Hi,
For the better part of an hour i am trying to switch off my phone, but if I use power off button, it seems to do a reboot. I tried removing the battery and putting it back, but this also only did a reboot.
The only option I have is to keep the battery out.
I haven't upgraded firmware, so any idea what might be causing this and how do I get out of this.
Thanks,
Vishal

Backup data and factory reset .

Hi,
The problem is that the wipe cannot guarantee that it will be fixed. Also, I have a lot of office related stuff on phone and configuring all that again will be both painful and time consuming. So I will take that route if I am not just able to use my phone at all.
Thanks,
Vishal
Reflash your current firmware.. or if poss upgrade to a new one.

Hi all. Had to soft reset my phone this morning after the screen froze and now I am unable to get it to boot passed the windows screen. After about 3 mins it gives me a screen saying something like, "Press Volume Up to hard reset the phone. This will erase all data, blah blah...." Whilst I don't mind having to do a hard reset if necessary, is there any way I could try to salvage some of my data first, particularly texts. It has been some while since I used My Phone to back up the phone sadly.
Well I have got home and put in in the sync cradle and unfortunately it will not open Active Sync. Can anyone see any way I can salvage my data before a hard reset? All ideas welcome.

Have you tried to remove the battery and leave it for a while?
Sometime it helps
If after that you cant boot your phone, there might be something wrong with the OS itself or hardware related problems
Good luck

Hi silverwind, thanks for replying. Sadly yes I have tried taking the battery out and leaving it for well over an hour before trying again.
I am also going to try the 3 mins in the freezer tonight but I am starting to think I have no way of salvaging my sms.
You wont be able to save any of the data unless you can get it to boot into WM.
What were you doing when it froze?
Might be worth checking that you volume button hasnt somehow become stuck in a "pressed" position.... probably not but worth a try I guess...
Thanks for that suggestion, will try when I get home. I had the camera running and the it stopped working properly so I decided to soft reset it and that is when it wouldn't boot back into windows. Hadn't added new software in some time which is what worries me that there may be a hardware fault.
Pretty resigned to losing my data now but c'est la vie
So I read a few posts on bad battery life.... but I really had no complaints, I even took a screen shot or 2 of me making it over 24 hours, they way I use my phone. Very typical for me and my usage....
But then kies kept bugging about a firmware update, so I did it.... and not, I am barely getting over 10 hours out of my phone... having slept most of that!?
This is the second charge now, it seems the life is cut in half... with no increase in usage or any new apps added. Is this possible from a firmware upgrade and can I go back to the old firmware?
thanks in advance.... I did do a quick search, hopefully it is not a repost
Most people with this issue are being told to do a factory reset and see what happens. Im pretty sure it solves the problem.
anyone with firmware XWKE2 done factory reset? And did it help the battery?

weird, but like I always tell women.... I will try anything once
since I am at 100% right now, I will do it and report back. thanks
I assume you just go into privacy and do the factory reset that way?
A multitude of battery posts all say after a flash your battery drains then settles down with use .

A factory reset made no difference for me unfortunately.
12 hours in and I am still at 41%... so it made some at least!
About to attempt a Factory Reset, any advice to prevent brick? I backed up my phone and it has the latest firmware, it updated to 1314 last night. I would rather not have to do this but I am having an issue where my WiFi doesn't want to re-connect when I get home without a reboot and other small Bluetooth issues. I really need to see if the WiFi issue fixes itself after a factory reset because if it doesn't I will get AT&T or Nokia to replace it. It is fully charged and on the wall plug waiting to start. Any advice would be appreciated.

In my experience you've just got to do it, there's not much that can be done to prepare for it. My 920 has never had any issues with a factory reset, many others haven't either. I do have a theory though that American 920's (ATT) are more prone to bricking (mine is Australian) but I've not got much to back it up, just a theory.
Just go for it. Worst case scenario you'll need a replacement, but it should be fine. Good luck!
Well i did it and I got the Gears of Death. I used the recovery guide on WP Central to restore it.

I had that issue before and need Nokia to flash for me
First post so please be kind.
After a short time online the SGS2 crashes and seems to think the battery is dead. A workaround is to keep the phone on charge - so it seems to be a battery related problem.
I have tried calibrating the battery a few times but the problem persists. I also tried a complete wipe and flashed the ROM again. I have searched the forums and also googled it. I found many battery problems but none like mine.
I am on Chamelion v 3.03 and this crashing thing is my only problem
thanks in advance
Replace battery.

thanks for your reply. Since I calibrated the battery it last for much longer than before and the problem only happens when online but if a new battery cures it I will be delighted.
Had a thought. Given batteries cost money, you might want to try doing a completely clean install of stock via Odin before you buy one. Just to rule out there's not something rom side causing your issues. It doesn't sound like that's the case, but before you go spend $30-$40 on a battery, you might as well try it if you have time/are motivated enough.
Edit - The other thing it could be is the USB/charging circuitry, but if I were in your situation I'd try the obvious first.

Hi MistahBungle
Just to let you know I tried a clean install of stock ROM with Odin AND another battery. Seemed to be OK until battery got to around 50% at which point I tried to read a newspaper article on line and it crashed again. When I rebooted the battery was drained.
I have just rooted the phone again and did a restore to my previous ROM
My solution will be to carry a spare battery
Thanks again for your input
Alright then. Description of my problem first I guess. I was not at home and running out of battery on my S2, but play store asked me to update some application so I agreed. After this I got the message that my phones internaly storage was running low, and keep in mind that I had near to no battery life (like 5%) and was not near any sort of charge point. I tried to access the applications page, to delete some apps that I never used and when I did my phone randomly and crazily got stuck and switched off. I'm assuming it somehow drained the 5% battery life I had left.
I got home thinking I could just switch on my phone and delete some applications that I wasn't using...that was 2 days ago...I can't even get past the samsung splash screen. It goes on a horrible boot loop and I've just about tried everything apart from hard resetting and I don't want to do that as I haven't backed my phone up recently...
If anyone knows any other methods, could you please please help? I would really appreciate it if I could keep my files and just enter my phone to delete a couple applications...which I'm assuming is the problem.
What have you tried? What firmware do you have? More info would be nice

yay for quick replies. I have tried cold booting, and soft resetting...I also went into recovery and cleared the cache partition to see if it would help and so far nothing... I have absolutely no idea what firmware I have and I have no idea how to check. I never tried to root my phone or install other roms.
OK so if you have no idea what firmware you was on don't reset Cuz if you was on 4.0.4 kiss good by to your phone. Was it ICS or jb? Do you know this? Pull battery out leave for a bit "5 mins" and try again. If that don't work and your not sure on firmware you need Odin to replace firmware yes data will be lost. Can you get to download mode?
