My photon was on 5% about an hour ago... then it turned itself off. I plugged it in to the charger and a "white/faint yellow" LED comes on. Normally the photon doesn't have a charge LED so this certainly struck me as odd.
It has been sitting for almost an hour and still won't turn on.
I took the battery out and reconnected the charger and the white/faint yellow LED comes back on, even with the battery pulled out.
What is happening here? Has anyone seen this?
I've see green/orange/red LED flashes for diff things but never white.
Well I found this thread: http://forums.androidcentral.com/sprint-photon/107931-led-not-working.html#post1147045
Looks like white means very low battery and charging. Now the white light has gone off while plugged in... But it still will not turn on
Turns out, I was plugging it into a PC usb that didn't have the drivers installed. The phone won't charge if the moto drivers are not installed, regardless of the light
I plugged it into a wall charger and viola... its back and running.
False alarm!
Lol, exact same thing happened to me! I totally freaked out, but plugged it in a wall and started working.
same thing happened to me yesterday. I plugged into the wall, NOTHING. I started freaking out, until I pulled the battery and re installed it. LED charge light then came on and all was good. Weird.
Can someone help me i have a photon also but when i plug it up it says failed to boot 2 starting rsd mode battery too low to flash and it wont boot up when plugged up to a computer. also when i plug it into the wall it just boot to the m sign

- Pull battery
- Put it back in so it's off
- Keep it plugged into the wall to charge it
- Once charged, power into RSD mode (power+vol up)
- Plug into computer and start RSD and flash 154_5 SBF to get back to stock
- then flash 198_7 SBF for good measure.
- Reboot
When i try that nothing works, it just stays on the white led light
I just bought mine from best buy and it did the same thing..they exchanged the phone since it was defective..

Photon won't turn on anymore. White LED when plugged in
i have a refurbished replacement photon from best buy geek squad that i got last month. within a few days it was acting strange and randomly/often turning itself off. the battery was fully charged yet the unit would often times power down. this happened a lot the first few weeks. then last week the issue seemed to stop and it stayed on 24/7 as i charged it frequently. all was well until yesterday.
i dropped my phone from about 2 feet. the phone turned off and only the "m" boot up screen appeared after i powered on, then it went black. i had a fully charged battery in the unit when this happened. i plugged the charging cable into the phone and it kept booting up to this static "m" screen then turning off. the LED notification light went red and after numerous times powering on and off and resetting the battery (and sim card) i finally got a "5%" battery screen. a few seconds later it showed 100% battery then kept rebooting to the static "m" screen and shutting off again. then i started getting a "?" screen for the battery a few times and back to the 5% and it changed to 80%/100% very quickly and back to the blank screen. i left it plugged in overnight.
now the LED notification light turned white and the phone cannot be powered on. i tried another battery without any success so that shouldn't be the issue.
any ideas what to try next?

Try to fully charge your battery using portable battery charger.
When battery full charge, try to entering recovery mode. From off condition, press both power and volume down, press down until you find android recovery and press volume up button. After you see exclamation logos, press both volume up and down. Then select wipe data. Hope fully you can still entering recovery mode.
If you cannot enter recovery mode, try to enter RSD protocol.
step is, connect your photon to PC using cable data, press both volume up and power, wait until it show RSD Protocol, than flash it again.
How to flash using RSDLite is in development section, you can read there.
Hopefully its can work

My Droid Razr Maxx completely died and now won't charge or turn on,there also is a white led light located left top of phone that's on when charger is plug in. My razr was not rooted or unlock 2.3.5.Please help, any advice will be rewarded thru PayPal. I'm trying to avoid replacing it with a refurbished phone,my phone has had a screen protector and been in a case since day one. Thanks for any and all help, sorry if this issue has been address.

Hold down screen lock button and down volume button for about 20 seconds and then the light should turn off. It should turn on, the phone, or you can put it on by hold the screen lock button.
do this while plugged into the wall, not usb
I wish it was that easy,I try holding power nd volume up then down and vice versa to no avail. I also have my phone plug into my wall charger. If anyone helps me get my phone turn on and charge I will donate to your PayPal asap.

Try a different USB cable and plug it into a USB port on the computer. This isolates the USB and the Moto charger to make sure they're not the cause.

Try holding both vol up and down together, then hold the power button, so 3 buttons are pressed at the same time, and hope something happens.
Any of this end up working for ya?

The white led means you're out of battery and conected but not charging. This happend due a rom flash error.
You'll need a Factory Cable to put a new firmware on it and then charge after that

If you got it from Verizon you still have manufacturer warranty, return it.
Had this problem myself, white light, couldn't charge, tried every trick there was. With stock cable, this is how I got my phone to charge:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qs2t-7ALT7U
Phone so sharp, I sliced myself.
I got this many times when trying to charge my phone via USB on my laptop.
I held vol up/down and the power button like Nikorasu recommended and the light disappeared and the phone gave me the "DUAL CORE TECHNOLOGY" screen, looked as if it was going to turn on and then the light turned back on and the screen went back to black.
*UPDATE*
I left the phone plugged in for a long time and I came back to see the white light off and the phone *on* and charging. How nice.

Plugging it into the usb port of a laptop is not enough. I've had cases where I plug my phone to the computer to transfer files and the battery level actually dropped.
Use the Razr charger.
Thanks!!!
I didn't know this handy reset feature, until my razr froze and turned into a paperweight for the rest of the evening.
(thought maybe I wrecked it with some new 'root only' apps)
The reset worked great and runs fine.
Only get Motorola logo after 3 hours of charging
Hi,
I'm new to Droid Razr's and I have a Maxx that is doing this. I tried the (volume +/-, then plug in) option and phone has stayed on Motorola screen for a few hours. No go on the charging screen. Not sure if the Maxx I got has other issues. I've used a motorola usb/wall adapter and a Motorola MicroUSB from a Droid X dock that is supposed to be a faster charger.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Victor
My Maxx is in a similar situation. When I plug it in the Motorola dual core screen comes on and then it goes to the safe system screen where it asks you to touch menu to enter safestrap or search to skip. After touching either button the screen just goes black. Sometimes when I plug it in it will show a red battery at 0% then immediately jump to 5% and then after a moment or two it shows a blue battery at 100% but still won't turn on... When I plug it into my laptop though the screen stays black and the white led is on. Do I need a factory cable to fix this or what? Thanks in advance for any help.

Exactly! ...I have this phone and the EXACT same charge problem, white light, phone dead has happened multiple times. My galaxy s3 charger won't fix it....no other usb charger works. Every time I must use all oem chargers and I solve my problem. Why? I believe it is because the razr maxx's larger battery uses a slightly higher charge voltage. (5.1v vs. 4.5 v to be exact) ...look at the charger specs. After leaving on the oem charger for some time, it never fails to boot.
I plugged in my razr before I went to bed. I've been using a HTC plug and cable for the last few months no problems. Woke up this morning and battery was at 5% and then the phone died completely soon after. I plugged it in using my original motorola plug and cable. The dual core screen came up and then the battery level said 0% and it looked like it was charging. It died again after about half an hour. Now nothing will get the phone going. I also tried the hard reset (Power and volume down). The phone is unrooted and hadn't been updated to Jellybean yet.
Any ideas what I can try?

Try using the correct charger and charge it for about an hour, thats the first thing I would try. How long is the htc cable you're using because the longer the cable the slower the charge.
I have tried multiple different chargers with no joy. I think the problem is with the connection. When I plug a charger in the white charging light flashes briefly for a second. I checked the connection for dust and it looks clear?
Try Booting into bp tool or hw diag (hold vol up and vol down then press power should see black screen with white text vol down moves cursor vol IP selects) the phone should charge if left in one of these modes (if you can even make it this far without the bat dying that is). if that don't work could try disassembling then charging the battery directly (never tried this its only an idea try at you own risk)
My xt910 razr maxx has suffered exactly the same fate overnight. Worked fine yesterday now it's dead with the only sign of life from the white led when attaching the moto usb charger. Phone wasn't run flat prior to this. Baffling

Yes I have and no button combination produces as much as a glimmer. I've had the back off and checked the battery for charge, it shows 4.3 volts so it's not that. Something has failed catastrophically I fear.
Check the battery's cable that connects to your phone. If that cable was broke, you can just see the battery level but without charging it.

I've read around this a little now and have invested £3 in a Motorola Factory Cable of fleabay which hopefully will resolve the issue. Due to be delivered next week so I'll keep you posted......
Well got the factory cable and tried it holding the vol down button. Nothing. Took the back off the phone and checked the voltage of the battery 2.75v. Removed the battery and tried the factory cable with vol down. Still nothing. Reinstalled battery and left charging off a pc overnight, this morning it had risen to 2.83v. Starting to think that this phone has had it
Cut the end off a micro usb cable, exposed the wires and connected the red and black to the battery terminals then plugged it into the moto wall wart. Left it until fully charged....volt meter read 5.1v, the output of the charger. Disconnected and checked charge, 4.2v out of the battery.
still dead. Nothing. No red moto screen, no recovery nothing. Something else must be amiss. All I get is a brief white led flash when I plug in the standard charger cable.
anyone have any ideas where to go from here other than the skip?!
Just resurrecting this thread in the hope someone has found a solution....
I still have a brick which is unresponsive to two factory cables plugged into my PC with and without the battery in.
Trouble is I've got pictures on there I'd like to recover if possible which causes me to persist with this troublesome device!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2431617
I access the boot menu by holding both vol up and down, and pressing the power button (hold for ~2 seconds, and release the power button, while still holding vol +/-. Volume down will only send you to APFastboot. Check out the post, I encountered the same problem. The final method I tried was the winner. Good luck, and let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks for that, I'll certainly give it ago when I get a free hour one evening this week. I am concerned though that the factory cable doesn't work, I was under the impression that the phone should at least respond to its connection in some way - it doesn't even when vol-is depressed when connecting to pc.
The only response I get from the phone is a brief flash of the white led as the usb cable (factory or charging) is connected to it.
That indicates that there isn't any power management remaining on the phone, and the battery is pretty weak. You'll need to get the battery charged up manually. After you flash with the last method I used, you should be able to reconnect the battery and charge the phone all the way up before booting. Sounds like you're having the exact same problem I did.

Really , Really wanted this to work but it doesn't look promising.
Made the USB charge cable as described (white and black twisted together to -ve, red on its own to +ve). Battery removed from phone, usb on charge cable connected to PC.
5 Volts found at the battery connection terminals. Original Moto Data cable connected to phone then PC. White LED flashed on for slightly longer than before then off. No response from phone - nothing on the screen or vibration with or without any combination of Vol- and vol+.
Battery refitted and charge lead attached to terminals as above to charge from PC. Now reading 4V across the terminals charge lead plugged in, 3.84V cable unplugged so presumed charged.
Still no response other than the brief white LED from the phone with either the Data or Factory cables and Vol-(or any other Vol configurations).
Any ideas???
I assume you tried pressing and holding all the buttons, for five or ten seconds, or even a little longer, to try a full reboot. Beyond that, I wish I could help more. I'm slap out of ideas. This was the last step for me (as the solution usually is). The main board might have had it, though I don't have a clue why.

I am not sure if you already watched this video, its for droid razr maxx, charging a dead battery and works perfectly for droid razr too.
My droid razr was exactly in same condition, white light and no charging, did not power up, completely dead.
I popped open the back case, connected the modified usb cable wires to the positive (Red wire) and negative (black wire) ends of the battery and let it charge (stay connected) for one hour. Then i pressed vol up+ vol down + power button. And my phone switched on.
If only your battery is dead, this should work.
I've never owned a RAZR but a buddy of mine gave me his to try to get running again. I've seen it boot to OS (it's all stock) once, but as soon as I unlocked it the phone rebooted and again went blank, only displaying the white LED when plugged in. When using vol down and power or vol up and down and power the white led will disappear after ten seconds then reappear after I depress. No recognition in fastboot, not that I expected it to. I've only been using USB to charge it so tonight I'm going to plug it in to my DNA's charger for the night and hope it'll be more responsive tomorrow.
I was hoping someone over here might have some insight? Any help is appreciated.
No one has any ideas ?

My post may pose more questions than it answers. I am far from a pro and even further from being a developer, so I'm just taking a stab at this to see if I can help you.
What happened when you plugged your razr maxx into your Droid DNA charger? Did the phone respond in any way? Two things I am certain about is that one's phone is unable to charge while in Fastboot and that charging with USB (plugged in to computer) provides the least powerful energy output; I would almost say that, when using USB to charge your device, unless your device is powered off or sitting idle, it will basically just keep your phone battery at its current battery level. When you attempt to boot your phone while holding Vol Up, Vol Down, and the power button, does it bring up the initial menu screen, or does it not even get that far?

Hy. I have a razr Maxx XT910. Today I tried to restore a backup of a partition that I made with safestrap to my stock partition. After restoring was finished, I reboot my phone and it will not start anymore. I can not go into recovery, the only thing that it does is: if I long press power button the red Motorola logo appears for 5 sec. and the the phone does nothing, it shows like it is turned off.
Any suggestions?
I tried volume up + power, volume down + power, volume up+volume down+power but no luck. I do not have any more buttons to push .
Edit1: I manage to connect my phone to rsd light (with my screen still off) and when I tried to flash a sw I get an error 'The phone failed to switch to fastboot mode' - result 'FAIL'.
I have no idea what to do next.
Woops! You have the XT910....post removed.
I think that utility is only for the XT912.
It could have failed if the battery was low. Try charging it in a wall socket if this is the case - there is usually a small window in which it will take a charge.
I can only think of going the rsd lite route and flashing JB to start over.
Please let us know.

I charged my phone ( I think). I left it in a wall socket for more then 3h, and it only got hot. The display still would't turn on, just the moto logo for about 10 sec, and then nothing.
In rsd light I have the same error. (pic.1)
I noticed that the screen of the phone wasn't completed black, like a turn off phone. When in the room was dark the display of the phone has a slight glow of dark-light color, but still no text on the display .

Hold vol- and power button untill you see a horizontal line for a moment, like crt animation, that means that your phone is off. After that immediately press vol-,vol+ and power button to get in to the boot menu and choose AP Fastboot...
Sent from my Razr XT910
Yes, you'll have to try getting it into fastboot like @welder73 has explained.
I was in a similar situation and the screen also looked off but it really wasn't. I couldn't get the phone to turn off at all, it kept turning itself on and all I got was a logo. Battery went low but I got it into fastboot. But rsd lite failed. Charged it in wall socket, I actually managed to see a charging icon on the screen (it was not centered but it did show up). Connecting through USB did not give me this result. Once it was at 40% I took it off charge and crossed fingers...rsd lite then flashed the phone.
Keep trying with the charger also to be sure. Try with different key presses (like pow+vol-) and see if it picks up any charge. Because if the phone isn't really off, your battery could be draining.

Thanks guys for the help. I manage to go into fastboot mode and from there I flashed a sw with rsd light and everything went perfect. Now I reroted my phone and flashed a custom rom. Everything is back to normal.
Thanks again!
I'm glad that everything is ok
