Did a couple google searches and didn't find the answer to my question. Is the 4g plan really unlimited or is there a cap at 5gb as usual? Thanks.

unlimited for now...they could change it eventually
Well if it's anything like the 3g plan I had on my eris before it's truely unlimited. A lot of rumors where out there that said they would cap you or turn off service after 5gigs and it's total bs to scare you. I use 10+ gigs month after month and I was never capped, threatened or throttled. Granted I was stock using pda.net and it was totally doable.
So go balls to the wall!
it is truely unlimited but if you go crazy they may throttle you
Awesome, good to hear. Thanks for the responses.

I'm not 100% sure if this is accurate or not..but I believe being on an old Alltel plan still, mainline being a business line, I believe, and then my added line...I TRULY am unlimited on 3g and 4g (Bought a THunderbolt to grandfather in) and not Verizon's "Reserve the right to throttle after 5 gigs unlimited" since I don't believe that was mentioned in Alltel contracts.
Also...it's possible I may have unlimitted tethering as well. Tethering isn't mentioned anywhere in the contract...but that's the lookhole. IF you all remember just 4-5 years back, anybody could tether a phone to their computer as a modem for internet without having a plan. It just wasn't a big deal since the data explosion hadn't taken off yet.
I have yet to be able to confirm this and can find very little information regarding it. Anyone in a similar situation or have any knowledge on the issue?

I had no home internet connection for about 4 months so I really didn't have any other choice. And it is really easy to hit that much data and I would hit more if 3g didn't suck so bad for videos streaming and the such. But for online gaming it wasn't to bad if you can stand 200 pings.
I have a question for you guys sorry to thread jack. But I decided i'm switching to Verizon for the HTC Thunderbolt. If I wanted the unlimited data for 29.99 do I have to buy it this month or would I be okay switching over to Verizon next month?

You are safe for getting it next month.
If I get the $10 unlimited media net plan on my SG2, all I have to say is that I'm now using a dumb phone (like a RAZR) and that's it?
Will they not catch on eventually like they did with my iPhone? Or if they can't catch on yet, if the SGS2 gets released in the U.S, will AT&T then have the phone in the database, and be able to switch plans?
I'm worried about losing my $30 unlimited smart phone plan right now. Thanks
I have a Galaxy S I9000M and I've been fine for 8 months.
I would assume the same with Galaxy S II but I don't know for sure. Hopefully you can find someone to verify.
A little research would have gave you your answer but here you go.
Att will never see the unlocked(uk) version of the sgs2 or anyother unlocked(overseas) in there database. Ive been running tmobile and overseas phones for 4 years now. Never had an issue and never will. 99.99% people dont even know what this phone is. You will never see change to your att account with any unlocked phone.
Iphone, some nexus 1s and very small % of dell streaks would give you problems with data. Hit the thanks if it helped you out.

No one can get you a definite answer since no one knows what AT&T will do next for sure. But I've been using non-AT&T phone on their media net plan for yrs without issue. If they add GS II to their database, then I will just sell it and move to the next phone.
With the X10a from Rogers, people were fine on AT&T for months. But then AT&T got their own X10 and bumped everyone to the pricey plans.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
Yep, It can become a crap shoot when AT&T picks up a device. I made it years before they finally nabbed my on the N1, back to medianet now. While they have been claiming for years that they are going to crack down on unlocked phones they have have put very little effort into it and even then only with phones that they themselves picked up and the N1.
For the risk adverse note that they can add any device to their database as the numbers are in the public domain for all devices. This means they can sweep the network for any device. Not saying that they would, only that they could should they choose.
Realistically they have showed almost zero effort to find and adjust billing on unlocked phones and there is little to lose by switching to medianet since if you do end up getting caught all that happens is they automatically move you to smartphone. The only thing that would give me pause was having a grandfathered uncapped smartphone. Go to medianet and that is gone forever and even if it doesnt matter now it could loom large later. I do not believe I would risk losing that myself, not for this handset but because I might really wish I had it later.
I agree. On four of my lines I have non ATT phones with medianet but I have one with unlimited grandfathered and I want to keep it that way (I'm really hoping it carries over to LTE)

I was wondering if you or anyone else has gone over 3gb of data a month on the media net plan? I talked to a buddy that manages 2 different at&t stores and he told me they definitely know I am using a gs2 when I put the sim card in and if I use over 3gb of data they'll say something but they won't say anything if you stay under 3gb. Does this correlate with your experience?

Pretty sure I'm going to go in and upgrade to a Rezound tomorrow and then exchange it for the Inc 4G when it comes out.
That'll be your last upgrade with unlimited data. So torn about stay with vzn from here on out

I actually think I'm going to pick up the GNex tomorrow to try it out. My wife has a Rezound so when the DInc 4G comes out I can compare all 3 and decide which I want.
I'm already on tiered data, so it doesn't matter to me.

It does me. It's the only thing that has kept me on Verizon (well, that and my wife. that's another story though ).
Hey guys,
Glad this came up here. So I am grannyd in on my dinc2 (signed 2yr in July) along with a really good old verizon talk/text plan and with a business discount. So all in all things are peachy for me atm.
So here are the problems: the wife has long been up and needs to ditch her iphone from work. Wtf do I do?!
1. Do I wait this out to see what the family plans look like?
2. Or do I upgrade her now onto a 4g phone and get in before the family plans come out? Hell they might actually be ok if priced decently?!
3. Could I get a used 4g phone add that to my unlimited plan?!
4. Should I add her a data line and get her an off contact phone so we aren't locked in for 2yrs?! Is that possible?!
Jezus this is f'd up. These greedy mofos will go down at some point. And here is praying that Google does it from right under their own feet (their own network)

So, assuming the Inc 4G is released before this change goes into effect...
First Question:
Will upgrading to the Inc 4G guarantee that I'll have the unlimited data for the full 24months, or will put the kibosh on it once the shared plans go "live." It seems like contractually, it would be hard for them to do the latter, but given how Verizon hates it's customers, I wouldn't be surprised if they tried it.
Second question:
I'm on a family plan and we still have a few people with dumbphones. Suppose they upgrade to smartphones and sign up for a shared plans. Will my unlimited plan just coexist and not be part of that share, or will Verizon say "You can't sign up for any new shared plan without obliterating any unlimited data lines on your account." Again, Verizon hates it's customers, so I would not at all be surprised if they try that second option.

Your 1st question I'm interested in the answer as well,:
Your 2nd question, I'm in the same boat and was told I could keep unlimited as long as the plan doesn't change ie same # of texts etc, but dumb phones upgrading would havto, as of now the 4g tiered plan, not sure if after they ditch unlimited if they'll stroke you into the shared plan though . Anyone know exactly when the unlimited plans will ditched?

When the new options are introduced, Unlimited Data will no longer be available to our customers purchasing handsets and signing a new contract. Customers who choose to purchase phones at full retail price and are currently on an unlimited smartphone data plan will be able to keep that plan. The same pricing and policies will apply to all 3G and 4GLTE smartphones.

So, I'm gonna wait at least a little while longer. I now know I don't need to rush out and upgrade today. Sounds like these plans won't start kicking in until "later this year" and they say they'll give plenty of advance notice so I should be able to wait for the DInc 4G to come out but it will be my last true unlimited plan upgrade.

As far as your first question goes, yes upgrading to the Inc 4g before the new plans come out will allow you to keep your unlimited data. And you'all be under contract for another 2yrs with unlimited. Once your contract runs out you'll still be able to keep your unlimited data as long as you pay full retail price for all your phones from that point on. The min you buy a phone at reduced pricing from vzn you'll be forced on to a new teired data plan.
2nd. Question not so sure about but I highly doubt they'll let two different types of data plans coexist on the same plan.

Won't be your last unlimited plan upgrade. Vzn released a follow up statement saying people with unlimited plans will be able to keep them but that they will have to buy their phones at full retail price. Once you upgrade through discounted pricing on a phone, that will be when they'll take your unlimited data away and put you on one of the new plans

yeah, not really looking forward to buying phones at full price
verizon really needs to clarify those already on family plans with shared minutes (like me and my wife)...what happens if she wants to upgrade? does that mean i get forced onto shared data with her?
cuz honestly, i wouldnt mind that much (mostly cuz on her own she wont use over say 2gb once i have my own lte phone) if she could still use her upgrades going forward if i could keep my unlimited data
Ok fom my expuerence if you guys have been with the company for a while just put up a ***** tell them you are leaving. Im with tmobile and i get great offers all the time that are meant to be for new customers only. whoa, I'm tmobile too but I have full unlimited data plan, all the bells and whistles and STILL have to pay FULL price for my devices! Complaining does nothing for me! My HTC SENSATION 4g costed me almost 700.00!! One good thing about tmo is you do have the option to take the device home and pay approximately 20.00 a month for the device. This makes it a bit easier than having to pay all at once.! But their data is NOT cheap! I have two lines unlimited data, one equipment charge (20.00)
My bill for last month was 254.00! That seems outrageous to me! I asked about it and they said I can cancel some services I have to lower it, such as hotspot tethering ect. But I need those services. I've been with them for ,4 years, seems like I should at the very least, get a reduced equipment charge! But I still have to pay full price! Complaints get me no where.!

complaining may or may not get you anywhere with carriers
a lot depends on who you complain too, how often, what the complaint is, and your history of service and complaining with them
many people have gotten ETF's waived, but it usually takes a series of calls over several weeks and months proving there is something wrong with their lines and services
complaining about your contract and what it contains, depends on what you are up in arms about...i really dont see being able to argue your way into an upgrade AND keeping unlimited data once the family data share plans start...regardless of your circumstances/history (but who knows)
a few years back (2008/9) my wife and i were extremely unhappy with our BB8830s and were each around 8-10 months away from an upgrade (me 4 months into my annual my vzw upgrade, she was half way through a 2 year)...i must have called 25-30 times and spoken to half that many different CR's and supervisors, demanding that they move our upgrade dates up to get the BB Storm (lol, ikr) or that when our contracts were up we would leave for ATT to get the iphone because its what we both really wanted
basically everyone i talked to gave me the "ok, have fun with ATT" talk and refused to do anything except move *1* of our upgrades up by a few months....despite my carrying on that we had been customers since the late 90's (well i had been) it all fell flat
other times, however ive been successful in getting replacement devices with no ?s asked...wife actually dropped her first tbolt and it stopped working (but showed no real damage) and we got it replaced for free w/o insurance...and i got my fascinate replaced with the inc2 when the speaker failed (and the fascinate was actually a used device bought off ebay a few weeks after its launch)
so its all situational i suppose
/end rambling

I was a former in store tech for vzw before they laid us all off and i still have good friends that work as sales reps and one told me he heard a rumor about this taking affect at the end of june. Again its just a rumor but we all know its coming. If i hear anything gurther i will post my findings

Alright so I know this question is asked often, but I've only been able to find old answers or answers related to other odd services and other phones.
Is anyone using google voice to avoid using ANY minutes?
I swear I had it working but it could have been my imagination...
I just checked my phone minutes and I'm already over 9 days into the period (on a 200 minute plan) There are a lot of 1 minute calls, which make some sense if it's GV placing the call and then switching to data since I know the numbers listed acording to verizon are GV routing numbers and not real numbers I'm dialing... everytime I answer a call I get a prompt from GV asking to press one to accept a call (could be different now as far as I know since i've stopped listening to the message a long time ago)
So anyone on the rezound have success with this? I'm considering doing a 4g data only plan until my contract is out and then moving to a 45 unlimited prepaid GSM service... I'm tired of paying 100+ a month for a smartphone, and with unlimited data being axed... F U VERIZON YOU FAT COW!!!
yeah.. i do this all the time on my data-only tablets.
you need sipdroid, google-voice, and a magic jack.
I believe they require voice service on phones.
I use all data. Use groove ip It's a really worthwhile buy. Pm me if you need instructions on pure Google voice calling .

Verizon won't let you do a data-only plan on a phone. You HAVE to have a voice plan. I know it sucks. I can literally go a month and use 0 minutes on my phone but I still had to pay $40 for the 450 minute plan.

There is a legacy 200 minute plan... it's not advertised but if you're consistently using no minutes ask them for it
just curious why so many do this. You have to have a voice plan on your phone, you get free mobile to mobile, and on my plan I also can add 10 land lines to it that don't count against me.
Why jump through the hoops when you don't have to?
My main reason to not use google voice/talk for voice and texting is that I have 2 kids on the acct and I want it as simple as possible for them.
I didn't know there was a 200 minute plan, I think the most I've used that counted towards my minutes is about 100... The only thing that counts is calling a landline during the day. Most months I use only 50 minutes or less even though I probably use the phone close to an hour a day on average or more.
I like using google voice for voice nail but everything sounds so bad usually. It is the same way when making calls?

I looked it up online and it looked like a good deal. One ad said $30 dollars another one said $50 with expanded data. I'm so tired of the T-Mobile fan club.
They've renamed "throttling" to "de-prioritizing" but are now applying the same speed caps as everyone else to some percentage of their biggest data users. At 133GB I'd say your days are numbered.

I'm so tired of the T-Mobile fan club.
They've renamed "throttling" to "de-prioritizing" but are now applying the same speed caps as everyone else to some percentage of their biggest data users. At 133GB I'd say your days are numbered.

I agree with you. There's no doubt T-Mobile speeds can be fast. I know a guy who gets 64 mbps down on his T-Mobile One Plus One running Cyanogen. I must be getting a good deal with AT&T tho because nobody has enabled me to save money by switching yet. I could always go to Sprint and get my bill cut in half, but then I'd have to turn in all my phones and switch to CDMA which I don't want to do.

They give me 10 GB of rollover data with unlimited talk and text on 3 lines. All lines share the same data. I just checked and they don't offer the 10 GB plan anymore.
Being on any MVNO sucks if you roam internationally. They all also get de-prioritized over native traffic when the network is congested and in some cities (NYC, SFO) that's quite a bit of the time. Being on T-mobile or any of their MVNO's sucks because they have a lot of high frequency spectrum which makes indoor reception sketchy. T-mobile is a multi-billion dollar public company who's mission is to generate above industry financial returns to their shareholders. They aren't benevolent. So far they've proven they can move market share (they're still #4 BTW) by giving up profit/margin. The jury's still out until the latter starts to increase.
I am thankful to them though. I pay AT&T $70ish a month for three devices and 7GB of data and that includes the $10 a month for the Gear S I just bought from them for $149.
No wireless carrier is anyone's "friend." It's choosing between the best of a bad lot. Talking about pricing, service, and support on XDA is educational. Trying to pimp others toward a specific carrier not so much. Everyone here values different things.

Thanks for confirming this for me as I have metroPCS Unlimited no throttle plan, too bad we can't get this turned on a tablet plan. LoL
I just won this watch for 145 USD I guess now it's time to sell my Original Galaxy Gear rooted with custom TWRP recovery and Null_ 23 rom. LoL!! The curves will go nicely with my Note Edge. haha
Stupid Queston About The Gear S Activation & MetroPCS
@jcar6245 When I get it do I need to activate it to my phone and then take it into metroPCS for activation? I got a Note Edge, but I didn't know if I need to get service turned on imei activation first and then sync it to my phone or vice versa. LoL
That process got the best of my dyslexia, I guess it doesn't really matter which way ya do it right?
Damn I'm on metro pcs with four phones and two have hotspot for just 105.00 I was curious how much it would be to add a smart watch
