Farewell my Eris users... - Droid Eris General

Just went out and got my upgrade. thanx to all the devs that made this phone awesome for the time I had it. Going to give it to my wife since she lost her Android phone a while back so I may be popping in and out of here still. Condemned, ill be watching for your Rom for the dinc2 since that's what I decided to upgrade to. Thanx again guys!

I thought when I got my Droid 3 that I would be bidding farewell to this forum. But, I still find myself here, downloading ICS ROMs and continuing to be amazed.

i just updated to the Rezound as my phone, but still plan to keep my Eris around as a Voip house phone / htpc remote / mp3 player. Why stop using a perfectly good Droid Eris??

This! I am hoping to find a barebones rom and app setup to create a remote with.

Thanks!!
I'm piggybacking on this thread to thank all of the devs and co-Eris users for a great run!!! Call me a lemming, but I just activated my new GNex and am loving it so far in case anyone is interested in my purchase (not sure why you would be!)
But honestly, thanks to everyone for making my time with the Eris so great, your time and effort both with creating such amazing ROMs and for helping noobs like me to figure out how to use them to their full potential is appreciated beyond words!

I am right there with you Ozzy. I just got my SGN and it is a huge step up from my little Eris. I loved the Eris, but there is a lot more to love with the Nexus.
The Eris had great Dev support and I know that the Nexus will to.
Thank you for all of the help, support and ROM's over the last couple of years.

Switch from dinc2

I currently have the incredible 2 and am thinking of coming to the dx2. With a little research doesn't look like there's much dev support for here or is that because its so new? Just trying to see if its a good idea and looking for a couple opinions. Thanks!

We're at the beginning of the cycle with this phone so I think that is the reason you don't see much activity yet. An SBF was just procured and some developments are starting to trickle out. I just moved from the original DROID and so far I'm very pleased with this phone. I've rooted with gingerbreak and am running the supercharger script.

Lack of dev support was due to a locked bootloader...we still have a locked bootloader but we do have a way into a custom recovery. It is just a matter of revs hopping on and making roms.
99% of the devs looking into this are prob passing it up until we get gingerbread so they don't have to make their roms twice.
Thanks, just read another thread and realized the questions were asked. Had same issue with dinc2 bootloader being locked but finally was cracked and am rooted now. Phone is great I like it but because of signal issues in my area Verizon is sending me a Droid x2 to try out. Dev support for dinc2 isn't that great either but got the main roms like CM7 and miui with couple others brewing. Just trying to decide if this would be a good switch. Thanks

DROID x2 next moto update?

So anyone heard any word on if our x2's will get ics or 2.3.5?

I am sure now that Google took the reigns the X2 will be on the list(not the top, but on it) to get ICS.

The one thing everyone seems to forget though is how old this phone will be once this actually goes through. It takes a long time for the legal part of corporate acquisitions to go through. Google won't actually be having a say in moto for at least a year, if not longer. It wasn't really to have a hardware company anyways, it was a patent grab for protection. They have also said moto will remain a separate company and act as such, so...

The other part of the equation is the dev community. With active, dedicated developers, many good things can come our way. Most of the best stuff we had on the fascinate wasn't the result of anything specifically released for the vzw fascinate. Alot was adapted by our devs from releases for other galaxy s variants, but we benefited from it because of their efforts. That's why I think we need to treat them as the resource that they are. One of the best devs on the fascinate recently left xda because of all the drama & he wasn't the first. If you want more work to be done on this phone than you gotta do your part to lessen the crap, not make more.

But it also had an unlocked bl and that help'd make a couple dev's come, we have 3 devs and i don't think any of them are happy
I know google aquiring Motorola really wasn't gonna change anything at least for awhile, but I mean moto hasn't been the slowest on updates. Although Verizon may get in the way of any speedy update

You are right there. Samsung is more dev friendly with initial firmware features but from what I've gathered their code's a frustrating nightmare & updates are painfully slow. Plus the nonstandard file structure adds the necessity of conversion for any type of real performance kick. Nothing is perfect, that's for sure. I'm just thankful to have a phone that works like a phone first and a hobby second.
As far as the devs are concerned, nitro & naven did excellent work for the fascinate community & I've been really thankful to see them here, not to minimize any of the other contributors on this forum in any way. All of them do something I don't know how to & I get to benefit from it; that's win-win in my book. So, what can we do as participants & beneficiaries to make these guys want to stick around?

[Q] For Android Creative Syndicate Team

I apologize if this has already been posted or asked.
Are you folks at Android Creative Syndicate Team planning on making ROMs for the Motorola Photon 4g? I loved your work on the Epic 4g and was hoping to see your work on the Photon
Only ACS member w/ a photon im aware of at the moment is shabbypenguin.
Sent from my MB855 using XDA App
this might be better served on the acs forums
but no i am not the only one, tphillips also has a photon as well (which si great because we are good buddies ) tphillips is more familiar with roms (he used to do viper rom back on teh epic) as such i decided to pursue making kernels. hes been busy on teh galaxy tab but i keep bugging him
:O i forgot qbking77 (sorry buddy )
Just to clear a few things up yes I have joined the ACS Team and I look forward to releasing a ROM for the Photon 4G and the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1. I'm working on both of them at the same time. I'm switching my focus to the Photon 4G as of right now. So keep looking out for them.
Thanks guys.
I didn't know if I had to sign up for the ACS forums as well. And I'm not trying to rush you because I know it can be time consuming. I am interested in developing stuff for android, but I am just starting to learn the basics about Java. I just really enjoyed the ACS ROMs that came out for the epic and would love to see some variations of them on the Photon like I stated above.
Viper maintainer himself. Forgot you had a photon!

Oh and by the way shabbypenguin, is there going to be a tether compatible kernel for the Photon? I am using the photon penguin kernel and the newest Wifi tether and using the Nexus setting to get it to work. It will work, however it seems slow and the access control does not work.
im still working on even getting wifi to work on the kernel

Hey qbking77. Love your youtube how tos. You have helped me tremendously back on my epic 4g. Keep up the great videos. And I'm looking forward to seeing some ACS roms period for the photon. And I'm just curious, which ACS roms has Tphillips done or been a part of?

Rooting the phone is always worth it
In my opinion its the best phone on the market and the toms are ok now great like 4th bar sense I like a lot xborader and other are working on a very slow moving aosp ics but its the only aosp we have and but its all sense roms also bulletproof and energy are nice

Once you root make sure to install faux's kernel, its a significant battery booster!!

Hi mysticfrog and welcome bro!
Yes, The screen of the Amaze 4g is larger but not emolated (amolated?) and I've had no problems at all with Gingerbread nor with HTC Sense 3.0
The bloatware is there on this phone.
If you root your phone, it voids the warrantee btw.
The Amaze 4G IS slated for the ICS 4.0 upgrade & HTC Sence 3.5/3.6 probably in march. If not then your guess is as good as mine.
Insofar as ROM's are concerned, I don't know. As around.
Finally, You might want to reconsider this phone, as Google wants phone developers to come out with phones that don't have physical buttons!
ICS and Jellybean, I presume, are on phone which have physical buttons but the new Google phone only has on-screen buttons like the Iphone.
If I were you and I could wait till later on this year, I'd wait man.
Welcome to the forums!

WEll i can play with this one for 20 days.. from the specs it seemed like the phone to get.. i appreciate the input bro.. im just kinda bored with the sgs4g.. but having said that the devs over there are pretty awsome.. i just wanted a bigger screen and i didnt want a galaxy s 2..
I put NRG's ROM on to it. It is really nice, smooth and has many useful features!
If you wanna buy accessories, I'd recommend buying an Anker battery, a TPU case (i bought one for $3 on eBay), car charger and you should be good to go!
Alright guys I've got the amaze.. Im at work at the moment.. I just got one last question..
is the development of this phone going to slowly increase? Cause i do believe t mobile is the only one that has a phone of this juncture..
I've read ALOT on these posts were ALOT of people are not happy with the development.. Im not trying to get flamed for this question im just wanting to be with this product for the long haul and im just wanting to make certain that i made the right decision.. I've read the reviews all weekend so i do like the phone from that perspective.. Im just wondering about the development aspect of it all.. I just don't want to get it and then see devs leave for another product.. Basically how is the future development looking for this phone.. Thanks all.. Rooting this phone looks pretty easy btw.. I do like that...

If you're a crack flasher, then this device is not for you. I don't think development will pick up much at all... However, I say its the best device also. I don't need heavy development. NRGZ28 made a beautiful and EXTREMELY stable ROM called Energy. It's got all I could need.
Most people are salty about the device because they can't get s off so developers are backing out. We have 4-5 ROM developers, but the nrg ROM is the only one that's as stable as stock imho (but I haven't tried OneGoodROM or Bulletproof since the 2.3.2 update. A lot has changed since that release though.
If you're looking to flash a new ROM each week, then you will not like the device and you may have an addiction. If you're looking for a phone that has a few very stable ROMs to choose from, this is the device for you

do you guys want ics ports?

hey guys
if you want ics ports for eris, let me know. i can have ParanoidAndroid, MIUI 4.0.4, CM9 and AOKP for you guys very quickly, actually the roms are already done just need testers.
But if nobody is interested or around to use them, i wont spend the time bringing them and supporting them.
weigh in on this please
Hmm. I haven't really tried anything other than Gingerbread on my Eris 'cause it was already having a bit of bricking trouble on it's lonesome. You said you need testers.. Have you tried them out at all? I had trouble here and there running ICS on my Droid 2 Global and my Droid 3, so I wouldn't even really know where to begin wondering the plethora of issues it could have on an Eris. :Va
I guess I'm on the fence. :]
i dont have an eris so i cant test anything out
the eris, hero and heroc are so much alike though that im positive i can cook my heroc ics roms for eris though.
Yea! I can test everything that doesnt require me to activate it

I have an activated Eris and I'd be interested in testing any and all ICS (or Jellybean) ports. And I do mean All. I enjoy testing things thoroughly (usually software under Windows) anyway and comparing their ups and downs.
tee hee
I wouldn't mind testing things out without activation, as it is currently my little gaming device, but if something needs radio I might be persuaded to make it happen. :]
I have 2 eris's one activated one not. I can do all kinds of testing .

I also Have an Eris i'm toying around with. I would be glad to test anything. Just got it as a backup from my bro. Still working on S-OFF but will test anything once I have it.
