[Q] Restore from backup (Clockworkmod) - Galaxy Ace S5830 General

Hi, I've been playing with my phone (ace), and its been a week since i bought it, and now, the screen will just shut, so i thought it was the ROM, so ive changed it like 3 times (2.3.3 / 2.3.4), and same thing happened, so, im guessingits not about the software but it is a hardware problem, so, before i did any flash or whatever, i created a back up with cwm 4.0.0.9, so it can have my carrier and everything, but now that i want to restore it to its original state, it wont let me, it says like, "done", but it wont pass the "samsung s5830" screen...
the files that i have with it are
.android_secure
Android
boot
cache
data
nandroid.md5
recovery
system
please any help? i really want to take it back to my carrier so i can have a new one replaced
thanks

You're not describing your problem when you say "the screen shuts off" .

screen shuts off means ? it goes black for some time and come back atonce or what ?

stuck at boot logo right. reflash the fw using odin.

sry, I mean like, the light will go off, it still works, I can still touch the screen and it will make a sound, or if i were playing a game, it will still keep running, i just cant see a thing, i have to "lock the screen" and then the light will turn on again..

The cleanest way will be
Read the Howto then flash the Firmware of your Carrier with Odin. Anything will end up in a Mess because you can not restore any Rom coming from another with cwm.

I can't find my carrier's FW, im from ecuador, and it came with one that i havent been able to found in internet..... I knew something like that was going to happen, that why i created a backup with cwm, but now, i cant find a way to restore it, I have all those files that i detailed up there (the backup was created from the same phone)...

Hmm, you could try to get the same Android Stock Version, i.E. 2.3.3 or whatever, I think the Basebandversion is important and the restore your Backup over it. Still the Problem is that you have to flash the cwm Recovery again before you can restore it..
Don't know if this evidence will create trouble for your guarantee ..
But there MUST be your Firmware somewhere in the Web! Maybe if you post your carrier here, there might be someone with a link ;-)

if so can i please get a copy, i had ke7 on mine but any optus will do
ive ordered myself a jig to remove binary code counter
also im sure there is a guide but i cant seem to find it, on how to restore from a nandroid backup and then remove root so its completely stock again
can someone please point me in the right direction
this screen issue is really buggin me enough to return it or sell it and buy a htc sensation
supposedly optus havent heard of any screen issue with sgs2 until i called them

Cheers
thanks heaps mate
now... how to get it back on there
Sweet, an optus rom
Been looking for AGES for this!!!
Now, the question, am I correct in assuming this is a complete package? If so, will an odin flash, plus a hit with the USB Jig, be all that I need to get this back to stock?
i think it must be restored with cwm but im not 100% sure on that
im goin to look for a guide
got to go out now so ill check back later
unless someone can give us a link now that would be fantastic

1. ok first of all download and flash this kernal
http://www.filesonic.com/file/1226649534/CF-Root-SGS2_XW_OJV_KF1-v4.0-CWM4.zip
2. it will install CWM manager in your device open it and backup your device
3. connect your device to pc/ mac and goto phone memory and then
clockworkmod > backup > (extract your optus rom and )put it there
4. in CEM press restore, it will show you (your backup) and optus backup rom, press OPTUS one and it will restore and restart, now you would have optus rom
5. check optus things (is these there as they came with new phone)
6. download s1 root/ unroot from this link
http://www.inspiredgeek.com/2011/06/16/one-click-root-and-unroot-for-samsung-galaxy-s2-sii/
7. unroot your phone, (may be you will also need to restore original kernal but not sure about it - give it a try and see if there is a yellow triangle when you restart your phone then you will need to flash stock kernal, let me know if there is yellow triangle up on restart, i will then tell you to flash stock kernal if you do not know how to flash it ) now you need to reset counter
8. buy usb jig from ebay, here is a link
http://shop.ebay.com.au/?_from=R40&_trksid=p3907.m570.l1313&_nkw=usb+jig&_sacat=See-All-Categories
9. reset it and you are on stock
if there is anything new please let me know this will help you both and many others to learn new things

not sure, you can try it by deleting or also by coping optus rom using external sd card if you have one
its because the optus rom is missing a boot.img file
(error while flashing boot image)
i just tried a manual restore from inside recovery
will the boot.img from my latest rom work?

Firmwares are well over 200mb.To flash a new rom go to samfirmware.com choose the original firmware you had or one similar and then extract the folder downloaded. Put the phone.in download mode. For PDA use.the file with PDA in etc. Click repartition and use ext4 pit file.

OMG OMG FIRE FIRE!!!!
First, stop panicking, and post in Q&A where this belongs.
You need to do a full ODIN flash of a stock ROM. You would do this by going to Intratech's thread, and selecting the suitable firmware for your region and carrier/unbranded device.
Unzip the self extracting exe etc, and you will have the stock ROM file. ODIN it as a PDA.
This won't factory reset the phone, but if it won't boot, that might give you another example of something wrong with it... You can factory reset via stock recovery, if needed, by holding volume up + home + power, and choosing to reset.
FIRST AND FOREMOST...SUCCESS ... UNROOTED!
I WAS FLASHING THE FIRMWARE (7MB) NOT THE ROM (200MB)
AND NOW DONE!!

Problems with CSC, Odin... everything really.

Hi, I have a carrier (3UK) branded SGS2, and have been running MIUI for a little while
I decided to go back to stock, so used ODIN + files from this thread.
However, once ODIN has done it's thing, update continues on the phone. It reports that it couldn't access /system/csc/KOR/system, but that CSC has been installed.
However, there is no signal, no network available all I have is 'emergency calls only', whereas before I had pretty good signal, and I've not changed location.
I'd check what the current CSC is with *#1234#, but it seems that that rom is broken. FCs for com.android.acore, among others including google services, and as a result the dialer won't open, and others from the same list create a lovely bootloop.
Where can I get a working, stock rom, with the connectivity for my carrier?
How do I solve my issues?
P.S. - Yes I have seen a psychatrist. He got bored
1st check your imei number, is that 00499901064000 or still orignal imei??
press *#06# to know imei
Go to settings > about phone > Status
Check your IMEI/Wi-Fi MAC/etc
If its not there, your EFS it toasted and I hope you have a backup.

I always take care to back-up regularly through Titanium, MIUI's built in recovery and using CWM

I had the same ROM and i have the 3UK branded SGS2 too. MIUI is too buggy to be honest. I had the same issue with signal. Only got 1 bar then 'Emergency Calls Only'. 3UK works best with XXKPA modem. Currently, i have WanamLite, always get full bars
Try it

Hi there, i just have a quick question, pretty easy but im too dumb to get through it .. I just flashed Ultra ICS 1.2 from westcrip but it doesnt really work for me (phone and sms doesnt work, i get a message that its stopped and when i try to click on it on the homescreen it says that the app?! is not installed). Well .. the plan was before that i get the v0.5 from westcrip but i installed Ultra ics cause I just had to flash a zip .. now the main problem.
When im installing it like its said on the site ill get an error. Because: my cwm says that i cant restore tar files. But its said that i should unrar the rar and restore the stuff like a backup.. I just googled and its said that tar files need to be installed by odin. But theres no single comment in the thread that says that i need odin?! what do i have to do to get it working with the md5+img+tar files (!). (My normal cwm backup just has the md5 and img files)

You have been reverted to the generic IMEI, which means the phone wont work properly, and as you don't have a backup of the IMEI you are a bit out of luck.
Your best bet is to flash to stock, reset flash counter, and get it fixed under warranty, say it happened during a KIES update.

Way to hijack a thread.
To my personal knowledge, though, that is correct. Updates contained in .zips can be flashed in recovery, but tarballs (.tar, .tar.md5) need to be flashed using Odin.
However, to help you out, it would be better to know which phone you're talking about for a start (I'm taking it its SGS2) and which thread you're talking about. Post a new [Q] thread with all info and I'll try and help as I can.

1) from this thread download, your stock rom and the old bootloaders. (carrier branded roms are in another thread linked from that one)
2) flash old bootloaders
3) use USB jig to wipe the download counter
4) flash your stock rom
5) flash the new bootloaders if your stock firmware is UHKI1 or newer
That should make your phone look stock

Make your own thread and try to be totally clear what your problem is, as I am unable to work out what is wrong/what you are trying todo, and even what rom you are on.
Use bullet points.
lets try this one:
wanna install : resurrection v6.0 based on XXKPA OFFİCİAL İCS from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1436854
problem:
after extract and steps i followed :
"Download the cwm backup
Put it on your internal SD Card . example phone/internal sd/clockworkmode/backup ( NOT EXTERNAL SD CARD )
Enter Recovery
Wipe Everything
select restore and backup
Select restore from internal sd card ( NOT EXTERNAL SD CARD
After install finished
reboot the device
Enjoy!"
I get the problem that on the cwm backup are "tar" files which i cant install with my cwm.. its a cache.ext4.tar, data.ext4.tar,system.ext4.tar,nandroid.md5, boot img in the rar. my normal backups just have img files ... guess its not that hard to answer, pretty much a standard question but i dont find anything in the forums and im not able to post in the thread itself cause i have below 10 posts or stuff like that. (Posted in this thread cause tar files are normally used by odin..)
thanx

[GUIDE] REGAIN 100% WARRANTY from NANDROID BACKUP [WITHOUT ODIN, Stock Recovery]

Greetings xda,
I wanted to COME back to complete 100% warranty from my current Custom Rom using a stock nandroid backup, after skimming the entire SGA Forum, I couldn’t find an all-in-one thread whichs contains a guide to regain 100% warranty including stock firmware, stock recovery, Unroot. I was even told that recovering to back to a stock backup is not possible if you have used an ext4 custom ROM. So I decided to handle this on my own. I hope you find this handy.
Flashing using odin might be easier but I bought my Ace from an Arabic region and i got the JPKP9 firmware. Unfortunately ,most samsung firmware websites lack the MODEM file of the firmware. So in order to address the issue I made this guide to enable people to restore their stock roms from a nandroid backup. Hence, THIS DOES NOT REQUIRE ODIN.
Table of Contents:
A). Requirements
B). Procedure
C). Tests
D). Credits
A). Requirements:
- Samsung Galaxy Ace (GT-S5830) [rooted]
- A stock firmware backup (you might have created this before flashing roms)
- eu.chainfire.cfroot.ext4manager-1.apk*
- Clockworkmod 5 *
- Stock Recovery files *
- Unroot.zip*
*: Inside “WarrantyRegain-UsmanJ.rar” (don’t extract the .zip files)
B). Procedure:
Step 1: Download the “WarrantyRegain-UsmanJ.rar” from HERE.
Step 2: Install the eu.chainfire.cfroot.ext4manager-1.apk file which you downloaded. Run the “ext4” application you installed, it might give you an error if you are not using CF-Root but don’t mind it. Scroll down and click “Convert to rfs”. Your mobile will boot into recovery, Wait for 10-20minutes as it will change the format of System, Data and Cache partition to rfs. Once over, your mobile will restart.
Step 3:Now go to Recovery and head over to “Backup and Restore” and and restore using the stock firmware backup you have. This will take approximately 3-5 minutes. One you have finished: Reboot phone. Congratulations, you have done 60% of the warranty regain process.
Step 4: Once you have restored to Stock Firmware, it is time that you now restore to Stock Recovery. Boot into Recovery again and flash the “Stock_recovery_S5830_2.3.x._by_ingbrzy.zip” you have downloaded. Once you have successfully flashed. Go to Advanced and Reboot Recovery. Now you are in the Stock Recovery.

EDIT: All those people who saying flashing using odin in easier, then let me remind you, i bought my ace from an Arabic region and i got the JPKP9 firmware. Unfortunately ,most samsung firmware websites lack the MODEM file of the firmware. So in order to address the issue i made this guide to enable people to restore their stock roms from a nandroid backup.
Best,

Why dont just flash a stock rom. That would do it all.

You are free to do that. But, using CWM is often considered much easier than flashing using odin.
Odin is the best for me...connect usb then flash stock, done! Warranty is back

Looking at your procedure taking 10-20min is long..one click of odin (4min) is easier for me
Good effort but,appreciate it

Flashing via odin is much better because it would be clean and better and faster. Btw thanks for your tutorial.

Thank you very much for posting this solution.
After being awake all night i finally was able to restore my stock nandroid backup successfully thank to you.
And yes this method is important for those people who want to go back to what they previously had, in my case i updated my brothers Ace to JB 4.2.2 which after using for a while he asked me to revert it to what he had before{gingerbread} but sadly for me i didnt take any note of what kernel or rom his phone was running at that time and more importantly he needed all his whatsapp messages and other important data.
I only knew that he got his from uk but after going to samfirmwares i was unable to understand which firmware to download due to my little mistake making me more hesitant on what to do.
Finally after searching i found your thread and was able to restore the backup within 15 min
there are no words to describe how thank full i am to you for posting this thread

Hello,
My phone is not recognising in odin through download mode or in samsung kies, I have tried every possible way like changing cables, usb ports, computers, factory reset, but nothing was working, so then I installed cw9 on my samsung galaxy ace s5830i but still no success, now I want to go back to stock rom.
I had not taken any nandroid backup. Can anyone provide with a download link for the stock nandroid backup for Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830I, so that I can transfer it to my sd card and restore it
Thanks

GT-s5830i is not compatible with GT-s5830 model!!! They have different SoC, if you use the s5830 files could brick your phone!
Try to install a compatible rom with the compatible odin version of your device

I cannot install with Odin as it does not detect my phone in download mode. My only other option is installing stock rom through cwm, but I dont have the necessary files for my device S5830i to install it through cwm. Can u provide me with the files? It would be of great help.
Thanks

With the state of your phone now, if you were to reflash a rom between the two, you would have to flash the odex version because it will have everything stock, while the other deodexed one might have one or two things taken out, I believe.
How on earth do these things happen if you followed the steps, i dont get it

Could be a bug somewhere, development in this device is still very small and new.
@OP, reflash stock as suggested, might be lucky and get your details back.
i just flashed a stock rom, no luck.
still no imei. is there anything else I could do?
Not sure if this is possible but use someones efs img and inject your own imei inside it. i wonder if this would work

I tried doing that on my old device with no luck, but it may work for him.
I had the exact same issue, unfortunately I had no success, I ended up sending my phone back to Telstra and getting a replacement
I have the i9305T from Telstra and I made the mistake of trying to install CF-Root 6.4 for the standard i9300. Once I did that I soft bricked the phone. I have been able to download the Telstra ROM from SamFirmware and install it and be able to get the ROM up and running again. I have lost the ability to connect to the mobile network. I can still use the phone to full capacity and even connect to wifi. I haven't be able to work out a way to repair the mobile network connection.
Can you suggest any ideas?

cool, i'm just waiting to get hold of original Everything Everywhere UK ROM before I do that.
OK, i've triangleaway'd my flash counter.
so now my phone in download mode reads:
Odin mode
Product Name: GT-I9305
Custom Binary Download: No
Current Binary: Samsung Official
System Status: Custom
Now, it says samsung official as i used a foreign (to me) firmware from sammobile, i still want to change this to the everything everywhere ROM.
Why does system status still say custom? is it because i still have root? how do i remove it after i install the EE ROM?
The EE rom shouldn't add to the flash counter so i'll be OK to remove root then install it.

Try flashing the rom from this thread, then you can delete the super user apk.
