[Q] Google I/O tab software updates - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I tried searching but I found no answer pretty much.
What version is the Google I/O tab on now?
I have one I picked up on eBay and it is still on 3.1
Any threads that have all software updates listed for them?
I've had it for a while and never received a update and I am curious if there is a reason for it.
Is there a difference between the I/O tab and the retail wifi version software?
Thanks in advance.

They stopped getting updates around the time samsung introduced touchwiz on the retail models. I think they just don't feel like supporting two roms for the same devices, and they know we don't want touchwiz on our developer devices.

Well thats disappointing.
So do you think there wont be a native ICS update?
Probably going to have to use CM9 then I assume.

When they originally gave the tabs away they said updates should be expected for at least 18 months. My guess is that they did not want to do 3.2 update because ICS is already here. I would expect the IO should atleast get a vanilla ICS update but after that I doubt it gets much. Doesn't really matter though. If your using an IO tab you probably rooted anyways and can always just flash one of the beautiful Rom's provided here on XDA may I suggest Tasks newest Galaxy 6.1

What is an io tab

I had barely played with the device and just rooted it this afternoon actually.
Going to flash that ROM now as well.
Guess I'll be on CM9 sooner than later.

I have an IO Galaxy tab and I am currently with Task's 3.2 v6.1 ROM.
It's the best Rom I've ever tried, now the tablet works as it should be.

[Q] Download ICS now, or wait for the Official version?

I was just wondering what you guys thought about ICS.
Is it worth downloading now, or would I be better off waiting for the Official Samsung release, whenever that may be?
Waiting for Samsung would mean that I would have to download, preferably, through Kies. However at the moment when I connect to Kies it tells me that my phone is unable to be updated through Kies... could someone help me out with that please?
Thank you in advance.
I would probably wait for an official release from Samsung. Some of the ics roms currently out are great for everyday use, but there are still some bugs.
You wouldn't have to update through kies when the official ics releases. Someone on xda will definitely make a flashable zip. Hope this answers your question.
Sent from my GT-I9100
Hello New_World_Order,
if I were you, I'd wait - not only because of existing flaws (maybe speed, battery or bugs), because it's unfinished,
but also because of the fact that not every app is running with ICS right now.
Many users are currently reverting back to GB and wait because their favourite navigation or something else does not work.
So waiting will have a lot of advantage...
Greetings Psy

Personally, I am enjoying using the latest Samsung's ICS leak, XXLPB, and I am definitely not going to Gingerbread. This ROM is pretty stable, and even TouchWiz looks better. However I understand that many apps are not optimised for ICS, and while some widgets don't support some of its alternative skins (Mobility Flow's Animated Weather Clock, for example). Nevertheless, if you prefer using official updates via Kies instead of trying the latest (and often unstable) leak flashable via Odin, it just may be not for you.
Thanks to the two guys above,

I really want to try ICS, and considering I won't be able to get ICS through Kies when it is officially released, I think I'll just go for it and try it out now.
I don't suppose you could post me the link for the XXLPB leak could you please?

Thanks a lot.
I found it on another site.
I'm waiting for the .zip file to download, then I'll do it and let you know the results.
Only problem being is it will take a while as I have to wait another half an hour after this file finishes downloading to then download the file needed to root it.
I'll come back in an hour or so!
I'll come back in an hour or so
Usually followed by HELP then how do i remove ICS .
But at least you have had a lick .

Make sure that it is full Samsung and no custom rom because you should first flash original one when you upgrade from GB.
Greetings Psy
I would recommend waiting.. I just installed an ICS rom and it keeps dying and booting on me..
It is recommended to wait, but you can try it now
Okay so I'm back.
ICS is installed, and I'm just using Titanium Backup Pro to restore all of my apps + data.
(Whilst I was writing this, Titanium finished restoring, or so it said, but there were no apps? Any idea as to why this has happened and how to fix it please?)
First look, I'm pretty shocked.
It's not much different compared to GB.
However, what has been added, is great. I love the way that double clicking the home button brings up a task centre type drop down with which you can close your apps. Great idea, similar to the iPhone.
Overall, I recommend waiting for the official release, but if you're impatient like me, then sure, go ahead and give it a go.
Not all apps are working on ICS but almost all do. I am happy with Resurrection Remix ics v9.4 Ultimate XXLPB 4.0.3 FULL-Wipe ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1436854. It is very stable fast and good battery. No way am I going back.

Well actually depends of what are you trying to do with your ROM, right now all are experimental and certainly had bugs, if you like testing flash now
Btw i'm using the Resurrection ROM of westcrip too and it's very stable.
Wait, wait, wait
while XXLPB is the most stable so far
it still has a long way
a lot of bugs
a lot of random restarts
not to mention not all applications are compatible
I took a look at the Resurrection ROM last night before hand, however the latest ICS was released so I went for that.
Everything works perfectly fine, the only thing missing is the flash player on the browsers, which im sure someone knows how to fix!
Overall it's quite good.
Testing the battery life today as that's important to me due to college 9-5 on most days.
I'll give you guys some feedback tonight about my first full day!
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
If you are rooted or plan to root, I would recommend Westcrip's Resurrection ROM 9.3. Battery seems good so far, fast and almost totally bug free. The official ROM will not be totally bug free & probably heavier on the battery. The only drawback is many of the apps will not work with ics. If you have a problem and have followed the instructions for Resurrection, it's likely that the problem is an incompatible app.
My suggestion is go for it, it's better than Gingerbread and you can always install the genuine version when it comes out.

Just got one one today what do you recommend?

So i bought one on Thursday and it arrived today. I just noticed that a leaked version of ICS was released just now, do you guys think I should use that? or cm9? or another ROM? Really not liking the touchwiz
I'm upgrading from a captivate which had cm7

Currently, this is the bestestest ICS ROM out right now for the "one".
http://tinyurl.com/2g9mqh
If you just got it today I would suggest you start reading guides and FAQs. When you think you have it, read it all again. Its similar to the Captivate, but different enough you can do some damage if you aren't paying attention.
That said, the leak just dropped is not ready immediately for use. There is no "best" ROM, try many of them. There are several ICS ROMs, both AOSP and TW based. They are in the dev sections.
Sent from my Galaxy S II (i777)
Thanks guys, anything in special i should watch out for? that maybe the captivate didnt have?
Right now the ICS leak contains bootloaders and a stock Samsung kernel - stock Samsung ICS kernels SUCK, even the I9100 release ones.
ICS will be more polished in a few days. Since we have had kernel source for only a week - things aren't quite polished yet.

Just curious, why do stock Samsung ICS kernels suck? And how do you know that already? I was under the impression that we never had stock ICS i777 kernels until we got the leak today, so have you already looked at/tested them and compared them to your own? Just want to know the thought process
EDIT: You edited your post. I didn't know we had the stock kernel already. Still, what about it makes it so bad?
Some think else look into from that have Kay setting installed it is AMAZING what he did with the sgs2 that said have fun and do sum looking in i9100 section most of there roms are cross flashable with hell raiser...

It's brand new and shiney. Might be best to give it a workout for a week or so to make sure everything is functional and stays functional. Not like it happens alot but there are lemons out there. No sensce causing yourself the xtra grief of wondering if you killed the phone or it already had a fatal flaw.

fuel_alerted wakelock (fixed in source-built custom kernels - we fixed it 6 months ago for Gingerbread, we had to fix it again for ICS)
Instabilities if you use SetCPU (still not fixed, but fundamentally can't be fixed for a binary kernel)
Let me do my noob question here then.
My GS2 has 2 months old. On this time i've tested a few ROMs and Kernels.
I just dont know how to erase all the phone data. I just came out from a bootloop erasing the data and everything else but the folders are still there.
I did a little search but didnt find any info... also nothing on FAQs.
Sorry to use your post man
I'm a noob but i did my research. Keep on GB for a week or 2.
I do use ICScrew Rom. Work fine. Came with a good kernel and you can also flash the entropy one.
There are several others rom that work fine just choose one to get more experienced.

I have ran probably about 6 different ROMs and the last 2 that I have ran, I swear by - took me about 3 months to finally understand the terminology, but an odexed based rom is butter smooth and runs good if the author put some time and effort into it.
My suggestion is ShiShirRom found in the Dev section or if you prefer to help "beta" test his ICS rom which is based off of the leaked AT&T S2 Rom - then give that one a try. It runs really well and I have had no issues personally.
Hah! I just got mine yesterday, and I've been playing with it. I've never had a smart phone before this, but I do have a Asus Transformer so I have experience sticking on custom roms and ****ting all over it (of course, I'm really just going through the motions outlined by the pros in that xda forum..).

Few questions about Atrix performance and gaming

Hello guys,
I just got myself an Atrix 4G, it should be here by tomorrow. I'm a LG Optimus One user, and i decided it was time to buy a new phone, after a year and a half with that LG (running CM9 atm on it).
I have been reading this forum for a while, reading about Atrix, CM10 (impressed with epinter's work) and stuffs, but i still have some questions and i would love if you guys could answer them.
1th one:
I live in Brazil and imported the Atrix 4G from Mercado Livre, a website like eBay. I have been reading here that the AT&T phone have some problems with OTA updates and stuffs like that, so people are losing they phones when they updated or unlock bootloader... some stuffs like that. So my question is: since i live on Brazil, should i ignore any OTA update if i want to enjoy custom roms? Or i can upgrade and root/unlock when i feel i want it?
2th one:
Still on the bootloader topic, i see i need to use something called Fastboot. The link say it's compatible only with Windows... but i use Ubuntu as my desktop, with no dual boot. Can i use terminal to run it too?
3th one:
ICS and JB roms seems to not have HW acceleration drivers because NVidia don't release they drivers for those versions. Does it mean TEGRA is basicly useless and not used on those roms yet? If so, how is gaming on those roms?
4th one:
I use my LG Optimus One basicly to read books (yeah, i should buy a tablet, but nah..) and gaming with GBA/SNES emulators, and for that, CM9 (and CM7 before it) give me great performance. So, what is the rom with best performance in games for Atrix? I guess ICS/JB ones are out of the table, and i don't think the default CM7 would be it... i mean, it's fast, but usualy roms based on them do more tweaks in performance, so... any recommendation?
I'm pretty anxious and hope the phone gets here soon! For someone who only played around with dumb phones and mid/low end Android devices, a dual core with a TEGRA GPU will be a huge boost
Thanks in advanced guys! And sorry for my english :S
I can't answer all you question, but regarding OTA there are no updates out since last JUNE, there is a chance the phone is updated. Motorola fixed the issue so the OTA update is fine to carry out. The latest update for AT&T is 2.3.7 GB Blur_Version.4.5.141.MB860.ATT.en.US.
Regarding UBUNTU. You might be able to use SuperOneClick through MONO to fastboot. Also I have found this russian forum link showing how to fastboot in Unbutu. Only issue is its in RUSSIAN lol.. http://forum.motofan.ru/index.php?showtopic=1730813
I personally would not update to ICS firmwares just yet, as they do not have fingerprint scanner support just yet.
I am currently using CM7.2 and had GTA 3 on my phone, its works great no lag, pretty smooth too.
HOPE this helps

We can only hope and see. It would be amazing to see if samsung really does it, cause its been 2 years and the phone is still getting updates!
I'd love to see the S2 get the update......but I doubt it will happen.........
As another poster said.......the model is nearly 3 years old now....it's also 2 generations out of date (S3 &S4)......I'm sure the phone is capable of running the update, but I'm also sure that Samsung isn't going to continually update an older phone and deprive themselves of income generated by purchases of newer phones. The S2 has been updated more times than any other phone (cmiiw).....but now (I read somewhere) that they've ceased production of the phone, it wouldn't surprise me if they ceased support for it too........
Sent from my Alliance powered S2 via XDA Developers App
So I presume that means you'd like all the Knox crap/locked down bootloader then ?
No.....if that happens my next phone aint gonna be a Samsung......and from what I've read about knox, it shouldn't affect the S2 anyway as the S2 doesn't have the knox efuse built in to it.......
Sent from my Alliance powered S2 via XDA Developers App
The thing I don't understand is why people keep believing those rumours. First 'they' said 4.2.2 would be the final update, then 'they' told us Samsung would skip that version and would jump to 4.3, and now both of these things didn't came out, and suddenly 4.4 would come to our device?
Like said before, the step from GB to JB was already quite big, so don't expect anything more from Samsung.
I don't understand why people get hard whenever a new firmware drops. Let's face it, Samsung's firmwares are complete/utter crap. What people should be getting barred up about is when sources drop. Sources allow developers to make better roms. Samsung releasing new firmware minus sources = so what ?

Why still GB? There are official Samsung Updates for your S2. The latest one being 4.1.2. So go for it bro!
actually I don't mind if Samsung released 4.4 for this phone, even if they didn't we will always have custom roms .In my opinion, Samsung is a great company it has supported this phone for a long period of time.I think that this phone is better than some phones being released this year and I wouldn't like to get another phone( I dont think its time to upgrade )

I'd avoid it the device is a problem child. Asus QA is terrible took me ages to get a good screen and the very slow internal memory let's it down. Asus seem to have ended updates with 4.1.1. Keyboard is great but it just doesn't feel like a premium device.

Def be aware that there are some interal IO bottlenecking due to the slow R/W speeds of internal SDCARD. That being said - i am usiing CM 10.1 with Cache2SD set up and i love it!

As someone pointed out earlier, It's not a bad device, but not very good one either. I've had mine for about two years, and while it doesn't suck, there are currently much better alternatives out there. The TF201 can suffer from WiFi problems, which mine doesn't, and poor to non-existant GPS reception, which mine does. Build quality is very good and solid, and the "transformer" capability is huge. The dock adds more battery, another SD card slot and a real USB connection, but performance is, well, two years ago. Screen is OK
As I said, I LOVE the detachable keyboard concept and all the extras that come with it, so my next purchase, once the bugs are worked out, is going to be the new TF701t that's just being released. More RAM, 2560x1600 display !, faster chip, and hopefully, no Wifi or GPS issues.
