[Q] Milestone 2 overclock - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

If I use the overclock function of Milestone 2 Toolbox (M2T), for overclocking to 1200mhz, and use the cpu control function of build-in CM7, to lock the frequency to 300mhz after display off, will this make a problem?
I mean, can I use two cpu control? As I cannot find a suitable apps to do these two things....

Yes, you can. It's probably still recommended that you use one. An app which can do both (and more) is SetCPU found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=505419 or (market link): https://market.android.com/details?id=com.mhuang.overclocking&hl=en.

Need help...
Hi,
Thanks for the info. I just flashed my ROM using the custom ROM Nightly v1.3 built by Endless7 and there is a overclocking tool comes with it using Milestone 2 Toolbox and CyanogenMod Performance Setting available. However the milestone 2 toolbox is lack of setting up profiles like Set CPU.
I have set underclocking using the Milestone 2 Toolbox for each frequency and set the governor to smartass in the CyanogenMod performance setting. So this means i still can used setCPU? and if i want to used the set CPU, must i set back all the setting to default before i'm using the SetCPU apps?
Can anyone give me the default value for the Vsel setting for the each frequency for Milestone 2?
I forgot to jot it down and it seems that i can't revert to default value using the Milestone 2 Toolbox.
Lots of thanks.
p/s : sorry if my post is in the wrong thread.

[Q] Tegrak vs setcpu

So Whats the difference.
I prefer Tegrak just because it allows finer control over CPU settings but at the same time it seems more Dev's are willing to add setcpu support into the kernel vs tegrak.
My question is what is the real difference and which do you recommend?
I currently run both, setcpu for its profiles and Tegrak for its finer control, but should I switch to just setcpu or just tegrak?
TIA
Tegrak is a module which sits on top of an unaltered kernel, and alters it. Set CPU needs an altered kernel to function. Tegrak I think is the better and more stable option

I don't think it's wise to have two apps controlling cpu settings at the same time. I would stick to one app only.

Don't run both, they will conflict with one another.

[Q] please can sum one help me i can't find overclocking option

sry,
for making a new thread bt please if anyone can help me... i can't find overclocking option in cwm settings/performance i hade undervolt option bt.. not overclock.... i just had these option
im using latest minicm2.1.9 with nAa-11
Change the max cpu frequency and min frequncy value..(its shown in the screenshot) If u increase the value you overclock it..
Sent from my U20i using xda premium
You can change the values right in the settings themselves or you can get an app for it. Like setCPU or Antutu CPUMaster!
maybe you think about a "overclock option" or something implemented in cm settings. Remember that overclock means increase the speed of the processor, so, if you set the speed over 600 mhz, you are overclocking your device . Setting speeds lower than some values are also called underclock . Hope it helps

[Q] Overclock the X10i (or set frequency)

Hi, first of all i would like to know if there is any uncomplicated way to overclock the gpu (and cpu) of the x10i (adreno 200) or is it even possiple?
My x10i is rooted, xrecovery is installed as well as the fps uncap (54 fps). (but i dont want to unlock the bootloader!)
Also i would like to be able to set the cpu frequency as i want it to be, which (free) app would you recommend, should be stable and reliable (should maybe also show the current frequency)?
If thats possible, it wouldnt be bad being able to set the gpu speed/frequency as well.
Until now I've found cpu tuner and antutu cpu master...
Thanks in advance guys
First u will need a custom kernel that supports OC, then u can use no frills cpu master (free from market) to overclock
OK thanks, but as i read in some other threads you cant really go much past 1100 mhz (cpu) because it will get unstable, so i just want to set the cpu frequency i want (so just underclocking or permanently stick it to 998mhz).
Which (free) app is best for this?

Dont know about free but if youre willing to spend a little, SetCpu from the market works wonders

No frills cpu is free
So then i'm gonna try no-frills cpu control, but why is it better than antutu cpu master (free), or is it even better(?), both of them got an average of about 4,5 stars....
I've also seen that antutu cpu master (free) has advanced options with gpu control, but i dont really understand what can be done in these settings....there are no listed frequencies or anything.....(https://market.android.com/details?id=com.antutu.CpuMasterFree&hl=de)
I would say that other cpu apps may have more options but no frills is simple and elegant. As a normal user we dont need more than this.
Just my opinion
Works perfectly and has a nice statistic about the frequency(s) used
If u search xda forum properly u can find set CPU for free as a treat for xda members from the dev.

Thanks but i'm happy with no-frills cpu control at the moment, has everything i need:
- full control over the current frequency
- widget showing the current frequency
- statistic about frequency(s) used (total and last 5 seconds)
- option to set my desired frequency right after booting
So for now thats all i need, maybe when i want to overclock it a bit (future, not now), then i'll use setcpu.

no 1.8MHz setting with SiyahKernel S3 v1.3.8

Hi there, I am using Omega V9.0 with SiyahKernel S3 v1.3.8 and the app EdTweaks. But I can not get hoger than 1.6MHz. I read the specs and it said steps to 1.8GHz with the SiyahKernel S3 v1.3.8.
Is it somewhere hidden?
You need more voltage, but take care.

But I don`t know what settings for the voltage to get 1.8MHz?
I overclocked my calculator the other day. I got 1,9 MHz. Crazy.
My phone does 1,8 GHz

Hi,
For the 1.8Ghz slot the voltage is 1450mV, try by 25mV steps...
But I don't know the "tolerance" of maximum voltage, in my opinion don't go above 1500mV.
Maybe your CPU can't handle 1.8Ghz, if it's like some other phones, some can handle higher overclock, others can't...
You can use SetCpu, mostly don't set anything at boot...
EDIT:Re reading the OP..., in fact you do not see the 1.8Ghz slot???
Guys I think he is asking why you cannot OC higher than 1600mhz in extweaks.
I don't know whh that happens but you can use setcpu to OC to 1800mhz.

Hi,
That's what I thought after thought , thanks.
It's right in ExTweaks there is not the 1.7/1.8Ghz slots
So you can use SetCpu, the 1.7Ghz and 1.8Ghz slots are present.

Voltage control will override the extweaks settings and sets the voltage according to your oc selection. Just open it and set to 1.8. If all is well you can set it at boot. If nit just reboot and reset but increase the voltage.
You can also check to see what it's running using CPU spy.

But in ExTweaks there is no CPU slot for 1.7 or 1.8GHz. Only 1.6GHz. It has CPU undervolting. Is standard on NO.
But you can override GPU voltages levels. I don`t know how to use these or does it effect on the CPU?
I have use the app CPU Master of AnTuTu. Here there is a 1.8HHz slot but after rebooting and after a benchmark it is still 1.6GHz???
Perhaps I have to use the app SetCPU.
In Cpu Master have you tick set on boot?
Maybe a bit risky to 1.8Ghz unless you have tested this frequency for a long time and all is fine.
In any case with SetCpu the CPU freq remains after reboot.
And this is what I said, in ExTweaks there is not 1.7 and 1.8Ghz slot...Maybe ask to gokhanmoral why or if this is normal?
And the GPU setting affects only the GPU, not the CPU.
You can also try System Tuner on the Play Store for yours CPU settings, but be careful to not multiply the CPU apps setting to avoid conflicts in case of different settings in each apps
For example use only ExTweaks for your GPU settings and only SetCpu for your CPU settings... not more.

So it is better to leave this way, only use ExTweak and uninstall the other tweak apps?
Yes, I would say to keep only one app for your CPU settings. If the 1.6Ghz slot is good enough for you or your usage keep it like that.If you want test above 1.6Ghz then installs SetCpu but use only SetCpu for your CPU settings, not extweaks because there could be conflicts (maybe) if you set 1.6Ghz in ExTweaks and 1.8Ghz in SetCpu, not normally but you never know.
And with ExTweaks you can set many other things with Siyah kernel like GPU, sound, etc... so with this kernel ExTweaks is the best app, obiously
It really depends on what you want LOL, SetCpu is very complete for CPU settings but only for that (volatge, governor settings).
In my opinion just keep ExTweaks with your overclock at 1.6Ghz and you are good!

When I said voltage control, I didn't mean voltage control in extweaks. Voltage Control is an app in the play store which will allow you to set the CPU to 1.8. It overrides the settings used in extweaks. Set it to 1.8 and it will adjust the voltages accordingly. You can even change them independently if you like. Test at 1.8 for a few days and if you have no problems then tick to set it at boot. You will know if it's overclocked to 1.8 with CPU spy also from the play store.

Aha voltage control is an app. I will look for it and found it. Finally there is the 1.8GHz :victory:
What to set with on demand? In ExTweaks they use pegasusq and in Voltage Control they use ondemand. There is also hotplug and performance. Is it better to deinstall the other tweak cpu apps?
Anyway this does not work. The same with CPU Master. Set it on 1.8GHz but it is hanging now with a benchmark. After rebooting it is back at 1.6GHz. Do I have to use another kernel?

First I try what sxi200 said about Voltage Control.
I am not happy
Tested the Voltage Control but after setting it on 1.8GHz and tried a benchmark it is dead :crying:
Had to put the battery out for 10 minutes. I think I use ExTweaks with the Siyah kernel at 1.6GHz pffffffff

Yeah I did set it to 1.8 a while ago and it also hung during benchmark tests. Maybe it needs more voltage at 1.8. Might be worth a try increasing it in the Voltage Control app.
After reboot it goes back to 1.6 unless you set it at boot within the vc app. But risky until you sort out the freezing issues. I'd recommend not to set it for now.
Personally, I found 1.6 to be fast enough so I just use extweaks. Also probably better for battery as well.

best app for cpu setting

i am on mean rom GB v45 + anthrax kernel included in it.The problem is when i play 3D game it run on 1.5 ghz and make my phone overheat even with simple 3D game like paper monster so i want downlclock it
using set cpu latest version(2.0.3.2 and 3.0.7 version)wth max 1.2 ghz and min 194 mhz but i see in widget it back to max 1.5 ghz sometimes
using system tuner pro, but it make my phone restart maybe there's conflict with the rom
using cpu antutu master pro , i cant adjust voltage but successly adjust the min and max clock speed eventough the min clock speed always going up same as max clock speed in antutu setting . Installing system tuner pro after adjusting antutu master and the cpu clock is the same as my setting on antutu cpu master pro.
if you have any experiece please share

First of all, the kernel in MeanROM GB 4.5 is a dodava kernel. The settings for OC/UV are controlled by parameters in the postboot script, not with apps like SetCPU and System Tuner. If you try to set them with those apps, they will be reset when the phone goes to sleep and wakes up again. There are some instructions for setting up the parameters in this post within the MeanROM GB thread, and the script has more information in the comments.
This post by mpgrimm2 is a good guide to setting up the postboot script parameters, including some recommended values. You might be better off posting further questions in the MeanROM GB thread if they are related to that ROM because there are still a lot of people using it that monitor the thread.
