Recently I bought my Galaxy S II, I do satisfy with my phone but there's only one issue. when I talk someone others couldn't here me clearly. I have to talk loudly. I think there's issue in the mic. please help me, what can i do for this????

We may need a little more inforamation ,,Have you flashed custom rom,ie know bugs etc..Have you updated software at all was it fine before, are you sure its a hardware problem...

Have you tried turning noise reduction off during the call?

There are already plenty of threads here about this problem and possible fixes. For me the microphone rubber housing was blocking the mic hole so I removed it and made the hole bigger as well. No more problems for me.

I tried this today but instead of completely removing the top and bottom mic rubber cover, I just cut the front of them off instead.
I also drilled the mic holes out to 1mm.
Now it's clearer but the person I'm calling hears an echo.
However, the echo can be removed with the noise reduction function.
So I'm back to pushing noise reduction every call, I can't win
EDIT: Don't touch the top mic next to the ear speaker as I have now introduced an echo into the equation by opening up the hole and cutting the front off the rubber mic cover.

Hi all, I have read all the replies for my query. Thank you all. First I have to tell you this, last sunday I did flash with custom rom to 2.3.6 since i didn't get any update from kies or OTA. So I did flash with custom rom. But Before I did the flash, there's issue in mic. but how can i change the noice cancellation?

There was the post about the perfect phone apk in the themes and apps section which was basically the phone from turkbey rom. That one has no noise cancellation.

Mic and understanding on the phone..

I'm having a problem talking to people on my razr. They alsways complain about barely understanding me although I'm talking slow and clear, not screaming of course but normal talking.
So I took a look at the razr: the mic hole is not in the middle of the phone and I usually hold the phone with left hand to left ear and then the mic is more far away from the mouth than the other way round. Can this really be a problem? Doeas anyone else (favorable in europe or even switzerland) regonize such a problem?
I also hold my Razr in the left hand to the left ear and it`s no problem. Seems that something is wrong with your mic.

I Agree... mic problem most likely
To be safe, you might want to check and make sure that your noise canceling microphone ports (the little hole in the back bottom right and the little slit top center near the flash) aren't being obstructed, either by a case or your hand.
The distance of the mic from your mouth is not a problem. If you've ever put your ear to someone's cheek while they were talking you'd find it to be pretty loud
I have the same problem, however not always, seems to me that rebooting the phone helps, have you tried that? (I am in Sweden)

Like marsonist said, the distance between MIC and mouth doesn't matter (well, not when the phone is on your face... obviously if you talk at 100 meters of distance, well... hehm..) but anyway other than checking if the noise cancellation MIC is obstructed, check that the MIC isn't being obstructed by YOUR FACE when using it.
If it isn't being obstructed by your face and there isn't any visual problem, try a factory reset. If the problem persists, this is an hardware problem: I haven't got any problem with it and the person on the other part that is listening to my voice says that it is crystal clear and exactly perfect.
Obviously, if it turns to be an hardware problem you have the right to use your warranty.

Very very slight rattling noise from camera?

I often notice the tiny things other people don't notice but I'm wondering if anyone else can hear a very small rattle noise come from the back of their phone when they shake it up and down.
You have to put the back of the phone very close to your ear to hear it, I'm just curious as to where the noise is coming from? Is it the camera?
Cheera
Other posters have in the past posted noise /rattle from the camera .

Ah, from what I've read it seems to be the auto focus. It really isn't an issue as I can only hear it when the phone is VERY close to my ear. For some people it seems to be much more noticeable though when they tap the top part of the phone and when I do that I only hear it very slightly and when I shake it.
Cheers

[Q] Call issues, people can't hear me good

People have been telling me they can't really hear me good when i'm talking and i sounds a little fuzzy/far away. Anyone have this issue? where is the mic on the phone? maybe i am blocking it when holding it? Using aT&t
Reviews I've read and people I've talked to on my Note all say the call quality is great. The main mic is the little hole on the bottom edge between the pen and the usb port. There is a noise-cancelling mic on the top edge.

Try turning off noise suppression under settings>call>additional settings. You can also do this while on a call. Hit the menu button. Mine was the same. I turned it off and everyone says I sound so clear.

Same issue here. It's like I'm getting muted for a second when talking.
Just throwing this out there, and it might not apply at all, but are you sure your fingers aren't covering up the mic when you're on a call? The Note II that I have has a mic vent right near where I normally place my finger and I was muting myself a lot when I first got the device.
My pinky finger was the culprit.
No mic issue here, but you may want to talk it back to T-Mobile and ask for a replacement

Mine too. I'm left handed. I wish they put the mic in the middle.

Not the case, i'll call t-mo this evening.I was wondering if they will be able to replace it at a store ?
I just got off the phone with someone and whenever I put my phone between my shoulder and my cheek to talk they couldn't hear me or complained that it sounded like I was far or maybe looking at my phone. However, when I put the phone back up right as it should be it was fine.
This is weird...
No mic problems here. My gf & I confirmed with my HTC One and her One S.

Same here, mine just doesn't work fine in any position, i called t-mo and the rep told me they can't replace it yet as they don't have the "send a replacement" option on the system, i'll go to a store tomorrow to try some luck if not i'll wait a few days and call again.
I've just had complaints while laying down... hold the phone in the exact same position hand-to-head, but laying down I am told I sound far away, standing I sound normal. I made sure not to cover either mic. I never had any such problems with any phone before.
So are any of you covering the hole in the BACK of the phone?? This is a wonderful noise monitoring sensor that will increase or decrease Mic and call volume depending on what it hears. This is mist likely the case for when it is against your shoulder and cheek. I'd check to make sure you're not covering it up.

No, I was not covering the one on the back.
So i called t-mo and spoke to several reps and they all told me that they don't have the form to send a replacement for this phone yet, i also went to 2 t-mo stores and no luck.I called htc directly and they can't replace the form they can only issue repair tickets which can take 2-3 weeks so no thx, so i just went ahead and unlocked the device and tried several roms and kernels from the international device and no luck, it seems to mic lowers itself when you move the device or something.. so frustrating.

maybe a case would help?
A case may help to lift fingers and other hand parts away from the microphone, as a long-term solution for non-hardware-related problems.
I noticed muffled call quality as well and think it might be a defect. I noticed an issue also when I tried testing out the video quality and recorded a song playing from my stereo system. After recording it, I noticed almost all of the sound was on the left channel, and the right channel was almost non-existent. I uploaded the video to my computer to hear it and noticed the same issue - the left earphone was loud and clear, the right was very quiet.
EDIT: It's definitely an issue with the bottom microphone. When I cover the back speaker, the video's sound is almost gone. When I cover the bottom speaker (right channel), there isn't much of a difference at all.
Have any of you tried making a video recording with audio and also noticed this issue?

Cant hear me? In Call Mic (Solution)

Recently, my Nokia 920 has had problems with the in call microphone, tellme, and other apps that use any type of voice. Many friends and family would be saying "I can't hear you speak louder", "you still there", "your breaking up", and my favorite "you sound like your underwater". I searched over the internet and noticed this is a prevalent problem that tends to emerge after months to a year of use. Many found one solution in that the Nokia 920 has a mic that picks up your voice at the bottom of the phone and a noise cancellation second mic on the top of the phone located next to the headphone jack;five pin size holes in a circle. What I did was use a duster can (meant for electronics) and thoroughly cleaned all mics on the phone; since, I had just gone to the beach and sand and dust was plugging the mic holes. With the ambient noise mic with a finger over it confirms that the mic needs to be free and clear of debris to function correctly otherwise it will cancel out all sound by not being able to differentiate voice from ambient noise. I did not see a post about this so here it is...feel free to comment. Hope this helps out the community.
Update- I read about newer Lumia models having a bigger noise cancellation hole so I took it upon myself to make the five pin size holes a little bigger with a thumb tack. I did not push on the mic part inside of the phone...only to make the holes a 1mm wider. I have not experience anyone saying they cannot hear me anymore. I figure this to be a permanent fix. So far, I have been using my phone for 2 months with this hardware fix with no problems. I thought I would update everyone in case cleaning the mic didn't work.
Update 2- I have been a part of the developer preview program since the beginning it was created. When I first updated to the developer preview my secondary mic completely stopped working. I soft reset, hard rest, downgraded to previous stable firmware hard reset & soft reset; nothing worked and seemed to be persistent across all software versions. So, I ended up replacing the secondary mic and head jack and it totally resolved my issues. I analyzed the old and new secondary mic head jack and realized there was clear circuitry differences. I assume that Nokia had failing hardware originally in our earlier phones for many of the earlier Nokia 920 and later updated the secondary mics to an improved version.
I have been speaking via the speaker for months now because of this, thank you for the solution.

Thanks very much. You saved me and my Lumia 920!
Pictures
Can anyone post some pictures of where the microphones are and what you have done to make it better? I just got mine returned from service and they replaced the microphone but I on my very first call the person on the other end of the line had trouble hearing me...
Thanks for this. In the last couple of weeks people said I sounded like I was talking under a blanket or through a towel. Started digging around and found this then looked up a video on how to open the 920. I used a sewing needle to open up the mic holes and it fixed the problem completely.

"secondary mic and head jack"
Hello! Your post is so helpful, but i dont really understand that "replacing the secondary mic and head jack" It means that replace the bottom mic and the upper mic or replace the upper mic for a new mic.
Thanks a lot for you answer!
I had a problem with my speaking mic (I had the ability to use Cortana and record voices) so I cleaned the mic and others can hear me while talking but I cant use my mic in apps and Cortana I had soft&hard reset but the problem exists.
Please give me suggestion .
Thanks a lot.
Alternative solution
Thanks for this solution. An alternative one could be a quick observation of the casing grill, dirt filter and microphone. In my case your solution didn't work but I realized that the dirt filter was misaligned with the casing grill and therefore sound was blocked by this. I used a heating gun to soften the dirt filter and removed it, re-aligned it with the grill casing and ultimately the microphone. This fixed the whole voice muffled on caller's end issue. Hope this helps out someone.
Thankyou McHale it helped
Thanks...
