[Q] Most Stable Froyo (2.2) Eris Rom - Droid Eris Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey all - I will be getting a Galaxy Nexus soon and was going to give my Eris to my little brother (10 years old) as a Wi-Fi device. I currently have a gingerbread rom on there, but it's not very fast/smooth/stable (widgets take forever to appear on homescreen, navigation crashes). I don't care about the theme or anything else, I just want the rom to be stable and smooth. Any suggestions?

I always liked CELB Froyo myself. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=723263

[Q] Cyanogen ROM??

Hey everyone! Has there been any word if there will be a Cyanogen ROM for the Streak now that the kernel source has been released?? Would be pretty nice IMHO
Don't think he has a streak to do a rom for us !
And I'm going to be controversial here........
I love Cyan roms, very quick and stable and very 'tweakable' with lots of options.
I had them on my G1 and Nexus, however they EAT the battery..

Once all the lovley devs have sussed the source code for the streak a port is on the cards.
Ill go out on a limb and disagree, im running cm 5.0.8 on my g1, i dont have my sim card in it (obviously its in my streak) i only use it as an alarm clock, with no data connection at all, it will last about 10 days on a 2200mAh battery, my experience battery wise has been no worse with cm compared to other roms... even a vanilla 2.2 build with gapps and the same dpi setting as a Evo would be fine with me... id kill for stock android.

ive never experienced battery drain with cyan roms on my G1. completely the opposite infact.
cyan himself doesnt need to make a rom for streak with the source we can have ago at porting it over. but although his roms are fantastic i dont think they will be very good for the streak. its best we build our own cyans and set the bar for custom streak roms ourselves
once we work out dells weird and wonderful edits to android source we should have some success but at moment theirs alot of cannot allocate memory problems

Would porting twiz 4 launcher to froyo roms be too difficult?

Just wondering....cause I'd really like a deodexed twiz4 for froyo.
I think that Until gb is officially released for the vibrant, it's not gonna be as stable enough to be a daily driver. But I really dig tw4 launcher.....
I'd do it myself if I were a dev....but unfortunately I lack the knowledge.
from my Vibrant running Bionix-v 1.3.1 and my Unbridled Carnage theme.
I'm with you there. I would love to try TWiz 4.0. I know it doesn't get that much love but it is good UI. I also lack the knowledge but I will see what I can do to find it and get it working as there are more and more GB ROMs coming on the vibrant.

Stock android

I'm just curious, but is there a rom that is desensed but that also doesn't use adw or launcher products or something? Like is there a rom with a stock android launcher thing (thinking like the nexus s)?
Try the CyanogenMod release candidate. I've heard its pretty solid. Haven't tried it myself.

The latest OMFGB build is near, if not already perfect. I have used it for a good while now, and honestly can't find a single bug. Latest nightly found HERE.
Thanks, ill try those out.

OMGB and CyanogenMod 7(CM7) are similar to the Nexus S ROM as previously stated. OMGB is closer to the Nexus S vanilla android ROM. CM7 has been tweaked to include many options not found on a vanilla android ROM. OMGB does come with a stock launcher like the Nexus S. CM7 comes with ADW launcher but I always replace it with a stock launcher like the Nexus S. Some features of CM7 I use are: Hold back button to kill an application, a render FX widget which turns the screen red for night time viewing, settings to control the CPU frequency, and tether - wifi hotspot options. OMGB may have some or all of these features, I'm not sure. OMGB it is the closest you can get to a Nexus S type ROM, and gets a lot of praise from the users here on XDA. Ultimately you'll have to do some reading and decide how far down the rabbit hole you want to go.
OMGB is actually much closer to the OS on the Nexus than either OMFGB or CM7. It is very smooth and fast, but lacks many of the customization features of the other two AOSP ROMs.

[Q] Honycomb or CM7 or Something Else

I have been using the XDA forums for a while with my Motorola Atrix and now I have a Nook Color to play with.. I am trying to decide what I want to run on it and would like to get people's opinion on what they like the best.
Right now I have CM7 running on it and like it.. I get freeze ups from time to time but generally I am enjoying it.
I am interested in giving Honycomb a try but I hear that it has a lot of compatibility issues with different apps and am wondering if it is worth my time to give it a try.
What do you all think? Which do you prefer? Is there something other than these two options to try?
Give MIUI a shot; it's Android with an iOS coat of paint.
Honeycomb probably won't be worth it until after ICS due to the fact that google hasn;t released the source code for HC.Once we get some proper ports of Honeycomb out, i think Honeycomb would be the best.
CM7 is the best period. MIUI is just themed outdated CM version.

Cm7 gets my vote too, been very stable and turns your nook into an even more useful little device. Very neat
+1 for CM7. I was getting random problems running from an a-data card (Sandisk is usually recommended). I installed to emmc a while ago and haven't looked back -- it's been just about perfect. I had tried one of the earlier preview versions of HC a while back and it was not fun - very laggy and lots of compatibility problems. I'm sure it's better now but with CM7 there's little reason to switch.

It's not better and it won't get better without source code that will never come.

+1 for MIUI, loving it compared to cm7
Cm7 I'd the best choice ATM IMO.

I'm dual-booting MIUI and CM7, but I use CM7 most of the time because MIUI is somewhat... garish.

I guess MIUI would seem a little garish compared to the stark, utilitarian dressing of stock Android.

[Q] Fast and simple android version

Hi,
I supose there are a lot of topics like this, but I want something different.
I have a xperia s, but the phone has broken and I am sending it to the manufacturer. The only other phone I have lying around is a htc hero, but it is extremely slow!
It has already been rooted, but now I am wondering if someone can recommend me a custom rom. The only things I will need is the ability to call and sms people. I won't be using this phone for long (I hope), so any other functions won't be necessary. I just want it to be fast enough.
Thank you in advance for the help,
Jerodev.
Two of the fastest roms for the hero would be Heroine ++ and Vanilla Eclair 6.2. Heroine is sense, the same version that came with the phone (i think) but faster. Vanilla Eclair is a very early version of stock android and its very fast (well, for this phone). If all you're going to do is call and sms then those should be fine
Btw they are very old roms so I have no idea if the download links still work. If they don't then you could look at either decked_x or shpongle which are both stock android gingerbread roms

Are there any ROM's optimized for gaming to run raging thunder, fruit ninja etc.?
