It seems that there are quite a few problems with the Rezound, including reboots, heat issues, and dead pixels. For those of you with bad phones, even if you are returning them, would you mind posting the issue you have and the manufacture date or batch number on the phone. If you don't have that, maybe the HW Version (although that will be much less useful, short of HTC running a new batch to fix the major heat and reboot issues).
To get your phone manufacture date:
1. Dial ##7764726
2. Hit call
3. Insert 000000 for password
4. Hit Display Grouping
5. Manufacture Date Code is what you need there
Maybe we can figure it out here. Will update the 2nd post with findings.

the only way i remember getting my manufactorer date on the incredible was the bootloader..or something...i think......i forget actually; how do i do it? lol
Sorry I already returned mine but I had a dud. I had it at 130F at one point! Also the bottom buttons were a magenta color instead of red. This new one is awesome! Runs perfect!

No more pink/magenta buttons? I'm having that issue right now.
guys, can you take pics of these "magenta" buttons? no buttons will ever be pure red, IMO. mine are red, but have a lighter red hue, which in turn leads to a pinkish hue...it's nothing to warrant a replacement whatsoever though.

I'm on my 3rd Rezound for dead pixels.... Guess what this one also has dead pixels that just popped up. Where can I find the information again so I can post.
I am currently on my 3rd rezound. First one mhl out didn't work, second one started rebooting constantly, now this one overheats when streaming video from the internet through the mhl. Love the phone but wish the features all worked correctly. Bought it on release day, got last one 4 days ago.

I got my Rezound from Amazon delivered on Tuesday. I have not had any issues that others are reporting. No dead pixels, no pink/magenta hue on the capacitive buttons (they are indeed red) No overheating. No nothing. Works like a top. *Knock on wood*
I had one with bad light leak on the screen from the capacitive lights. Got it replaced. This one has light leak at the bottom bezel and the lights are almost pink. But idk how I feel about returning another one. Don't want to be that guy. And chances are I could get one with a whole different problem.
Rabble rabble rabble.
i think we ALL have light leak. it's just how the phone was designed.
Well the other one I had had none at the bottom. It leaked above the capacitive lights. My lights have officially gone pink now on this one.

I only notice it when turning on the screen in a dark-ish room, for a second, the button backlight goes on, and you can see it, but once the screen lights up you can't. I call this a non-issue. Moving on ...

That's why I'm not returning mine for the pink buttons, I've had to return phones in the past and each one after the original had a major issue... especially my Charge. Holy crap.
As far as the pink buttons, I've disabled them with the Screen Filter app. Everything else works perfectly on this phone, especially the voice quality and 4G reception. No reboots, no overheating... just the pink effing buttons. So it's staying. I'll either disable them permanently once a kernel is released that allows control or I'll open the phone up and use red translucent paint on the back of the buttons.

Yeah all my EVO 3Ds had the same frikken issue. But it isn't nearly as bad on the rezound compared to the EVO. I had 2 random reboots this afternoon. 1 I was typing a post while in Tapa and the frikken thing froze. Second one I was just browsing in the market. Seemed as if I was scrolling and clicking to fast AMD the phone couldn't handle it. But I still love it. Got Verizon TP extend my return policy to Jan 15th, so I got plenty of time. But have no intentions to return.

Doesn't seem anyone knows where to find that info, can you tell us? I haven't found any issues with mine but I'm still in my "new phone awe" phase coming from my almost 4yo dumbphone.
Would love to know just to check it against those with issues though.

Any of you have light leakage, would you exchange your phone for something like this?

I have it but its extremely minor I really can't even tell unless its pitch black in the room. And someone has tried on this forum to exchange a phone because of that and Verizon would not allow it.

None on mine. I will say that when I bought the EVO upon release I had major leakage issues. Sprint swapped it out with no question. Not too sure if Verizon would do the same since I'm a new VZW customer, but that was one of the first things I looked for when I got my TB.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
Yes I would and I did. I was really distracting in dark or dim rooms. It looked light the tip of a lit cigarette next to the home and search buttons. It got to the point where I was using an app called adjbrightness to force the button backlights off for good. My replacement was a great improvement thankfully. Just tell them to hold it between two shelves or under the register to see it. Afterward call vzw to verify that they noted the issue on your account.
Update: by light leak I meant bleeding throught the black paint near the buttons.
I don't know if this may help but try Going to another verizon outlet to get a replacement. I did this because I wasn't sure if the whole batch had the same issue at the previous store.
Remember to return to stock before exchanging. They will charge you full retail price for a rooted phone which has been exchanged. And they wont give the rooted one back. Good luck.
There was non on my first but my first Thunderbolt had a serious hardware issue. My second has a little light leaking but really can only be seen at night. My thoughts are that I wouldn't bother returning it. You may trade one problem for another. The phones are all mass produced perfection doesn't exist. I mean my G5 mouse I am using now has some led light leaking around the seams its normal. I never even noticed until your thread.

I don't think they were talking about the light leakig throught the seems. The light is bleeds throught the black paint near the buttons. Like if the coating of paint was too thin in some areas. A little light leak is fine but bleeding through the paint is not.
Just wondering as I've returned one bolt for a dead pixel and now exchanging 2nd for some light leakage issues at the bottom of the phone.
All of them have the light leakage. And for the people who say they don't its because you have to told it at an angle. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1016939

Wow...well I can confirm all of them dont have this. I had my first bolt side by side to this one. Original with dead pixel has no leakage. This one has no dead pixel but does have leakage. This is frustrating as it should be taken care of by HTC. Didn't they learn from there EVO issues? I will be at the VZW store tomorrow and will not walk out without a thunderbolt that has no leakage or dead pixels.
I do not have any light leakage. I can tilt it slowly around while looking in the dark, there is none anywhere.

I have light leakage on the bottom of my screen, but not enough for me to return it.
I had leakage bad on my first one. Switch to a second one which feels like someone was rough with it. The vibration is rough and the plastic bit below the screen is coming up on both ends and the middle. They wouldn't let me swap though. No one could see the problem. Well, it wouldn't connect to 3G yesterday so they gave me a new one. Haven't played with it much, just put the battery in so I could be sure it works. Now it's sitting letting the screen protector dry. It think it's better though.
Ive returned one with a dead pixel. Both phones ive had leak at the bottom.

Yesterday while switching wallpapers I discovered a dreaded stuck pixel, green in color. Went to the Verizon store I purchased it. HOLY #$%^Z^...they gave me the hardest of times. Keep in my I was still on my 14 day period. 2 of the employees could NOT see the stuck pixel and basically implied that I was crazy.
The "tech support" guy could clearly see what I was referring to...and did the exchange. The new unit seems OK so far.
I got leakage. I also wished the screen was set flush with the edges.

Just got my Amaze 4G this weekend, I found out that there're light leakage from the capacitive buttons, so anytime they are on the black at the bottom of the screen just looks brightened. I want to take it to T-Mobile for a return but don't know if I will get hit with a $50 restocking fee. Is the light leakage a common problem or just that I have a defect device? I appreciate any input, thanks guys.
I think its a common problem, I have it on mine, if you can't live with it you should return it or use Screen Filter App by Haxor on the marketplace to turn off the light on the buttons.

that's why I research when I buy things before I buy them...I don't mind it at all...There are like a thousand pages about light leakage (everyone has it, thats how the phone was made) and how to get around it on this forum.
I see what you are saying, the problems when I was watching some of the review videos on youtube, none of them have the light leakage problem.
Its not so obvious unless the bottom of the screen is all black or a dark color.
Like I said you can download Screen Filter App to turn off the light.

some phones have it brighter than others, my dad's phone is not too bad, my phone is a little worse in terms of the bleed.
you have choices, download screen filter, or return the phone and pay a restocking fee, honestly, its not a big issue!!! There are a lot of work around when watching videos etc. use the search function on top of the screen and search for screen bleed as i mentioned before.
ummm... isn't that how the phone is supposed to be?
When you turn the phone off, the light is there.. I really don't find it bad at all

Thanks guys for all your replies, I'm not picky but just want to find out if it's a common case or just my unit, because if it's the latter then there's no reason for me to not return it and get a new one. Thanks again!
Just an FYI. I called HTC last week to send me a new cover for my phone in hopes that it had a thicker gasket that would fix the camera flash bleed. While I was talking to their support, I asked if they knew about the screen bleed from the Capacitive buttons. If so, has the problem been resolved with the newer phones. She hasn't heard anything about the issue so she transferred me to a different dept.
I explained the issue again to the new tech rep. She hasn't heard anything about the issue either. She grabbed a one of their test phones and was able to replicate the issue. She created a ticket about the issue and info about my phone (radio, software version, etc..). She then told me that she is going to send the ticket to their engineering dept about the issue. That I should expect a call sometime soon cornering the issue.
Today I received a call from HTC about the issue. The phone call was basically going over what I did before. Like giving the info about the issue, them checking it out on a test phone, them telling me that they were able to replicate the issue, etc... The tech that I spoke with said that he need to forward this ticket to the hardware department because they are the software dept and it’s a hardware issue. The support guy told me that he will keep in touch with me with what the hardware dept has to say and if they will have a solution for the issue.
I figure that I'd post here in hope that maybe if we can get more people to call and complain about the issue, they will listen and fix the issue.
Here is their number: 1-866-449-8358 for anyone that is interested in calling

It's unfair to assume that they will not do anything about it when it's clear that they can do something. Obviously the won't recall all the devices however they can include an update to lower the brightness of the buttons thus reducing the condition. It may not eliminate the problem completely but if they can reduce it by at least 50% it would be a huge improvement. My beef with it is that the buttons remain lit while docked which seems pointless to me.
Anyway... let's try to be a little more friendly, alright?

I'd recommend this. I didn't realize it until it was mention. I turned off Screen Filter and it seems to work fine. It's not as stable as I like, but it's getting there and faux123 is doing a great job. When looking at black pictures it still creeps. But it's not as bad.

Since a few beta builds ago, I've enabled Dynamic Button Light capability.
At night when the light is dim, the buttons should light up based on amount of light detected (variable). When the amount of light is large, then the button light will turn itself off to conserve additional power.
To test this, go to a dark room, you should see the button lights, then use a good flash light and shine at the sensors (near the top of the phone) and you should see the button light turn off, then once you point the flash light away from the phone, the button light should come back on.

Mine was on whenever the screen was on.
so, im on my second amaze (first one had a dead pixel) and i need to take this one back now too because i have these 3 bright spots under the cap keys where light is leaking thru that is pretty bad and that i never noticed on their display model or the first one i owned.
since ive only been with tmo about 2-3 weeks, im not really sure how often i can return a phone for being defective (still within remorse period). do they flag your account for too many returns? is there a limit to the amount of phones they will exchange? should i try and return this phone to a different store?
i feel like for the money i paid for this phone it should be flawless and at the same time its both a burden on me and tmo that i keep having to return this phone. thoughts? experiences? thanks
the three bright spot are on all models, its a known issue with the phone, they may take it back, but you will get an other one with the same issues.

i dont think it matters how many you physically return but if your requesting them from insurance they do because a lot of people scam insurance and just sell their devices.
Although, the capacitive lights at the bottom do leak, a lot. this is a well known issue and its highly likely that the next Amaze you get will have the same issue. If I were you, I'd at least root, and download adjbrightness from the market and just turn em off. It saved me some battery and got rid of all the light leakage hope I helped bro

I never noticed these on my phone until last night when I was watching a show on my phone. Kind of annoying, and I'm hoping they don't get worse. I don't know how they would, but I've had the phone for two months and never noticed it till now.
For sure exchange though, I doubt they flag your account for having phone hardware issues. I only had 4 mytouch4gs in a year, but I was annoyed enough to get a free amaze out of it. They're good with exchanges. Wish they didn't have to be and the phones worked, but oh well.

It really sucks having blue lines in the LCD. Since I am not far from Chicago, the cold weather here I believe is triggering the issue. I am going to keep exchanging until HTC gets it right and T-Mobile sends me a good phone lol.
Exchange it man! Don't be shy. You deserve what you pay for and tmo needs to be held responsible for providing that. Guarantees are only useful if you use them! If they overcharged you for some service would you just pay it because you don't want to burden them? I do agree it can be a pain to bring it in, I would go so far as to request a discount on your service. Never forget, they are there to serve you!
P.S. I also never lock myself into contracts, just so I have the option to quit. You would be amazed how much better service you get from the "customer retention center."

It was funny after reading this thread, I kept looking for those spots you were talking about, which I do get, but bleeds into the screen and that app took care of that problem. But having it outside in the sun, I noticed those blue lines. It is faint, but there. Looks like a grid. I assume these are on all of the devices? I can't see it much unless outside and the sun beating on it at a certain angle.
Kind of how my Kindle Fire is as well.

So I am using my phone at night and I noticed some light bleeding. Not the usual one everyone talks about but at the very bottom of the screen where the Home button is. I can see light being emitted across the base of the screen where it meets the surrounding.
When I press the screen in on that section it goes away. So upon closer inspection I can see that the screen is slightly raised at that section and I can press down on it and it will be level but slowly raise back up causing the light bleeding.
Great. Anyway I bought this phone second hand. Do you think HTC will honor the warranty if I send it in to fix the screen?

After reading this I noticed I have this too. Im not sending mine since it doesn't bother me at all but if yours is really bad you should send it back. I don't see why they wouldn't make a warranty exchange.
Try and snap a picture, it'd help a lot more people see what the problem looks like

its normal, i have it too, so does my dad's amaze, both new phones
Hmmmm seems like another common issue. Ill try to take some pics today to show everyone what I am talking about. It amazes me, no pun intended, that I switched back to HTC from Samsung for better build quality and so far I've had so many issues already compared to the Vibrant I had before this phone.

I have the same issue, doesn't bother me though.

I also have it, Atleast i think its a light bleed, ive also thought that maybe its the light from the display just reflecting off the lifted edges/bezle??? Doesnt bother me much either anymore.
Noticed this the first day I have got the Amaze. Went back to the store, check the demo model, another new one sealed in box does the same thing, we are SOL
If I have the light enabled on the soft keys, I can see it.
Since day 1 it has been there but now it's creeping up the sides...as if the glass might simply 'pop' out one day, that's something I can reinstall.
Another vote for "visible".
thats really weird. I have a telus amaze and no problems here :/ just the normal screen bleed because of the light of the buttons.
Pics with and without the soft keys enabled, taken with my wife's amaze...which is also showing separation.
Always thought it was just a part of the design.

I am trying to learn to appreciate it as a pretty glow during scroll menus in portrait LOL, that is what I thought it was at first HAHA!
I learned that most Amaze 4G has this issue, so I was like:
Waiting for someone's screen to just pop off now lol

The gap has quickly moved from the bottom, up the sides.
After yeas of consistent use my HD2 case was bowed in on the sides, probably from the "stress" of 5 beautiful children...that includes twins.
lol.
The Amaze cases don't seem vulberable to such forces of massive rage grip, so hopefully no pop.
Both phones were complimentary due to a tmobile blunder, so no insurance (ocd kept my HD2 pristine, these should be fine) I'll do the 3m tape thing I've read so much about on the Sensation forums.
Now THERE'S a poorly built phone...kripes.

but you're not forever alone, more of a trolololololol.
however it is your pretty glow, win/win!
Screen bleed is normal in the sense that it is common, but I for one do not consider it acceptable. It is not inevitable, and you can get a screen that doesn't have it.
I just tell myself that these screens are made super quickly and put in these phones super quickly, assembled by some in all likelihood poor underpaid worker.
I cut them some slack, although screen bleed absolutely bothers me. What I dislike is the lottery process. I would pay more for a screen that could guarantee no screen bleed.
