I been reading a lot of stuff on carrier Iqwan which was said to captured almost everything you do with your phone especially android.
Which modded rom disabled this and can any developers here can confirm that it is enable and avalaible in androids?
Thanks

Have a look at
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=17612559&postcount=110
theres some info and an app to remove it there
Tried it on my phone and it's not installed
Carrier iq is only on american phones from att/verizone/sprint/tmobile, america simply likes being spied on.

I was wondering if someone could help explain something to me please? I have searched the forum and googled and not find a clear answer so here goes....
I have rooted my phone, I have also debranded it. I was just in the service menu and having a look and my phone displays the following info;
Model, x10i
Country, united kingdom
Build, r2ba026 generic
Brand, customised
If possible I would like someone to explain by what it means by my brand being customised. I know I have debranded it but id would of thought the phone would display no sim lock or unlocked or generic uk or something like that.
I want to know what has been customised, I hope this makes sence.

Customised is refering to UK I believe. Generic means not tied to an operator. Does that make sense?
Sent from my X10i using Tapatalk
That does make sence but generic just means it doesn't have any operater apps pre built into the software so its a 'clean build' if you like and there is a separete section for counties within the service menu so its not that. Every nation will have generic firmwares, this is what the operaters build on top of and fill it with bloat ware which you don't need.
In the service menu where brand is that should say orange, vodafone, o2, 3, etc, I just don't understand what it means by its a 'customised' brand. Its debranded, does that mean its open to be used by sim cards with different networks like unlocking?
If some could please explain the whole customised thing to me id appriciate it, thanks.

In theory all devices that have customised (read: generic) firmware on will be factory unlocked as you would have bought the device not from an operator.
The sim lock is not affected in anyway by the actual firmware installed - so no in answer to your question just by changing firmware it does not unlock the phone so it can be used with any sim card.
I bought an unlocked Streak and the one thing I miss is the ability to connect easily to AT&T WiFi hotspots. AT&T branded phones have apps included to do this. Can those be installed on the unlocked versions of the Streak? Does anyone know which ones you would need?

I went round and round with Dell, AT&T Mobility and AT&T WiFi - everyone blamed the other guy. Finally after about a month of frustrating calls to each of their support groups, I was pretty much told - cannot be done, the correct app is not now and probably will never be available to put on the Streak. AT&T WiFi support did finally agree that if you are at an AT&T hotspot that does not have free access like you would find at a McDonalds for example, call their support number, give them your AT&T mobile number and they will give you a temp password - best they would do.
Thanks for the reply.
I had not called yet and wondered if anyone had tried using the app from the locked phone OR if there was a solution from AT&T. I may call because it is supposed to be included if you are an AT&T subscriber, so you should be able to get a permanent PW, the same as if you had home internet with them.
It was something I did use from time to time.
I had never used the ATT hotspot app since I never left the factory ATT bloatware on any of my phones. With all my Windoze phones I almost never used wifi anyway since it was such a battery hog. On the Streak, it is a different story and I'd be really interested if anyone does come up with an apk or another solution to get that app on the Streak.

Hmm.. i have an Aria sitting right here.. let me see if i can rip the apk off of it.

So the At&t Hotspot app on the Aria is just a hotspot locator. It does nothing but link you to http://attwifi.know-where.com/attwifiw/

I notice from your sig that you have an android backflip. Are you able to get the app off of it? Maybe share with us At&T subscribers?

thanks for trying.
It isn't in the ATT-specific section of the market either. I went through that one-by-one today.

I'm on 2.2 (its in my signature)
On the left hand side of the market page if you are holding it in landscape, down at the bottom, there are three icons. If it is in portrait, they are at the bottom of the green field. From left to right they read "apps" "games" and "at&t". If you click on the at&t one, there is a bunch of AT&T junk that I recognized from my ATT Windoze phones.
FWIW, if my phone isn't on the network, the ATT one changes to, I think, my apps.
The AT&T specific section of the market will show up on phones locked to AT&T. On my unlocked Streak I see My Apps where the AT&T link is on my Flipside.
Regarding the apks from another AT&T phone: how likely is it that the ones from A different model phone will work? and which would you need? Is it just an app or is there more to it?
The only apk that is clearly related to the AT&T hotspots on the Flipside is named AttHotSpotLocator.apk. It is simply an app to search for hotspot locations.
On phones with the built in capability to connect to the AT&T hotspots there is an extra setting to auto-connect to an AT&T wireless hotspot. It seems there is more to this than just an app.

Us Streakers need a super-geek android programmer type to figure this out for us. Unbelievable that with an unlimited data plan from AT&T they make it so hard to log into their hotspots just because we don't own the "right" phone in their opinion.

I don't think Android is supported yet. iPhone, bb and even WinMo is though. Even the ATRIX "4G" (yeah right) only supports att Hotspots via Tethering...which you can do with pretty much ANY att phone.
Anyone familiar with CIQ, and how it relates to our Streaks?

Dell doesn't use it. I searched for signs of its existence in my Streak running 360 and found none.

Hello guys just wanted to know how to debrand the note from bell as it is running a little slugishh and i also want to remove all the bell apps without rooting thanks for the help...
What do you mean Debrand it? It litterally has no branding. You're talking about changing the firmware?
It does have branding likeee all the bell apps and stuff all the extra stuff...

Just the word that you used is odd, because branding literally means to "mark" something, or it means a certain type. So automatically when I read the title I was thinking you wanted to remove a carrier logo branded on the phone which it clearly doesn't have.
Anyhow, I digress.
To remove all that just root, get Titanium backup and remove all pre-loaded apps you don't want. This topic has already been discussed and you shouldn't have trouble finding out how to remove those apps.
Check the development section and you'll find more information there.

Like i said i dont want to root...is there a way to straight flash a official galaxy note update which isnt from a carrier?

There hasnt been any update yet. We are all patiently awaiting ICS. (Which will come from our carriers.) The only way I can see you getting rid of the bell bloatware is to either Root the phone and freeze those apps with TiBu. Or Flash a Rom which still requires rooting. Dude if you want them gone you're gonna need to root. However I could be wrong there may be a flashable Odin files that get rid of all the bloatware. Im not sure. Go look in development. I just don't know how to tell you any other way. Also don't know if you know this but the International Version is not tied to any Carrier, You can look into that if you're not happy with the Bell one. I also forgot to mention, I have one on Rogers and Bell. The Rogers one seems to be slightly faster. But I only have 2 to compare so I dunno. Maybe you can always sitch carrier if your contract is new.

I know you do not want to root my man but I will pay you $30 right now to upload the Bell stock system and then you can go right back to the unrooted version. I am desperate!! No Wi-fi hotspot, no NFC, S Planner, AT&T sucks!!
Yea waiting for ics is unpredictable now...
And like u said rogers note is faster thats why i want to debrand it i used my friends rogers note n there is a good differencee i got this from bell but got it unlocked cause i am with rogers so even if i can Get rogers firmware that would be fine too just need to find a wayy...

Rooting is your only way afaik with Bell and Rogers. My Telus Note came with ZERO Telus bloatware and I mean ZERO unless I missed something. Luckily, in Canada, Telus, Rogers and Bell did not put their name on the Note like how AT&T removed the Samsung name and used AT&T up on top of the phone. Also WIFI Hotspot (tethering) option is there and not removed. I use tethering all the time to tether to my tablet and several of my Sony Vaios. Lastly, NFC is there and is working.
I'm thinking of getting a i717 and I know there are different (but essentially the same) versions, like AT&T, Rogers, Bell, etc.
Does the AT&T version have any special AT&T restrictions? Like not able to install third party apps, not able to tether on other networks, anything?
If AT&T version does have these problems, would they be solved if I flash a custom ROM (an ICS ROM)?
No restriction as far as I know of. But then I rooted my phone and on ICS rom asap after I got the phone. Just flash one of the awesome ICS rom from dev thread and you will be happy with the phone.
It doesn't work well as a boat.
The only restriction that I know about is using the att note on any other network cause the phone is locked to att. As far as third party applications. All you have to do is go to security and make sure unknown sources is checked to install third party apps. As far as the network lock att can issue you a subsidy unlock code and your good to go.

AT&T version will only tether with an AT&T sim card in it using the stock tether app (It will say "Invalid SIM or no mobile data" if you try)
However you can use just about any tethering app on the market to get around this restriction.
Thanks guys.
Stock unit has near field communication (NFC disabled...easily corrected.

canadagsm.ca has it for $535 now, fully unlocked, rooted and flashed with AWS radio. IIRC I paid $40 more + 2nd day shipping.
and yes its branded AT&T on the front, also does NOT come with headphones.
