First off let me say that I'm on nitsuj17's SC v.5 and love it. However, I've stumbled across a boot ani and associated sound that I want to run with it.
If I wanted to have a boot animation and sound on this ROM and wanted it to last for longer than 8 seconds (stock poweron.wav length) how would I do this since the boot sound is removed from the get go?
I've looked at some how-to's but since the sound isn't looked at (I think) by the ROM, it wouldn't matter if I had a poweron.wav or not. Right?
I've got the boot ani I want (renamed to the sanim.zip and in system/media) and it boots fine, just doesn't finish and doesn't have the sound (my .wav file renamed to poweron.wav and in system/etc).
Finally, I'm using the GeeWiz 2.3 Kernel.
I wonder where I need to start to get this to work. I appreciate any replies.
Thanks.

Originally a tmobile G2 which i rooted because i got bored of waiting for them to release the update to 2.1 straight from htc.
I run launcher pro over the top of sense and all i want to know is, is it possible to have a custom boot animation. I no that it is possible with a custom rom but dont really want to do that am happy with the way it is.
ive tried adb push bootanimation.zip /data/local/
but all that happens is it pushes the files over but the boot animation hasnt changed
So you're still on 1.5?
You need to find the current boot animation on the system partition and replace that. There are usually two locations and these are usually referenced in bootanimation topics.
Girlfriend got a Fascinate yesterday and deemed me worthy enough to root it so she can kill all the bloatware (yay for me!). I've got root on the phone, and I understand that if I don't flash a custom kernel for the phone, it'll just break the recovery (using "cwm-recovery-all.tar") as soon as the phone boots up. She likes the overall touchwiz experience and all that, so I'm not sure of any rom's that are pretty stock cept for bloat, and any kernels I should use so recovery doesn't break.
I'm just concerned about getting recovery to stick so that I can perform a backup in case anything should happen.
I have a OG Droid, so all this bending over backwards for root and recovery is new to me and threads seem either too full of info or not enough for me, so here's me asking for help!
Either way, thanks!

You're just a few steps away.
First download this stock ed01 debloated/debinged stock ROM from link below and place in root directory of SD card:
http://www.multiupload.com/BKHF5DKJ18
also, choose a kernel and place on sd card. I recommend imnuts' PB&J variety-you might want to stick with stock voltage or -50uv for now. Be mindful to get non-voodoo if you aren't planning on getting into this. found here (try the 3rd or 5th option):
https://sites.google.com/a/imnuts.net/android/kernels
Next, use Odin to install your CWM again. When you boot up this time, boot directly into CWM by turning phone off, and holding volume down, volume up, and power (all 3) until CWM appears. flash your rom, and kernel. If you don't boot into cwm directly by this method, the stock kernel will overwrite CWM, which is what was happening to you, i believe.
after rom/kernel is installed, choose reboot system now from cwm.
Yeah, I just wasn't sure about what kernel would be good for her phone, so I just was kinda "stuck" at that point. ^^;;
But I will give it a go and she how it works out! thanks much!
Everything was a success, and there was much rejoicing!
They only thing I noticed was after the Samsung bootloop animation, it goes to the default "android" one instead of Verizon's... I'm sure there's a way to get that back, but its not in the system dump I have. I'm currently searching for it on the net ^^;;
Thanks again!
Edit: I was able to find a boot animation that had the first part of the Galaxy S bit without the Verizon part. When it booted it just repeated the "Galaxy S" animation. I thought by adding, renaming, and reversing the shutdown animation would at least give that back, but now I just get a black screen for that segment...Still working on it....I think it has to do with the txt file inside, but i'm not sure.
The PowerOn.wav is still present on the phone, but it doesn't play either.... >_<
Are you certain you put poweron.wav in /system/etc folder?
Yup, its there and plays fine in the media player, but I just noticed that there's also a PowerOn.snd file right above. Could that be interfering?
Make a backup elsewhere of that file, then delete it and see if that works.

The sound won't work with most kernels that are not stock because the boot sounds aren't actually turned on in the kernel
Swyped from my CM7 fascinate
Oh okay, any chance to get the default boot animation from any of you guys? She doesn't mind the sound "missing," but she would like the boot animation at least.
Eitiher way, thanks much for the info!
since it seems like you're using a stock Rom just debloated and rooted, you may want to think about just using the stock Kernel with the recovery wipe removed, it has two options one that sticks with the stock boot animation and may still have sound and one that allows custom boot animations. This kernel was created by imnuts and can be found here:

Awesome, thanks! I'll give that a try and see how it turns out!
And it worked! Thanks again!
Is there a link to explain how to delete or change the stock start up pink screen on the T959 Vibrant? I hate it.
Root the phone then put download Rom Manager and titanium backup. The download a custom rom and flash that....... you will never see the pink screen again.
You need to read more, alot more.........
WHAT ????
ya ya ya done all that , done all the reading, done a lot of roms, done a lot of rooting ........
your assumption is "all" rom make new boot screens I guess?????
guess not. go load Project_V & see what I'm talking about.
i'm looking for answers, not rebukes.
Never been on Project V and i dont even remember stock but theres 3 startup images usually ~Bootloader, kernel, bootanimation. I doubt its bootloader
If its Bootanimation is located in /system/media/bootanimation.zip just swap for something else or put "debug.sf.nobootanimation=1" in build.prop for no boot animation at all
Or it might be the kernel boot picture, change kernels since i dunno where kernel image is stored, Bullet is good

has anyone successfully done this? i have a rooted fascinate running aokp milestone 4. i have read all the forums and have studied for hours. i finally got the nerve to try it....and....brick. lol i tried using heimdall. installed the drivers properly, opened the program, flashed the hacked param.lfs, program ran, phone booted into a blank screen for about 25 sec then went into recovery. tried wiping and restoring but right back to recovery i went. lol . had to odin to stock and build back up.
was just wondering if someone got this to work and could maybe give me a clue of what i may have done wrong..thanx.
Are you just wanting to replace the boot animation? In the case of AOPK, this would be the Unicorn animation. I do this all the time, directly from the phone. I use ES Explorer, although Root Explorer or an equivalent should work just as well. You'll need to go to /System/Media and delete the pre-exisiting bootanimation.zip. You can then replace this file with your preferred boot animation and be good to go. You can also move the old bootanimation.zip to your SD card before replacing it, allowing for easy recovery if you decide you want it back. You can also place your preferred boot animation in /data/local and supposedly a re-flash won't overwrite the boot animation. I haven't done this, as I prefer to see what animation is included in the ROM, then change it out if I wish. I'm sure there's other ways to accomplish this, but this procedure is quite simple. My preference at the moment is the rockets animation from makelegs' CM7 Kang, but there are lots available for download. Or, you can make your own if you are so inclined. I have a folder on my SD card that has a half-dozen boot animations in it, allowing me to choose which one I'd like to use.
If you need to download ES Explorer, there are a few options you'll need to enable to be able to manipulate the local filesystem. They are "Root Explorer" and "Mount File System" I think it goes without saying, but you'll need to grant ES Explorer with root permissions when prompted.
WARNING: If modifying your file system like this, BE CAREFUL what you delete. Delete the wrong file, and you could be starting over. I am not responsible for you bricking your phone.
I believe bdogg is referring to the boot splash screen. If you are following the directions that I think you are, I have not yet been successful at getting it to work yet either . If you figure it out let me know.

It is quite possible that I misunderstood which screen it was he was wanting to change. On my phone, all I get during the boot sequence is the black & white "Samsung" screen twice (once when the phone first powers on, and then it flashes quickly and reappears for what I assume is the Glitch kernel), and then the AOKP Unicorn boot animation. Once the Unicorn boot animation finishes, I get the unlock screen, at which point I consider the boot process finished. To my knowledge, you can't change the B&W Samsung screen. I could very much be wrong here, I've just never seen anything stating differently. The Glitch "logo" is set in the kernel, although I'm guessing if you edit the right thing in the .zip before you flash it that could be changed. It's not something I care to attempt, it's not on screen long enough for me to really care, and I have no preference to go messing around in the kernel. That leaves the Unicorn boot animation, which I know can be quite easily changed out to whatever different boot animation you prefer.
I'm currently running AOKP Build 28 with Glitch 14 B6.
EDIT: After a quick Google search, it appears I am wrong and that it is possible to edit the default "Samsung" screen. I didn't fully read up on the process, as I don't care to do it myself, but I did glean enough to know that I probably posted instructions here to something that you already knew, and that didn't help you one bit. I'll do better next time.
Yes, we are talking about the initial samsung logo. It is fun to change it to other things i admit. I only was able to do it per the instructions on the gb roms. I thought I saw new ones for ics but can't remember where I saw them.

Hey guys, wanted to share a couple changes I made to my evolte. These both worked for me, running Char 5.0. I take no credit for these. Credit for the boot animation goes to mattmanwrx. Credit for the splash screens goes to Stoney666.
First one is the nexus 7 boot animation, resized for the one x. I figured it was basically the same phone as ours, so I gave it a shot. I recommend backing up your old boot animation (changing the name of it works for me), then once installing (using recovery) the zip should ask what phone you are on.
Before that was part of the zip, I installed the old zip, but still had to rename the animation zip to hTC_boot up_one.zip, it didn't install with the same name so it didn't overwrite the original animation zip. Hopefully you can avoid that minor hiccup with the new zip mattmanwrx created. I'm just not sure if everyone's boot animations are in the same spot, so heads up.
I think he might have a galaxy nexus animation floating around on his site as well. I obviously haven't tried that one of it is there.

Splash screen
Stoney666 is making some pretty nice splash screens. This installed using his instructions flawlessly. He's got quite a few to choose from, plus is willing to make some custom ones as well.
