I'm currently using the Simply Stock gingerbread rom, and I flashed gingerbread bootloaders. I may want to try some of the new ICS roms coming out, but I want to be sure I know what I'm doing first.
Would attempting to flash back to stock 2.2 brick my phone with the gingerbread bootloaders? Do I need to revert the bootloaders first? Thanks in advance.
u can flash from the jvt rom you have now just fellow the guide in the op, you will have to flash the ics rom twice .but if u want to go back to stock use this guide and going back to stock would not brick you phone.

Gingerbread bootloaders are backward compatable with froyo and eclair no need to worry or change them. I prefer them because of the button mapping.
They also work with ICS. I have them and am running ICS Passion and have also tried all the other Vibrant and I9000 ics roms with them.
I also went striaght to ICS from DarkyROM 10.2.2 (2.3.4 JVQ)

I was just wandering do you have to update your phone to a certain firmware before you flash a rom or can you flash roms of a diffrent firmware then yours and it will update for you ? Sorry i know its noobish but i never knew.
- For example im running trigger 3.2 on 2.2 froyo if i go back to stock froyo rooted would i be able to flash a rom thats on gingerbread 2.3.4 firmware or do i need to go update my phone to gingerbread 2.3.4 firmware first?
2.3 isnt out for our phone yet so that wont work
just flash anything over anything, dont have to go to stock everytime apart from coming from cm7 or miui i think
then why are there roms saying based on gingerbread 2.3.4? o.o im so confused lmfao.
u dont have to go to stock everytime but do it everyonce in a while to clean the ghosts of old roms sometimes they cause probs in future roms u flash.

Because the I900 has gingerbread already, thats where the gingerbread port came from for cm7 etc...
So i can flash miui rom even thou im on 2.2 froyo? just to clear things up for me lmfao thankz in advance
not sure about Mui, i use cm7 and on cm7 u can go from froyo to cm7.
I have bought Vibrant with CM7 on it... Does that mean that I already have GB bootloaders installed or I have to flash them if I want to flash other GB ROM?
Just cuz u have cm7 doesn't mean the Gb bootloaders r on it

Most likely you have to ODIN back to flash if you want to switch ROMs from CM7 unless it's MIUI
So flash a GB bootloader!
CM7 Can use either Froyo or Gingerbread bootloaders. Chances are you do not have the GB bootloaders. You should Odin back to stock (I would suggest Eugene's 2.2 bc it is pre-rooted) then odin the GB bootloaders.
Ok. Thank you all
I have never flashed any bootloaders. But after reading a thread about going to jt's vanilla rom. It said to odin gingerbread bootloaders. I'm currently running miui mtd.. It seems to run fine.. I did a stock restore before I did it, does this mean I have eclair bootloaders? And what would flashing new ones effect?

ICS roms are beta at best, I wouldn't advise flashing one.
There is CM9 which is AOSP and there is Samsung leaks, all need ICS bootloaders, search and read before you even consider flashing any of the ICS roms.
how to get ics bootloader?? will it be automatically there if i flash a ics leaked rom??

Depends on the rom, stock ones will come with ICS bootloaders, you *may* need them first for CM9. Also if you want to go back to gingerbread from ICS you will most than likely need to flash back to the old bootloaders from this thread.
i got a GP 5.0 yp-g70cb/mea over the weekend and was surprised it got froyo 2.2.2 ive been reading and decided to try other roms based on GB but i got a couple of questions
how to do a full back up - i saw a guide for the 4.0 but not applicable for the 5.0
upgrading from froyo to ginger bread is it possible to revert back to froyo if anything goes wrong?
is there a cwm that works with the stock 2.2.2? i did search and came up with nothing
thanks,
aben

Please read here... This thread should answer most of your questions.

If you are wanting to upgrade to Froyo but are not sure about playing with custom roms, due to fear of bricking, etc... just do a factory upgrade to GB via Kies... no risk in doing so... and if anything was to go wrong, it's Samsung factory upgrade so you should be covered via warranty.
If you are brave enough to venture into custom roms, there are few options available for you. GB roms are pretty safe... no need for pre work... just download the custom GB roms and flash using Odin3... most of these roms will work for both US & INT versions of the players, provided that you flash the right kernel. Anyway... do some reading. Good luck...
Also, if you flash a kernel first, you can make a nandroid backup which can take you back to froyo.

Not really afraid of trying out custom roms i just feel the need to do a full backup before diving in in case something screw up but cant find any guide for doing so
i tried kies but it seems like mea models are not having GB updates from sammy
Flashing the kernel seems like a good idea but is it rom dependent let say rj custom kernel for intl version will it work on froyo assuming it is from GB (not sure)
Again i want to do a full backup before trying things up

Kernel version is independent of android version. I believe both yp-g70 kernels are based on the source thar Samsung released with froyo anyways.

If you want to install a different kernal, I recommend u to use Entropy512's kernal and when you flash, use an older version of super one click because you need to root it.

thanks for the info and suggestion i might have to go with rumirand's kernel as entropy is for us version and my player is international
