Charging issues - Motorola Droid RAZR

I'm loving my razr so far with the exception of some charging problems. Firstly I find that when using the phone when charging from the mains it is generally unresponsive and erratic.
Secondly my phone charged from a usb cable for the first hour or so and then it wouldn't charge anymore?
Thinking of sending my phone back in exchange for a galaxy nexus but I really do love this phone...

i had the same isue with my x2 and it wasd my cable.

I am experiencing the same issue, which sucks because I love the phone too

are you using the cables that came with your phone?

I've actually not had any issues with chargers, i've used generic, z Samsung galaxy S2 charger, Nokia n9 charger and the old Sony Ericsson charger from my old xperia x10
Sent from my XT910 using Tapatalk

I noticed it was not charging on my buddy's pc yesterday (first time I've ever seen this), and when I plugged it into my charging dock later, it still didn't start charging. My battery was pretty low so I rebooted it and it started working again
Other than that I haven't had charging issues

I've now tried it out over the weekend with different cables and PC's, the results are erratic. It only sometimes charges via other cables. I can see from the charging status it is not getting as much voltage as it does when it charges normally.
On the plug/cable that came with it though it seems to always work. Maybe not a dealbreaker but irritating that I'll have to carry the same charger everywhere?

Motorola phone's are strange, use the one that came with phone and problems go away

No problems charging from all sorts of junk cables, computer etc. Razr 910 en.ca

I am also having this same issue. I am currently using the charger and cable that the phone came with and it's not charging. I also multiple other chargers and cables all with the same specs and it's odd, sometimes they work and sometimes they don't. I have reboot the phone multiple times today and the phone just seems to stay at the same battery level while plugged in. The last two times this happened it seemed to correct itself eventually but it's getting quite annoying.

I left a download to complete and plugged it into a usb port into my comp. I wake up in the morning to find it dead. It wont boot up. So i plugged in a wall charger, turns out it had died out. How is this possible if the USB port in my comp was charging it?!!!

You need to check when you have it plugged into a PC that it is set properly. Tap on the USB connection in the notification bar and see what is selected.

Charging Issue = Charging Lag
Started talking about this in another thread.
Bottomline is that the Lag your experiencing is not a new issue for Motorola for whatever reasoning. You'll see my comments in the other thread, but I believe the best course is to get a replacement.
Here is the link to the other thread.

The screen uses a lot of juice. Normally while in use and connected to a charger it will sustain the same level of charge. If you use GPS and data on top of that it isn't unusual for it to drain the battery. Not sure if the Motorola rapid charger fixes this, but the att charger can not keep up

What I did was get a USB cable our extension and short the white and green pair TOWARDS THE PHONE and instead of your phone charging at 4000 milliamps it will bump it up to 7-9000 milliamps. Just read it on a thread a few days ago and works great.

And if you don't want to modify cables or chargers then you can buy something off the shelf that has the data pins shorted together. Ideally you want a charger capable of 1A or more current (1000mA). I was getting 500mA before I modified my chargers and that wasn't enough to keeps up with the current draw of the phone and GPS. With 1000mA on tap now, it keeps up no problem. Poke around to see what chargers people can confirm work with our phones (have data+ and - shorted together off the shelf).
The Samsung charger that comes with the car mount does the same thing. They simply cannot keep up if using the GPS while keeping the screen on.
You will most likely not see this with say a SkyRocket because of the screen size.

Not really following the instructions here. Anyway someone can elaborate?
Two older threads in General and one in Accessories go into great detail.

Using Current Widget from Market; the charger I got with the Samsung car dock is the first one to produce more than one amp consistently. Box states that charger model may vary. My unit had thin body with oval head and non-coiled wire, and was first one to actually charge while using Google Maps/Navigation.

3hrs of charging only up 4% WTF

Read through al the other charging issues posted and can't find one like mine. So here is my issue.
Prime been working wonderfully then yesterday was on it watching netflix videos and while plugged in it kept loosing charge until it was down to 5% on tablet and 0% on dock. So I shut it down and left it plugged in all day. The battery icon showed the lightning on it stating it was charging but after sitting for about 4 hours nothing. still showed about 6% charge on the tablet and 0% on the dock. So I tried another outlet and eventually left it plugged in all night well this morning still only about 15% charge on the tablet and 0% on the dock.
Going to try again and leave it turned off all day and see if it charges, will report back in 3 hours on my lunch break to see if anything changes. The prime recognizes when the charger is plugged in and when I unplug it I get the message that it is low on battery. Here's a screen shot of it stating it is charging.
Also note: Neither light on the power button or on the dock is on while plugged up but yet it shows charging on the lock screen.
Edit: plugged in directly to tablet to wall and only has gone up to 8% charged. Seems something wrong somewhere. Tested charger on SGS and it works, hopefully just the cable gone bad. Will order new one to see if that works, but until then no prime for me. :crying:

After being completely turned off and plugged in all day here we are:
what do you mean tested your charger on SGS and its fine?
the Prime has a proprietary plug and cable that only works in the prime and dock where as the SGS just uses micro USB.
what part did you use on your SGS?

Plugged my SGS charger into the black box of the Prime, plugged that into the wall outlet and i get charging icon on my SGS is what I mean. So the black box itself seems to be working. No way to test out the cable itself seeing it works only on the Prime.

Only had it in for a second to see if it was sending a charge.
Update: Have had prime plugged into wall completely turned off. Still no light on the dock plug in or on the tablet itself and now after 6 hours it is only 7% charge. This is pissing me off.
If you have a test device try to check the delivered voltage from charger, if it's correct it' s a hardware **** in Prime, or a bad connector in cable.

The Prime charger delivers 5v when another non-Transformer device is connected. Otherwise they could not use an USB standard connector for the charger
Found out issue. It was my power brick. It is not bad it is just doing a trickle charge to the prime for some reason. Here's how I figured it out.
Did some research and found out that the following charger and adapter does work on the Prime to charge it (Using it now) with the OEM USB Cable.
Radioshack:
Enercell 12VDC*1.5A AC to DC Power Adapter Part #273-358
Enercell Adaptaplug USB_A Socket Part # 273-227
Total Cost $24 bucks and the first adataplug is free.

S2 charger for my S3

Guys any problems if i use my S2 charger with my Galaxy S3 i9300? The usb cable that i got with my s3 isn't long enough to reach my desk so i was thinking of using my S2 charger wich is 1.5 m long.
What do you guys think? Any problems on the long run?
You should be 100% good to go. You can also use the actual charger too if it isnt a lower voltage or if it's higher you dont mind a little extra heat (heat can be damaging to the batteries mind you)
I agree the S III cable is way too short
Samsung chargers work on every unit as long as it has the same jack hell, my samsung charger even work on my nokia phone xD hahaha

I have an S2, S3, Galaxy tab 7" and a note 10.1... Use same charger for all, just change the usb cable for the different usb ports... All phones/tablets charge fine...

no worries i'm not using it on my old nokia, i was just surprised that it was able to function on my nokia )
yep seems to work fine charging with my s2 charger rated at 5v 0.7A, i don't see any difference from the original s3 charger.

I am using an HTC charger on mine and it seems to charge OK (I just reused the one from my previous Desire). I've also used a Nokia micro USB charger rated at 1.2A without issues.
I use my SII charger on my S3, no problem at all!
I think I will buy a longer USB cable also.

Wireless charger

I had two chinese W.C that worked pretty well with my old nexus 5 now with my new G3 i can't make them work properly...both of them start charging for 10'' then they stop and they starting again and this is happening all the time...
I dissasemply one and put the grid right above my G3 back cover and its doing the same...
why they aren't compatible with my G3??they are low on power?or simply aren't compatible with my G3??thanks!
Just watch a review about the original LG wireless charger...with 1-Amp it does that same thing but when using G3 own 1.8-amp charger, it works fine. So it just seems to get too less power...

1500 mah is the same as 1.5 Amp. That's referring to the power of the charger you connect it to. If you connect that charging puck to a 1 amp (1000 ma) charger, or less, it will do what you describe.
Also try different USB cables. I've found some cables just don't transfer enough power, and cause the same problem.
i have stock wireless chager .. its good :good:
So is the trick here just to use the charging cable and AC adapter that came with the G3?
The Powerbot charging station I got works fine under any condition with my Nexus 7, but I get the above described error with my G3. I tried different cable and AC adapter combinations to no avail (not sure if I tried my LG cable with adapter on this one). Plugged into my work computer with one of the USB cables that came with it, it worked fine. For one day. The next day, it kept giving me problems again so not sure if it’s just the phone, some annoyingly precise placement, or just the charger itself (again, no problems with the Nexus 7).
I just received the ChoeTech wireless 3-coil wireless charger today. With the included cable plugged into my work computer, it was giving me problems. With the short cable that came with the Powerbot, my phone is now charging.
This off and on is kind of a headache.

MI9 with WSKEN magnetic cable

I just love the cables of WSKEN. I use them on most of my devices.
So also on the MI9... But sometimes I had more battery drain than other times.
I found the problem through BBS. The WSKEN connector activates a kernel wakelock. Which uses lots of energy.
It declares why I have it sometimes because I don't use the connectors all the time.
Now i am on Xiaomi.eu rom. Can other users on different rom with maybe the same cable report if they have the same or not?
Thanks.... It's a shame i can't use it anymore now I know this.
It's the WSKEN X1 Pro.

Where do you think the leads of the wireless charging coil goes to?? [emoji848]. And wireless charging generates more heat.
And let's not talk about efficiency.... Wireless charging is around 60% so 30-40% of the energy got lost.
And the wireless charger I have got is very noisy.
I'm not unlocked and rooted so I can't use BBS, but I've got the WSKEN X1 and I haven't noticed a dramatic battery life.
EDIT : There is indeed a wakelock. I believe it might be due to pins being shorted by design. Like CC1 & CC2 (plug detection) being on all the time, and the phone constantly asking ("yes, who is it?") and getting no answer.
I'm writing to WSKEN about this (and dual magnetic cables) to see if it might be fixed in the future.
I use wsken cable for my mi 9, but most of the time it doesnt charge my phone, sometime it does.
The cable works perfectly on my micro usb plug, but not on my type-c plug (for wsken mini1 & mini2)
I've tried the cable and the type-c plug on another phones (not mi 9) and it works perfectly.
But my phones charge normally with the oem cable.
Anyone can help?
Sorry for bumping an old thread.
I'm using WSKEN mini 2 cable and the USB-C adapter on my Mi 9 which works flawlessly, no drainage and the phone charges every time.
So @24ilham I think that you might have a faulty USB-C adapter.

The drain is not very noticeable, but I got it too and decided to remove the USB-C Plug.
As I said in my edited post, I believe this comes from the 4x4 USB lines on the outside being fused towards the USB-C inside, which got 8x8 pins. To be reversible, I believe they are shorting VBUS and CC1 or CC2, and since it's used for Power-Delivery negociation, the phone is constantly asking "Ok, you're a PD Charger, what are you capable of?"
Unfortunately, the plug is too small for me to test removing a CC2 pin, and trying to find if it fixes it.
Someone with a lot of patience could try to use a USB-C cable with splitted CC2 wire to extend a plug, but... a lot of trouble.
@24ilham I believe you have a faulty USB-C plug as well, I have never had a problem with mine.
