem to work with me..) they recieved it, send it back to a friend in the US and he sent it back to mexico (PAID AGAIN).
Just recieved my gtablet, turn on, white screen, nice they didnt even touch the friggin thing!
WHAT THE F...
Ok, bumping this thread again, and letting you know.
Since I was pissed, I opened up my gtablet! Well to letting you know, the CONNECTOR that goes FROM the motherboard to the LCD...was completely loose and not completely connected. This has to be a factory fault, since well, its almost impossible for it to disconnect! Anyway, My tablet is working just fine now, (after 4 months ¬¬)....I will try to get my shipping money back from US Merchants, bastards.
RAWR!
[REQUEST] A permanent solution than periodic love "tap/bumps"
Can you post a picture of the connector? I broke open my tablet before, but I was unable to locate this loose connection. Although I find the current solution very amusing/charming , I would like to have a permanent solution on this thread.
For long term care of the tablet, I've had to do this solution about once every 2-3 months on my 6 year old son's tablet. He had the tablet with the original problem and he may occasionally drop/jostle the thing more than I. So, for the lifetime of this product, the love tap/bump may be an acceptable solution. However, it is clearly a loose connection problem, and more information on your solution would be very helpful to the community.

I draw a Red Square in the "affected part".
In the top of the square is one end of the cable, in my case this was correct. The other end is underneath the motherboard, so you have to take out all the screws for the motherboard to check the other end, this was completely off.
I dont know if this will help everybody, because I gotta say for myself, the bumping in the bottom right didnt worked for me, not even once and I SMASHED the thing really hard!
Cheers
Paul
edit:
BTW, US MERCHANTS warranty told me someone screwed up on their side, I should have gotten a new tablet ¬¬. Anyways, I'm trying to make a deal with them, since I paid like 50 dls for shipment (I live in Mexico..) and they didnt do anything. Will let you know maybe I get a free dock!!!
A few weeks ago my Evo 3D started to turn off on its own at random times andwon’t turn on until took the battery out. I did some searching around andnoticed that many people are having the same problem. Also, I have noticed thatmany suggestions were that some app is killing the phone. Well after diggingaround in my phone and un-installing all apps, the phone was still doing it. Inthe last few days I accidently shut the phone off by just moving the batterywhile it’s in the phone. After some more messing around, the phone does shutoff when I push the battery away from where it touches the metal prongs on thephone. If anyone else having the same problem can test out my fix, it would begreat.

that sounds good, but i couldnt find this anywhere.
I guess I should have said "a few" people. I think a loose battery or bad connection can cause random reboots and shutdowns. If you search for those terms you may find some more threads. Here is the one I was thinking of.

i was having the same issue but i read on some posts that the radio was an issue
so i had the old radio on my phone i only flash the newest radio and since then i haven't got no reboots...already a month and my phone is working fine...
My problem is related to ambient temperature. If it is above 90 out it restarts randomly. I go inside and it is fine. This is related to nothing else.
I went to the park with my kids this weekend and had no restarts because it was 70 out. I was at the same park doing the same things a few weeks ago...it restarted every 5 minutes.
After 2 weeks of cool weather, it restarted today because I am wearing black jeans (it was in the pocket) and it is 80 out.
I am going to exchange it AGAIN--I had the same problem with the last one.
I had that problem with my 2nd EVO and they replaced it at the Sprint store. That was a couple days after my 30 days

My dog seemed to break my phones ability to charge. What is the process of replacement? Do I go to verizon and just ask for a replacement?

I've told Verizon that my phone wouldn't charge anymore, and I was vague with the details and they sent me a replacement that I got within a day or two.

You can call Verizon and explain that your phone no longer charges and they will overnight you a CLNR (certified like New replacement)

Ive used the "my phone doesnt charge" anymore a few times.
my call goes like this:
Hi, my phone doesnt charge anymore. I tried buying a new battery, and I used my wifes charger and cable, but it still will not charge. Then I tried a factory reset and it still doesn't charge
okay sir, looks like you have already done all the trouble shooting steps, ill send you out a replacement, does tomorrow work?
yes.. yes it does
Stop letting your dog use your phone! If there is no physical damage to the phone I was told once that they will do it in-store, otherwise you have to call Verizon/Asurion.
Only call assurion for a physically/water damaged phone. Always call Verizon technical support and tell them it won't charge. If you pay for TEC they will replace the phone free forever as long as it is not physically/water damaged. The chance of a replacement phone in the store is about 10%. Mainly it will only happen if you are within the 30 days of buying the phone
Thanks for the clarification, I've only had to replace two phones in two years so I don't have that much experience with it, both times I called Verizon and they told me to call Asurion. The time I got offered the in-store replacement was about a year after I got my OG Droid and the power button stopped working, it was a little beat up so they couldn't re-sell it immediately.

Total Equipment Coverage.
It's insurance and the extended warranty in a bundle.
If there is ANY physical damage to the device when you return it VZW will charge you $300+. That is if you request a warranty exchange.
There's no damage, but I do believe when my dog slipped off my bed she took the cable with her, bending the charging port of my phone, if that makes any sense lol

That sorta happened to me with my older HTC phone. I yanked the car charger too fast, at an angle. I sent the phone in and got a new one back.
As long as there no physical marks (i.e. teeth marks), if you play stupid and say that the phone just won't charge anymore (make sure you say you used the OEM charger, bring it in if need be) you should be able to get by with another phone. Remember those phones still have warranties.
My attitude, is if they are going to put stuff like watermarks in their phone that detect if it got in contact with moisture, if they can't prove it's damaged without physically take the phone apart then the burden of proof is on their end
Hi all.
Looking for some advice about what to do with my replacement n10...
I asked for a replacement of the first as there was noticeable dimming down one edge of the screen, and Google were happy to RMA.
The replacement has a better screen but 3/5 times I go to turn the screen on it stays off, and takes repeated hitting of the power button (usually three times) to get the screen on.
I thought this may be a software issue but it occurred on both stock software and cm10.1,and didn't occur on the original one.
The question is;what do I do now? I have two faulty tabs, and the new one is worse than the original. I'm worried Google will receive either back and decide the faults aren't severe enough and charge the card restocking fees, or I will receive a third with faults. Have I just been unlucky so far?
It is worth noting that the original had the seals broken on the packaging and the replacement had one seal gone.
If the screen is nice you should do a warranty repair with Samsung. Call the number on your card in the box and press the phone option and then nexus s. That should get you a rep that can help you (the tablet people have no idea how to get an RMA number for a nexus tablet).
Conversely you could just get can other RMA. Then you run the risk of getting a worse screen.

Well I went ahead and tried the RMA lottery, and boy am I glad.
In the last couple of days it has become apparent that the battery on the replacement is absolutely broken. It doesn't report correct charging levels at all, and doesn't charge properly. This is on top of the power-on button issue (which I am sure is related).

The above battery stats screenshot was taken this morning after the tablet had completely died, and been on charge overnight, switched on this morning and left for ten minutes.
Totally loopy!
I had the same problem with mine. Good screen with broken battery management. Also it would take 20 seconds for screen to turn on after hitting the power button. It would power off when I took it off the charger or sometimes show dead battery with full charge. Hope your next one works out for you.
Hello guys,
I have a LG G5 H850 since the release in the UK with Vodafone.
Last week, got an update On The Air to the v10c, but then my power button suddenly stopped working (or it is a big coincidence)
Symptoms:
- When the phone is off (battery removal), can't turn it on only with the power button. Only way is to plug it to the USB cable and it automatically restarts the phone (so weird.....)
- When the phone is on
--> lock screen activated, I can't unlock it by pressing the power button.
--> lock screen not activated, I can't lock the screen manually neither by pressing the button.
Also, the fingerprint sensor works perfectly fine....
I tried the following to fix it without any results:
- Hard reset (Factory reset) through the settings
- Safe mode to check if an app could be the reason...
- Wanted to try to flash to the factory v9h rom but could not find it unfortunately.
I tried to contact LG customer service but they answered me 3 days later with a pre-made answer for the G4
Anyone experiencing the same issue ?
Is it hardware or could it be software ?
Any other things I can try ?
Cheers
Lyn.
I doubt that this is a Software relatet Bug, otherwise it would turn on using the button once the battery was removed.
I guess you can't reach the download mode either, otherwise I would recommend you to flash the V10a kdz and Cross your fingers.
Swapping the phone in a local Store isn't possible? If so, try it.. You won't get a repaired phone in near future as the repair facilitys don't have the needed parts yet and you'll be stuck with no phone for a while.
Thank you for your (quick) answer Savoury.
Yes I have some time to loose tonight, I will give it a try to this older version if I manage to find the kdz.
Keep you updated !
Cheers
Power button / fingerprint scanner just stopped working on my LG G5 tonight.
Don't know if it's related or not, but it seemed like I had just wiped the phone clean with a Wet-Nap just prior to the button failure.
Weird, because I've been using Wet-Naps to frequently clean all of my phones for years,
and never had an issue before. I attached a pic of a Wet-Nap for reference below.
Also, when I go in to SETTINGS and search FINGERPRINT, nothing comes up in the SETTINGS for adding or removing fingerprints.

As of this morning:

- the power button will NOT turn OFF the phone's screen anymore
Any explanations ????
Here's my answer I just posted on another thread. Hope this answers your question. I had the same problem. Nothing I can do with it now and it was out of warranty. Still works fine. Just a nuisance.
"Hi there just wanted to mention my experience from today. I bought a g5 with the power button not working but the fingerprint scanner did. I ordered a part from eBay and replaced it fine.
Then when I put it back together, it wouldn't turn on still. I took it apart about 3 times and tried to redo it until someone online mentioned to clean the gold pins with rubbing alcohol... Well I was getting ready to do that when I looked at the pins on the motherboard that makes contact with the power button part and.... A gold pin was missing. A drop or something must've made it fall out. I barely touched the one next to it and that one fell out. It had a hook that went to the underside of the metal thing and it popped out of my tweezers and I was never able to find the piece after that....
What a dumb design that they made. Those pins should not be there without being attached to the metal that's there"
I bought a refurb G5 and power button would only turn off the screen if pressed 4 or 5 times in a row. But I was able to fix it by simply taking a Q-tip with Isopropyl rubbing alcohol and pressing the button down while giving it a rough cleaning. What happens is that fingerprint oils and other gunk get stuck inside the button but after you clean it out with alcohol it was working good as new.
May take 3 cleanings total to restore it back to 100% performance. But certainly try that before swapping out any parts. This is a known issue with the power button on G5 and a cleaning with qtip and alcohol will fix the problem 90% of the time
I fixed this buy buying a new button. I installed it with a phone repair kit, a blow dryer, and a new button.
You can find them on amazon. You'll find a few videos online on how to do it. It's an easy repair.
The hardest parts are getting the phone apart (careful about breaking the thin material at the edge) and heating the glue to remove the existing plate covering the button. Consider buying a new plate for this button too, as you may damage the old one taking it off. You might need a high strength glue to reinstall the plate.
It works like new now, even though my phone GPS is toast regardless lol.
