Just like the title says. I am curious to see what everyone else is doing... I am trying to decide myself.
I was going to keep my Hero as a backup so I can cancel insurance. Well not anymore, trading it at RS for $40 and decided to keep paying insurance. I can't go back to the Hero after having dual core, too painful.
im actually going through radio shack and doing a trade in for 100$ credit applied to my 3d
Wait about 30 days or until I realize I'm keeping the Evo 3D then selling my Evo on Ebay for 200+
EVO 4g x 2 trade in at Best Buy @ $138.00 each!!!
have my EVO sold for $250...
person knows i won't sell til friday night though
Samsung moment: Turning it into a dedicated remote and keyboard for my HTPC.
Where's the poll option for "Smash it with a big hammer"?? I've been looking forward to getting rid of my Touch Pro since I first used Android 18 months ago.
selling my hero and keeping my evo.

Haha true. Didn't think about that. Hope you are not just throwing away the parts afterwards
I'll be keeping my Hero. Might flash it to metro pcs for my son or sell it on eBay or Craigslist. The $30 they would trade it in for is not worth it.
BTW: I'm refraining from getting on XDA on Friday until I get my EVO 3D.
My Evo is going to my wife, her Optimus S will be a back up phone. Insuring, both evo's.
I'm switching back to Sprint from T-Horrible and giving my Vibrant to my sister
Taking my wifes Hero and making it a WiFi Skype line for the house and giving my OG Evo to her....
I'm giving my Samsung Epic4g to my Mother, who has a Samsung Intercept, and taking her Intercept and selling it to the lowest bidder.
I will trade in my old Touch Pro 2 for $43.31 and a radar detector for $35.33 for a total of $78.64.
I will keep my evo 4g and get the evo3d for $120 after trade-ins. When the next phone better than the evo 3d comes out....I will trade in my evo 4g and evo3d for that phone.

Selling the Vibrant and hopefully finding a OG EVO on the cheap for a backup
Gonna keep my O.G. Evo for back up. That and if the bootloader is not cracked within 30 days the 3d is going back

Sold my Evo on Craigs list this weekend for $220. Had 3 people interested the day I posted the ad. I recommend anyone who has a backup phone to go to until the 24th try to sell it first before trading it in.
Back to my Vogue for a week. And to think I used to love this thing.
Figures are not definitive but just a observation. I have a friend who is a district manager for a few Sprint stores in the Tri-State area of PA, DE & NJ where I live. Not corporate stores, but those authorized retail stores. A few of his stores reside in some of the more popular shopping malls in the area. Anyway I was at one of the stores yesterday picking up a new battery for my Epic & I asked how the 3D was selling compared to the Evo 4G & he said they weren't selling anywhere close to how the OG Evo did last year. Not even that many people coming in asking for it. He said a couple of the stores still had original stock from release day, where as last year they couldn't keep them in any of the stores. He also said that he has seen more returns for the phone also. Not for the locked bootloader but other reasons. So that magic number of 10%, that people around here keep tossing around as the percentage of people who actually want a unlocked bootloader may be actually higher when you factor in that the phone isn't selling like Sprint/HTC thought. Like I said in the begining, none of this is definitive, just a observation from a friend who is in the know, at least at the 10 or more stores he oversees.

I dont think the bootloader has much if anything to do with it. The reason is simple really.. when the Evo came out last year it was the first and only of its kind. There werent any other 4G phones out with the massive screen. It took the other carriers a while to catch up but now you have Tmobile with its own Sensation, Verizon with its own Thunderbolt, Charge, Iphone and soon to be Bionic. AT&T with its own Infuse, Inspire, Atrix, Captivate, etc. So the Evo doesnt really have anywhere near as much luster now as it did a year ago. Add to that the fact that a ton of people are still locked into contracts and there's your answer.
I knew they didnt expect sales to be big when they allowed employees to get the phone only 3 days after it released so im really not surprised and I dont think they are either.
If anyone actually thought the 3d would sell better then the og EVO is dilusional.
The 3d wasn't as heavily marketed and hyped like the OG EVO also. And yea the EVO was first of its kind.

I totally agree. Back then the Droid and EVO where really the only ones that stood out...now the rest of the others played catch up, and the field is scattered with selection of phones that are nearly identical to the OG EVO. Now we have a huge selection of them AND we still have the OG EVO. Sales are good..nbut not nearly the amount of the original. Also...how many really have the cash to upgrade. If they do not have full upgrade? I mean...contracts are 2 years and many of them still have another year or so to go. I still have mine left with 14. Months to go. I paid cash for. mine and after I sell my OG EVO still cost me money. But I did not use a upgrade..beings I do not have one. My 2 cents worth
The EVO was under produced. That's why everyone was sold out...
tapa tapa tapa
I hate to finally admit it, but my 2 3D's are going back tonight. I love the phone, We are taking them back simply because the data from Sprint in the Buffalo area is unusable - Web pages take minutes to load, cant stream radio, etc ...
All Sprint can tell me locally is 4G towers should be up by the end of the year - but by that point Ill be locked into a contract and if they fail to upgrade, Ill be stuck.
I hate that the return will reflect on the phone due to a return, but its not the phone in our case.

Sprint would have given you an upgrade if you would have asked for one.

Don't forget that alot of evo4g users are in a 2yr contract and probably weren't aware of the option to upgrade to the 3d for a limited time. Also the evo4g may be enough phone for a lot of people as well.

Consider also the fact that those who got the 4G are still on the 2 year contract. Those who actually lurk these boards may have taken advantage of the upgrade reset.

I did....many, many times...at corporate stores..private ones and online. Then I figured...it was not worth to lose it. And the upgrade was just as expensive as to purchase one...400 for the evo 3d..subtract 250 for my old evo...150 dollars. I started with sprint nov of last year. 150 was just right to get me in.

Where are you having trouble with the service? I moved from Buffalo not too long ago and I got great service from Sprint there. I used to live just off Hertel near Military and never had any issues. Really the only places that I didn't get good service were east of the zoo, and out past Amherst.
Anyway, on topic... Of course they didn't sell as well, as everyone else has stated, they just aren't as "wow" as they were last year. Many people also just simply don't have the full upgrade yet, and aren't willing to pay the extra money.
Your friend who is in the know? Lol. Does he go around to the stores? Or does he just tell the managers what to do? Try asking someone who spends a lot of time in the stores...
I have to disagree on some of those points. I never said the bootloader had anything to do with it. I said that the supposed number of 10% of people who want a unlocked bootloader is a lot larger when you figure in that the phone hasn't sold a lot of units. I don't think people being locked into contracts had much to do with it. The Hero and Moment were big sellers and a lot of people upgraded from those phones to the Evo which came out barely a year later. (Hero - Oct. '09/Moment - Nov. '09/Evo 4G - June '10) And if you don't think that HTC/Sprint anticipated this being a big seller you are being foolish. What company doesn't bank on following a successful phone with another one? You think Apple goes into production assuming that the next iPhone isn't gonna sell at least the same amount if not more than the previous version? If that was the case why spend the money to develop and put in a new processor, GPU, screen, 3D camera, more RAM....Why even call it the Evo? You include all of those new features and call it the Evo hoping to bank on the name and success of the OG Evo IMO. I mean I'm no business major but that sounds like good business to me.

Actually he does a lot of travelling. I usually call or text him when I have a problem to see which store he is gonna be in and what time. If he is gonna be out of the area he usually lets the tech/sales person at the store nearest to me to expect my visit.
this is true bc i was conversing, friendly btw, with the girl at the sprint store i went to. long story short, i asked about reservation amounts. She said the Evo tore this phone apart in first day sales, not even close. Anyways to add a funny note, she goes okay im going to update your phone with this OTA. Im like no i dont want it thank you. Shes like why are you going to root it? I was like oh man if only my girl was interested in this stuff lol, na jk. But it was pretty cool to meet someone like that.

I need a friend at a Sprint store. Any Sprint employee's in NC want to be my friend
So he doesn't sell... he does a lot of traveling... spends his time in a care or whatever he uses to travel. He looks at reports and goes around to make sure people are in uniform, the stores are clean and addresses any concerns with employees. I'd say less than 10% even know what a bootloader is... you're wrong, he's wrong, stupid thread that has nothing to do with anything. You just think you're right because you think he's "in the know"... Come on now...
There are more returns on the 3D? False.
4G outsold the 3D in mass numbers? True.
So let's say 30 - Evo 4G's were sold in a month and let's estimate that there is a 1 in 9 return rate... do you're at approximately... 3. So around 10%...
Let's say 10 - Evo 3D's sold in a month... and to be honest, I'm making these numbers up. But I can personally say that I've never seen one returned... So that makes it 0%. Maybe 1 might be returned in the next week and a half... but there's nothing proving that there are more returns...
No one in this thread, including myself has provided any sources for numbers. Everyone is pulling numbers out their asses.
Not a single 3D has been returned at the store I work at. That's a actual number. 0.
How many went out, I can't say. But I can say release day stock was sold out and fulfilled by pre-orders within a hour of store opening.
We've been lucky to keep 1-2 in stock.
Over the last year I have been having many problems with my Evo 3d, I am on my 4th replacement device and even this one is having many problems. Today I went to my local Sprint store and as soon as I walked in they just said "Another one?" I was about to down grade to a different phone the options were , Samsung Galaxy Epic (Original galaxy s) and the original Evo 4g (wimax) but this time the rep told me that for some reason the HTC Evo 4G LTE was now a replacement that they could order for me, I dont know if it will work out in the end but I am hopeful.
Just thought this might be interesting to someone.
I went through the same crap. I LOVE my Evo 3D, but it's not what I use these days. I had to deal with a very rude 3rd party Sprint store that accused me of disassembling it. The mismatched screw is on all of the Evo 3D's I've ever seen. I'm now on Tmobile *not by choice* lol, and on the HTC One S. I have constant radio issues now, still on a quest for the perfect phone
A user on another site got a GS3 as his replacement.
That's what I was hoping for but I'll take what I can get
Sent from my PG86100 using xda app-developers app
Yea, it's nothing to do with the phone itself, it's the company Sprint uses to "refurbish" their phones. When I had the original Evo 4g, I went through SEVEN refurbished phones, ALL of them had some MAJOR flaw, bad screen, bad pixels, vibrate not working, one came literally in two pieces (the screen wasnt glued/screwed down). I believe sprint's policy is if they have given you 3 refurbs, and you still are having problems, they will give you a brand new phone.
Now, do NOT accept a galaxy 1 or an evo 4g, those are downgrades. They HAVE to provide you with an equal or better phone. The 4g LTE or Galaxy s3 are probably the only two phones out now that are completely comparable.
I planned on taking my 3D to Sprint tomorrow because my digitizer is going out again. It also reboots on its own sometimes. 6-8 months ago i had a digitizer problem and they replaced the digitizer. 3-4 Months ago I had the reboot issue and all they did was restore it without even asking me first. Made me so mad!
I don't think I will be fortunate enough to get an SG3 or Evo LTE... But does anyone have any tips on getting it?
Sent from my PG86100 using xda app-developers app
I've been through 8 total I think.... Bad screens, bad power buttons, one was literally about to fall apart. I went through their multiple device exchange and they could only offer me the 4g, epic, conquer, or the shift. I literally laughed at them and said I'll take my chances with another 3d. So here I am with horrible light bleed and a screen that actually makes sound when I press it back into the phone. F#ck sprint if this is how they treat their customers... Been with them for a decade, three lines, and have had tep for the last 5 years. I'm going to straight talk asap.

So my E3D went south on me. In Developer Options I turned on the touch tracer and could see the phantom touches that were opening apps, dialing contacts, whatever shortcut was under the spot when it fired. Crazy.
So I unrooted, loaded the current RUU, and headed to the Sprint repair location by my house.
They looked at it and confirmed the problem. Dude said, "Well, we have replacement parts so we can replace the screen. Or, if you want, we can swap it for the Evo4g LTE." I didn't think I heard him right, so I paraphrased it back to him. Yup. Incredible. Sprint was really getting on my nerves, but they won my heart back with that move.
Just wanted to share my experience - I hope everyone gets similar treatment when the time comes.
That's lucky! I took mine in last month and they replaced the screen. But, I like my 3D and LTE is not online here yet, so maybe it's better that I kept my 3D anyway.
Must be nice.. I've been through like 7 or 8 3ds and their only offer is another crappy refurb or a downgrade.

Same thing happened to me! Except it was a list given to me. The last phone was the EVOLTE and my face lit up!
I'm loving the LTE. I miss the Evo 3D only cuz aside from the digitizer issues it was a good phone to me.
The screen and battery on this is a huge improvement. I can upgrade again in July but will probably wait till end of the year or maybe next year.

My 3d has been having problems keeping a consistent wifi or 3g connection the past few weeks. Sprint has sent me 6 replacements, all have been broken (one bad screen, one wouldnt turn on, one the digitizer didnt work etc). I got tired of having to take each one into the store just to have them verify that it was broken. I told them I wanted a new phone, not a refurbished crap phone. The guy checked his computer, and said they could offer me a Galaxy S2 (yes, a 2) or an evo 4g (the old one, not the LTE). I told him there is no way they are giving me a phone that's over 2 years old. He talked to his manager, and he said the same thing, that's all they could offer me.
I called Customer care to see what they would offer, even threatened to cancel my account. They told me I would have to contact Asurion and pay the deductible to get another replacement (and it would be a refurb). I can't believe Sprint is turning me to them to handle their business, since they can't do their jobs themselves. AND trying to make me PAY to get a warranty replacement.
I actually bought my EVO 3D with a bad screen for $20 and replaced it with a good quality screen for $30. Funny thing is, the EVO 4G LTE went on sale for the price of free (2year contract) 2 days later here. I snagged one for my wife but decided to hang on to the 3D. I'll honestly say the only improvement i care about on the LTE is the battery. It's nice that it's light, and the screen is slightly bigger but i think I'll wait till they put out the next evo or HTC phone that has a quad core or something much better.
And this was for free?? or through asurion, I've got two 3vo's that are broken right now, Mine has digitizer problems and my lady's has a shattered screen. Will asurion replace the broken screen one for the hundred bucks with the 4g lte?
And is there a chance mine will be replaced with a 4g lte for free?

I guarantee you will get a refurb 3d. I just called Asurion today and according to them, they have "tons" of refurbed 3d's.
I took mine into a sprint store for the digitizer and had just dumped a sock rom on it but still had the unlocked bootloader and everything. They replaced the digitizer and even replaced the entire shell. They basically put my board into a new phone. Even joked with me about my boot up screen(android pissing on an apple)

I have tep coverage.... They don't seem to care. And the list of phones they were offering was horrible for me. Evo 4g, Evo shift, epic, and conquer... All if which came out before the 3d, have lower resolution, half the ram, single core processors, and.. oh yeah no 3d obviously but I don't really mind losing 3d if its a capable device. I asked about a gs2 and they wouldn't budge on that even. Been a customer for a decade and have 3 lines of service...

You would think they could.... But no. And seriously..... I haven't gotten what I would call a good quality refurb yet.
Every single one the screen has been loose, jacked up power buttons, cases literally bulging apart... And all they wanna do is send another pos or downgrade me. I used to brag about how great they were and in all honesty I've been telling people to stay away since they started treating me like this.... Their customer service used to be what kept me in lieu of their ****ty coverage and slow network speeds.

By the way of additional information - when I scheduled my appointment online with the Sprint repair center, I included information that my phone was critical for my job (which is true) so, possibly, that played into their decision to upgrade my phone.
Hope this information is useful to someone.
I'll give that a shot... My digitizer started acting up today ironically..... Phantom touches and I have to power cycle it occasionally just to get a response.

Sprint doesn't really care about the rooted phone... When I was a tech for them, I still did the repair and or replacement. I just wanted the customer to be honest with me. Either case its their job they have to repair it. TEP is not effected by root.

Well my digitizer has become much worse over the last couple days so I had to do something :-/
So I called customer service and was told that they'd replace my EVO3d... But it'll be 5-7 days on back order. The rep said she had to offer an EVO but acknowledged that it is not an even trade. They wouldn't give me other options. I have insurance but so I figured this is the cheapest way out for now. They waived the $35 fee, or so they said. Last time I did this with a Moment, they said the same thing about being back ordered and a box arrived early with a shiny Transform... So we'll see. My contract is up in 6 months, almost made it!

So this is what happened. I work for Sprint and my manager hooked me up with an early Christmas gift. I had the EVO 3D and there was a time with Sprint where if you had a 3D and it had a malfunction they would replace it for you for free via the Exchange program for a EVO 4G LTE because there was a shortage of EVO 3D's. So he did that for me and bam I had an EVO 4G LTE. When the update came out I downloaded it excitedly and immediately after the download my phone has been frozen up. It will work temporarily if I do a simpull and then freeze again shortly after. I have done hard resets and cache wipes and I booted into the boatloader and reflashed the stock RUU (The PJIMG whatever it is) and it still does not work so I had my technician exchange it for me again and she offered me an S III instead via the exchange but I told her I still wanted an EVO...
I've been with HTC since the HTC Hero and always loved it. Did I make a bad choice though? Should I have instead gone with the S III? What do yall think?
TL;DR I had some problems with JB and have to have my phone exchanged and my technician offered me an S3 but I told her I want an EVO again did I make a bad decision.
I don't think you made a bad decision. You obviously prefer ht over Samsung. The evo and the s3 Have pretty similar specs. As long as you don't start having issues with the new evo, you made the right decision.
Yeah I just guess now my tech has got me worried that this new phone is gonna be messed up too. But TBH I think that the issue didn't sit so much with the software itself but the fact that the phone was a refurbished device and obviously had issues before.
But I loved my new EVO in the short time I had it. I just see some people here are so adamant about wanting to swap their EVO's for the S3 by any means.
i've been with htc since the touch pro, then OG Evo, now EVO LTE... I really like the EVO LTE, It's fast and handles pretty much anything I throw at it.... the few bugs it has are just really annoying... I'm stock with latest OTA at the moment. The new OTA made LTE connectivity better, but it also introduced a few new bugs... the hardware is great, i'm just not crazy with the stock software...
If I could do it all over again, I probably would have tried the S3 instead of the EVO.... I had no idea the S3 would become as popular as it has...

Sprint never offered the LTE for a malfunctioning 3D. If they did then I wouldn't have had to pay for mine after the 8th 3D stopped working and all they would offer me is an OG Evo or some garbage Samsung. This is one reason Sprint customer service is pure JUNK. The lies, the constant changes in policy, the rudeness, and favoritism. You liked the hero? The worst smartphone ever made? I almost got a flipphone after my experience with the 'hero.' Anyway, I would've went with the S3. Only because I'm sick of HTC and Sense.

I agree about the exchange. Never is a device replaced that way. If they do you are lucky I guess. Evo got replaced with 3d or photon because with that flagship they really didn't have anything on the same level at the time. 3ds and Photons are normally switched for each other and if your lucky they will give the s2 or Galaxy Nexus. What I'm trying to say is no way does a normal customer off the street walk in with a 3d and exchange for a LTE. There are to many lower end devices with its specs to replace it with. You Boss really did bless you for Christmas! The onley other way I can figure is many Sprint has an exchange agreement with HTC.

i've been with htc since the touch pro, then OG Evo, now EVO LTE...

So you're saying you would have gotten the SIII if you knew it would be so popular. what other people buy is what informs your preference? I really hope that's not what you're saying, because that's really sad and misguided, and kind of, well.... I just won't say.

No you didn't make the wrong decision. Stick with the Evo 4G LTE. Remember YOU messed the phone up by whatever method you performed upgrading to JellyBean. Yes it has a few issues but what phone doesn't. My daughter has the SIII and I got to play around with it for a few hours. Im sorry but I still like the Evo better.
PS How did you not know the SIII was gonna be so popular? It was and still is the most widely advertised phone out there. And also you can't go by what is popular, just because it is popular doesn't make it a good phone by all means.

Thanks for the snide comment. I'm sorry I didnt explain my point well enough. When you have two android phones that are almost identical spec-wise (EVO LTE & SIII) ... I'm going to want the one with a larger user base.... because generally speaking more users means more development for the device... since I do plan on rooting my phone eventually. If I am incorrect by stating this, then I apologize.
When I bought the EVO LTE launch day I compared it to the SIII and since they were so close spec-wise, I went with HTC because of my good past experience with HTC phones.

Someone sounds angry. And it wasn't a formal policy. Just something that could be done depending on the situation and if the evo 3d was in stock at the time of your issue. As well as if you were pleasant to the rep or a jerk...

Also the more popular device gets more accessories.
But i still like the Evo a lot.

So no offense to all of you but you're basically all wrong.... YES in November they did have that offer at our store because of an issue with the EVO 3D's and replacing them so they offered something comparable and since they can't go back to the first EVO they sent out an EVO 4G LTE to me. That's how I got my phone and that's how my manager got one as well. So it was a legitimate program. I work for Sprint okay so don't try to big league me here bro I think I know what I'm talking about.
And I have always been stock so my phone wasn't messed up by my own tweaking with it. I simply downloaded the OTA update on the 13th and it killed my phone. I wouldn't say that's my fault. But regardless the replacement is on its way so stop hating.
Stop turning my topic into self-loathing because you're not happy with the choices you made in your life...

Not to gloat - just setting the record straight here. My local repair center exchanged my 3D for a LTE. I know it's not common, but it happens.
Just sayen.
I think you have the better phone. I much prefer the HTC build and the super lcd2 to the amoled screen on the Sammy.

To the people saying that phones are never replaced with greater phones. I had my og evo and towards the eol of the phone they started replacing the phones for free for a 3d. No contract extension or anything. See mah thread here
I've had my Mogul replaced with an HTC Touch & my Touch for a Touch Diamond.
Even way back when, it was possible. My experience each time, was in-store

Well I'm glad I have people here who agree with me and who also had pleasant replacement experiences. But hey I got my new EVO in and it's working great no issues so far I updated to JB at the store to make sure. ALL ACES HERE!!
People say the s3 is better because it has sold more more units. I dont get this because a evo lte is only on sprint, so of course it hasnt sold as many units as a phone on every carrier. Screen, build quality, and sense keeps the evo in my hands.
