Optimus p500 to get update in may !![india] - Optimus One, P500, V General

We already know the Froyo-running LG Optimus One best-seller will be getting the Android Gingerbread update, but so far there was no telling when this might happen. Now, thanks to LG India we know that the update will most likely be happening in May
LG initially stated the Optimus One won't be upgraded to Android 2.3 because it doesn't meet the minimum requirements. However the company changed its mind shortly after that and promised us a Gingerbread update. It will come half a year later - somewhere by the end of May.
And just when we thought things are about to become crystal-clear LG posted another statement to confuse us. It seems the May thing is not confirmed and things might change.
We are hoping this second message has something to do with the LG legal department, who are afraid of the consequences if the company misses a promised release date.
Anyway, the most important thing here is LG is working on the Gingerbread update and it close to being completed.

thanks for the update... where did LG India mention a release in may???

Lucky Lucky , I called Singapore's LG Service Centre and they don't think it's possible for gingerbread to be updated.
But I'm being optimistic and I'm sure that Gingerbread update will happen.

it is confirmed in my country, as LG has publish an Ad with a promise that O1 is 'upgradeable' to Gingerbread.

thanks for posting old news. search before creating new thread in future.
also post the source of the news. in this case, gsm arena.
www.gsmarena.com/lg_optimus_one_will_get_gingerbread_this_may_hopefully-news-2423.php

Gingerbread will be launching in July here in india
Can't wait for the offical upgrade...

What does this mean for people like me that have already installed 2.3.3 thru CM7 ????

It doesn't matter. As soon as we will have an official version, somebody will root it and create a flashable zip. So don't worry.

lets hope that the touchscreen bug is fixed otherwise the gingerbread update would be a waste

[News] No official gingerbread for LG P500

Bad news fellas - the LG Optimus One P500 is obviously going to be stuck to Froyo for the rest of its life. The device that is certainly one of the best bargains you can get for the holiday season, but despite being announced just a few weeks before Gingerbread was released, it won't get a chance to taste it.
It's not the first time a manufacturer has let down its users with OS updates. Besides it is probably more tolerable here, considering that the Optimus One is meant to rival high-end feature phones, rather than smartphone top-dogs. However what's most embarrassing is the way LG brought the news to its customers.
A post on the LG Facebook page states that the Optimus One P500 won't be updated because there's a 1GHz minimum requirement for Gingerbread. Makes total sense, right? They can't update it without fixing the hardware, which is impossible. Except that it's not true and there is no such Gingerbread requirement and that was confirmed by the Android guru Dan Morill.
We really hope it's a case of the guys maintaining the Facebook page being ill-informed or otherwise there's no explanation for the LG blatant lies.

For me it's not a problem...if does everything good on froyo...
But I see a little "hope" of devs to get something "gingerbread" to work with P500 since there is no 1GHz minimum requirement
and is bull**** because there is no need 1Ghz gingerbread to run ...
Okay, there are no information from LG, everything else is a lie. I got an answer of the LG support and they told me, it isn't clear right now. So just wait and stay cool.

To be honest, this LG-guy seems to me a little bit like he don't really know what is happening there. If he didn't know that Gingerbread don't require a 1Ghz CPU, I think that his comment should not be seen as an official statement.
/edit: And sorry for my bad english
after being on T-Mobile as long as I have, I'm used to things like this. If i ever want any updates, I have to ROOT and install a cooked version of the update. It happened on the Mytouch 3G, and it will most likely have to happen on my LGOT.
Lets focus on Cyanogen and the devs on here and on android central for the best info on 2.3 coming to the LG OO.
I reckon the downside of buying a full feature though budget Android phone is that you - realistically from a business perspective - can't expect the manufacturer to invest money to give you more than you paid for (which is an Android Froyo phone, nothing more, nothing less).
TL;DR: You get what you pay for.
What you may (realistically?) expect is that they allocate means to solve current critical firmware issues, if and when confirmed.

Hopes from LG for a Gingerbread P500
Guys, just read a good news from Engadget: (sorry for not able to post link as i'm a newbie)
You might remember yesterday's brouhaha over LG's seemingly false claim that Android 2.3 Gingerbread requires a 1GHz processor or better, using it as a justification for keeping an official upgrade out of the hopes and dreams of Optimus One owners around the globe -- but the good news is that it appears to have been a misunderstanding. Here's the official statement from LG:
"LG released information prematurely regarding the minimum processor upgrade requirements for the LG Optimus. Google recently announced the Gingerbread platform and has not yet published the Gingerbread Compatibility Definition Document (CDD) or the public branch open source code. Once the CDD and the source code is public, LG will evaluate the upgradability of the Optimus Series. We apologize for any confusion or misunderstanding. We will alert you as soon as more information on this topic is available."
So they're taking responsibility for jumping the gun and have committed to "evaluating the upgradability" of the Optimus line once Google's published Gingerbread's official requirements and turned loose the source code. Of course, it's possible they'll ultimately find another reason for keeping the phones stuck on Froyo -- but for now, we've got a sliver of hope.

LG will upgrade all Optimus One smartphones currently using the Froyo OS to the next version of the Android OS, Gingerbread. Details of the upgrade schedule will be announced locally in due course. We sincerely apologize for the confusion and misunderstanding that was caused regarding this issue.

Guys did u notice one thing,..., the camera app has the same icon as froyo..?
same goes for gallery, phone book, calc, ... the list goes on...
Also, battery, signal, 3g...are all weird ... especially signal...its supposed to turn green when its connected to google servers, isn't it?
Are u sure this is the " ufficiale " Gingerbread ROM for Optimus One p500 ?
Somehow I don't think LG will post such a HUGE RELEASE in such a small manner - video - that only a few come to know about ( initially )....( just thinking out aloud )

also on facebook:
We are still working on a new version that improves the management of the MicroSD (avoiding unwanted disconnections) and the management of the touch (do not let the CPU goes to 100% when you touch the display).

It's an official LG facebook page for Italian customers. The announcement was also made in Italian. Yes, it's official. But yes, it'll be made in English as well.
But I believe we will get it before the Italian version.

I don't know what to believe. The release date keep getting pushed out. Last I was told, it should out in May...
I think LG wait for the Optimus 2x gingerbread update......Optimus One mustn't be the first phone with 2.3.....
Well, i think it will roll out on other country first, way before Italy...
I am on a Singaporean FW. Hope that means we will get it sooner. Praying...
We'll just have to wait and see.
Hopefully it will be released by the end of this month, but if it will be July, also not a big problem.
One way or the other, we're getting an official Gingerbread.

I agree. I wish they release just the sources
if they cud just release the sources..the devs cud work on them i m thinking of sending another email to them..btw whats up with these custom roms based on this leaked 2.3 rom???good enough for everyday non gaming use???
i tot delay until July ??
when delay until August ???
I think they released the buggy leaked version intentionally for guys like mik , frnaco , andy to fix it . I am sure that , if the leaked version bugs are fixed , the 2.3 will appear .
LG two words for you... @#$% YOU!!!! Lazy ass!!!
Hahahah IMHO within some days they'll make some leaked sources "magically" appear and when our developers will have fixed them, they'll just copy the fixes and release GB for O1...
This is hardly a surprise. Have you noticed that no LG phones have gingerbread at all? Not even the brand new ones. I think the ginger update will only be released when it works on all phones including the Optimus 2X and the Optimus Black. I don't really think we will see the update for the Optimus One before then.
Anyhow, I think this is mostly irrelevant. I got this phone back in November as a stop gag / entry point onto the smartphone land and it served it's purpose. To me, there isn't much point in updating it.
That doesn't mean old phones shouldn't be updated, they should, but with the Android update methods/structures I can't see this being very feasible. That's why I eagerly await to see what will Google do with Ice cream Sandwich to keep that "18 months" up to date promise they made. If the answer isn't very convincing I'll just switch to Windows Phone 7. That's what I originally wanted but the platform wasn't very mature, now with the Mango update things look very different.
All in all, let's see what Google will do on Q4 and then I, and you guys as well, will decide what to do.

Well man, from your point of view maybe you're right...
But I choosed Android because it is an open-source OS, so it has its pros and its cons... The mainly pro is that if your brand doesn't decide to update your OS or your phone is not supported officially, there will be a developer who will try to port another source to your device...

V20E Firmware for Germany

I just downloaded - using the Original LG Firmware tool - a new firmware for my german P500. The filename is V20E_00.kdz, i.e. the same as the open european firmware. However, these files are different:
V20E_00.kdz (open european firmware)
MD5: bbffd451cfeb662c13c75fe850415892
V20E_00.kdz (newest german firmware)
MD5: 154667c019b95160fddbbdaa5b769ac6
Anyone care to test this official german firmware? Hopefully the microphone bug and proximity sensor bug will have been remedied...
From a first test I can at least say that the alignment of the WIFI, GPS etc. icons has been fixed. So there is actually hope that the other bugs have been fixed as well...
i dont think so, LG doesnt spend a lot of time in old devices - they arent interested
in doing stupid things, better they produce a lot of new (****) devices, see the new flagship "Optimus SX" on "saturn" market ... 2 cameras on the back side, wow cool 3D
if they copying only the images like a hologram to each other and named it "3D"
all other hardware is like in all new phones if we read about cpu, ram or internal memory.
back to topic:
i dont install lg software anymore, so it doesnt matter if version is V20A or V20Z - its

Really guys...
I would lie in saying I'm particularly thrilled about LG's update policy. I'm certainly not.
However, that is not the point here! The precise question was if someone could contribute by testing the new firmware and indicating if the known bugs are still there or not. The icon alignment bug is not. And if the microphone bug and proximity sensor bug are gone as well, I would say that most people would call the new firmware o.k.
So please refrain from further "LG sucks" messages. If LG and the P500 are so bad, just don't use it, but leave people alone who are trying to improve the situation with the P500. Or maybe concentrate your energy by improving support for the Cyanogenmod for the P500... Many people would love to see an official CM for the Optimus One. Until then, I think I could do with a (mostly) bugfree 2.3.3 LG firmware.
In other words: such comments are not helping at all, and one could easily call them spam! So don't.
ok, i agree in one point:
P500 is only to old for industrial nations, in 3rd world countries the device is up to date
and they need support - i give support for these users, for me and my self: i learn
a lot about android on this device because its very simple hardware.
btw:
you thought LG fixes all bugs - i can not believe that, if they would do so they cant sale other new devices,
so they let a few bugs in old devices and peoples buys a new one ... its marketing, do you know something about it ?
recently i updated from v20b to v20c (india) and m regretting now.
phone has become way too laggy now.
it takes aprrox 2 mins to connect to mobile network
free space got reduced (now 157mb only even after factory reset)
while syncing gmail, fb, twitter it just hangs. ****ty lg. hate u.
i'll switch to andy's rom after he releases his bug fixed rom.

Lots of ppl use the P500 that can upgrade to other LG high-end devices, if they dont give support to this device they will lost lots of users like with the Gw620 fiasco so they need to keep an eye in this terminal, thats also marketing.
And LG do fixed bugs in the V20G European firmware so stop spamming, if you don't like official firmware it's your problem man, theres no need to spam every v20 rom thread with idiotic comments.

Regarding The Upcoming ICS update ....

well a couple of weeks ago i asked this question and i was comparing things between some devices and thank you guys you helped me figure a lot of things out and i finally decided that iam getting the atrix 4g no doubt it's an awesome super powerful phone but how bad is it to buy an outdated phone " almost 1.5 years old " ? and i also wanted to know if there is any chance that Motorola will abandon releasing the ics update ? !! beacuse as bad as i wanna wait for the update to come out before i buy the device i can't soo if you told me that it's 100% sure the the update is coming out iam buying the phone next week ... and some thing ealse i wanted to clarify i read on the motorolla website that the update coming in Q3 2012 is just for at&t and i live in egypt so obviously there is no at&t here and from what i understand i won't be able to update OTA and i just wanted to know what will be the availlable options for me then to update rather than waitng for the international update which has no specified date yet ? !!! and something more does the Atrix 4g has any common hardware problems as i'll be bootloader unlocking my phone maybe 2 weeks after i get it ( i mean because of voiding the warranty and this stuff ) ?
and thank i guys again in advance u rock :good:
You need to search around a bit more next time. These answers are relatively easy to find:
-I think the general consensus is that people here are happy with their phones but if you can spend more to get a phone with better specs, not potentially have a problem buying an Atrix with a locked bootloader, not have to deal with a company like nvidia, etc. then you might want to look elsewhere.
-There is NO proof that Motorola WON'T release ICS. There are still several other phones that fall in the Q3 schedule that also haven't been updated and we're still in Q3. Even if there's a small chance it won't be released, there's still the chance that drivers from other phones can be used to stabilize an Atrix rom.
-If you're already talking about unlocking the bootloader then you should know by now that OTA is completely irrelevant. You can flash the update as you would any other rom.
-Digitizer and wifi/bluetooth issues seem to be the biggest hardware problems. Unlocking a bootloader on any phone will void the warranty, but it's been the experience of many people that Motorola will still repair phones under warranty anyway. Every you decision you make, from buying a phone to crossing the street, is at your own risk.

If you still not buy the Atrix yet, then you still have a good choice to buy Galaxy Nexus, S2, Notes for your work smoothly.
ROM update is the most important part of Android OS. Try to google more and you can find out the real fact behind smile face of people here.:silly:

The common belief is that nvidia is the one holding up the drivers for Moto to use for ICS.
You'll probably find a few other threads (in fact, there's another one right on this page) where people will compare phone XYZ to the Atrix so you can see the benefits and disadvantages. It all depends on which specific phone you're comparing, as well as what exactly you need from your phone. Like anything else, this phone has several things few or no other phones have but also might fall short (screen, processor speed, etc.) in others. It's up to you to figure out what you need.
The good thing is that this community is surprisingly active, even for a phone that came out last year.
I'm not gonna quote all of that, but once AT&T releases ICS then EVERYONE will have it on CM9/10.
We only want ICS for the drivers to put into CM, and other custom ROMS. Trust me nobody here wants stock bloat...

I'm not gonna quote all of that, but once AT&T releases ICS then EVERYONE will have it on CM9/10.
We only want ICS for the drivers to put into CM, and other custom ROMS. Trust me nobody here wants stock bloat...
