A dock/cradle with spare battery compartment.

Charges flawlessly in my phone. It does discharge quickly at first but it lasts alot longer than the stock.

My experience mirrors sauls.
I have the double pack with the external charger but always charge in phone.
Takes about 3 full cycles to get full performance and the first 10 - 15 % seem to drain much quicker but in long run way outlast the stock battery for me.

lol its my first extended battery, our school locks the internet so im the one that teathers it for everone and my phone is all ways dead i need a spare

This one says 3.7v and the stock battery is 3.8v....wonder if that will cause some issues. I think ill wait till they make one with the same volts.

It doesnt cause any issue except for maybe the fact that it seems to discharge quickly initially. The anker batteries was labeled to have a limit voltage of 4.2V which it reaches when its fully charged. It's possible that a 3.8V extended battery might give a better life but the 3.7V doesn't seem to have issues and they hold their charge pretty well.

[Q] Charging optimus one

Hi guys i just bought optimus one yesterday and then i charged it for the first time 4 hours until battery empty. My question is how long should i charge it after i charged it for 4 hours. i am correct the sale lady said 4 hours
what should i do next to extend my battery life plss give me some tips in charging thanks
LG recommends you do a full charge / full discharge cycle when you start using the phone. So if you fully charged the battery (and I think 4 hours was enough to accomplish that) now all you have to do is wait for the battery to empty and then fully charge it again. You don't have to keep it plugged in for 4 hours if the battery charges faster. When it's full, you can unplug it.
Then, the best practice for this battery is to charge it whenever possible, even if you still have enough to go throughout the day. Keeping the battery over 30-40% at all times gives you longer battery life, but once in a month you should perform again a full discharge / full charge cycle to re-caliber the battery power meter.
Please read this for a better understanding of how Li-Ion batteries work and should be taken care of.
thanks master but last night i decided to charged it at 1% then i slept and my phone was charging for almost 6 hours. it this ok? i only do full/discharge one time?
BTW it this normal that in status it said not charging instead of discharging?

Yes, it is OK, and yes - only one time. To be sure, read the phone's manual. It says there how to proceed - please ignore the sales lady. Then you may do it only once in a while, to keep the power meter accurate.
Regarding the full charging/discharging cycle: Li-Ion batteries don't need that. There's no "memory effect" plaguing them, as was the case of NiMH or NiCd batteries who lost capacity if charged less than 100% or before complete depletion. Or, simply put: charge this battery as often as you want, for as much or as less as you want.
Furthermore: Li-Ion batteries have a limited charge/discharge cycles count. Around 500, I think. If you charge the battery more often, before dropping below 30%, the charge doesn't count as a full charge. This gives you a longer lifespan for the battery before replacing it (but not a longer time before the next charge).

Yes, that is also normal. Mine says "Not charging" in status too.

First time charging
Hey,
I've just got my LG Optimus One delivered, I'm charging it and at the start I could see it was charging but after about 2 and a half hours it's been now, I can't. So do I just wait until it's fully charged and the icon will come up itself or do I press the unlock/power button to see how much it's charged or any signal it's charging?
Just asking because I don't want to turn it on when I'm not supposed to and mess the intial first time charge up.
Thanks.
is there any apps that actually drains batt then do a full charge?
I use battery doctor but sometimes it is hard to do a full charge because to do a full charge battery has to be less than 20%
but at the end of the day (before going to bed)
my battery still at 30% ...
lol nothing happens if u dnt hav full discharge. Its jst a recommendation for good battery life, jst buy a new battery if ur not satisfied with ur battery life rather than breaking ur head before putting it for charging...
charging rate
After some search I was unable to find an answer to the question:
What is the charging rate (in mAh) of LG P500 default adapter?
If I buy a replacement of original micro USB charger, what can I use?
500 mAh, 1000 mAh, some other?
Is there a difference for the battery?
Input= 0.2A
Output=0.7A

Best first charge method for my replacement SGS2?

Getting my replacement today and my current phone has suffered from bad battery, so what is the best way to charge the new one please?
Thanks
I charge mine overnight most nights, and it gets better over time. It took a couple of weeks before I started to get really good life out of it.
Based on what I've read, you should charge for at least 3hrs and then drain it completely.
But I'm pretty sure you can still use it right out of the box
I don't think any extra/time specific charging is needed for Lithium batteries for the first charge. Just unplug it when charging completes. But if you calibrate the battery make sure you fully drain it before recharging it.
Regards.
It doesn't matter, there is no need to bother about how to charge modern li-io batteries.
I don't think modern batteries need any kind of special first charge routine....................but I still do it anyway

Just read about this earlier on my local samsung officially site and yes ever since it is lithium battery its ok to charge anytime afor how long even it already 100% and still on the charging mode ots automatically cut off the power supply inside. But i do still charge like 4-6hours for the 1st time
sent from my 2.3.3|dxjpe DJGTabs7
Just charge it to full, and then start using it, charging it overnight does nothing, the BMS will stop it from charging when the voltage coming from the battery is considered 100%.
Lithium batteries do not suffer memory effect like Nickel batteries.
The old charging practices cause more damage.
Lithium batteries should not be overcharged (Same as NiMh)
Lithium batteries prefer to be fully charged. If they stay on empty too long, they get damaged. Using the charge up before charging the battery can damage it, the optimal is to charge it before it gets low. Regardless how well you keep them, they have a predetermined life span, so they will stop working after a few years.
Thanks everyone I am going to charge it for about 6 hours, then calibrate then fully discharge and fully charge, Until o2 unlock it :'(

Completely pointless....once it reaches 100% it stops charging.
Someone pointed out the same thing you all said i.e.modern li-ion batteries don't have a memory, they don't need to be formatted, however extreme conditions aren't healthy for them e.g. leave it completely depleted or completely charged for prolonged periods of time (days?).
i just charge mine to full the 1st time i get it while it is off and i am fitting screen protector etc
i then use it till its about 10% and charge to full
i then use it as normal and top up charge whenever
it may not be needed but batterys have always been good for me and its a little routine i seem to be stuck in lol
hope your new phone is decent and you enjoy

[Q] Initial Charge

Hey guys!
I'm getting my SGS3 in 2days!
Can the people who have bought the phone please tell me for how long to put the phone through the initial charge? Is there any specific way/cycle to do it? Please let me know!
Thanks in advance!
Sorry if this has been posted before! I searched but didn't find any!

You should do a google search. Anyway, there are many different opinions out there. From what I understand, the initial charge is less important than it used to be; current batteries do not have 'memory' effects. I still fully charge batteries first, but you could start using your device immediately, that shouldn't have any impact on battery life. As long as you never fully drain your battery! It's best to start charging again around 10%. But correct me if I'm wrong
All times are with the supplied wall charger:
Charging out of the box (came 50% charged) = about 2 hours
Charging from 0 to 100% = 5.5 hours

I did totally wrong then.
I always waited to be with 0 battery and then I charged.
Good to know, I'll start to charge now when it's 10%. Do you turn off to charge or not really necessary?

Is it true that Li-on Battery should not be allowed to drain out completely?
0 TO 100% =5.5 HOURS???!!! isn't that too long??!!
Full charge takes about 2hrs 20mins and yeah it does have about 50% charge out the box, and what I always do with new phones is switch off and charge about 4hrs and give it another full charge when it's no lower than quarter full for the first 5 charges and it's around full capacity by then.

I don't think it matters if you turn off your phone or not, charging will just take slightly longer.
Guys please be carefull with what you post maybe do some research (not listed to anyone in particular). The Galaxy S3 uses a Lithium-ion battery. I have found a little atricle for you to read, Here is one simple quote:
Lithium-ion is a low maintenance battery, an advantage that most other chemistries cannot claim. There is no memory and no scheduled cycling is required to prolong the battery's life.

Also you won't drain your battery till 0%(0V) because the phone will shut down and maintain a safe voltage. (Unless you keep reboot it after it has shut itself down)
0% indicator of your phone is not the actual 0V of the battery (Just to be clear)

I understand that Li-ion batteries don't have memory effect and don't need to be conditioned. The one question I have is about the so-called "calibration". I read somewhere that draining the battery until the phone shuts itself off and then fully charge it makes the battery measurement more accurate. Is that true or myth? Thanks!

100% agreed.
Never heard of a 1950 battery for sgs2, best bet go with the 2000 mah one, there is a whole thread about it.
Thanks guys, I imagined the same thing. I will be checking out the 2000mah and the 3500mah. My phone battery used to give me more than 20 hours now it hardly lasts 4 hours.

i think that, what you need is to sync your battery, plug in and let it charge till 100%, after that, leave it charging 30 min. more, now, still conected to the power source, go to recovery mode, and swype the battery stats, and after it turn on, un-plug it, and now do 2 full charge cycles, that means, let the battery drain out 100% and let it charge till 100% without interrumption(power off the phone, and then plug it to the "wall"), do it 2 times, and now you'll notice a better battery performance:good:

Thanks, I will try to do what you said. Since I sometimes charge the battery with a battery charger and not with the phone.
Edit- I did what you said and I noticed that the battery does in fact holds a longer charge. I bought this battery on ebay and I am waiting to receive it. http://www.ebay.com/itm/270992164008?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649
I have bought from that seller before, it seems a very good price for it.

Fortunately, I know what you're referring to, which is a post by a Google engineer that wiping battery stats has no affect on battery life.

[Q] Charging the battery all the way to 100% is bad?

...
Perform shallow discharges.
Instead of discharging to 0% all the time, lithium-ion batteries do best when you discharge them for a little bit, then charge them for a little bit. The table below, from Battery University, shows that discharges to 50% are better for your battery's long-term life than, say, small discharges to 90% or large discharges to 0% (since the 50% discharges provide the best number of cycles-to-usage ratio).
Don't leave it fully charged.
Similarly, lithium-ion batteries don't need to be charged all the way to 100%. In fact, they'd prefer not to be—so the 40%-80% rule you heard is a good guideline. If you do charge it to 100%, don't leave it plugged in. This is something most of us do, but it's another thing that will degrade your battery's health.
Fully discharge it once a month.
This may seem contradictory, but hear us out. While lithium-ion batteries shouldn't be discharged regularly, most modern batteries are what's known as "smart batteries". This feature can get miscalibrated after a lot of shallow discharges. So, manufacturers recommend fully discharging your battery once a month to make sure this stays accurate.

Is this true?
you can be as neurotic as you like over this, but it really d doesn't make a lot of difference, just enjoy your phone.

The only big no no is to constantly discharge to below 5% and recharge . That according to the experts leads to a much shorter battery life .
Yes leaving on charge is a waste .
Wiping Battery stats does not improve battery life .
But all this is an old story posted time and again and bring nothing new .

there is a built in feature that stops charging once battery level reaches 100%. so there will be no harm to your battery. I have doing the same since gs1
My old Nokia 3510 needed a battery replacement after 4-5 years since it only held 3 days worth of charge instead of the usual 7-8.
I constantly let it discharge from 100% (overnight charging) to empty, the replacement battery cost me 5 bucks.
My Galaxy S1's battery has, after 2 years, no observable loss in capacity with overnight charging to 100% and dropping to 10-15% over 1-2 days.
A replacement battery would cost roughly 15 bucks.
I could go on the same about my Laptop, Netbook, Tablet and other devices with rechargeable Li-Ion batteries.
The point is; don't try to forcefully extend your battery life, enjoy your phone. Most people replace the phone every 1-2 years and the batteries are designed to live that long with high usage and deep-discharging. If yours should not or you plan to keep the phone longer, a replacement battery is cheap.

All Lithium batteries have it (and need it) since there is a risk of damage, fire or even explosion when it is overcharged. That's why not the phone but the battery itself has the corresponding controller. Since the controller cannot measure the exact capacity of the battery (only an estimate), it is recomended to deep-discharge and fully charge (charge-cycle) the battery once in a while to reset the controller's counter.
Battery replacement is cheap and easy as abc. That's the benefit of having removable battery. Just enjoy your phone.
