Came from Rooted 4G now can't root my 3D :( - HTC EVO 3D

So I had my EVO 4G rooted it and had many hours of fun lolol but then I bought a 3D from my friend for $10 yes that's right $10 Brand new so excited I stupidly sold my EVO 4G.
I then came to this side of the site to root my 3D and found out about the HBOOT 1.50 sigh I wish I could root my phone but I don't trust HTC DEV cause if my phone was to have issues I don't want sprint to not fix or replace it.
Has anyone ever went back to sprint with the relocked watermark and got help with your phone?
I miss having a rooted phone this sucks I'm almost tempted to sell this phone and find one with a previous version of Hboot.

For $10 I'd do whatever the hell I wanted to with that bad boy. Root away.

Go ahead and root. They honestly don't care unless its a software problem. Software problems can be fixed by root so you're covered.

I think I might just go ahead and do it... I don't know why i'm scared about running in to issues with the phone my 4G never had anything wrong with it

Bought one, ~$240, rooted it, done... not looking back...
So far there's been no brickage I have not been able to conquer, do not worry about it - just keep a PC86IMG somewhere on the SD card so you can restore to stock and keep the S=ON instructions somewhere.

Whats everyone doing with their old phone?

Just like the title says. I am curious to see what everyone else is doing... I am trying to decide myself.
I was going to keep my Hero as a backup so I can cancel insurance. Well not anymore, trading it at RS for $40 and decided to keep paying insurance. I can't go back to the Hero after having dual core, too painful.
im actually going through radio shack and doing a trade in for 100$ credit applied to my 3d
Wait about 30 days or until I realize I'm keeping the Evo 3D then selling my Evo on Ebay for 200+

Haha true. Didn't think about that. Hope you are not just throwing away the parts afterwards
I'll be keeping my Hero. Might flash it to metro pcs for my son or sell it on eBay or Craigslist. The $30 they would trade it in for is not worth it.
BTW: I'm refraining from getting on XDA on Friday until I get my EVO 3D.
My Evo is going to my wife, her Optimus S will be a back up phone. Insuring, both evo's.
I'm switching back to Sprint from T-Horrible and giving my Vibrant to my sister
Taking my wifes Hero and making it a WiFi Skype line for the house and giving my OG Evo to her....
I'm giving my Samsung Epic4g to my Mother, who has a Samsung Intercept, and taking her Intercept and selling it to the lowest bidder.
I will trade in my old Touch Pro 2 for $43.31 and a radar detector for $35.33 for a total of $78.64.
I will keep my evo 4g and get the evo3d for $120 after trade-ins. When the next phone better than the evo 3d comes out....I will trade in my evo 4g and evo3d for that phone.

Selling the Vibrant and hopefully finding a OG EVO on the cheap for a backup
Gonna keep my O.G. Evo for back up. That and if the bootloader is not cracked within 30 days the 3d is going back

Sold my Evo on Craigs list this weekend for $220. Had 3 people interested the day I posted the ad. I recommend anyone who has a backup phone to go to until the 24th try to sell it first before trading it in.
Back to my Vogue for a week. And to think I used to love this thing.

Phone claim is giving me a 3d instead of a 4g

I am so excited for 100 bucks I basically get to upgrade to this dual core beast! You should see the pictures of my evo it still functions I will take some pics and show everyone how destroyed my PC36100 is

nice, thats how I got my 3D, I was pretty shocked when it said they were shipping me a 3D... I actually got one that was brand new in the box, instead of one that was Refurbished by Asurion like they ususally do... felt good getting to upgrade for only $100 and not having to extend my contract was a plus for sure... you'll love your 3D... ive had mine for almost 4 months. and Its a killer phone.
That's how I upgraded my phones for years. I went from the Mogul to the Touch Pro to the Touch Pro 2. Maybe I'll get an opportunity this year on whatever the next big thing is.
Yeah that's how I got mines too since Sprint wouldn't fix my charging port on my OG Evo, but oh well enjoying my 3D, & mine was brand new also with 1.30 hboot

Whats funny is if you head over to the evo4g forum youll see people NOT happy about this change and the fact its happening b/c the 4G got put on their EOL list so no more of them being made.
thought it was funny people over there were talking about going and getting another one just incase b/c they didn't want a 3D. lol loony
That's how I got my 3d too. I'm happy with it. I missed my og evo for a few days but after using the 3evo for awhile Im glad I got upgraded.
We're comin from a pure power source.
Aw, that sucks. We just made a claim on my wife's 4g on friday and they sent us a 4g. It would make my life substantially easier if I only had to support one type of phone instead of two.
they sent me an eve 4g on my replacement but the bottom led's didn't light up properly so i called and then they said they would send out another replacement and that was the 3d so if u want try to find something stupid to complain about thte replacement and it will give you another whirl at getting a 3d without paying another 100
Yea. Someone stole my White 4G at Albertsons. When I filed the claim I got the message that they had no White 4Gs in stock so they were substituting the Standard 3D. At first all I saw was "Standard" and was disappointed that I wasn't getting another White phone. Then I noticed the "3D" and decided I would suffer through...

[Q] Best Buy Trade In - Do I need to UN-Root?

Best Buy Trade In - Do I need to UN-Root?
Title pretty much says it all. What's your thoughts? Do I need to Un Root my OG Evo before I trade it in at Best Buy?
Thanks for any advice you can offer -
Jack
Yea.... Definitely. Unless you want trouble from the boys in blue.
I asked at best buy when I pre ordered and was told that they were taking phones that were rooted.

Well I dont trust those guys. Give it to them stock.
I'll give you advice in the middle of the road. Wipe the device.... and load a rooted stock rom..... DO NOT have a custom rom on it...... that way its a suttle root.
This pass Friday I traded my EVO 3d to Best Buy, rooted, flashed to boost and S off. The cops still hasn't knocked on my door yet!!!
No need to unroot. I just gave same advice on the Evo 4g forum last week. Dude didn't have any problems. 2 or 3 other people chimed in saying they has no problems returning rooted phone either.
******but it probably is a good idea to flash a stock-ish ROM on it. When I take my Evo into sprint for servicing, though, the techs and some sales people love seeing android 4.0 running on my old Evo.
sent from 2yr old Evo on ICS
I would take above advice and just flash a stock rom ..I've never un rooted my phones ..I traded in og evo rooted np ..have gotten ttwo replacemts for my evo 3d and I even got caught one time during repair process and then me and the Sprint guy talked about roms for a couple mins ..I don't think they really care
I'm just gonna wipe and unroot mine because whoever gets the phone next and wants to root it will have to figure it out for him/herself.

The Blue Man Group?
It's not illegal to root your phones. It does void your warranty, but the most BB could do is say "Sorry, we can't accept rooted phones." They would have no reason to call the cops, and if they DID call the cops and detained you until the cops arrived, you'd have a hell of a lawsuit because you've done nothing wrong and certainly nothing against the law.
But it sounds like BB accepts rooted phones for trade-in anyway.
Edit: It just occurred to me that BB employees wear blue shirts. If that's what you meant, then ignore me.

Don't they flash the stock ROMs anyways? Would make sense since, especially if they try to resell it. That's the only way they know for sure it's back to normal.
I'd still flash to a stock ROM, but I wouldn't think it'd be the end of the world.
Thanks for the advice. I think I'll just unroot and put the stock Rom on it. I planned to do a factory reset or a clean rom install before I hand it in anyway.

I know this doesn't QUITE fit the thread title, but same question goes for the Sprint buyback program - do I need to unroot and S-on my phone?

[Q] Sprint Buyback...do I need to unroot?

Hey guys, quick question. I'm thinking of taking advantage of Sprint's buyback program to give them my 3D so I can get credit toward the S3. How exactly does the program work? they don't keep it right? from what I read, it seems like a recycling program. My main question is, do I need to unroot my phone before getting it back to them?
I'm running meanrom, so its essentially looking like stock right now. only telltale signs of a root are the checkered status bar and the "meanrom" branding on the unlock ring. will they care if I'm rooted?
It depends on the rep at the store. Me personally I would just to not have that as an issue.
They probably wipe and ruu it anyway. You should shop around. They wanted to give me $5 for my last phone when Best Buy gave me $25 (as a gift card, but still).

We went to a 3rd Party "Sprint Store". You know the type, has all the Sprint Logo's and shirts etc, but they are not a Corporate Store.
Anyways, back in early June they took my daughters rooted Evo 4G running MIUI with no issue. Gave us $75 for it, I was shocked.
Last time I checked my phone on Sprint it was like $68.
I traded my og EVO for 150 credit rooted. Just run a stock Rom so when they go to look for stuff its there.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I had went to the sprint store before getting any replies though, so i just went on in with meanrom and the rep took it just fine. got $62 for my 3d also, which was decent
I'd pay 60 bucks for a rooted EVO 3d, is that really a goid deal?

Lucky me then I'm going to sell my 3d to a co worker for $100 this Friday.

asurian insurance

anyone know what asurian insruance (through t-mobile) replace the amaze 4g with since its discontinued. I don't want to pay a $130 deductible and get a crap low end android...If thats the case I rather sign save that money towards another phone...if anyone has done an insurance claim recently please let me know before I got through with this and end up with a crap low end android phone...thanks..
I had one replaced about a month or so ago and not only got an Amaze but a completely brand new factory sealed Amaze.
Edit: about 2 weeks ago my buddy broke the screen on his mT4G and they offered him either the Amaze or the SGSII... he took the Amaze and also got a factory sealed Amaze, was still running GB.

as long as they have the Amaze in stock I don't think they'll offer ya anything else as a replacement, he had just got his mT4G back at the beginning of summer and they didn't have one to replace it with.
