So, first let me say the XRON CM7 is amazing and big thanks to leoisright for working so hard to bring us to a beta version. Now I know in the early versions of the CM7 alphas there were some people having SOD problems and even some that could not charge there touchpad and had to send it back for service.
So for all those that are on the fence, because of this, lets lay this out there and use personal experiences to help. Please share:
- how do you charge your unit, USB stock charger or touchstone
- do you charge in WebOS, or while in the Android operating system
- have you ever drained your battery and were able to charge it normally?
Feel free to share any other battery issues or tips to increase battery life, specifically XRON
My own experience is:
-i haven't let the battery drain fully since being on XRON CM7 Rom, and I charge in WebOS, with touchstone charger. Battery life has been awesome with moderate usage.
Thanks to all that share

How do u guys charge ur TP? And in what operating system?

I always charge mine within Android, using the stock charger. A standard charger (like my Droid X) has a lower output (I never though .3 volts would make a difference) and it takes forever to charge.
Haven't ran the battery down yet since using XRON.
I charge in both systems with the stock wall charger.
I get better battery life in webOS. No exact #, but I probably get 1 more hour using it similarly. I've found that I'm using webOS more. Probably about 65/35. If I could only have one os, I'd probably choose webOS, though I've used Android a lot longer.
I'm running OTA 3.0.4, Uberkernal @ 1.5 max and 192 min. In android it's CM7 Xronified, vB1.1, oc to 1.5 max and 384 min.

O yeah makes a huge difference
Does anyone have a touchstone, I'm curious how induction charging reacts in android.
I use a combination of both standard wall charger and touchstone, whichever happens to be nearest at the time. At night it gets put on the touchstone so I start each day with a topped up battery.
I never let the battery get lower then 20% and always run Xron.
I have WiFi on all the time and Bluetooth on when out and about to enable navigation.
10 hours is just about possible from full.
That's more than enough for "allday use".
Great thanks, im trying it on the touchstone now under the android system.
The touchstone is so much more convenient way to charge.

according to engadget experiments, Touchpad has about 8 hrs of battery if you use it continuously..so if we are getting 10 hrs on it then i thinks it good enough...
I use it for around 3-4 hrs daily on android and charge once in 2-3 days....but it always connected to WIFI...

I can see how 8 hrs would be appropriate for non stop use, but, in all honesty my usage is on and off all day. I resently read via kindle reader for 6 hrs at a stretch and had over 30% still showing.
One thing I do believe is that the battery satus monitor (like all devices on android ROMs) is wildly innacurate and definitive values can only ever be established by comparative clinical "lab" tests.
I'm on Xron latest and getting great battery life.

Anyone tried high capacy batteries for our Wizard?
I found one Ebay a 2350mAh battery and would like to know if it really expands the battery life a lot!
link
I have the extended battery for my T-Mobile MDA. Works great, gets about 3 days under continuous usage at work. Never had the normal battery, but with the extended it doesn't seem to have any battery issues I read about before purchasing my device. I got mine on ebay too, they're from some cheapo Japanese manufacturer, but working well so far.
what's the mah that comes standard with our varios?
I bought one of those 2400 mAh batteries and it makes the difference of a couple of days. It's funny, tho...the standard battery sits at 100% forever and then when it starts dropping, it appears to drop relatively quickly. The 2400 mAh battery, on the other hand, appears to drop fairly quickly until it hits 50%. Then it sits there forever before dropping below that. But anyway, the stock battery would last me about three days, the large one lasts about 5.
Thanks for the answers!
I checked but it seems that the extended batteries are also a lot thicker.
And you will get a new backcase because otherwise it wont fit...
I do like a good extended battery but I dont want my phone to be any bigger
An alternative might be one of those battery powered "quick chargers"....I saw a link for one on a .nl site somewhere in this section. Anyway, I believe it uses a AA battery and it appeared to have a wizard compatible plug. You could always keep a couple charged NiCad AA batteries in your pocket and if your phone battery runs low, give it a boost with the charger. Then you get some extra battery life without increasing the size of the phone itself.
i have one from lion battery.....love it.
got pictures of how much bigger the battery sticks out on the mda ? thanks in advance
It will stick out a fair bit:

I find the standard (1250mAh, not the 1000mAh) battery lasts for two full working days plus travel time worth of heavy use. I use it for listening to music for about six hours a day as well as working.
I charge it every two days and find this good. If I only use it as a phone it can go all week with one charge.
I replaced the standard Cellexpert battery with the one from Sino that is also rated at 1250 mAh and it seems to last approximatelly 50% longer than the original one. Maybe it is fresher or the mAh rating is more conservative than that of Cellexpert.
O2 uses the 1.25Ah battery as standard. Don't see the point in the 1Ah battery if the 1.25 is the same size...
Too Big
I bought one. but it's too big for my case. It works at least twice as long as the standard. I use it when camping or boating with a big waterproof case, were the size isn't an issue.
My standard battery works OK. as long as I let it discharge about 80% every couple weeks.
my mda dies (drops below 20%) after ~8-9 hrs of use. granted i'm on it a lot. i still dont understand how they could POSSIBLY rate this phone's standby time of 240 hrs.

cuz they turn the screen to nothing, set every shutoff timer to 1 second, and turn off all radios. try it! max battery life!
I would love more battery, but this thing is a behemoth anyway (for those of us who won't use a holster) and i'm not willing to go any thicker.. bah.. looks like i'll carry a second battery charged in a bag as an emergency go to.
I get about 24hrs of MP3 playback on my Wizard with the 1250mAh battery screen off and volume at 80%. It lasts more than a week on standby with minimal use.
next question. with the oem battery, did u guys charge it for ~ 4 hours on the initial charge, or did u guys charge it over night?
I charged it off the USB port for less than 4 hours and the batterylife is still really good.
This is probably a too long story to ask a simple question lol. I've tried every calibration, tip and trick to get my battery life to where it should be like others are reporting.my battery life has never been great just alright at times. And since gingerbread its been awful. I've even tried not installing any Apps to make sure it wasn't one of them causing drain. I've tried every rom cherry, alien, stock, fruit cake I'm on cm7 now. So I called AT&T and they wouldn't replace my battery because the phone wasn't upgraded on my line. (got it off craigslist). So I called moto and they said they would replace The battery. But they are out of them for 1-2 weeks. Plus 4-5 days for shipping. That being said I can wait but I'm tired of my phone dying in 4-5 hours from being in my pocket all day on campus while I'm in class, with light usage between . So while I wait for the replacement. I was thinking of buying a battery off amazon. And I was wondering how many people use or have two batteries and how useful is it? Or people that have one healthy battery is that enough in your opinion? Sorry that was so long and drawn out lol

I'm fortunate, I guess. My battery life has always been pretty good. One battery is sufficient as I'm never that far away from the ability to charge it with either a wall charger or car charger. Since I typically can go all day on a single charge, if needed, I'm content with just the one battery.
Just one and I don't feel like needing more than that...
I use my Atrix a lot, and I mean A LOT, but whenever I sit on my desk, I plug it into my trusty Lapdock and work from there, both on the phone and webtop. Very convinient I must say.
Obviously the Atrix charges while docked, so whenever I need to walk out of the office, the Atrix is 100% charged and ready to go.
Cheers!
Rayan

underclocking with setcpu is the only thing that works for me. that and use the alien theme. for now, it will give you exceptional battery life when using a screen off underclock profile compared to others.. my phone actually holds it's battery while sitting around.. by which I mean, while sitting idle with the screen off I lose about 1% every 2 hours. ;-)
this also assumes you disable all networking when idle. green power automates this task. if you for example, leave an app like Netflix on pause and let your phone go idle, your battery will suffer. best to close all tasks before standby
I have not had any problems with the stock battery. The first week was really bad, and it only lasted maybe 6-8 hours. After that first week, it got waaaaaay better. I can get easily 2 days of moderate use on 1 charge. It seems like it's getting better as time goes by.
I have two batteries, but i rarely need the second battery but i just switch the batteries around so i get a good lifetime out of both of them. With light usage i easily make it through the day but my phone goes on charge most nights so i rarely test it more than that.
I bought a backup off of amazon. rarely use it, either on weekends when I am doing a lot of running around and can't charge it through the day, or at the end of the day if something comes out that i want to flash but don't want it to die.
Alright, I've read countless "photon battery issue" threads and none really have a good answer but this is just ridiculous:

I went to bed with the thing charged to 100%, wake up 8hrs later, not having used it once and its at 50%... okay, whatever, I guess it was about 8 hours...
So I charge it to 80% then go work-out for about maybe 2 hours and when I'm done the SOB is at 40%- I DIDN'T TOUCH IT THE WHOLE TIME! I DON'T THINK IT EVEN CHARGES THAT FAST! I don't care if it was searching for signal the whole time, which it shouldn't have, WTF?!
Other anecdotal stories: I'm fanatical about battery life and always charge it full before going out for the night or something and I'm usually lucky to make it to bar close, a total time span of MAYBE 5 hours. How is this even possible?! The damn thing is supposed to have a 10 hour talk time?! Even if I was on the phone the whole time (which not even close, just txting and using it when you're awkwardly alone while your friend goes to the bathroom)- WTF!?
I'm extremely vigilant about charging and monitoring battery life and despite my best efforts I get burned constantly. I even have this thing on airplane mode at work (in a basement) cause it will be dead by the end of my shift.
Any one use a rom that gives a noticeable increase in battery life? Doesn't seem like many of them are mature enough. Juice defender doesn't seem to help much... do I have any decent options? I may start carrying around a second battery but seriously, that's a bit silly.
/venting.
you have a bad battery, just call up Motorola and see if your still under warranty, if so, have them send you one, that's what i did and i've noticed a substantial increase in battery life
Hey man, did you calibrate your battery when flashing roms? Battery will die faster when dont calibrate. Currently which rom are you on. also check some programs that might run in the background. Right now, im getting about 17 hours, but i am over clocked and under volting this bad boy. I posted my battery life prior to running jokers ROM. Check it out.

I think I have some issues with my battery as well. It discharges fast! I usually have it full all the time but the times where I have left it discharge cause I'm lazy I wonder how everyone post pics with 13+ hrs when I feel like my won't get even 10. Btw, my battery has been in water for a brief moment idk if that affects it somehow?
Sent from my MB855 using XDA App
In my experience, bad battery life is usually related to some apps or settings wrecking havoc in the background. Unless you happen to have a phone with LTE and a smaller battery of course.
I always get an average of 30 to 40 hours on one charge with moderate use on my Photon, stock rooted...
For me, live wallpapers demolished my battery life. Also, I completely formatted sd internal before flashing joker skinny.
No rom here, just rooted- lime green theme. I didnt calibrate but for a theme i shouldn't need to? Ill look into getting a battery from moto, no reason i shouldn't be covered.... Aside from rooting that is. Also wouldnt phantom app drain show in the pics posted?

It does charge slowly if you keep the screen on and use its multimedia functions, as I suspect the drain is substantial, but if simply on standby, mine charges reasonably quickly.

Ya, mine no longer charges from PC USB when PC is sleeping. When PC is awake the charging is way too slow. My old HD2 could charge fine from PC and this saves me from having to plug in its dedicated charger to power socket.
Hmm, im reading that most of you get a full charge, from 0%, in just about 1 hour. Mine is taking 2 hours, why is that? I've had the phone for a week.

I believe you can pull from 100 to 400 mA from the USB port on a computer.
And the wall charger should put out at least double that. So ofcourse a charge will be slower when you can't pump as much juice into the battery as you can with a dedicated wall charger.
You can on some mainboards let the USB ports stay alive while the rest of the system is a sleep. But sure it's only logical that when you put your computer to sleep, so will the USB ports.
HD2 is able to get charged through USB when PC is asleep, but not XS. For those who're interested.

I've had the phone for 2 days now. I consider myself a moderate user - especially during work. Today I had bluetooth and location services off, streamed for a bit, surfed the internet, and did a heavy dose of texting and downloading apps all through 4G (no wifi @ work). The battery lasted me roughly 14 hour due to the usage of it only in spurts. For reference I got into work at 8 and left at 5:30 with 45% battery life left. I then used it only a little the rest of the evening.
However, yesterday was Thanksgiving so I was on it most of the day, and it needed to be juiced up around 9 hours with all the bells and whistles on (phone wasn't on auto bright, etc).
If you are a light - moderate user and do a little application maintenance I can see this phone easily lasting 16-20 hours. When the phone is off it SIPS the battery.
If you lean towards the heavy side then it will need a charge closer to 7-8 hours. I come from a Thunderbolt for reference and this obliterates it. To sum it all up, the battery is better than I thought it would be. The key is to kill services you don't use. We will have to see how it fares when I am in NYC for work with no access to a charger. I'm sure if I use it sporadically I could be fine for an entire day.
Hope this helps.
I hope these screenshots help!
~5 hours on airplane mode.
~6hrs on LTE
Rest is wifi.
Not a super heavy user, but so far i am impressed.
Under 30%, the battery drops so fast! Dont count on 30% to give you anything useful...An afternoon of light texting will probably kill it.
My battery only charges to 99% -- has anyone else seen this? Will my phone keep trying to charge it, and therefore wear out the battery?
Will a QI pad just constantly charge, instead of stopping once its 100%?

Guys you need to be honest with yourselves here, anyone can do everything possible to get the most out of their battery (heck I got 3 days out of a Droid 1 before), but in real world use you'll be lucky to make it through the day if you use your phone a lot. If you're a light/moderate user you will be fine from morning until night, but if you tend to use your phone for hours expect to charge it during the day.

I am being very honest with myself. So far, I am getting more battery life than a Galaxy Nexus with extended battery. I hit an easy 3.5 hour screen time yesterday.
Playing games.
Watching netflix
Streaming Pandora to BT for 2 hours.
Streaming Google Play music for 2 hours (headphones)
Playing with settings
Making calls
Texting
MMS
Browsing Internet
Youtube
Half of my time was on LTE and the rest on WiFi. I took it off the charger at 7:30am and it got down to 12% before I put it on the charger at 10:30PM.
My Gnex with the same use would have been completely dead by 3:00pm and only if completely on WiFi.
My usage hasn't become less since I used DNA...if anything it increased due to me setting it up and playing with it. So I really, really doubt I am kidding myself.
I came from the GNex as well. First day I had this device I had to go and work my 16 hour shift(3pm-7am). I always had my GNex plugged in by 7pm after my normal use of browsing, texting, games and such. I made it until around 10pm before I plugged it in, and that was just because it was at 40% and I wanted to top it off before my 2nd shift. Went back to 100% and used it until about 430am when I stopped playing around and read a book on my Kindle. Used my phone as an alarm for every 30 minutes and I didn't plug it back in until I got into my car for the drive home. I've never been happier with a stock device.
I just got this phone. I have a GS3 as a reference for battery life. If I can get three hours of screen time out of it, I will be a very happy camper. I guess it just goes to show you that when everything is working together in harmony and everything is power efficient, the size of the battery isn't nearly as important. Look at the iPhone, no matter how much you want to hate on it, they have been stick sub 1500 mah batteries in there forever, and they seem to last all day for the most part. I would have preferred to have a larger battery, but after reading the reviews this morning on it I was convinced to go out and pick one up. The screen is awesome, I'm really surprised that it doesn't drain more battery than it does.
I just made it to lunchtime without it going dead.
Dropped to 40% with some download ads, a few YouTube videos l, some Facebook and some music via blue tooth.
I had to plug it in a few hrs later when it dropped to 20%.
About as good as my Rezound with a 2800 mAh battery.
Pretty much nothing will last me all day with the data I use.
