It sounds like there is a high chance this is installed in the fascinate. Does anyone know any more info regarding our phones? Do any of our roms besides the AOSP/MTD ROMS have it removed?
I think ported roms from the mesmerize have it removed. Though I could be wrong

hard to say of even aosp has it removed. The article states that it resides in the ram itself and is almost undetectable. Someone should bring this to jt's attention. I would but am driving and mostly using speech to text. :0.. If no one has later i will

I am using the Touchwiz Superclean ROM and I don't think it's there. I looked through "All applications" in the settings menu and there was no mention of iq anywhere. TrevE also wrote an app to detect it and it didn't appear to find CIQ on my ROM. Let me know what you all find.

I just ran this on CM7.1 with Glitch v13 and no CIQ files were detected fwiw
"I didn't say that...my Fascinate has a tiny troll inside it."
The app that TrevE wrote was meant for the Evo 3D and other HTC phones, so I wouldn't trust the results.
The bottom line here, fellas, is that without doing a butt-ton of work to find the traces of these files, we have no idea if this program is there or not. This article seems to make me think that Carrier IQ was included, even in previous AOSP Roms.
I personally am not going to worry about it too much. I know people want their privacy and all, but there is so much of this going on that privacy is just an idea now-a-days.
Just my 2 cents.
The following was just tweeted by droid_life:
"Oh lord. So today's rumor is that the Galaxy Nexus is delayed on Verizon because of Carrier IQ? #massivefacepalm"
"And when I say facepalm, that's because Verizon doesn't use Carrier IQ and no way in hell would a Nexus have it. Come on folks"
Also, this was posted...
So, in short, no. Carrier IQ is not on our phones.
Just an additional +1, I ran TrevE's Logging Test App (link) on my stock ED05 Fascinate today and the CIQ Check turned up nothing.

It's all about options, you can rely on OTA update, and keep your phone pristine stock condition (software-wise) and pay the provider, or you can root, forget about OTA, load a custom ROM and make the most out of your hardware and software and do not pay the provider (just support your devs!) - just be a man enough to admit you fessed up when the things go south.
It's up to you, but remember you have a choice unlike other guys using other mobile phone system(s).
I actually work at T-Mo, as far as I know they only way to honestly "Stop" the tethering is to throttle you at 5GB(not really stop, just slow you to below dial-up speed)... I know that we aren't supposed to tell people they can still tether without the feature, but it is possible from what I have seen... I'm looking for a way to bypass it as well.
As soon as the Vibrant gets support Officially for the Netflix app everyone should start flooding T-mobile or whoever ur SP is and complain, complain, complain about hitting the cap. Thats my story and I'm sticking to it
*EDIT* I think I misunderstood the OP so my post may not be relevant to this thread, sorry. But I'm not deleting it I believe its important none the less.

Let's not make an assumption right now. For last couple months, did we ever thought of getting Froyo? No hell we didnt. One thing I can say is carrier doesn't include "update to date" in contract and they don't have to. It is up to Verizon to move their stupid ass bloats and let Sammy take care of this, but it's gonna take Verizon to lose money.

True, but it is not a leak. Sammy and vzw haven't even suggested they will attempt a release for the fascinate. Which would lead me to suspect there is no one working on it and therefore no leak possible. Now with froyo they did.
I've been reading that CM7 doesn't allow 911 calls on the vibrant. I haven't tested mine (Running nightly 81, Bali 1.2, GPS Fix).
Is this true? Are the developers aware of this?
If this is true, this should be a huge red flag in any rom that has this problem. Does this problem exist on other roms?
I posted this question to issues as well:
http://code.google.com/p/cyanogenmod/issues/detail?id=4222
By the way, if you do want to test this, I've seen in other threads a suggestion that you call the non-911 number for your 911 dispatch center and schedule a test call. That way you wont end up with a swat team at your door.

This needs to be addressed. I was dialing 911 two Tuesday evenings ago since I was in a car accident. It is beyond reason why someone would leave such a critical bug on any kind of cellular phone OS. Is 911 linked to the GPS perhaps?

On a Samsung ROM, 911 works perfectly. So how exactly is it THEIR fault?
You people need to get better things to do then blame TMO/Samsung at everything.
Oh no! a CUSTOM ROM's 911 doesn't work! Why don't we blame the big companies because its their branded phone instead of asking how we can help the devs fix it!

Jt is saying that if you don't like it, go back to stock. No one made you flash. Android is supposed to be open source but because of all proprietary crap it's hard to get everything working as well as a developer (and user) would prefer.

It's not you dude. Ive noticed the last couple of months that CM7 brings out all kinds of "characters". I'll just leave it at that.
I am confused if you were upset at me realizing this bug? I know the evidence does fall upon Samsung or T-Mobile for using a custom rom. I am well aware that this Rom is experimental for my phone. Have I known about this flaw earlier, I would of used a different ron.

I remember I had to call 911 on a Samsung rom and it didn't work. Does it have to do with anything?
I called 911 "by accident" for the hell of it, and it worked fine. It must depend on the carrier/area.
Sent from my T959 using XDA Premium App
This post contains the technical details of why 911 calling generally does not work on the Vibrant (and maybe other SGS phones) on CM7. Long story short, it's not necessarily Samsung's fault, they just implemented emergency dialing different than is done in the AOSP. That difference is enormous however because the Samsung implementation involves stuff on a low-level (i.e., radio implementation).
I have a small echo-like noise now that I hear during phone calls on my phone. I think it is a hardware issue because I don't hear it on my bluetooth headset. I called Verizon 800 number the other night because I was wondering about the 4G outage and mentioned my audio problem while I was on the phone with her. She said if I call back from another phone, tech support would connect to my Thunderbolt and troubleshoot the audio problem, and if its unfixable they would send me another Thunderbolt.
I am wondering if I need to unroot before I do this....would tech support be able to tell if my phone was rooted and thus void the warranty and not be able to do anything for me? What should I do?
Bare minimum I'd install the stock rom on there, I don't believe they would dig far enough to see if fastboot is unlocked.
As for the title question Yes, they can tell if rooted.

The only thing I can think of, and I'm no expert or anything so this is just a guess, is that they could look at the software version of the phone, and if it isn't the latest, or a previous release for this phone, then they could speculate that you are rooted, though I don't think that alone would hold up in court if it ever came to that.
When the support rep told the OP that they would "connect to my Thunderbolt and troubleshoot the audio problem", I think they were going by the standard "don't call tech support from the phone that's having the issue" practice.
Can they remotely connect to our phones ? I wasn't aware that they could.

Liquid AOSP 3.2.
I unrooted just to be safe and the tech rep never said anything and I got them to send me a new sim card and if that doesn't solve my problem (which I don't think it will), then they will send me a new thunderbolt.
When I rooted again after the phone call it wouldn't let me restore my rom and I got stuck in a boot loop. Luckily I had rom zip's on my sd card, so I installed one from scratch, reflashed cwm via rom mgr again, then it let me restore it.
Very weird, and I was terrified I jacked my phone up.

I just recently used to work for at&t customer care and if vzw is anything like them, the only way they can maybe tell is if you have an unlimited data plan plus unofficial tethering app. Or if you send it in for warranty/Asurion replacement. Otherwise i don't really see how they could see in any way if it was rooted

Jelly Beans is the ROM to go to.
But make sure your buddies phone is already unlocked. If he didn't unlock his bootloader and install a custom recovery by now he's probably screwed. That OTA has destroyed any current working methods of getting custom recovery capabilities.
If he didn't get the OTA then have him read the Unlocking the Bootloader thread under the Original Development sub forum for the Verizon Galaxy Note 2.

Samsung doesn't, Verizon does. I can't tell you what their real reasons are for locking bootloaders but I believe their public statement is that they feel by locking these phones down securely they can provide a better network experience for everyone.
Yeah, bull****. It's so they can force bloatware down our throats and prevent people from using root required workarounds to things they keep locked on us. See Google Wallet vs Isis for further study.
Dang. Verizon sucks balls. Hope theres a workaround soon
