Hi guys!
It's very difficult not to cup the bottom left side of the phone which ultimately blocks the antenna on my phone and decreases its signal. I was wondering if there is a work around for this problem? Will buying a thick cover case for the phone (like a Trident Cyclops for the Samsung Vibrant) resolve this?
Let me know if anyone is experiencing this and how you guys get around it.
Thanks!
we have a death grip?
everyphone has a death grip.
Stop using your phone as a cup and hold it the way its meant to be.

Not even cupping, just merely having my hand in the bottom left side of the phone
like this decreases my signal 1-2 bars.
I found that putting a couple of layers of cloth in between my hand and the phone decreases the effect. Hopefully the armor will do the trick.
i just tried it, and i HAD to cup it for it to work just normally holding it or while making a call my hand doesn't cup the whole thing and nothing happened...
maybe you have a faulty one?
try to get a replacement? i'm not sure

I don't know, maybe i'm a little bit far from my tower which is the reason why the antenna is a little bit finnicky? I'm not sure. Oh well, if problems persists then I'll just have to hold it differently from now on hehe
DUDE........... I'm left handed and this phone works just fine there is no death grip. It is the First thing I Always check on a phone or other devices being in this right handed world.
It is probably your phone ONLY........ I have 2 Vibrants both work flawlessly

No one is experiencing this. The way you get around it is to stop referring your iPhone as the Samsung Vibrant
I have this issue too, but it doesn't drop calls it just drops my 3G signal which sucks. So if i want to use 3g i have to use it in landscape and don't touch the bottom left.

Thanks! Good to know i'm not the only one with this problem.
I had this problem on the stock 2.1 from samsung. Once i switched to the bionix v 1.2.1 everything is great. I used to have that same complaint
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I think I have this too. Just posted a message that my phone won't stay on HSPDA or 3G as soon as I pick it up.
There are 2 other Vibrants in our household. The other two do not have this problem. They stay on 3G just fine.
Do you think this is a warranty covered defect? It's bothering the heck out of me.
Just an update on this.
I figured I should test this out on the Rogers network as well here in Canada. I tried cupping the lower left side of the phone but amazingly, no drops in signal at all.
So, in conclusion, the signal drops only happen when under the WIND Mobile or Mobilicity (AWS) networks...
same here
I have an unlocked vibrant on att, and suffer from the death grip as well.
Has to be a bad antenna wire Never had a problem with the phone and I am left handed,
this death grip only happens when i'm inside my house. Very weird.
Hi all, newbie here
Just received my shiny new S3 this morning and it's beautiful - haven't had a chance to power it up yet.
Thing is, I'm a complete OCD freak when it comes to my gadgets, and I've noticed that on each of the four corners of my handset (on the bezel) there are small lines that appear to be joinery spots, but I'm not quite sure. At first I thought it was a crack but then realised that there are small lines on each corner, which leads me to believe it is joinery and not cracks. The lines are not that visible but if you focus you can spot them.
Sorry to be so OCD but can anyone else confirm this?
Thank you
Yep, mine has the same. Never noticed before.
You b*****d!!! I have noticed it now!!!

me too, think of it as the design
Probly moulding marks
i noticed em on mine as soon as i got the phone! and i dont have OCD ! LOL.
crappy manufacturing process if you ask me! they could could have moulded it in one piece! should have been made out of metal... the bezel at least!

Saw it right from the moment of unpacking, too... and I don't have OCD neither.
But that barely visible and after a few days with the handset, I'm actually glad it's plastic and not metal... It's softer, warmer, and it will actually absorb shocks better, effectively protecting the screen a tad more. And it's moulded in one piece...Only the mould was not in one piece itself
I noticed mine today which led me here. Thing is i saw a post on the net and the guy had one just below home button and cpw changed the phone for him.
Same lines are on the Galaxy Nexus. I never saw them but my friend dropped his phone and thought he cracked it in those 4 spots. Then he asked me to check mine and sure enough, they were there.
Mine too...............
I have also seen those 4 hair line cracks/joints around all corners on my white S3 this morning. Because I already requested for return and refund from eXpansys-usa.com. so before sending then I want to confirm it, Is it normal?. otherwise they will laugh on me.:silly:
I think the 4 corners are normal, but the other random spots aren't. I ordered mine from Expansys-usa.com too. I don't have the random spots, but do have the 4 corners and they aren't like the one in the picture. They are hard to see unless you look for them. Like it's how the phone is put together.

Cracks in Plastic around edge on my Galaxy S3
I noticed a crack near where I plug the charger into the phone. At first I thought it was a seam where the plastic came together so I didn't worry about it. Now I have noticed that the phone has developed several small cracks around the edge (near the volume rocker and at the top corner.). I have never dropped it and have always taken care of it.
Today I did a quick search and found that this is a problem others have reported so I gave Sprint a call to find out what could be done. They said to bring it into the closest sprint store which is 70 miles away. The only other option they gave was to call Samsung. So I did.
Samsung said they could repair the phone but they needed to take my credit card info and would charge me if it was due to damage and I wouldn't have my phone for over a week! Needless to say I am beyond frustrated. I am a loyal Samsung customer... Have 2 galaxy s2 phones ( for my kids) a Tab2 and just got the Note 10.1. I am even considering upgrading to the note II when it comes out. I am completely concerned about the quality of plastic that they are using in this phone and am reconsidering my loyalty.
Guess I have to take it back to sprint when I am close to their store to get anything done without having to give a credit card or be phone less for a week! What a pain in the arse! Should I un-root my phone before doing this to avoid the inevitable "warranty" - issue?
Are there others that have noticed these cracks and gotten any resolution from Samsung or their carriers?
Mine has a crack

Hi all. This is my first post and would like to thank the many posters and helpful threads I've read while going through my many previous phones.
After hours and hours of trying to figure out why I've been having Wifi issues, I came across a thread on XDA that helped me find a couple of simple fixes. I had to rule out the issue being with my Wifi router since all of my other electronic devices that used Wifi all worked. It had to be the phone. That and the latest software update never fixed the issue.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1688538
First off, a big Thank You to "bigoliver" across the pond who posted the :"Hardware Fault, Wifi Antenna Fault" thread in the HTC One X forum. I'll thank him here since I could not find the "thank you" button on the thread. Sorry, still a newbie.
Anyhow, after reading the thread and follwing the many helpful links in the post, I figure the probelm could be the same seeing how the Sprint version was not that mcuh different other than the Sprint only changes.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b-QrMgSvna4
After performing the "squeeze test" as noted in the One X thread and Youtube video above, I noticed the same issue with the EVO LTE. Seems like the springs for the Wifi and BT antennas were good or enough contact with the antenna on the inside of the back case. This can be done with the Wifi Analyxer app. by simply putting pressure on the screen and back cover between the camera and volume rockers, you would notice the Wifi signal increase or decrease as your remove pressure in that area. This is where the antenna springs make conact with the antenna just inside the back cover.
The few video's I found on Youtube showed a few ways to fix the issue. One was having to solder a few contact to the Wifi and BT antenna springs. This seemed a bit dangerous since the user had to take apart the screen to get access to the spring location and back cover. Seeing how the Sprint version had the simple back cover that allowed access to the antenna springs, I figured I give it a try without soldering.
http://www.techrepublic.com/photos/...=11&tag=siu-container;thumbnail-view-selector
The picture above shows the EVO LTE front facing down with teh back cover off. With the phone facing down, you will see the two antenna springs pointing to the left by the volume rockers and just above the kickstand. If you look at the inside of the back cover, you will see the yellow antennas. If you align the cover as if your were putting the cover back, you will see the two antenna contact points. This is where the Wifi and BT antenna contacts are found.
All that I had to do was pretty simple. I took a tiny flat head screw driver to gently lift the two antenna springs up. Just enough to give a better contact to the antenna with the cover closed.
Once the back cover was back in place, the Wifi analyzer showed the Wifi signal to immediately increase. The Wifi signal was as strong if not stronger that my previous Evo 3D. I even noticed Wifi hot spots around me that I never saw before. This also helped the BT seing how the antennas are located at the same spot.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OsUs2IVEU-c
The other simple fix I found above seemed a bit tacky but worked. The user placed a small coin underneath the phone cover in the area where the the springs contacted the antenna on the back cover. I tried this also and it worked. Just didn't dig the sight of the coin beneath the cover.
Seeing how this helped my Wifi issue, I figured it would help others having the same issues.
After reading the posting rules, I'd looked for a simliar thread before I posted. All other the Evo 4G LTE forum all listed questions but not a fix.
Hope this is helpful to some one.
Thanks.
Interesting fix with the coin method.
We talked about it here briefly, but the results were not consistent:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1710905
I tied this. Saw 4 pairs of contacts. One pair had a contact sitting very low. No way it was making good contact with cover. My WiFi has not been a problem - it was the bluetooth device. Hopefully this will help.

Seems like the architecture is slightly different with the EVO as this hasn't been an issue that I know of. This seems specific to a faulty cell you have but thanks for the write up and details.

regardless if you show it somehow.....take the crap in and swap the thing out!

If you need to put a coin in your cell, you should probably take it back for warranty replacement as that doesn't seem to be the norm, honestly. Just my opinion, either way, glad that worked for the time being.

An alternative solution would be to put a piece of cardboard, just anything to keep it propped up. I advise against making it too thick though, it still needs room to flex.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using Tapatalk 2
Using a coin could potentially be bad. I'd use a piece of paper or cardboard myself. Shorting out a circuit in your phone could cause more issues. I'm saying this because the coin is going to touch more than just antennas simply from its size compared to the phone internals.

Hi all, I found a defect on my Lumia 920's unibody casing. the top bezel is somewhat loose and it squeaks when the phone is cold and clicks when the phone is warm. I find it very annoying because I like to grab the phone from the top and bottom. here's a video of what I'm talking about:

I already replaced my phone at my Rogers store... you might want to check yours and replace if necessary. I feel the clicking will get ALOT worse in the summer when the weather is hot.

funny you mentioned this, i only just noticed the exact same thing about a week ago....
I had a similar issue with the unibody also.
It make noises when I press between the power and camera button.
I took the phone back to the Nokia Care and after more than a week I went there to have him back but it had the same issue. So I give it back one more time and I'm still waiting....

also when did you guys buy your phones? build week?
I'm planning on getting a yellow unibody to switch out my black one.. but first I have to guarantee the yellow shell won't make those noises...
thanks for the replies!
I have a very slight click near the top of the phone (but not constantly) and that's it. I have the white version. I won't bother changing it because until I read this thread I can't say I even noticed it.
I got a black one on launch and its quiet. No creaks, squeaks or clicks.

I have this effect at right side at the middle and at the top. Won't bother with replacements until it will be getting worse/other defects will appear.
To me it is a minor thing. Also no warranty that new one won't start to click after time.
If you put it in a protector like one should with a 600 dollar phone you won't ever even notice this issue. Plus other than an annoyance it has no affect on the phones function.
mine too
I have a black hong kong version. There's a creak/squeak at the middle left (no button) side. which is little disappointing to me when it's the most expensive phone I bought and build quality was very well reviewed.
Mine does this if I press in the middle of the bottom half of the back. Strange thing is it doesn't always do it, seems a fairly random issue.

Hello,
I have the yellow version from November last year and I didn't encountered any problem with my phone; I saw a lot of users that have problems and some strange of them but I haven't.

I have a red Lumia 920 and I am on my 4th unit because each previous phone has had creaking issues on the body. Now, these haven't been the only issues I have suffered but the others are irrelevant to this thread. It does annoy me. I cringe whenever I picked up the previous phones because of the creaking it would make. It makes the phone feel cheap, and quite frankly it shouldn't and thankfully Nokia agree.
I have had my current phone for a day now and so far no problems have developed so I am hoping for the best.
mine was fine until I dropped it twice in the same day (within about 10 minutes of each other) once on concrete, then for some reason decided to drop it again and it bounced off 3 different objects, since then you can hear a 'click' if I press down on the top of the phone in the centre near the front.
bit miffed as I have a scuffed corner now on an otherwise mint phone, have had it for a good few months tho so the novelty of how shiny and nice it looks has almost worn off
I have the white one, a friend of mine has the black one and has no issues with creaking/clicking on the case, but then he has had a silicon case for it since the day he had it, maybe that's helped?
Well, I have had the phone for 5 days and the squeaking/clicking appeared yesterday. I realized that a part of the body feels "hollow" inside so I proceed to disassembly the unit.
When I take out the cover noticed that in fact there was empty space between the case and the board. I put in some supplement (I had to try with several ones until I found the piece that let me close the phone with no extra effort or excessive pressure). Once I get it right, put the parts toghether again and the squeaking/clicking was gone. Also it doesn't feel hollow like before.
I think is a problem with the material expanding and contracting under different temperatures and because it doesn't have a true anchor to the sides (it goes in and out very easy, no extra seals on the sides). Pretty nasty thing for a High-End device.
PS: My carrier (where I bought the phone) said that it was "normal" and refused to replace the unit. Normal my ass!
Aside from that I'm very much inlove with the 920 and WP8.

I hope your supplement is a material that does not generate static electricity. Otherwise your fix may damage the phone beyond repair. Things like paper, cardboard, plastics like bag material that is not treated, cloth, and many others all generate static when in contact with other non conductors like the inside of the phone body. Just a warning from an RMA tech who has seen ESD damage from bad fixes and the customer stuck with a voided warranty.

Yeah, it was non-conductive material. I sort of a tech guy so I know a little about that. I used something that I commonly use as aislant and vibration cancelling in my PC mods. But thanks very much for the warning anyway. :good:
Following the case, after keep ranting about that flaw with my carrier (and phone vendor) I'm with my second unit now, also yellow. I noticed that the power/lock button is lower that the volume and camera buttons but its not a problem (it is lower compared with the firt unit, if this one was my first surely I was going to think that this was the original design).
I've been looking like a paranoid squizo for other defects but so far, so good.
Pretty lame for a high-end phone and a WP8 flagship. Even if its just a batch. Still,, I freaking love the OS.
picked up my phone earlier this afternoon, (preorder 32gb) 1st im told that my wireless hdmi will arrive at a later date, when i open up my box once im home i see that the top speaker grill did not adhere properly. only half of it is sitting right (camera side) but the half with the sensors is floating ever-so slightly. i am in love with the phone but this is really bothering me. i can clearly see the red adhesive and some is even on the side of the phone. after a quick phone call to at&t i was told i can go back to the store i which i pre-ordered and recieve a new phone.
picture with the headphone port shows a normal adhered corner and the other shows the gap on the grill
Has anyone else had a problem like this?

Very similar to mine but not quite as bad as what your pic shows. I decided not do anything because it is purely a cosmetic issue and you have to look really hard on mine to see it plus all my parts are aligned spot on so everything is flush with no over hang. If I had yours I would take it back to the store and demand another 32 GB asap. They should have em. 64 GB will take some time to reach stores so I may decide later to exchange.
You have a one year warranty so you could wait too. Remember iPhone 5 had similar quality issues at launch.
Lol, I'm just waiting for mine to come in. I presume I will get one that has a perfect body, but a dead pixel or two, I will then return it for one with a flawless screen, but screwed up body, and then be forced to live with it.
I went to a store to buy mine and made them open the box before I took it

mine has a very slight gap, similar to yours on the right side, except mine is more uniform. I think it's the fact that it's glued on. personally I'm not worried, but yeah if it bothers you go demand another one. they promised you zero gap construction, if you don't thin theyve met that promise you go back till you get one that does bro.
Guys, anyone has dead pixels on their Ones? Got them on two of mine....any idea how many considered defective by HTCs standards?

I called AT&T and they told me to go to my nearest store and they would replace it, even if it were a minor cosmetic defect it would still worry me. Even the slightest bit of water could go in through a gap like that and damage anything or even worse activate a water strip forcing you to go through Insurance for such a new phone. They were pleasant and accommodating over the phone, I'm glad it was an easy fix.....
Now I'm just sitting here staring at the phone, it makes no sense to do anything software wise to it because I'm going to return it in the morning..... No fun for me today

Not sure about HTC but AT&T will exchange it for you..
Dead pixels is a definite return in my book.
Wow!!I was wondering it's only me or a wide spred issue. Now I know it's not just me. My phone looks perfect at the top but the bottom has imperfections. There is a very slight gap and I can feel the ups and downs when I move my finger around the edges. I think I should go to AT&T sore and see if the replace it.

I had the same issue with mine, and the store manager said he would only exchange it if it had three dead pixals. The phone had about five dead pixals but in two different clusters which made it seem like only two pixals, due to the high dpi. The store manager than called att and asked what he should do because he was only able to see two dead spots/pixals. They probably told him it was up to him and that the defective pixals should be clearly seen with the naked eye. He refused to exchange it because he felt uncomfortable not being able to see more than two dead spots/pixals. I tried a different store with much success. Probably because the store manager was so understanding of the issue.
I went to the store and replaced mine. The first one they showed me has the same issue (uneven flow of construction with the bottom speaker top) and pulled another one which still suffers with similar issue but not that evident. I took the second one and left. It looks like the bottom part of the phone is little complex and very wide spread build issue with these phones.

I've looked at many phones. I have yet to seen one without the small gap. It seems that only some have smaller gaps than others. But make sure your speaker grills are at least align correctly.

Their Display phone was perfect. It looks like they are displaying Apples and selling Oranges.
hey i was finally able to recieve a new phone, i walked into my local at&t and spoke to a rep. i was reffered to the assitant manager who looked at his own phone and refused me a replacement phone. i pressed him and gave my phone to the store manager who only agreed to give me a new unit once she saw the red adhesive showing on my top speaker grill. i went and looked at every display model they had, bottom grill on the phone shows a miniscule gap towards the center of the device. speaker grill on top also shows a gap that is more prominent towards the ir blaster. Not sure if this is normal but i will try to visit other locations even a sprint or t-mobile store and look at the build quality on their versions and take pictures to compare. im not too sure of why something like this should happen, but my 1st guess would be an unlevel surface underneath most likely from the injected plastic... i really hope it isnt, such a beautiful phone. something like this should not have a rushed manufacturing process.
About the gap, I got 3 Ones from Att and they all got tiny gaps, but seem to be glued tight, but I mostly looked at uneven speaker grills and screen, since all had some!
Ps, Double Dip is lovely case, got one with the purchase
Every single One we have sold at my store has has zero gap. I've made it a point to look at each one.

I just got my "baby" yesterday. And with trying to entertain a 1 year old with a slight head cold, plus do all the data transfers from my One X+ to this one, I never thought to actually look the thing over. But I'll be darned, after reading the first few posts just now, I took my case off and yep, there is an ever so slight defect as well. Their not gaps..but a slight "wavelike" unevenness all around. I have very sensitive tactile sensations in my fingers, so i can feel roughness on certain spots. Trying not to let it bother me, but my neuroticism is trying to kick in.

Really, they refused you an exchange? When I had my Optimus G, they exchanged it for me because it got too hot. If you get a new device and it has dead pixels, they should not be able to refuse service. Dead Pixels should not be a standard.

Mine is fine, I don't think this is WIDESPREAD issue.
