Hi guys,
Have GSM Evo3d with s-on. Wanted to restore back to my original backup of the stock rom. Restores but hangs at Htc logo. I can use any backups I have on any other roms but not the Vodafone one. Have installed a custom kernel but flashed back to stock KingCobra. Any help be appreciated.
Just noticed no matter what rom I flash the kernel version in about phone doesn't change.
Thanks Steve.

Hi there, I have a T-Mobile G2 Touch (HTC Hero) and I want to go back to the stock T-Mobile ROM, but I've been told that if I re-flash then it'll brick my phone?
I'm running the latest version of VillainROM 10.3.2 and I found that I may need a Nandroid backup or something? If someone could possibly re-direct me to where I need to find a Nandroid recovery image for my phone, I'd be greatful!
Can you just confirm that I CAN/CAN'T re-flash my phone to Stock?
Help is appreciated! Thanks!
EDIT: I used flashrec to make a back up of the recovery image or some sort? On my SD card is "recovery-backup.img"? Does this help?
Thanks!
I am not sure how it will brick your phone and maybe someone here can advise you on this.
The recovery-backup.img is just an image of the stock bootloader that comes with your phone. If you wish to apply official OTA updates, you will need to restore to your stock bootloader using the flashrec app even after u have reverted to the stock ROM.
Hope it helps =)
I have a HTC GSM Hero running 1.5 firmware and the modaco 3.2 custom rom.
I was wondering if there is anyway I could restore back to the way it was when I first pulled it out of the box. Im dumb and didnt do a backup (I know...) and when I tried to restore it with the RUU utility it gave me a usb error. any suggestions?
Thanks!
Anyone know?
Okay, I just rooted my brother's HTC Hero (GSM Unlock) and updated it to 2.1 Villain, but there were some bugs, like in the messages app, the key board wouldn't show up in a conversation. FB Sync wouldn't sync pictures to his contacts. Is there any way I can downgrade back to the original 1.5? If so, can anyone give me a link to download that .zip? thanks!
*note* I tried flashing the official 2.1 update, it failed
And what is a Nandroid backup? Can I restore it with that?

You really should have read up before just rooting and flashing. A nandroid backup is a backup of the phone so you can restore to how it was before you started to play with it.
You can download the rom you require here.
You should have done a Nandroid backup before trying to flash a new ROM, this is a MUST DO everytime you plan on messing around with the phone, it would simply let you restore the backup back to normal.
You need to do a full wipe of the phone and flash the new ROM posted above.
Jamie.
Can I just flash a stock rom of the HTC Hero generic? I flashed a rooted one, but I keep getting this notification about an OTA,I tried installing it, but it fails. If I flash a stock rom (if possible) can I install the OTA's?
I seem to be having somewhat the same problem.
Although I didnt flash my hero to that custom rom you're mentioning.
The problem is that I've been running the modaco 3.0 rom for quite a while and wanted to get the stock 2.1 rom.
I've tried to flash it using the HTC tool but couldn't be done. I accidently overrided my nandroid backup of the stock 1.5 rom so I found a stock 1.5 on modaco's forum and flashed it.
Now I'm running 1.5, build 2.73.405.5
Every time I wipe the phone and start from scratch (setting up the phone as if it was new) I get a notification about a new OTA update. When I try to update it, the phone resets (seems fine) and it ends up in Nandroid and doesn't get any further.
Then I chose to reboot the phone and the phone runs as normal but still no new firmware.
What am I doing wrong?
I've also tried the HTC tool for flashing the ROM but end up with a connection error (170).
I have of course wiped the phone but it doesn't help...

I have the same problem! And when I do flash 2.1, the keyboard never appears when I go to the messages app. I just flashed an official stock 2.73.405.66 build, what if I do the OTA? Will it fail too? 'Cause I think it fails because last time, my phone was rooted.
Anyone got help? :-/
I am currently learning and experimenting with rooting, custom roms etc.
Wondered if someone that knows more than me can help me with a few questions I have?
I have rooted my GS2 using CF Root XWKI8 kernel on Odin. I have full root access now and I have made a backup of my factory ROM which is Three firmware.
The questions I have are:
1) How do I remove root access if I need to? Would that be by putting the original kernel back on?
2) Some people have said you can remove the yellow warning triangle by re-loading the original kernel but would that remove the root access if this is how you unroot a CF rooted phone?
3) I am thinking about loading CM7 on the phone using clockword mod. When you load up a new firmware does it have its own kernel that is then put on the phone?
4) If after loading up CM7 onto the phone I then decide to restore the original Three firmware using clockwork mod, what kernel would go back onto the phone? Would it be the CF rooted kernel as that would have been the current kernel when I performed the backup?
Its important to me that I understand everything completely before I play about anymore!
Many Thanks
Dave
1) You can flash a Stock Kernel with Odin to remove root.
2) To remove the yellow warning you first flash a rooted kernel (such as CF-Root), then you flash a Stock Kernel and when it reboots, you use CWM Manager to flash the image kernel from there. That way you keep root and CWM, but the yellow warning doesn't appear any more.
3) Many ROMs have their custom kernel in the same package, so it will overwrite your current kernel. All custom ROMs have a rooted kernel, so despite changing the kernel, you will still have root and CWM.
4) If you did a nandroid backup, you could restore the kernel from which the nandroid was done. If you don't have a nandroid backup, you can flash a Stock ROM to leave the phone as you bought it.
Many thanks for your help.
As I first of all rooted my phone using a CF Root kernel and then did a nandroid backup in clockwork mod of the Three firmware. Would the backup now include the CF Root kernel when I restore from CM7 back to Three firmware or would the original kernel still reside within my Three backup and be restored instead?
If you have the European Galaxy S II (I9100) can you use the CM7 stable build thats on the official CM website or do we need to find one within the dev section here? Anyone know please?
@DJGREEN1980: Since you've done your nandroid backup with CF-Root, when you restore it you will have CF-Root again. If you want to revert CM7 to Stock you can directly flash a Stock ROM, instead of restoring your nandroid backup.
@mikeDCMDVA: There are only 2 versions of CM7 for SGS2. One is for AT&T mobiles and the other is for the rest, so you should be able to flash this last one on your phone. If you have further questions about CM7 I would suggest you post them on CM7 post on XDA or CM7 forum, since CM7 users would surelly have more knowledge than me about that.
Do you know where I would get the stock rom from? My phone is locked and branded with Three firmware.
Thanks for your help
There's a post with all stock ROMs up to date here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
Brilliant. Thanks. So restoring to the latest Three rom XWKI8 would bring the warranty back for the phone after using a custom rom?

Its not that it will bring the warranty back, its more that you could send it to Samsung Support without them noticing you've used a custom ROM. I recently send my HTC Desire to HTC support reverting it to a Stock ROM without problems.

unless u reset the binary counter how will this work ??? of course buy a jig from ebay which im sure he forgot to mention
I have the new radio because I flashed the Tmo Stock ICS leak. I am still S-On and using 4eXt Recovery and rooted. Everything was working great so I made a backup. I then flashed Revolutionized-Senseless ICS Rom and that also worked great so I also made a backup.
I've decided i prefer Sense UI 3.6 so I tried restoring my Stock backup nut somehow cannot. My question is...is there a zip file I can flash through recovery that would give me back Stock Tmo ICS without having to go through flashing the leaked ph85img.zip, then flashing a recovery, then rooting it and then setup.
MD5 checked on the Stock backup but would still not flash. Any help would be appreciated.
My guess is, and I havent dug into this, that Revolutionized changed the radio or some other basic architecture that the stock ics needs. Im guessing youre going to have to flash PH85IMG.zip. Once you have that flashed and rooted, you should be able to flash back to your other stock backup so you have all your apps and stuff installed again.
Perhaps if you could offer more specifics on why you cant flash back to your stock backup such as error messages or what happens when you try to flash it?
