We already know the Froyo-running LG Optimus One best-seller will be getting the Android Gingerbread update, but so far there was no telling when this might happen. Now, thanks to LG India we know that the update will most likely be happening in May
LG initially stated the Optimus One won't be upgraded to Android 2.3 because it doesn't meet the minimum requirements. However the company changed its mind shortly after that and promised us a Gingerbread update. It will come half a year later - somewhere by the end of May.
And just when we thought things are about to become crystal-clear LG posted another statement to confuse us. It seems the May thing is not confirmed and things might change.
We are hoping this second message has something to do with the LG legal department, who are afraid of the consequences if the company misses a promised release date.
Anyway, the most important thing here is LG is working on the Gingerbread update and it close to being completed.
thanks for the update... where did LG India mention a release in may???
Lucky Lucky , I called Singapore's LG Service Centre and they don't think it's possible for gingerbread to be updated.
But I'm being optimistic and I'm sure that Gingerbread update will happen.
it is confirmed in my country, as LG has publish an Ad with a promise that O1 is 'upgradeable' to Gingerbread.
thanks for posting old news. search before creating new thread in future.
also post the source of the news. in this case, gsm arena.

Gingerbread will be launching in July here in india
Can't wait for the offical upgrade...
What does this mean for people like me that have already installed 2.3.3 thru CM7 ????
It doesn't matter. As soon as we will have an official version, somebody will root it and create a flashable zip. So don't worry.
lets hope that the touchscreen bug is fixed otherwise the gingerbread update would be a waste
Is there any leaked rumors on 2.3.3? Although 2.3.3 is released in 1-3 months, it's surprisingly few rumors. Strangely, the only rumors I heard is those fake pictures from the Chinese forum.
no...
This thread is dumb.
Apparently not, otherwise you had not bothered to anwser
That makes no sense...
I'm trying to (hopefully) dissuade you from making such pointless threads in the future

I do not understand why you think this thread is dumb. Why is it wrong to discuss rumors?
There on 10000 threads about the update already...
The photos may be a fake, but update it's certainly true because it came from official sony ericsson blog, and support answer all question about it.
Since it is obvious that you are skeptic about release here you go :
Uploaded with ImageShack.us
Which on mine language means that 2.3 will be available for X10 in late Q2, early Q3..
Anyway you can find it yourself on sony ericsson support page..
Just be patient, like I m..
"Rumors" from SE themselves:
Instead of leaving its X10 handsets on Android 2.1, Sony Ericsson has just announced it will upgrade the Xperia X10 to Gingerbread, deciding to confirm this after it “was able to deliver a good user experience” with the latest Google firmware.
Only unlocked handsets will definitely receive it, with carrier updates coming on a case by case basis.
When will the upgrade be available for me?
The roll-out is planned to start end Q2/early Q3 this year. Today, XperiaTM X10 is available in the market both in generic trade version and in versions customized for operators. Due to the resources available in this special project, we will focus on delivering trade versions of the software. Regarding possible customized operators kit we will have to get back with more information on this at a later stage. But we want to be very clear already at this stage on the fact that some of you may not get this upgrade.

This means that if you want to have you upgrade, you need to have the generic version or you can flash the generic version on your x10, this most likely would work in the same way.
Also they will release this based on areas "i believe", first usa or china, then,... ,...

Actually I'd go as far as to say they'll release the update first in scandinavian countries based on the fact that that's what they did when releasing the 2.1 update. Also Sony Ericsson HQ is located in Sweden so it would make sense.
So Frnz does that mean..if u r using any custom 2.2 rom...u need to go bak to stock 2.1 for getting 2.3.3 update frm Sony...,??????

+1. Didn't make a bit of sense.
http://www.tcmagazine.com/tcm/news/...-and-carriers-adopt-android-update-guidelines
This would also mean that x8, x10 mini and x10 mini pro will be obliged to receive further Android updates. Since the guidelines from google also include already released phones.
Since the Release of the mini/mini pro its almost a year so we would still have a few months left on our updates.
Lets hope SE decides to do it.
Is it not only for "new devices"?
On a german news site a read it will also include older devices. But i guess we will have to wait and see
Sent from my U20i using XDA Premium App
I hope that our X10 mini/pro will be also included in this
Official Gingerbread would be pretty nice, I'm thankful for nobodyatall's and the other developers work on their custom ROMS, right now the VGA-only camera and lack of Flash is the only thing stopping me from moving over to MiniCM7.
Hmm. This is very interesting and I can't believe Google is coming to our rescue (really they're just defending their business etc. but we benefit).
I notice in the article it does say new devices. But yes our Minis are still under SE's 2 year update. However, SE have bullshi**ted before about what these phones are capable of re: X10 dualtouch etc. then release it. But, our devices under SE's 2 years and the new Minis on 2.3 makes me think that there is still a chance. I've read some devs on here say that much will be different in the new Minis and porting the software in the future will likely not work, but I still think SE could port it themselves via an official 'generic' release like they did with the X10. Not telling us that now saves them 5million questions every day about when we get it. Let's hope something is leaked...I LOVE leaks...

What are these April 2011 updates certified? Has anyone discussed them?...
Phoney, I think you'll be more than pleasantly surprised with the MiniCM7 ROM from Owain and Slade87. I've been using it for two weeks now and found the upgrade process very simple. The rom offers dual touch, access to the full 256mb of internal storage, very easy to put your apps onto sd, you can run it faster than the 600 Mhz specified by Sony, its a very stable rom.
Just make sure you do a backup first, you can always recover back to the standard SE rom, then you'll realise just how bad it is.
You'll turn your mini pro into a brand new, sexy rom for only a few hours (probably less than that) work.
I also use Owain and Slades Custom ROM and ist very Stable , Fast and works great
Its worth to update that rom!
And i think that SE will not bring bigger updates for us!! so Iam lucky that this community have so great DEVS
So big thx to Owain and Slade87
In my opinion, we should encourage SE to update our devices to gingerbread..
Personally I would only have a peak and probably return to the ROM I'm currently using (NobodyAtAll's CM7 ASOP). The main advantage i see here however is that things like full 5mp camera support etc.. would be much simpler to obtain if it just becomes a question of moving the various files and drivers from SE's 2.3.4 to NAA's or any other CM7/2.3 rom
i'd rather using your ROM slade , its alot better xD
means tat we will get the ginger bread?
that means that the old ones xperia will be very very stable with those new android firmwares?
Hell Yea!!

lo mismo digo yo
w00t! If they update us to GB or even Froyo, that means they will need to update the kernel to support functionality in the new versions. (e.g. tethering/iptables) Keeping my fingers crossed.
Unless I'm mistaken, that Google agreement mentioned ONLY NEW devices. There is no news, as far as I know right now, that this covers devices already released. I just thought I'd say this before people start blowing up balloons - there is absolutely no hint of 2.3 for our Minis by SE so I don't know where people get the excitement from.
I don't know whether you've read about the security issues regarding the vulnerability of the android phones
blogs.computerworld.com/18304/scary_android_security_hole_in_99_of_phones_panic?af[/url]
(sorry, can't post links yet)
but in whatever way google tackles this problem, this issue might prompt them to release further updates to every android phone. Article says only versions 2.3.4. or later are safe.
I read this indeed ^^^^ and I think Google is much more serious about updating than manufacturers. I don't know what kind of pressure they might exert on manufacturers to update recently released devices both because of this security issue (before 2.3) and because of that new 18 month agreement for updates. Here's hoping.
Hope we get updated...
I think they should hire owain and slade - that would solve lot of things
It's only for NEW devices and unfortunately SE doesn't say anything about us
[Q] will att gs2 get ics? and if so, does anyone know when??

Certainly, I can say with 100% certainty that nobody knows WHEN for certain.
ICS roms will pop up here as fast as humanly possible once we have source code. As for an official update from Samsung to ICS: given the history with the Captivate getting official gingerbread, don't hold your breath. In fact don't even stay up late waiting for it to get home. You might as well order a pizza and turn on Netflix because you're in for a long, lonely night like an Eagles song.

There shouldn't be any doubt as to whether all the GSII variants will get ICS. They WILL. It is Samsung's flagship phone they are going to support it for a while. Samsung, HTC, Motorola, and Sony Ericsson have signed a new contract with Google to provide more timely updates. Given you may have to wait a few months after source is released to get ICS, after than updates should come very fast. But either way...custom ROMs will probably get you there sooner.
Just and open discussion.
Do you guys se any possibility for us to receive update to Android Jelly Bean??
[EDIT] 06/28
Including informations about ROM Android Jelly Bean available for Samsung Nexus, now we can start trending informations to have Jelly Bean available for our Sony Xperia S as soon as possible.
For those who work/knows android development, please join us.
Google Stock ROM Jelly Bean can be found at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1737849
This link is not for Sony Xperia S, please don´t try to install in your Sony Device.
[end EDIT]
I hope so, I think we have the hardware
I would think so. The hardware is enough compared to the confirmed JB devices. Hopefully Sony will be a little faster with JB than ICS.
Dare we hope for a late Q4 release?

It will more faster than GB because of Google focused on giving end–user a faster and smoother experience!

Sony is to lazy and foolish to make this update.
You will see they will find and tell us some reason that even dosent exist but they will hold us on ICS.
Shame but, boys get real, it sony.
X10 can run 2.3.4 but will never run it official, back then when came and now.

Seeing the whole 2011 line getting support, I don't think we should still judge Sony by its x10 standard.
Or you can stay in your 2009 as we move on to 2013

"google now" is what I want, Hopefully someone can hack it so we can have it for SXS
i really dont care.....because even if the sony refused to give update for jellybean, our xda developers are there to help us!!! With lot of hard work and programming skills, if they can put ICS in a device like xperia x8, then i think its not a big deal for them to port JB for our device !!! :good:
Ill start thinking of JB once Sony brings us a smooth ICS without bugs.
Once that is in order, ill start to look at JB and what that could bring. Ill not mess up my mind with something 12 months into the future, but rather wait for ICS and a fix.
Yes On Behalf Of Google, Its Possible
BUT
Where The Company Is SONY We Are Talking About
Then Its Unreliable
XPERIA PLAY WAS CANCELLED IN 2011 ICS UPDATE LIST
I will be cynical and say no. Sony released these phones with 2.3 so that they can easily upgrade you to ICS and then say "hey we have already provided you with one upgrade, as per Android manufacturer's standards we will only be providing one delayed update". If the phone had shipped with ICS (which it should have) then they would be obliged to update you to 4.1.
Oh Please !
Unknown13x already mentioned Xperia S will get the JB update. So stop whining all!

Well I only have an Xperia P so maybe I will not be as lucky (still waiting for ICS). Either way I wouldn't count on anything until you actually get an update notification. Having been an owner of a few HTC Android and Nokia Lumia devices you learn to only believe what you see and not what you read on forums (or even from official company press releases).
4.1 isn't as big of a jump as 2.3, so I have my fingers crossed.
^
P may be getting JB too. We will need to wait for unknown13x to comment on it though.
Or maybe it's like the X10: we get every second update. X10 started with 1.6, skipped 2.0, updated to 2.1, skipped 2.2, updated to 2.3.. So in our case with the xperia S: 2.3 + delayed but promised 4.0, skipping 4.1, updating to 4.2 (!?)^^
as I read JB should work like IOS ! smooth as butter ! Hope we will recive it sometimes(faster)
we will get it end of Q2 next year i bet haha
We're definitely getting all 4.x branch minor releases. It's coming when it's done, they should be able to do it earlier now that the PDK is out and it's a minor release so not many low level changes should be needed. I'm hoping we get kernel sources before AOSP drops so we should, hopefully, be all set to compile it the day it's out and move on to merging it with existing custom code bases such as AOKP and CM.
Ok, seems like these devices are getting it: S, P, AcroHD, SX and GX almost 100%, sola, U and go quite likely, ArcS might get it later but that's all speculation.
