full wipe - HTC Amaze 4G

i previously owned the mt4g and have flashed roms almost everyday, with never having a problem. i recently purchased an amaze and have problems flashing aosp beastmod 1.3.1. every review that i read says fast no prblerms etc... when i flash it i get very laggy performance. i do wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache partition, advanced wipe dalvic, then install zip from sdcard. is that a full wipe? i did that with the myt4g and never had issues. please help. im on clockworkmod recovery 5.0.2.6. any help would be appreciated.

Full wipe would be what you're doing.
Factory data reset/cache/dalvik
After you flash the ROM let the phone sit for 5 minutes and before doing anything else...reboot the phone.
Let it settle again. Report back with results.
Hope this helps.

downloading again now will try and let you know .thanks for the info

do you use beastmod ? and how had it been running for you?

I'm not using any ROMs yet. My Amaze is still sitting in its box.
I'm just going off my experience with flashing ROMs on the MT4G.
New one every few days. Just some general tips and tricks I learned from flashing ROMs.
It may or may not help with your situation. I know often it did for me.
If it's a technical issue perhaps posting in the BeastMOD thread would better assist you.

Yea, always let a new flash sit for 5-10 minutes. When you change framework, everything needs time to 'settle'.

You also might want to try the Revolution HD Super Wipe for the Amaze, you can find the link in Mikes ROM post. It's simple and I've used it bouncing between the two, I prefer BeastMod and have had no problems, it's much faster than stock and has been very stable. Like the previous post said, it needs some time to settle in and I usually throw in a reboot or 2 and you're good to go.

[Q] Update to a new version of a ROM, should I wipe?

I am currently running KaosFroyo v30 and just recently downloaded v31. Should I wipe my phone before installing the latest version of this ROM?
*Note: it does call for a wipe when installing v17 it reads " **THIS IS A WIPE INSTALL** " does that apply to all ROMs post v17?
Edit: I know I should be asking Kaos himself, but I thought I would ask the community first.
If he doesn't say to wipe in between you don't have to... I personally always wipe the dalvik cache before and after I install a new update even if it's not required.
Well, I did what you advised and everything seems to be working out well. Of course I only just recently updated, so tomorrow and Friday will be test days. One thing i have noticed though us that MMS is till not working....
Like Hungry Man said, you don't HAVE to wipe unless the dev says so, but things always seem to be a lot cleaner when you do wipe.
I always recommend wiping.
Sent from my Eris using XDA App
I always wipe disk and Dalvik.
Only takes a second.
And with Titanium and what not, you don't even have to do anything.
They're making things too easy for us, lol.
You could flash with out wipe then if you have issues beyond known bugs, wipe and reflash.
Sent from my FroyoEris using XDA App
If you dont have many programs or apps installed then do a wipe but for me it is a pain in the ass setting it all back up again. So, if it is just an update, then I dont wipe. Sometiimes it leaves scratchy ass, sometimes not
I have always wiped updating to a new ROM, mainly because I didn't know any better. The next update I might update after V31 I might just try a flash and see what happens because I'm impatient when reloading everything LOL.
If it is a new completely different ROM then yes I would wipe.
Installing a new ROM, updating or new, is like talking a shyt. You should probably wipe.

+1 internets. I LOL'd.
most importantly like mom alwayz said , wipe good
Wiping will get rid of all the clingy bits, which isn't always necessary, but I recommend it.

I ended up not wiping (no pun intended) no problems so far. I like some of the little tweaks, but I don't think the track ball lighting is not working

Factory reset with custom rom?

Maybe a stupid question, searched the forums and couldnt really find a solid answer. Just flashed the team whiskey Bionix Fusion 1.1 on my Samsung Vibrant, with great success. Everything is working fine except my battery life is not that great. It seems i am having the same issue i had before with the radio constantly searching/ transferring data. I fixed it by doing a factory reset and my battery life improved ten fold (and it was. My question is, Can i do a factory reset with a custom rom with no ill effects? Some have said it will end up in a constant boot loop. Others say it will be fine. I want a solid answer, before i try it. I am new to the whole rooting, custom rom thing. and really dont want to go through the whole odin thing, as i am not familiar with it yet.
Thanks IN advance for your help!!
I know when I did a factory reset on a custom rom I had to do it through cw recovery. I tried to do it twice through settings (just to see if it was a fluke or not) and was in a fc loop both times. So I think cw recovery is safe for a reset but doing it through settings is not. Maybe it was just my phone though
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
How do I do it through cw recovery? Open cwrecove and have it boot into recovery, then once in recovery do the factory reset. Our is there a different way..sorry for the stupid question just want to make sure I'm doing it right.
Yea there should be an option for a reset there

Let me know how it goes.
Just curious about the results.
Although I've never did it for the Vibrant, its generally not a good idea (it completely bricked my last phone because I messed with the kernel and didn't understand what I was doing when I did a factory reset.) Just flash back to stock with ODIN instead.

Nowhere in the instructions does it say wipe the battery stats.
i was having the battery issue before with stock everything, and wiped the battery stats with no luck. The only thing that worked was the factory reset
Did the factory reset through CW recovery, everything works well! Making sure everything works, and so far so good.

Ah, sorry. It was in the Install instructions for the regular Bionix (although it applies for Fusion too, I'll try and get Viral to change that). XDA Bionix link.
edit: Just got confirmation that it's always good to wipe the battery stats whenever you flash a new ROM.

Thanks, Ill definitley keep that in mind next i flash a rom.
Apparently the factory reset didnt work. It seemed as though it is back to doing the same thing as before (seems to constantly transferring data battery)
Battery life is horrible ( dropped 25% with in an hour) and the back of the phone is very warm to the touch.
will the Flashable JI2 Modem fix this issue? if not can i just reflash fusion or should i odin back to stock and then back to fusion.
One thing i did read after i flashed this rom was to pull sim and sd card before flashing (which i didnt do) Could this be the reason for the radio issues?
Thanks again for all of your help!
I bricked mine.
I downloaded a custom rom onto my Galaxy S GT-I9000, but I really didn't know what I was doing, so I did a factory reset via settings, I wanted to go back.
BUT:
It got bricked, it got stuck on the samsung galaxy s screen forever.
One explanation would be, that when installing a custom rom, it tells you to format all partitions on the device. So I guess that the backup of the stock rom, were gone, so it didn't have anything to restore to.

[Q] {Q}Vegan Ginger to Cyanogen?

I have had the HTC Evo since launch day and have flashed it probably 50 times. I am not really a "Noob" when it comes to flashing! My question is on the G-tab, is there anything special that I need to do to flash between these 2 roms. Is it as simple as wiping all data and cache, then flashing the new rom, Gapps, etc...? I have been searching for a while and have not come up with a clear answer to this question.
Thank you in advance for any replies!

That's what I did and it worked without issue.
I copied the last stable CM7.0.3 and the latest GAPPS on to the root of the gTab, rebooted into Clockwork recovery and then wiped data/factory reset, wiped cache, then in advanced wiped dalvik cache (just in case) then flashed the CM7.0.3 then flashed the GAPPS then rebooted.
Done.
Now I have Netflix which is the ONLY reason I jumped ship from VEGAn.
Thank you!! I really appreciate you responding!

One more thing if you didn't already know, only use the .08 version (bekit) of ClockworkMod Recovery. Using any other version of ClockworkMod with the gTab will brick/kill your tablet.

Oh No...

My 2nd topic in about 20 mins!
I've just flashed Siyah Kernal but made a mistake and flashed an older version accidently (I flashed 1.3 instead of 1.7)
Now my phone doesn't boot, it gets to the loading screen where it displays model etc and then stops. I can boot into recovery, I was thinking I can just flash the other kernal but I don't have it on my storage.
I wiped cache then davlik cache and then installed the old version and rebooted and now I'm stuck
I'm thinking just wipe data and reflash ROM but I've never messed around with kernals before so I don't know if it's any different
Help is GREATLY appreciated!
If you have an external SD, transfer the updated 1.7rc1 syiah to that, and flash it from recovery.
Should solve the problem.
If it doesnt, wiping and reflashing the rom, then the corect kernel should work as well.

I would start with that.. if any problems occur, then go to wiping.
I would wipe delvic and cache
Update Syiah myself a few times without a wipe. Although I am sure some would recommend a wipe.
I've just put my external SD into its adapter so that my laptop can read it and I get write protection errors.
Can I just wipe data/factory reset and reflash the ROM to gain access to my phone again and then flash the kernal?

first off is the switch on ur adapter set to lock?
Yes if you factory reset and wipe, then install rom, then you can flash the kernel and enjoy all the benefits!:victory:
aaaaand I'm back!
I noticed the little slidy thing on the adaptger and put it the other way and it worked, having that "lock" is pretty ridiculous if you ask me.
I'm all sorted now, I would be useless if it wasn't for the people on this forum
Thank you all so much for the help, whenever stuff like this happens I overact and instantly assume my device is bricked
Thanks to you all!

[Q] Phone reboots whenever I use any rom not based on stock

Whenever I use ANY rom that isn't based on stock I get random reboots. I'm currently on stock ics and really want to be able to run later versions of android. I can run padawan rom and blackstar perfectly fine without any random reboots but for other roms I somehow get random reboots. Am I flashing roms the wrong way or is something wrong with my phone?
Any help is appreciated!

After flashing new ROM, did you wiped cache+dalvic cache and factory resetted your phone?
If not then do so, it'll be helpful for you.
Also try to clean flash your ROM, after wiping system and data.
PS: Also check the ROM your flashing is stable enough and don't have major bugs.

Order is incorrect. Factory reset, wipe cache and dalvic cache, flash ROM, flash a compatible gapps package, wipe cache and dalvic cache again, reboot system. Let rom fully boot. Only enter your wi-fi and google account info at this time (If asked) .Let settle for at least 10 minutes after boot before playing with your newly installed ROM. Best to use gimmeitorilltell's TWRP version 2.8.0.0 or possibly newer or most recent CWM. Use of incorrect gapps, or fiddling with a roms settings before letting it settle in will result in problems. Follow instructions/tips in the OP of the forum thread dedicated to your your chosen ROM.

Ok, I'll bite again....
Many who have had ongoing, unexplainable things going on with their phone recommend 1)a new or different battery (a fresh battery does wonders) or 2)wiping everything and going back to full stock....whatever shipped with your phone. Like a reset. Start over.
Edit: and lollipop gapps come in 5.0 and 5.1 and like I said earlier make sure you've got the right ones.

Well im not having random reboots now thanks for the help though I hope it stays this way. But I get reboots when changing cup speed and governor or stay in camera app for too long. Probably just the rom itself. Thanks all for the help! I'll tell if anything goes wrong:good:
