Are you using an aftermarket head unit? In the early days of GSII development, I had issuses with my Eclipse unit with roms that used Samsung framework. ever since I started using CM7 all the problems went away. I have no feasable evidence why it seems to work better with CM7, but I haven't had any problems since.
Look on page #177 on the CM7 Nightlies thread post #1763 to flash the latest KANG build and see how that goes. Good Luck!

This post should possibly be on a BMW forum, but my SGS1 worked with my car, my new SGS2 does not...
My car is invisible to the phone and visa versa. I have had the phone for a few days only, so have time to return if if needs be, but of course I'd rather not!
I did not try it with stock ROM but it does not work with either Lite'ning or VillainROM.
Any ideas? (other than try it with stock rom!

First make sure you set the phone to be discoverable lol. Otherwise...
Model/year? iDrive equipped? If so, CCC or CIC?
My SGSII on VR1.1 works fine with a 2010 X5M with the CIC nav system.

My car is a 2008 320d and it does not have iDrive, but has the Professional audio system.
Its really frustrating as my previous phones as well as my wife's iphone all connect with no problem.

I had a 2009 RRS which I'm pretty sure had the same non-integrated Bluetooth as it was sourced from BMW. Older phones worked fine with it but all the newer phones I tried either connected once then failed or never connected. I have a friend with a 2011 7er and the SGS2 paired with it fine.

Probably an incompatibility problem with the older Bluetooth system then.
Short of wiring in an aftermarket bluetooth module I don't think there's anything you can do about it.

I saw the parrot online today, but its a whole bloody other system, so some more crap to put on my dashboard... UGLY!
What i'd like is (apparently non-existent) a bluetooth bridge, which pairs to older cars and newer phones (or visa versa if you are kinky)

I have both a 2009 5 series and a 2011 MINI Cooper S (both have BMW bluetooth stacks) and the SGS2 pairs with no problem. In the 5 series I found that it did not show up immediately to be paired, but a restart of the phone and discoverable enabled it to show up (although slowly, but once it appeared pairing was enabled without a problem).

Same here, pairs up with my GT-R instantly as long as bluetooth is toggled on the phone. My previous unbranded SGS GT-i9100 also paired up with the GT-R with no problems.
I have the same combination as you : 320d 2008 and Sgs 2 . Works without any issues , even better than my old nokia . Does your phone pair with other BT devices (like a hands-free, or a laptop) ?

Hi,
The car pairs easily with my wife's iphone 3gs.
I had another 320d 2008 before this one (changed body type from saloon to estate) and the previous one had no problems with my SGS1 but my new car struggled but eventually got my SGS1. Now with my SGS2 there is NO sign of anything!
The bluetooth in the car never did find anything though, it was always the phone that found the car, and then the car responded and I entered the code and all was fine...
The phone "sees" all sorts of other cars passing by, other phones, other headsets... so the phone is ok, just the bluetooth on the SGS2 is obviously not backwards compatible, which is a massive bummer.
Mark.
you probably just need a software update from BMW of your system.
A part of that update is adding various new handsets for compatability to the bluetooth system.
I have a 320cd 2003 and my SGS2 connects to its bluetooth no problem. So def not a backwards compatiblity problem as mine is older than yours.
I would recommend a software Update for your car too.
No problem here with an 2011 120d.

Hi guys
Hmmm interesting.
When I had my SGS1 and changed from the 2008 saloon to the 2008 estate and the SGS stopped working with the car, I went to the BMW dealer and they said they do not upgrade the bluetooth. I was shocked since it cant be too hard, and for a company so big on being green (auto stop start etc) making things obsolete before the warranty has expired is pretty harsh.
I dont know how to reset bluetooth on the car, I can switch BT off, but there is no phone in the memory to clear, so dont know how to get the car to reset it's bluetooth. My car has the "Professional" sound system ie the built in bluetooth with steering wheel control.
Any further tips most welcome... but the BWM garage said there is nothing wrong with it, it's my phone.

Hi
there is nothing in the manual about resetting bluetooth.
I called the BMW dealership twice today and spoke to service, both times asked if my phone is on the "compatible list". I said I would not consider buying a phone that was obsolete 2 years ago so I could find something in their very outdated list.
One guy said pulling the battery is the only way to "reset" the electronics, another guy said there is no point in that, you cannot reset it.
They were both baffled that people on this forum have older BMW's that pair to the very same phone.
Tomorrow I pull the battery out and also try pairing my wife's 3Gs for the hell of it.
Tx again,
Mark.
I haven't seen anyone post this yet, and I'm hoping I won't draw the usual search you fool comments. I am trying to connect to an IOGEAR GBHFK231 handsfree car device which I know usues a passcode to connect. It pairs without prompting me for the passcode, and when it tries to connect i get a message bluetooth device has disconnected, and the BT no longer shows up in the list.
I am currently using Scotts Cleanrom 1.6.5 without any mods installed, but I have had this problem with stock before unlocking, Nils ICS, Scott's Cleanrom ICS, and a few others ICS and GB.
I have also contacted IOGEAR who says they have not received any reports of issues, and will get back with me if they get any information. I'm holding my breath. Notice the blue color.
Any ideas from this renowned collection of geniuses?
This is a cheapo device by the way, and relaceing it isn't a problem. Just looking for answers.
Thanks,
Matt
Wow no responses yet.. I had it connect one time and was able to make a call using voice dial, but after it was disconnected it went back to paired but not connected, then disappeared when attempting to connect. I'm planning to upgrad my car stereo with a bluetooth calling built in model. Am I likely to have similar problems?
Thanks again.
Am I the only one to experience this problem? anyone using a Bluetooth hands free car device and can verify it working? I'm a little hesitant to buy another and have the same problem.

No comments about searching. See? :-D
You might try Amazon reviews to see if there are any reasonable complaints there.
Not sure where Berlin is but, if you live in the south, the bluetooth device itself may overheat on your dash, and that may cause the issue you describe.
Also, not familiar with BT pairing for your device, but you should be prompted for a pin / code. Make sure you're in BT wireless settings on your Rezound when you are trying to pair. It might be good to "forget" your BT device and start with a fresh pairing attempt.

If you've had the device previously paired to the phone, the phone I'd has changed according to the device. Clear your pair list and re-pair or pair, delete the pair, re-pair.

BT is flaky at best right now with the ICS rom. Mine works most of the time when it wants to. Occasionally I will have to reboot my phone to get it work right.
I have the turtle beach px500 headphones and my phone hooks up to them over Bluetooth just fine. Can make calls, listen to music.

htc uses its own BT stack. Unfortunately, BT still has too many variables which is why I have never bought the BT peripheral for my pioneer system. Not worth 150 bucks to have it not pair with a phone down the line.
Thanks for all the replies. I've been through stack problems in the past with some car audio bt devices never won one yet. This issue started before I ever unlocked my phone, and I have used both GB and ICS roms with no luck so I'm going to rule that out for now. I've started getting error messages that say I am using the wrong pin to pair, but have never been given the box to enter a pin. So far as heat etc this was working fine on my Dinc, and hasn't been in the car since I switched to the Rezound. I have also connected it to other phones while trying to fix it without a problem. Does anyone have a method to force the box to open to enter the pin, or is there possible a security setting that I need to remove?
Well I figure it out. I changed the bt device to a setting to use 2 phones, then reset it to factory default and it's working now. I don't know why the other resets didn't do the same thing, but it's working.
Has anyone had any problem using the S3 in the car? I've got a factory fitted Bluetooth kit and it connects fine, but the other party cannot hear me at all. I can hear them fine though.

Interesting, just tried it in my wife's Vauxhall, no problem at all...crystal clear both ways.

Hi...Fine in the Astra, definitely a Mercedes problem, as I picked up a Note today from Amazon, exactly the same problem. I can connect, and hear them, they can't hear me.....so back it goes!
This is very strange, tried a Galaxy Note with Gingerbread, same problem, updated via Kies to ICS ,ver 4.0.3 and it fixed it, worked perfectly....borrow a Galaxy S3 to try again, running ICS 4.0.4, same problem.

I have the exact same problem. I have a 2 year old Toyota Camry with a Toyota factory built-in car kit and since switching to the galaxy s3 nobody can hear my end of phone calls.
I can use the car kit to listen to music from the s3 and can even control the music with pause/stop/previous/next buttons from the carkit, but the problem is the microphone is dead.
The bluetooth connection actually takes the microphone function away from the phone over to the car kit, but then doesn't work... Previously I was using a HTC Desire and had no problems at all with the same setup...
I've tried unpairing the devices several times, but to no avail.
I'm not sure what to do next, but I can't change the car kit as it is a factory one and actually works really well with every other phone except for the galaxy S3.
Any help would be much appreciated. Taking the car back to the factory is quite annoying, I'm hoping there's an easier fix that can be done on the phone...
Works fine in my UK Honda Civic 2007. Does clash though with my HTC Car A100 bluetooth bridge - works fine on its own but the Media Audio pairing seems to stamp all over the Call Audio pairing so I am wondering if the S3 has a bug with splitting the 2 audio connections between 2 devices.
Could it be that you're hearing your caller through "Media Audio" & thus they are unable to hear you cos the pick-up mic on the phone is too far away/being noise cancelled instead of routing through the car's hands-free mic & being treated as "Call Audio" as it should?
I'm wondering, I have a 13 Ford Focus and I can't get it to pair with my car. Its worked fine before but recently I changed ROMs, CM 10.2 and updated my phones radios to the most recent ones. I think the bluetooth is fine because it pairs with my computer fine, just not my car.
So my questions is what cause bluetooth issues? The ROM, The Kernel or the radios?

I'd blame the rom.
Seriously though if you made a back up of your previous rom, restore and see if it will pair. Anything you need to clear out on your car's side so it can pair? I rented a Toyota recently and it's paired phone list was full, had to delete some to get it to work.

Finding this post has finally convinced me to sign up and participate. Long time lurker...
I have the same problem and have been working on hunting this down.
I have a pioneer deh-80ors receiver with the vs985.
On 12b and previous bluetooth works great but everything after that introduces the problem.
The audio plays normally for 15-45 seconds regardless of the app used, then drops for a second, plays for a second in a hurried mess and repeats until the receiver is restarted or bluetooth is disabled on the phone and reconnected.
I have tried a handful of roms for lollipop without success (I do like skydragon though - nice and lean with the termal mod).
If I flash back to OEM 12b using kdz everything works great. If I load an old rom like jasmine 4 it works great. I have tried enabling and disabling all settings from the hidden menu for bt_test with no results other than it occasionally not working at all.
I have read reports of people turning off the call audio from the bluetooth pairing with mixed results, using an app from the manufacturer of the deck (which doesn't work here since pioneer connect was released like two years ago), disabling driving mode (for the S2 and S3), and all kinds of other snake oil. Based on the fact it works fine with the OEM revision up to the one before lollipop leads me to believe it's some problem with lollipop directly. I'm confident it's not the bluetooth drivers or firmware as flashing between major releases resulted in the modem being broken (intermittent LTE) but the same bluetooth issues. That is, unless the BT drivers are built into the release and are specific to each one in which case replacing the new drivers in a more modern ROM with the old ones may work.
The worst part is that most decks don't work with droid devices nearly as well as apple anyway, if we could just plug them in over usb I would be ok with that. Unfortunately the receiver doesn't even see the thing and no manner of apps or settings changes I could do ever got that working either. If anyone has gotten a usb audio connection working (preferably without USB Audio Pro App which is the one that most people like) I would love some input.
