Will rooting enable the ability to use a 3G network? Or is wifi still the only option?

Out of curiosity, for anyone that upgraded via kies mini to the "official KA6", did they remove the Mobile Access Points/Wifi Tether?

newbie Q: Wifi calling still use the plan minutes but without extra fees?
Hmm. I wonder if that now means TMo has a way of knowing you are doing wifi tether and start charging. I used it a while back only when I absolutely had to. Never got a text or pop up like some had reported. Thanks for checking.
Edit: nvm didn't read properly

They know if you make a call over wifi. The call routes through a seperate server to reach tmobile. Once there it gets routed normally.

I assume either they dont care anymore since they throttle at 10gb, or they may have inserted a preamble into the mobile ap so when its activated, itll let them know. But they wont just start charging for that. It would either need to be a feature that could be added, or if they did want to do it pay as you go, it would require a contract change and for that they need to give affected customers a month to leave without etf. They're already losing enough customers as it is.

Hi, i was just wondering if its possible to turn off the 3G on the HD2. I had an iPhone and a Desire where it was possible so was just wondering if its possible on this?
Many thanks, GS
Sure is: go to Comm Manager>Settings>Phone>(slide to tab)Band>Select Network Type. (choose GSM)
You may have 3G toggle in Comm Manager but dependant on your ROM (can be added)
Also these phone settings can be reached from Phone dailer>Menu>Options
And you may have a phone settings link also in windows Menu>settings>Personal>Phone
These instructions are assuming you are WM6.5-6.5.x ...
Ahh ideal. Thanks for the response.
Is there a way you can completely turn off the data connection? I dont want a permanant connection via 3G or GSM. I just wanna turn it off like you can on most phones. Is this possible?
Thanks, Darryn

Hello,
Has anyone gotten Wifi Tether for Root working on T-Mobile USA? What's the proper setting?
I've tried the native hotspot to no avail....doesn't work with T-Mobile USA.
Much appreciated.
I was able to connect without a problem. Be sure to choose..none on Security.
I would also really like to know the answer to this question. So are you saying you can't get any mobile hotspot app to work, like the native Xperia one won't work on T-mobile? I've pre-ordered an unlocked C6806 that I planned on using on T-Mobile's network. I'm already slightly bummed that I won't have the Tmobile wifi calling. I really hope there is a way to use mobile hotspot on my new C6806.
Hi, thank you for responding for quickly.
Can you further elaborate on all the Wifi Tether setting? Which "Device Profile" "Setup Method" etc...are you using?

The provider doesn't matter here. Just modify settings as desired (better to put a password if you don't want other people to use it too) and run it. If it doesn't turn on as you want, you can for the first time need to reboot your phone and activate it again. Work very well,

Systen settings/More networks/Tethering and portable hotspot/Mobile hotspot - switch on
This will work unless you are using the device on a carrier other than the branded carrier.
My AT&T branded phone will not give me mobile hotspot on T-mobile service.
That is until we get a custom ROM on this thing
Hey guys, are there any apps that activate the hotspot without being rooted?
Thanks!

Wifi tether router in the app store... 2.50
Didn't this fellow ask about this being unrooted? Long story short, not without rooting and unrooting at the least and then you have to deal with changing the network name each time. Best choice is to stay rooted And use Wi-Fi tether router.
