HTC Rezound NO SERVICE + NO DATA if battery door removed??? - HTC Rezound

I just found out if you remove the battery door you get no service or data since the antenna connectors are on the battery door itself, this is lame! what if the door becomes loose over time, i wouldnt think they would do such thing.. The second i pop off the bottom part, data is gone, and once top doesnt touch the service is gone.

Thunderbolt was same way and my signal is still going strong.

So that's what all that stuff is inside the back. That's pretty interesting, I just tried it and my data connection from 4G to 3G and from 2 bars to none.

yep it sucks in the way incase you do anything for example get different types of batteries or doors might have trouble with them.

If you get oversized batteries, then you get the oversized doors. Easy enough. I also have a Thunderbolt with the same type of door and never had a problem with it. More nitpicking.

Yeah Idk why people are complaining about this. Don't run around with your back cover off like an idiot and you won't have problems lol. I don't see this as being an issue for any of us.

Agreed, I think it's actually a pretty clever way to place the antenna.

as far as the "coming loose" bit goes, I had that happen to my Thunderbolt. What I did was used needle nose pliers to bend each contact slightly + used "spark plug grease" from Napa Auto Parts to ensure they'd keep a good solid connection. Actually, I noticed it improved my signal afterwards.

yep i mean for times if the phone freezes or you need to do a battery pull, you take the cover off and eventually the battery cover becomes less resistant as it originally was. So far i havent had any issues to do a battery pull on the rezound but who knows

If it comes loose, warranty replacement overnight costs you nothing. Or, do voxigenboy said if you don't want to call Verizon.

this would be problematic if say... someone drops their phone during a ride, and they weren't able to find the battery cover. For most other phones it wouldn't be that big of a deal, but this case would leave you with a paperweight till you can get a new battery door

What if we don't worry about this issue until it actually happens? Or keep the phone in a case or something.

lol i like the "lets just not bring it up till something happens." Seems like one of those oh the third wheel is missing but dont worry untill the car tilts over haha. But also for the person who said overnight is free... no its not they dont free overnight warrenty replacement anymore, they charge you for it! if you want free now you need to wait 3-5 business days.

The battery door hold's the Antenna's for LTE and EVDO for rx diversity. The CDMA 1xRTT voice antenna is located elsewhere..

They don't free overnight? Sure they do. Every replacement I get for my customers comes free overnight the next day.

lol then i guess its different on the east coast, im in CA we have a verizon store down here as well, for the past 3-4 months all our customers complain about it too, even the corporate stores tell us when we go in, overnight isnt free anymore. Also i dont know about it being just the EVDO and LTE but when my door is off, my phone says no service period. No bard No data no nothing lol.

is this the same as the thunderbolt with 2 radios? I hadn't heard either way. The thunderbolt was the only phone that had that.

most 4g phones in this form factor are going to use antenas that are in the back cover... And if you drop your phone and the battery cover goes flying, then shame on you for not having some sort of case on the phone...
And yes, the TB is the same way.

They literally just warranty replaced my X2 last weekend and shipped it to me Via FedEx on a SATURDAY for free. So, yes they do still do it. You just have to know what you are talking about, or have a good rep apparently.
From Saturday morning. And I shipped the phone right back out to the MIUI Developer in the X2 forum Monday morning and it made it to his house Tuesday https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-...hLUC_jspRXg/s1440/2011-11-12_17-03-17_988.jpg

[Off-Topic] Verizon goes to far on Rooted devices!!!!

Ok so my co-worker just came in with at Droid 4 (God rest his soul) and was explaining to me he was informed you can't take the batt our or you void your warranty.
So he too the back of and sure as **** they have the IMEI sticker over top the batt and over laps so you have to cut it and the batt is screwed down....Hmmm looks like an attempt to stop you from rooting your phone cause you can't batt pull.
Does the Droid 4 have an external storage Card? If so is it in the same place as the DX2? Because that would be pointless for motorola to do that since you have to remove the battery to get to it. How do they know you pulled the battery? And why dont they just make the battery non removable? Arent they doing that now with newer phones? I hate how Motorola thinks.
Wtf does battery pull have to do with rooting?

Well occasionally **** ****s up and you have to pull the batt if an SBF was done before you wiped user data and your in a boot loop so I guess a lot!
Here's a quote from Android Central:
"The most interesting part of the teardown focuses on the Droid 4's troublesome non-removable battery. The teardown process revealed that in addition to a warning sticker, the battery is fixed in place with Torx screws and glue, making removal challenging and potentially hazardous. Putting pressure on a lithium ion battery tends to cause bad things -- like explosions -- to happen, so iFix recommends gently prising it out with a spudger."
Maybe that's why they have the warning sticker on it. The battery they use may be hazardous. Still, non removable batteries suck.

yeah, it sucks how companies these days often try to control to much. As far as the battery removal, I have found that on my Droid X2 I have removed the battery dozens of times back when I wasn't rooted.... the software is just junk, so it requires battery pull at times!
That's one of the reasons I traded up from an iPhone as its easier to carry a spare battery than find somewhere to charge especially when travelling

Guys seriously, Hold power and volume down for about 10 sec. Same as batt pull. Problem solved. I have had a xoom for over a year, when it freezes solid you do the same thing. I had a RAZR freeze as well while working on it, same button combo. Works every time. No removal needed.

The droid 4 does not come with a card but it does have a slot. The location is under the battery cover on top of the battery right next to the 4g sim card. They know you pulled the battery because there is a sticker over the entire battery that must be peeled on the sides to remove the battery. If you are crafty you can do it. There is no need though. The ribbon cable on the bottom of the battery is screwed in with 2 star screws(Torx) i think a t-5 or t-4 in size. It does not have traditional battery pins and terminals. If you try to yank it out, it will break.

No it will only work on devices with non-removable batteries. Since our X2s are removable, it does not have the function.

Name a Moron/jackass who allows you to access the battery compartment but doesn't let you remove it: Motorola! Ding, ding, ding! Congratulations!
What, is the battery a "museum piece"?? Do you open the battery cover and say, "Oh look darling! The flare from the sim/sd card slot accentuates the artistic impressions on the sticker above the battery. How wonderful, hmm.."?
Nonsense. Only explanation, and this is a logical one: Motorola is SOOO out of money, they couldn't even afford to redesign the Droid 4 so that the 4g/sd card slot is outside the battery compartment and the boss said we need a non-user replaceable battery. So, the clueless monkeys at Moto glued that POS.. Good one moto.. Next time, may be you guys can retrofit the X2 chassis with a 4.7 inch screen and add plastic bits to "Extend" the hull... And glue it on with some duck tape... Now that is a killer phone!

Yea...I hear ya. I really can't complain terribly though....WHile i disagree completely with the fee...you cannot go anywhere else without this fee apparently unless you go to a small time carrier. I never have an issue with coverage and data speed it's always fast for me. with Verizon, I guess that is what really matters in your cell phone service. I'd rather pay a little more for reliability.
Well not to go totally off topic but it a growing trend Playstation and Xbox with their new consoles are looking to kill the Used game market. My EVO 4G Just Died Strike 3 and I'm Out Unfortunately

It locked up once and I restarted it.
Locked up again after a few minutes, shut itself down and no matter what I do, I can't get it to restart.
Kind of a suck way to start the day.
Just this afternoon picked up my shiny new replacement from Best Buy...totally new shipment which had just came in. I added no apps and 15 minutes later the first random reboot. It rebootted7 times in two hours and then just t turned itself off and won't come back to life.
No...the battery isn't dead.
Plug it into any charger and the charging light doesn't come on.
Seriously....this is frustrating.
maybe its your battery
let it charge for a bit with the device off
did you unlock the boot loader
can u flash roms?
can u even get to the bootloader?
Phone is fully charged. It was working fine during a call and when I hung up the call, the screen locked up then quickly blinked twice and that was that.
I tried pushing the power switch for almost two minutes and noting happened.
Better now than when I am traveling for work I suppose.
Take it back before the grace period. Lolz?
My tpu case seems to be making the power button stick causing reboots. If you have a case, take it off and I would also remove the shiny top back cover and try again. If that doesn't work, call for replacement.

If you take the shiny back cover off you maybe removing something important. Look on the inside surface of the cover and you will see copper contact points. Is this the NFC antenna. I'm ignorant to how it works, just speculating.

Yeah.....maybe that's my problem. My heart sunk with the first lockup and reboot. I said some rather ugly stuff to my phone in the car.
BB stated they had taken back two out of the 7 preorders and when I asked for what reason, he said he wasn't sure.
Tomorrow I will exchange it one more time at a BB 100 miles away from the first one since we are away this weekend and they are already holding it for me. Maybe a change of venue will help
Sounds like some serious bad luck. I haven't heard of anyone's dying until you. I hope the different BBY return will do better for you man...

Anybody's phone getting hot?

When I'm browsing the Internet or doing any lengthening tasks my phone gets hot. Sometimes it gets hot in my pocket even when I'm not using it. Today i played a game on it and it was a little hotter than i think it should be. I'm thinking of taking the phone in.
I was.just getting ready to post something like this. I have never had mine get hot while not in use but def during heavy use at the top back gets hot. I'm not sure what too hot is...
I have to add myself to this list....waiting for bestbuy to get some in so I can exchange it. Mine got hot in my pocket as well and was enough for me to feel it on my leg. I called HTC and they said I would need to send it in....I am sure Best Buy will get them sooner.
Also my wife has one and has not seen this issue.
The funny part about when I called HTC was when the guy asked me to goto a Sprint store and have them try another battery......I started laughing so hard at the guy.....I asked him if he really works for HTC. Then reminded him that this phone does not have a removable battery.....
I have noticed some heat from prolonged use as well. Not quite hot enough that I am concerned, but it is noticeable. I use the battery indicator app and haven't seen the phone go over 100 degrees F, which did happen on the OG EVO while charging with the screen on (GPS, etc). Curious to see if this is widespread.
I noticed this also. While using the car app with the screen on my phone got extremely hot. Once I turned the screen off it cooled down. This kind of defeats the purpose of have a car/navigation app... Right?

have you seen the teardown of the one s? you can replace the battery. the term "removable battery" is for consumers to know they have easy access to remove or swap out the battery themselves because its placed on the outer casing. a "nonremovable battery" is inside the casing of the phone but is still easily removed and swapped just like any other part of the phone if you have experience taking apart phones, but the only place you would find a spare "nonremovable battery" is at a Sprint repair center. what you did was pretty rude, bro.

Piece of cake to replace the battery (with the proper tools). Judging from the video we could be seeing extended batteries in the future. Now if HTC did something dumb like hardwire the battery in then it wouldn't be possible.
I've noticed mine getting warm, but generally when it's being used. Maybe the Op has an app that's not playing nice. I had that happen once on my OG Evo. Uninstalled the offending app, and never had it happen again.
You have a CPU that's running at 1.5GHz, and is dual core. You run it hard it's going to get hot. Combine that with a high current draw the phone is going to cook. I use SeePU to monitor the usage of the processor. Nice app, caught a couple of apps misbehaving after seeing the bar graph for the CPU getting pegged, and staying there.

here is a break down, essentially comes apart the same way....nice! Much easier actually than the 3d was to take apart.
my phone gets warm when im using 3g data but stays cool if its turned off. i guess with the new lte phones coming out that's normal maybe idk?? anyone think that this is a problem worth worrying about?? only reason im concerned is i paid retail and i want a good phone that's not messed up and if it is i still have time to return.

Mine has gotten up to 101.5 degrees. I think it just because it is so thin and the sheer power the device has. My concern is would a case cause one to over heat?. By case I mean one totally enclosed, like a Otterbox.

maybe the evo really is this summers hottest handset
Mine stays pretty cool,85-90f.Only thing that seems to make it run hotter than that is playing a graphically intensive game like GTAIII.
Mine definitely heats up regularly under several circumstances.
1) Prolonged moderate use.
2) Heavy processor usage (Blood and Glory, Zen Bound, etc)
3) Car Dock. I was testing my battery charger. A stress test of sorts. GPS, Music Streaming, Bluetooth, constant screen on.
I'm using a battery app, and my temps in the car hit 116 degrees easy. (I also live in Florida which doesn't help the heat issue)
I also noticed if I'm playing certain games with the charger plugged in that I'll hover around 100.
I think it's a consequence of the small form factor. I started taking off my TPU case during certain the really hot times to aid in cooling.

[Q] Out of the Box problems with my One

Greetings to all the XDA community. I felt like i had a bunch of different problems with my new HTC One, that encompassed a few different threads, so i was wondering if Im the only one with such problems. If any of you had experienced one or all of these problems please let me know what you did to fix them. I appreciate your input, first time HTC owner here
1. Battery life very very subpar. Charged it for 4hours out of the box before using the first time, battery fell from 100 to 20 in 5 hrs of regular use.
2. Battery charge time is terrible. Takes 3 hours to go from 30% to 95%.
3 Wifi scan range is horrible. My Note 2 picked up 2 bars of wifi in my room, while the One cant even connect. Sitting 10ft from the Router, bars keep fluctuating from 4(max) to 1, sticking to 2 bars mostly. I dont want to burn through my cellular data allowance atleast at home.
4 Camera resolution in very average, I know its only 4 "ultrapixel", but it could be muh sharper even with that.
5 and ofcourse, the legendary capacitive buttons, especially the Back button. Unresponsive half the time, responsive after 3 soft touched (and one frustrated one). I dont mind them lighting off at times, but the unresponsiveness is unacceptable.
The build is gorgeous, no problems anywhere. The speakers are just awesome. The phone feels amazing in hand. But if i cant get wifi in my own house, and the buttons keep being so stubborn, i cant spend 2 days with that, let alone 2 years. Am i being too picky here?I hope so, cuz i REALLY love this phone for its PROs.
Please let me know what you guys think!! Thanks!!
My only problem is that battery seems to not last long and the gap on top. I wonder if I can exchange it?

i didn't notice battery life issues (esp coming over from my nexus s) but I probably have less background stuff running than most-- I actively shut down facebook syncs, google talk, etc.
no issues with wifi antenna whatsoever.
the capacitive responsiveness issue is documented and supposedly fixed in one of the upcoming OTAs.
Sounds like you may have a defective device. I'd exchange it.
Can I exchange it because of the gap?

They advertised the phone as GAPLESS so if theres a gap and you think is bothering you then you free to return it ( if you still on you 15 days )
Half of the top of mine is gapped from between the head jack and the power button all on the left side id guess roughly 1/64th of an inch..maybe less it's hardly a concern that's how miniscule or a problem it is to me.
As long as it doesn't display screen issues and get dirt beneath I'm fine with it.
It's not falling apart and I use an otterbox anyhow.
It would be far more realistic to let the phone grow old.... maybe drop it ...crack something let wear take place....so it looks legit... have a good reason to get an exchange/assurion claim.

Can you post a photo of the gap? I'm scared of getting one with more problems though

I don't know about T-Mobile, but I know many international customers have gotten warranty exchanges because of gaps. If the gap is big enough that it bothers you, ask for an exchange. It is definitely ridiculous on some units I've seen.
About charge times, it charges normally up to about 90% then slows down much more than most phones. I think it's very well-implemented given the totally non-repairable nature of the phone. I just finished charging an hour ago, and it charged from about 30% to 90% in under 2 hours, then spent another hour going from 90% to 100%. It's much better to charge slowly at the high end and preserve the health of the battery. Also most people probably know this, but charging over USB from a computer is much, much slower than using a wall charger (and wall chargers vary in power output as well).
Can I just go in a T-Mobile store and ask for an exchange for the small gap? & they'll replace it?

Greetings to all the XDA community. I felt like i had a bunch of different problems with my new HTC One, that encompassed a few different threads, so i was wondering if Im the only one with such problems. If any of you had experienced one or all of these problems please let me know what you did to fix them. I appreciate your input, first time HTC owner here

I am having the exact same problem as you (#5 above) with the capacitive buttons. The Back button doesn't respond half the time. It is really frustrating. The Home button too respond especially when double tapping to bring up the recent apps list it doesn't respond like half the time. I thought maybe it was a software issue. I guess it's a defective device then?
I have read that the buttons can be fixed through a software update by htc, though I have no idea when tmobile might push it out. For people in Europe with the same problem, they claim the OTA fixed it.
If that's the only problem you have, it may be with waiting for the ota or a custom rom with fixes.

As long as u are covered under buyers remorse, they will take a return and give u a brand new phone for whatever reason, or so they have told me over and over..call the place u got it from and find out how long you have got till that remorse period ends

They will replace it if they even have anymore in the store. Most stores are completely out of it

I got mine online, so im not sure of in store availability.
Thanks to each and everyone for your valuable advice and experiences. After countless hours of online research and tech support, I have come to the conclusion that a lot of people are having a at least one issue out of the box with their phone. HTC seems to have rushed this phone into the market in an effort to beat the S4 in timing, but in doing so they have caused quite a few quality control issues with undoubtedly the best smartphone at this time.
I bought a S4 to compare side by side before I made my decision, and after days of deliberation it seems that the One is superior to the S4 only in the flawless design and excellent speakers. This is purely my opinion, but after putting them side by side in my room, and seeing full wifi bars on my s4 and the one struggling to get just one, I must with heavy heart return my One. I came from a note 2, looking for a 1080p display and connectivity for my media consumption, and HTC could only provide one (pun unintended).
With all of you struggling with issues with your phones, good luck. I guess I'm staying samsung for now.
My older HTC One X also has poor wifi in my house. My iPad picks up signal great in my house but the minute I start walking away from my wifi router the HTC One X drops connection. Seems like wifi reception is not their strong point in all their smartphones.

A tip: Dont swim with it!

Just wanted to share my stupid experience, it works fine in showers and dipping it in water, though after a swim, it stopped working... So its more like weatherproof than waterproof, just so u guys dont make the same mistake i did, its dead, hoping i can get a new one but i doubt it
Google IP67 rating.

Just got back from Mexico. Put the gear s through its paces, i.e. beach, pool, snorkeling and it still works like a champ.

I took mine into a kiddie pool, definitely not a meter and less than 30 minutes for sure. It has no power, so I left it in my car, with the SIM door open for two days. Now, it has power, I can send and receive texts, but battery life is awful (2-3 hours) and no has no audio.
I made sure the door was secure before taking it into the water. I was going to hit Samsung to see if they would replace it, citing the IP67 certification.
Has anyone had any luck with Samsung regarding this?
Good luck, I can't even get the cradle replaced for a prong breaking off...not even 5 months old
