Hi, sometimes while I am using my phone, the screen turns off on its own, but the touchscreen still works and (obviously) pressing the power button doesn't do anything. I have let it sit this way overnight to see if the problem goes away and it doesn't. I have to remove the battery to make it go back to normal. This problem started about 3 days ago and has gone from happening once a day to about 10 times a day, which is getting me worried. I was running cyanogenmod 7 when the problem started, but I switched to liquid gingersense to see if the problem would still occur and it does. I apologize if this has been discussed already, I did a couple of searches and couldn't find anything that seemed to be my exact problem though.
Sounds to me that u r experiencing bsod(black screen of death). This happen when u leave it sleep and screen doesn't come back on....what u have to do is change ur governor to ondamand and up ur min....and that should work.

I'll give that a try, but I've noticed that it only happens when i'm using the phone. I can leave the phone on all night and it won't happen, but if i use it for like 10 minutes it will.

so heres the story:
when i lock the phone, the screen turns off as normal. but when i hit the power/home button to wake it and unlock it, nothing happens. literally, nothing happens. its as if the phone has turned itself off.
So whats happened is, I left the phone on the charger last night. it woke perfectly this morning when the alarm went off. no issues there.
I put the phone into my pocket and headed into work. i went to check my phone when i got on the bus and this was the first tme that I noticed that the phone wasnt waking. i eventually pulled the battery to get the phone to restart. i tried it again and the same thing happened.
later I made a phone call. the same thing happened again when i took the phone away from my head (the screen didnt restart, and I couldnt hit the End Call button cause there was none.)
since then, i've figured that to make sure the phone doesnt go to permanent sleep i have to do one of 2 things,
1) keep the phone music player running constantly, or
2) keep the phone connected to the usb charger.
clearly this isnt exactly practical for a mobile.
im not running any other Rom, its still the stock rom, android v 2.3.5, not rooted or anything else?
is this somethign anyone else has seen?
its called 'sleep of death' or SoD. some people has experienced this and some are able to fix it. it depends on what is causing it.
some blame it to the battery and the battery's contact point..
sometimes it fix itself after few reboots..
cheers for the info. Ill look into it and see if its worth trying to fix or just sending back.
no problem, i have this problem and cant do anything about it. i used load monitor to keep the phone awake, u/v a bit so it wont drain so much battery. but battery drainage still noticeable like 1% every 5 min..
just wondering, does it feels hot/warm near the camera lens when it happens? bcause mine does.
not particularly.
i finally got through to my provider and will be able to get it fixed/replaced soon. they just dont half drag their feet
Everything has been fine with my G for weeks. Then today, I heard the boot animation and pulled it out of my pocket to see it rebooting. I thought I had bumped the button, so no big deal. Waited for it to boot, then unlocked it and checked mail.
I set it on the couch next to me, then a few minutes later, I reached over to turn it on and it wouldn't turn on. I held the power button several times for extended periods. I finally held power and volume down and it rebooted.
Kind of alarming, since I haven't changed anything. No new apps, no hacking, rooting, modding. It's stock and I haven't changed anything about it in the last week.
Anyone else experience anything like this?
I've had the problem of random reboots and it being stuck on the yellow god screen I'm guessing download mode so your not alone. I'm sure it's a software glitch mentioned by someone earlier hopefully with the jellybeaner it gets worked out

Yes im having this issue too, it happens on any stock rom i run. even stock roms that have been debloated like Savvy, ive tried proper custom roms but they give me a blue screen external modem crash screen more often than the random switch off i have with a stock rom. However the switch off has happened to me twice today. its happened overnight before causing me to be late for work and ive missed many phone calls.
Im sick of this issue and am currently in the midst of speaking to the seller off ebay for warranty return (it was bought new unlocked unopened from an ebay store)
Hey guys,
Last night I plugged in my LGOG right before I went to sleep. About seven hours later I woke up, woke it up to check the time, then fell back to sleep. When I woke up again a few hours later, my phone was completely dead. No lights go on when charging, nor does it go into the charging mode that happens when the phone is off but charging. The power button does nothing at all. Connecting it to a computer does nothing. I have tried two different wall chargers and a USB plug, and have tried different outlets. The phone is rooted and unlocked. I haven't put any new apps or anything on the phone recently, however I have had a slight overheating issue lately. I don't think that that's what caused the issue though, as when I woke up for the first time and woke it up, the phone was not noticeably hot, and seemed to work fine. Any ideas or suggestions?
Edit: As suddenly as it stopped working, it has started working again, about two hours later. The notification sound buzzed, my phone turned on, and usual on start things happened. However I'm still extremely worried about it. Now that it's on, I assume there's more I can do to figure out the issue- suggestions?
These phones are terribly buggy when charging/when they die, IMO. Worst Android device I've ever had in that respect.
Probably just a fluke, tbh.
Unfortunately it happened again- sent a message, put my phone away, when I tried to turn it on again nothing happened and it stopped working for five minutes.
Apologies for not mentioning this before, but I am using carbonrom, not stock. I've used it for several months with no issues, and have used the latest build for a week or two now without this issue.

Reboot into recovery and wipe cache+dalvik
Maybe the rom needs a little cleaning

Tried wiping cache and dalvik, but didn't seem to solve the issue. Then my phone started having an issue it's had once before- it turns on for a few seconds, then the screen goes grey for about a minute, then returns to being on. After returning to being on, it acts like it's just started up- ie, there's superuser grant notifications, cpu set notifications, and all sorts of other stuff I usually see on boot. It essentially rendered my phone unusable, so I restored an earlier backup. This seems to have resolved it for now, I may have to wait before updating carbon again.

Either you have a bad phone (possible, LG seems to have some QC issues based on some of the crazy reports Ive heard fm other people on this forum [Mine's fine]), or it's all the startup **** that you have going.
Do you usually let it discharge to below 5%?
that's a stupid idea with any device, and seems to be especially damaging to our LGOG.

Have mine 2months been careful not to let the battery shut down on its own but thirds past Monday my car charger weren't bad and the phone shut down. Would not except a charge after that. Went to att and they sent me to a service center. They could not charge it either. They replaced it, now making sure my external battery backup its always charged. Do not want to do that again.

That sounds like that could actually be the issue. On the previous iteration of carbon I almost never allowed it to go below about 10%. However the new update seemed to be harsher on battery life and it slipped into the 1% range several times...
same thing happened to me running root box with no tweaks or anything. I woke up and the phone was off, been that way for two days now. it wasn't on the charger so its definitely possible that it died. I actually found this thread because I could've sworn there was a report of someone who had to do a battery pull. I'm thinking that's my only option now.
I'm completely at a loss here. I was running a 4.3 rom for the past week or two with no issues. Pulled my phone out of my pocket 30 min ago, hit the power button and the screen wouldn't light up. I tried it again and still no go. I tried swiping to unlock, even with the black screen and i felt it vibrate.
Ever since then my phone is non responsive. I can't get it to boot, can't hard reset it, nothing. The vibrates stop when I'm holding down power and down volume but that's about it. I timed the constant vibrates and they happen every 34 seconds according to the Win8 clock (which i've heard in inaccurate).
I'm gonna let the battery drain and hope that it will boot back up after it dies...but until then, any ideas?
Try plugging it into your computer and see what comes up. Which 4.3 ROM were you on?

That's the first thing I tried. I get nothing when i plug it into my comp. Nothing pops up in device manager. The comp doesn't detect it at all.
And I was running the 8/23 release of carbon 4.3 and I didn't have one problem with it until this happened :\
EDIT: The phone's battery finally ran out. It stopped vibrating and after a bit i plugged it in. After a few min it just starting doing it again.
I disassembled the phone and removed the battery for awhile hoping it would somehow help. Didn't do anything. It showed the flashing charge light (like when it's really low) for maybe a minute then it stop lighting up at all. Sometimes if i leave it unplugged for a bit and plug it back in it will flash the light again. That's about all I'm getting out of it now.
I'm thinking something failed internally. It happened while it was on and I was using it so there's no possibility that it was from a flash or anything like that.
Took my phone to the sprint store. The tech wasn't sure either but he thought it might be the screen that died. The vibrating could be the phone trying to boot then realizing there's no screen. They took it apart to check for moisture/damage and said I'm good to go for the $50 replacement.
So my new Evo will be here Tuesday.

did you resolved it i'm having same had same issue as you mine is htc sensation but think is the same thing ive replacet the digitizer some day ago and it was working very good untill it start to vibrate and than died, now it flashes an orange light when i try to charge and after a while stops but i cant power it on nothing hapens when i press power button
Did you resolve the issue?
Did you ever resolve this issue? My Evo LTE started doing the exact same thing this evening and all of the Sprint stores are closed until tomorrow. I figure it's something internal that died and I can't see what it's trying to do... I guess you just got the replacement and didn't ever get it resolved with that particular phone?

My samsung galaxy i9300 has been working great for a year and suddenly started to act funny.
One day it works without any problem, then from nowhere, phone lying on the table and the power/shutdown menu starts randomly appearing and popping up, like I would want to turn the phone off or restart it. And Im not even touching it.
I tried many different ROMs, official, custom, I took it to the samsung service and they changed the power button.
I tried different batteries, chargers, switched the main board to different s3 phone, but it still, once in a while, does that popping up power off menu thing.
If I let the menu appear for a certain period of time and do nothing, the popping up frequency gets higher and higher until it restarts the phone and then ends in bootloop.
Sometimes if I remove the battery for a certain period of time, the phone starts up and works like nothing happened a minute ago. Other times it does not boot up and stays in bootloop.
I figured out that if I continue to push power button in a one second intervals after powering the phone, it continues to boot up and starts up. I enter the PIN code and then the phone either acts again like nothing happened, or starts the popping thing again.
If I keep pushing the power button while the popping up shutdown menu is happening, I kind of cancel the whole thing and phone works okay, ending again either in no problem state and working like a new phone, or restarting itself and bootlooping.
It doen not happend at certain time or while doing any specific activity or while in specific app, or anything, totaly random thing, sometimes during the call, week later during the night, 2 days after in my pocket, 10 hours later while lying on the table.
Thank you for any ideas what could be causing this.
Better ask for a new replacement from Samsung.

I had this exact same issue. It's simply the power button acting funny/getting stuck. Mine got changed and now everything works as it's supposed to again.

It acts really wierd. Its been working for another 3-4 days, and then yesterday, the issue started again for like 5-10 minutes. Since then, its been okay again. The power button is perfectly fine, I even tried to dissambly the whole phone, power button is not loose at all.
It feels like there is some kind of interuption for a while and it starts the issue. I dont understand much about frequencies, but could any radio frequency or whatever cause such a thing?
