What are some cases that are similar (in terms of protection) to the Otterbox case, but without the silicon layer? I don't like how it collects pocket lint and dust and stuff. My friend had a case for his iPhone 4 that was made of soft plastic but it wasn't silicon. I think it might have been an Otterbox case but I can't remember for sure. If no such cases exist, is there anything I can do to prevent the silicon layer from collecting so much dust/lint/etc?

I am aware of those other threads. None of the cases mentioned fits my preferences. I want one with no silicon, but a soft plastic. Your sarcastic use of a screenshot as a reply (with no actual text besides an ellipsis) to my post was unnecessary and offensive. And you never answered my question about keeping the case clean either. Did you even bother reading the text in my actual post?

The, cyclops is reported to be very good for protection, and has an external shell, which covers most of the silicone.
For a higher level, the ballistic hc has an optional outer silicone, so for daily pocket use I plan to take off the outer. Its not breaking news but hope it helps

Yea the post above says it best. Take.the rubber layer off the ballistic and you have exzactly what your looking for. I posted pics of the ballistic witout the rubber layer in my post comparing it to otterbox. If you need more pics let me know. It fits in holster without rubber layer and the kickstand is a plus

Your friends iPhone case was probably a Speck CandyShell case, or sounds like it at least. In my opinion that's the best phone case out, but they are almost completely iPhone exclusive with a few exceptions every now and then... Anyway, the case I used is the Trident Aegis case. It's about the same protection as the defender, and the silicone doesn't attract hardly anything. You might check it out.
the new iphone 4S defender cases have a tougher silicone layer which doesn't feel like it woudl collect as much pocket lint. Much stiffer material, a pain to get on/off, but feels better in the hand.
You should give the Acase Superleggero dual pro it doesn't have as much protection as the otterbox but its by far the most attractive case
Sent from my PG86100 using xda premium
I agree, the Trident Aegis is a superior case to the Otterbox Commuter. Much nicer looking, fits way better, doesn't attract koodies hiding in your pocket, and looks like it'll do a better job if your phone decides it wants to land on one of it's four corners. Wait,... gotta revisit the "nicer looking" part. Just take the "Much" off of it and maybe run with, "looks as nice as the Commuter case". All-in-all, I think the Aegis is a nicer package compared to the Commuter. Some say the Aegis offers protection close to the Defender. Personally, I don't see that though. Besting the Defender when it comes to just plain protection ain't easy. Interested in what you guys think when it comes to Aegis vs Commuter.
Kraken is better then the defender lol smooth and you get the full screen to use also no lint issues plus it's thinner too

Hello all...
I have never posted anything related to accessories, but after buying over 20 different cases for my E3d, this was by far my favorite and only $2.99 plus shipping.
No kick stand, but light, clean, clear, perfect, and the best of all... WILL NOT MAKE YOUR PHONE TOO TICK OR BULKY!
To me, it was the best one I found... AMAZING!!! I fell in love with my phone all over again...
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004XYHVPQ
All the best to you all!
Seems pointless with the bottom edge left unprotected.
I prefer the traditional TPU cases, not bulky or thick to me and best of all, they provide complete edge protection.
Like it but it seems like you might as well go naked. Not very much protection on there. Probably gives a nice grip though sense it's rubberized.
I have that case too and agree with you OP. It's great for all I'm looking for in a case (mainly just protecting the camera). I have a tpu case as well, but this one makes the phone seem much thinner. I'm sure it won't do much for drops, but I don't make it a habit to drop my phone on hard surfaces .
Best case so far?
That is completely subjective and based upon each individual's needs.
I for one found that the best case for my needs was an inexpensive hard plastic case that has a carbon fiber look it doesn't offer much protection if I drop it because it doesn't have any silicone lining...but it serves my purpose - that of being able to fit in the iGrip car dock. I also have a Otterbox Commuter case which offers much more protection. It just isn't the best case for my needs.
I ordered the transparent grey version. Looks a lot like the Case-Mate barely there case but about a quarter of the price. Works for me as this and the case-mate offer the same protection either way.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004XYHVCY
I was definitely intrigued by that case when I was shopping for one, but I prefer to have complete edge protection. I went with TPU and am extremely happy with it.

I'm always curious as to which would offer more drop protection, a TPU case or a Seidio Surface case. One's hard plastic the other is TPU but they both cover all the edges. Would either material handle a drop better?
Here's the Surface case.

Interesting. Is the rubber it self actually thinner than the TPU cases? Adding that little strip of protection across the top and bottom doesnt seem like it adds much bulk.

Corners are well protected. I just don't see how I can damage the botton and top. Main reason I use a cover is to protect agains falls, glass breakage, and such. The only way I an scretch the botton and top is if I atually let something like my keys scratch it... but I never put it together...
So I have VERY good protection without adding more than a very few millimeters on the size... By the way, it protects the camera very well.
While I had my evo, my case was similar (not top or bottom) but much, much thicker... and I had NOT ONE scratch on the phone... what I mean is, I really like the no top / bottom, but its all personal opinion. If you don't mind it, this is the case to go!

The TPU (I got one with the diamonds inside) was my favorite and the one I was using before the I mentioned above, definately a great choice too!
I got something similar from a website that ships from Singapore. There are 2 types one is half the price as the case mate barely there, other is less than $3.
$3 version (not see thru like the OP version)
http://www.obostore.com/hard-plastic-case-skin-faceplate-for-htc-evo-3d-p-1404.html
$14 version - I think slightly better finish than the $3 version and the one I am using.... I bought both.

However, it will take almost 2 weeks to get.
i snagged this one:

it is nice.. protects the cameras also!

Do you have a reputable seller? If so can you provide a link? And can you possibly recommend a holster, seeing as you know the dimensions intimately?

And i can not recommend a holster as i do not use one for this phone.
My red case also arrived yesterday. Here are my impressions:
1. The case looks nice. 2. The case is bulkier than I expected. 3. The case mutes the speaker phone slightly. The speaker is not covered, but a cut out around the speaker would have maximized the volume. 4. I'm confident in the protection the case provides, and I like the case's look. 5. A kickstand would have been nice. 6. The hand-feel is excellent. Whereas the caseless Evo 3d feels hard to grip to me, this case fits my hand well, especially because of the flared corners.
I'm happy with this case and its high level of protection, but I can't wait for someone to make a thin TPU case with thick rubber in the corners to absorb the shock in a drop.

Right now im using the Ballistic as an everyday case.
I used to use the Otterbox as the everyday case but it collected alot of dirt and lent on the silicone portion, the ballistic doesnt seem to do that at all.
With the TPU the case wont be as protected but i do like how it keeps the phones slim profile.

Good to hear about the lint on the ballistic. That was a concern if mine as well. One reason why I was leaning towards the TPU. Now I may get the ballistic.

I have the ballistic case too. ALthough, I do love it, i have gotten SOO many comments about how huge my phone is that it's starting to wear on me. I hate having to pull out the phone from it's case just to prove that hey it's actually pretty slick without the cover.
BUT then, it beats the purpose of having a sleek phone doesn't it? I think I'm going caseless. UNLESS, someone can recommend a thin silicone case that has the same feel as the inner layer of the ballistic case.
I almost considered just using the first layer of the Ballistic case by itself but it's a little lose without the red part clamping down everything. Any recommendations?
I'm looking for some ideas on cases for the sgs2, just ordered mine yesterday and should be here sometime next week so I'm wanting to shop around for a decent case that gives great protection and not much bulk. Right now on my captivate I run an otterbox commuter case that I really love, bit not entirely sure on the commuter design for the sgs2. So any feed back on the different cases that everyone likes would be much appreciated.

I wanted very, very little bulk since I normally don't even use a case. Ended up with this "semi rigid" case from Incipio.
http://www.myincipio.com/Samsung-Ga...-II-ATandT-NGP-Semi-Rigid-Soft-Shell-Case.asp
Looks pretty nice. Technically it's similar to a silicone case I guess, but it's so rigid that it's like a hard shell. 50/50
loving my otter box commuter (for the international). Sucks I may need to find a new one..have to order a new extended battery quick for sxsw...
SGP Neo Hybrid EX
I've tried a LOT of different cases, more than I'd like to admit. This is the one you want - light weight, protects well, has the best screen protector included, if you need one (I don't use it, but I don't put my phone in my pocket with keys). It's also very durable - you won't need another case after this one.

The one thing that you have to do is to make a hole in it, which isn't too difficult. Instructions are in this thread.

Same on the commuter, not sure why people need a new battery I get 15-20 hours with heavy use and a 3-4 hour screen time. I use Entropy's Daily and setCPU to underclock when screen is locked.. On a low use day I can go 24 hours+
I love the commuter for i777. Great case, adds very little bulk. Does add some weight but it's not bad at all. Already saved from a few drops haha. Everything is easily accessible too. I love it.

my only real concern for the otterbox was how the hard shell doesn't cover the corners of the phone with the hard shell part of it, I love the commuter case i got on my cappy but theres been a few times that i dropped it and it landed on one of those corners. zhow thick is the silicon on the corners on the SGS2 commuter?

The corners are pretty thick. They're flush with the plastic part on mine. And the silicon protrudes past the screen so it shouldn't ever land on the screen.

Not loving the Otterbox
So, I've had the Otterbox Commuter for at least a month and there are a few things that are not great about it (to the point that I'm beginning to look for a new case):
It gets very "linty" when in your pocket (such that I remove the case when I travel on business)
The rubber is very soft and pliable; to the point of pulling loose when removing the phone from my pocket
There is no rubber on the back, so it slides when on a desk or dashboard
I'm sure these points are just me being picky

After numerous hours of reading the forums and reviews on-line, I just ordered the SGP Neo Hybrid EX Series (Satin Silver) from Amazon. It looks like a good case that provides some protection but keeps the slim feel of the phone, the battery cover remains exposed for ease of access and it comes with a decent screen protector from what I've read. I know I'll have to modify the top of the case in order to create a hole for the noise-canceling mic since the case was made for the international version. Hopefully the hot nail/needle trick works.
I'm using the casemate with the plastic shell and rubber insert. I wish the plastic shell also covered the top and bottom, but it doesn't. This leaves the rubber insert to bend freely and sometimes rub against clothing and such. Just a minor inconvenience.

I have the same case which is the case mate pop case. So far its been the best that I have tried. I've had it since I got my phone in October and the only thing I don't like is how it is starting to stretch a bit near the volume rocker and power button areas. It has the right amount of protection and isn't too big.

I have the D30 protective case and the D30 powercase, though it's not often I use the powercase, pretty comfortable with the protective case, buttons were stiff at first but with so much use of the buttons they're normal now.
Had a Balastic case and worked great till it snapped around the volume rocker. Gonna gorilla glue it and should be fine. Only downfall is.....it is huge! Phone is already a decent size and the Ballastic case makes it even bulkier. Still worked great and was uber protected.
Also have a cheap TPU argyle case, but fits like poo, so don't use it much.
Liking the el cheapo case/Holster I got off Amazon. Rocking that for now. Can't even think of the name, but actually looks nice and protects it.....just not like my Ballastic.
Trident cases are nice too, but IMO to expensive! Can't find them under 30 smacks... I refuse to pay more than 20. I am cheap, yep I am!

I don't recommend the matte finish. Use gloss or semi-gloss. It holds dirt and its hard to come off. Also might want to prep the surface if you really want it to hold. Mine is peeling off..

Basic TPU cases, right? That is my choice as well.
i don't think the raindrop cases are tpu, it seems to be some kind of flexible plastic that is much thinner and lighter than tpu. tpu case will offer more protection than this case. my choice is also the tpu case... the raindrop case only offers enough to protect the back but it is very light. it would need a bit of extra care using this vs. tpu or other well protected cases. it does look great on the white amaze though, i also enjoying telling people that want to see the phone that i just accidentally dropped it into the toilet.

I suppose it would have helped if he provided an URL so we could see exactly what the case was...
Hi everyone! Just recently got this behemoth of a phone, and it is just too beautiful to go naked bc if I dropped it, it's over. So that saying, my mom has a Galaxy note 2 and she has a case-mate POP case from AT&T on clearance for like $5, and it's a solid case. I want a case similar to this case, where if the phone landed on it's face, it won't be damaged a lot since there's enough lip on the case. This won't really be a major factor since I will be putting a tempered glass protector on it. The major thing I'm trying to find is a case where it won't eat a lot of lint if you do fit it in your pocket, and won't slip off at the corners if you do drop it! I have seen cases that is made out of just TPU claiming tight fit, but as soon as it lands, the phone goes one way and the case goes the other, and also the battery....
I have seen the spigen slim armor, and it looks solid compare to the neo-hybrid. All the other cases are too bulky, like the lovemei, or the ballistic series. Please list your suggestion, and real life photos of the case, including the lip clearance on the screen if you can so I can make my decisions Thanks a lot once again!:good::fingers-crossed:
Slim Armor is a good option if you don't want too much bulk. This case fits very snugly and won't come off unless you pill it off. It provides only modest drop protection though. If you want really good protection an Otterbox commuter or similar such as trident aegis would be better. Those cases make the phone significantly larger though.

I just got the spigen neo hybrid and it's a really nice slim case. I love the styling. Seems like it should be adequate protection for normal use. I just got it today though so not going to comment on the long term.

I've been using my note 3 naked till I got a rock joyful case. It increased the width but not the thickness of the overall feel and it's harder to remove the s-pen but it give me a safer feeling when using it without worrying if drop compared to naked!

Even I have that case it's pretty good but I don't like that plastic rim feels cheap, now using UAG navigator probably the best case for our device imo

thank you all for your answer! The urban armor looks decent but still pretty thick. The otterbox series I don't like since that's over bulking, the spigen slim armor is possibly the best case imo but I don't know how good it is until one of the guy here said it's pretty tight fit

I have one of these cases..probably the best things ever. Had one for my S4 previously, and it took so much damage! My phone is a big thicker now, but it's protected without being otterbox thick
I have both a UAG and otterbox commuter. Used to use those cheap tpu case and I thought it was fine until I dropped any bent my speaker grill.
Ever since then, I'm addicted to UAG. Beware of fakes though. I feel the otterbox a bit too heavy to use.
