evo view 4g, honeycomb user guide - HTC Flyer, EVO View 4G

Hi everyone, I've just notice that in the HTC evo view 4g official website, under support -> download page, a "view 4g user guide - honeycomb" was recently added on Monday, Nov 14. Does this indicate that view 4g will get honeycomb update soon?
I don't think I can post links on the board yet, sorry about that.

Hi,
Link to the document -> http://htc.com/us/content/documents/HTC_EVO_View_4G/20111020_Sprint_EVO_View_4G_UG.PDF
I guess this means we are edging closer to a release..

Cool, and there is a pic of an official Honeycomb Swype keyboard on the View in that manual. Shouldn't be too much longer.

Why no description of the Scribe pen technology ? Isn't it supposed to be systemwide in Honeycomb?

the view docs are terrible, compare them to the jetstream docs.

the point is that there were only a user guide for view 4g - gingerbread, which was uploaded sometime back in the summer, and now the honeycomb version of the user guide just popped up on Monday, may indicate the honeycomb update is around the corner... I do have to agree with you that the user guide is next to useless...

The point is, there was a questiion about the pen.

my guess is going to be that since the HTC scribe is a seperate product, they left the pen out so that they could stop including the pen at a future point if they wanted to without everyone pestering them with "but the user guide says you could".

yeah, not everyone wants or buys the pen. It's a separate product.

The manual is gone now, you can only see the gingerbread version of the manual...... maybe there isn't a honeycomb to begin with, it was just our imaginations... I need to go to the doctors, because I'm starting to seeing things...

Confirmed the manual is definitely gone. I was hoping the flyer would be something more when I bought it. Unfortunately, I was foolish to buy it for what it could be, rather what it is. I think it's going back to the store. Now I have to figure out what to do with these accessories I bought online.

Yes, of course. I wouldn't expect it to stay on the tech support page, though, until Honeycomb is officially released.

hopefully the official release date isn't too far... maybe htc is done with the hc development, and right now it's sprint who is holding up the release, because sprint need to dump all their bloatware in first...

You weren't foolish at all.
The Flyer is hands down the best built, highest performance tablet on the market until the Asus Prime Tegra 3 hits the market.
We have had virtually every tablet going - Acer, Asus, Archos, Samsung - and they all went back and the Flyer stayed
So what the Flyer is running Gingerbread 2.3.4 - - far better that than buggy and unstable Honeycomb.
Until the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 comes out - we still take the Flyer over any other 7" tablet currently available - and the Samsung 7.7 is likely to cost well over $500

Don't get me know, I like it a ton, but running 2.3.4 is severely limiting to me. I want the pen input for art apps. It's the perfect size for sketching, but until HC comes to it...it just doesn't work at that.

Dear Will -Godzson,
I understand you would like information about updates for your device. I know how important it is for your device to be up-to-date. However, before releasing a ROM update we have to be sure that the software is going to work properly on your hardware and on your carrier’s network. This testing does take some time but will result in an update that is optimized to work on your device and on your carrier’s network. While we want to release software as soon as we can we will only do so once the software has passed our quality standards.
At this time we do not have any information about an update for your device. When the update is released it will be announced on HTC.com and/or our official social media outlets (our official Facebook and Twitter pages).
To send a reply to this message or let me know I have successfully answered your question log in to our Contact Us site using your email address and your ticket number *************.

We know it exists, in some cases we even know of people who have access to it, we just haven't managed to convince anyone with access to leak it.

ROM version 2.73.728.5 anyone?

There are a few people on the web reporting their HTC Hero is running a 2.73.728.5 ROM. I wonder if anyone here has seen this in the wild and could report whether this is a provider customized 2.73.405.5 or yet another new build?
And, with the release of Donut, I hope we have another update coming this side of Xmas!
Whatever that Hero update contains, it'd better sort out Bluetoothing. When I say Bluetooth I mean by way of file sharing with other phones not just with a headset.
Anyone get an answer from HTC about sorting this Bluetooth filesharing issue out? I've tried tweeting HTC, but get no reply.
P.S. the market apps don't work, even with root access. Sending AND receiving. Come on HTC sort this out, it would make the Hero a killer phone.
I honestly don't see how BT filesharing can be a big issue. Maybe a nice feature. I doubt it's on anyone's 'urgent list' at HTC or Google.
Airtel (India) comes with a factory default of 2.73.720.5.

Well, it really should be considering that any old phone can do it these days, yet top of the range smartphones like the Hero can't do it? Ridiculous.
Maybe not an important thing in the US, but it is widely used globally. Research by Microsoft and MTV shows 75% of European 16-24 yr olds) 'Bluetooth stuff' to their friends. It's huge in Asia also.
You can do it on most HTC WinMo phones. I am frankly embarrassed when a friends asks me to bluetooth them a song or photo and I have to admit I can't.
I can see why Apple don't want to do it on the iphone, as they dont like the idea of moving music from one phone to another, but Android has no such ideological reasons for doing it, just a massive oversight.
Check out: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=1725
Plenty of people there who want it.

IN fact its the second most requested item: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/list

I have that exact ROM build. I just received my HTC Hero and I love it. I could not tell you the difference in builds, but the HTC website states im not eligible for their latest ROM upgrade to 405. I bought mine online unlocked and using on the AT&T/Cingular Network in S.Carolina. Works just great with Wifi, on Edge, I dont have any Bluetooth devices, but soon to get some.

I think part of the reason it was handed out (besides publicity for Samsung) was to get some developers a real 3.X device to do any development on, and write some app, any app. Google needs Honeycomb apps up on the market, bad. At that point not having 3.1 yet isn't that big a deal. The Honeycomb emulator is a pile of suck and Google admitted as much at the conference, so this is a way to get people making stuff.
And if they can't directly OTA these things up to 3.1 from the gimped version of 3.0 that's on them right now, that doesn't seem like that big a deal. Google/Samsung can always email people instructions to go flash a zip; if you got on a plane to SF to go to an Android developer conference then an "adb push" and reboot should be a piece of cake for you

HTC Flyer with HC not supporting tablet/HC apps

Hi,
I just pursached my Flyer last week. I inmediatly made the Root from globatron´s guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1358758
No problem with it, and all works fine. But know I have seen that I cant see/download apps from market wich are specifically for Honeycomb, although my Flyer runs Honeycomb. All the stock apps like Youtube, Maps... work with the Honeycomb skin, but I cant get new ones, and other apps like Google Docs or AstroZip are working with the Phone skin, not the Tablet Optimized view....
See the atachments below...
Can you help me??
I see you are looking for google body.I read somewere the they sold the software to a company named Zygote. You can subscribe on the wesite and they will notify you when the software is ready.
Www.zygotebody.com i think.

@berbecverde @mcord11758 Thank you for your replies, but I´m not interested in Google Body. That was just an example of Android 3+ -only App. But I recently discovered that I do see on the Market the Honeycomb-only apps.
Know I just want to know why my HTC Flyer, that is running Honeycomb, cant be identified as a Honeycomb Tablet by the Apps I download. See the example of Google Docs, wich is shown as in my Android Phone, and not like in other Tablets.
If you take a look at my new atachments, you can see the difference between Phone/Adroid 2x,(left) and Tablet/Honeycomb (right)
You actually got the title of your thread wrong. The Flyer supports HC and HC apps, but many short sighted developers considered tablets to be only the 10" devices with 1200x800 screens and so coded their apps only to that specification.

Along the lines of what I was going to say. Its not a case of the Flyer not supporting the apps or being able to see them on the Market; but rather a case of the individual app developers not supporting our hardware.
If what you say is true, I find absurde that for example the GMail or the Youtube Apps are looking like in other 10" Tablets, but the Google Docs isn't, as they are all from Google...
Maybe its a bug on my Flyer?? Could anyone of you test the Google Docs App on your Flyer and tell me how is it showing?
Thank you!
My Google docs looks exactly the same as yours.
My docs bigger than yours...
In all seriousness, there's nothing wrong with your device. As mentioned above, developers are only recently receiving the support necessary from Google to properly develop for the huge spectrum of devices, all with varying specifications. It's slow going, but should pick up momentum soon.

Just wait till Samsung drops their 11.5" 1600 x2000 pixel display behemoth on the Android world.
And is there any way to trick the Flyer so that its recogniced as any other bigger tablet in order to let the apps show like on the bigger tablets???
Maybe with a ROM?? Can LeeDroiD HC do that??
I would think some simple build prop edits would likely do the trick.
what mccord said. i made my incredible think it was like the galaxy s 2 so i could download modern combat 3 when it was 99 cents lol
If anyone can give a slightly more in depth explanation than that, I think several of us would really appreciate it. Thanks!

Your build prop has lines in it that identify the manufacturer of your device and the model. If you switch these bits with that of another device you would likely be able to fool the market
Sent from my HTC Flyer P510e using xda premium
Edit
Basically this, inserting the appropriate line from a 10 inch tab. Not sure the end result will be usable apps
Now, edit that file from your PC with your choice of text editor. You might want to back it up / copy it first. Find the line that starts with ro.build.fingerprint= and replace the whole line with:
Does anyone know if changing the LCD density would help resolve some of these issues? I know some guys used to do that in the Nook Color forums to get some apps working, but that was specifically on Gingerbread (CM7). I don't know if things work differently on HC or not.

Correct and since HC was leaked it changed. Many apps are now also available for the Flyer HC.
But first I thought I was back in the 80th, where other developers make the mistake to think that a screen always have a fixed resolution.
But: A tablet is a tablet and not 1280x1024 pixels

No, it is the panel layout which google promotes in his own guidelines.
Our Flyer is not wide enough for the 3-panel layout from google docs. Therefore this application switch to the 1-panel layout.

Well at least we can confirm that the HTC One X and EVO 4G LTE have been impounded by customs here in the US and are no longer for sale..... Thanks to Apple, so HTC ain't making a lot of people happy this month.
And this quote "This is because this update is not compatible with this device. HTC has tested this update extensively on the HTC Flyer and can confirm that this device is not capable of running this update. "
..............is straight out the Google / Vendor Android support agreement
Yeah the one where Google tried to force all the vendors to support with updates for 18 months. No vendor would sign up to that, so they inserted this escape clause in the agreement. 18 months IF THE DEVICE IS COMPATIBLE with the update.
HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA LOL LOLLOOLLLLLL extensive testing my A$$.....
HTC's testing amounted to "does this make us money? ...NO, , OK it's not compatible then !!"
The least they could do is to release the source code of whatever build (if any) they have been testing Flyer with, to the community!!
Incompatible with ICS..that is complete bulls***..we had a very similar response from Samsung when we asked for GB update for Galaxy 3 (my current phone). Thanks to a very active developer community here on XDA, we have not only multiple GB ROMs (including CM 7.2) but also ICS now..hope something similar happens to Flyer..screw HTC!

Even if the CSR knows nothing, what's been said before still applies. If HTC considered updating the Flyer to ICS, we would have seen leaked ROMs or at lease some leaked shots or videos of the device running it.
That being said, I highly doubt HTC plans any updates for us.

Actually, that's not quite true. While they may not be part of the decision-making process, someone in HTC management drafted a response for the reps communicating with customers. This is the information that has been approved to share outside the company by this person. Someone is Legal or PR may have more information, but techs and CSRs only have what management gives them.

Yeah the one where Google tried to force all the vendors to support with updates for 18 months. No vendor would sign up to that, so they inserted this escape clause in the agreement. 18 months unless THE MANUFACTURE DETERMINES THAT THE DEVICE IS NOT COMPATIBLE with the update.
It doesn't matter anyway, any update we get will just be slow, laggy, and buggy. It would be nice for developers but then again the hc update was so bad developers couldn't fix it either so yeah it doesn't matter.
Anyway I say the csr doesn't know what he's talking about because this is the third different thing they've said recently. They told me on Facebook that they are still evaluating, they told another member August, and they told the op its not compatible. Who's actually giving the right answer?

A honeycomb minor upgrade for the current bugs would be much better and more probable if many users mention the GPS issue since it's important. This update might bring other minor bugs if demanded a fix for the Current honeycomb.

I think it would be the better option. An ics update would just be rushed and buggy. Fixing honeycomb would do more good. It's more than just Gps, honeycomb runs slower, and uses more battery. I don't care about hardware buttons though, honeycomb isn't designed to use them anyway and I prefer the virtual buttons as they are better placed.

Indeed, the Flyer is your only so far shelf and it will not be entitled to benefit from last improvements in google.
We do not understand your approach knowing that this product has one year old! From a customer relations standpoint, it is totally outrageous.
There may be a technical problem because the Developers are most certainly the height to solve some technical problems. If it turns out that this is a business decision, we think this is a huge mistake and that it wrong in the sense of logic, why private that a better enchant owners.
Other products have also seen a change radical from you.
We ask you to please rethink your decision on the judgment of the SHIFT shelf Flyer because it is your duty as provider mobile phone to offer the best services and follow-up to these clients to be missed manner most who follow you from the beginning.
The angry customers! ...

People...HTC is not obligated to provide us anything besides basic hardware/software support. They are not required to give us a upgrade, heck they aren't even required to give us bugfixes. When you buy a tablet or phone you are buying it with the current software load, meaning you need to make sure you are happy with what it runs and how it runs. Can we PLEASE stop beating this horse?

Hello,
It's your perspective and you've made, it is!
This is not the generality of people who think that, already after just seven months of existence, it simply removes purtement and the evolution of the tablet, this is not normal.
They are not obliged to provide it to us for free, okay, at least that we are proposing an alternative to évolution.
Knowing that the products were sold frozen and for the typical person, not necessarily easy to change OS as two shirts!
If you can afford to buy every two weeks, good for you and too bad for us ...

@thewadegeek:
As far as I recall, there is some kind of agreement between Google and the main manufacturers to give proper support/updates for products for at least 18 months after its initial release.
Now, as the HTC Flyer has been released < the mentioned 18 months I expect HTC to honor that agreement.
And please do not forget that the HC update was rubish and should not be called an update but a downgrade (as some features do not work (as well) as they did before).
If you would own a car, and for some reason they upgraded some kind of software @ the garage which resulted in non functioning blinkers/signal lights and you had to put your hand out of the the window everytime you are about to switch lanes or make a turn in order to warn the other drivers about your actions, would you accept that? I WANT MY HARDWARE BUTTONS BACK!!!
Everyone is free to make his voice heard and if you don't like topics like this one, than please .. by all means .. stay out.

It's SUPPORT not upgrade, and in no way does SUPPORT entail a UPGRADE.

First off I LIKED the upgrade, so you can't make a blanket statement calling it rubbish. The pen support with Honeycomb is pretty slick and I enjoy it. Second that's not a valid comparison, in that case they removed REQUIRED functionality, in this case they just replaced it with something else. And if you want your hardware buttons back then downgrade, or install Lee's Honeycomb. Viola. Your last statement is TOTALLY contradictory friend, first you says we can all make our voice heard, and then you tell me to stay out. Also the purpose of a forum is for discussion, you all seem to just want people to agree with you. I'm just getting tired with everyone starting a new petition or "HTC sucks" thread. If you feel betrayed then deal with it, HTC has done nothing legally wrong so everyone is stuck.
What are we talking about? What in the world is a SHIFT Flyer Ics? Is this a petition to ship Flyers with Need for Speed SHIFT on them? I'm confused

Lol. ( its just Google translate)
To all:
Something is not happening right. We are arguing on wrong issues. Some points I noticed and I would like to emphasise upon are:
1. Yeah they gave us honeycomb. But its not perfect. Chiefly the internet browsing experience. Internet is the soul of computers, tablets, smart phones, ipads etc. and we need a solid browser to experience it, which is not there. It leaves a lot to be desired considering:
a. Flyer has 1gb ram, a powerful processor, 1 GB system ROM, Enough Internal Memory
b. Initially it was sold for exorbitant price (700$+, though mine 32 gb, 3g cost $390)
c. It was told by Google about an year back that all devices should be supported till 18 months.
Yeah, flyer has beautiful features like pen, hd cams, srs, mhl out, brilliant screen, top battery. But it lacks a solid browsing experience. In my view what the majority of us want is a solid browsing experience. Now that comes with a HC update or ICS update will not matter to me.
Many people are talking of broken GPS. If its really broken, then its HTC's duty to repair it, not the developers'. If its not broken, we should forget about this issue. Now if someone says it requires just a change in config file to repair it, I agree to it but this small repair forces you to root and risk bricking.
On another note of doctorlirio campaign: he should not have raised the issue of GSM calls with HTC. HTC didn't give us calling functionality, xda did.
So, why we are always wanting better? Because it has become our need and habit to stay ahead and overcome the weaknesses of our devices. We can't stand any weakness in our devices. And for me, a solid browsing experience is my primary need where my flyer doesn't satisfy me fully. Whether its HTC or developers, we always want better for our devices.
( though opera mobile works a little better in browsing, but sometimes ( may be often) it also fails to function perfectly on high load web pages.)
Lastly, I feel that, its a little too late now for us to keep chasing HTC. ( though HTC is to blame for a weak internet browsing experience and those who paid exorbitant sums for buying this are even more right in blaming htc)

I came to that conclusion today about Web browsing actually. I wanted something that would be as useful as a laptop and Web browsing has never been stellar on it. And the best Android Web browser isn't available on it!
Senseless helps with browsing big time but unfortunately I still find myself grabbing the laptop and getting frustrated with the browser when I need to get something done.
As for everything else its perfect but the one thing I bought it for is its greatest weakness. I didn't buy it expecting any update, but I was hoping we'd get ics to fix the Web browsing. Web browsing is fully gpu accelerated in ics and my phone whether I'm running chrome or the stock htc browser is pc quality. The flyer is more akin to my old captivate.
Firefox might be the answer if they ever optimize it for tablets
