Renaming folder using cwm 4.0.1.4 - HTC EVO 3D

Standard folder backup name for cwm 4.0.1.4 is like 2011.11xxxxsomething. and when i rename a folder to a easy to remember folder e.g. "infectedrom".when i tried to use restore. It says files and folders are emtpy.all i did is just renamed my folder. ANY IDEAS????TNX
---------------
I dont use rom mnger(paid version btw) bec. The last time i used it.it screwed my phone.
It upgraded my cwm 4xxx to 5xxx,whenvr i use backup,it ask for backup name, but did not backup just restarted my phne, and if i use restore, there is no restore point(bec it never backup in d 1stplace).when using hboot 1.5(bootloader) when pressing restore,it dont go cwm, just restarts my phone.so i never used rom mng after that....

[Q] Uninstalled Rom Manager but saved its clockworkmod folder on computer!!

Im running Axura 2.2.5.7 which was flashed using Rom Manager. I was coming from 2.1 stock. I, somehow, uninstalled Rom Manager but before doing so I copied the ‘clockworkmod’ folder to my computer. Now if I do a fresh install of Rom Manager and copy the said folder from computer to my phone. Will I be able to gain access to my backups of stock 2.1 etc.?
Yes, should have no issues... but remember that CWR does not restore your kernel so if you tried to restore 2.1 backups when on froyo, you will be stuck at the Vibrant screen.
You SHOULD be able to flash a 2.1 kernel and then restore though. Or just ODIN to stock JFD, root, restore.
So when I do a fresh install of Rom Manager...do I just switch the newly created 'clockworkmod' folder (assuming RM creates the said folder as soon as it is installed) with the one I have on my computer?

Just replace the "backup" folder

Ok so I reinstalled rom manager and all the backup data is there now. I didn't copy the 'clockworkmod' folder from computer. I checked the contents of the backup folder and I think it has everything from previous backup. Is this normal?

Cwm backup renaming

How come when u rename a backup folder, and tried to recover it.it says "folder empty or no files in folder?. All I did is rename that folder to a more easy to understand name, not the standard date and time.???
Using Cwm 4.0.1.4
EVO 3d hboot 1.5

Because it only knows to look for what it named the backup, not what you changed it to.
so the program that only works that you can specify a backup name is rommanager? I used rommngr before and paid app too .what happened is it upgraded my Cwm 4.0.1.4 to 5...something, that app does not backup just restarts my phone(but ask to create a filename and just restarts lol) and when I tried to use recovery (on hboot and rommgr)it just restarts my phone
I never used rommgr after that incident.and the instruction on new hboot EVO 3d 1.5 is to use Cwm 4014 Manually? Any other options.?

Revised on recovery part.
When i use recovery using hboot it just restarts, when i use ROM mgr there is no back up file, bec. It didn't backup in d 1st place.

If you Open the ROM Manager App there's a Option "Manage and Restore Backups" if you Click that, then Click the Backup you wanna Rename you'll be given the Option to Rename it from there! If you Do Make Sure you Don't Have Spaces Between Words!
Good Luck!

How to rename backups

I'm using Amora recovery and I was wondering the best way to rename backups that are still able to be loaded without aborting

I doubt that this is the right section for your post, but I would also like to know the answer to this.
Yes should be in general. From my experience with clockworkmod recovery you could not rename recoveries. Have not tried with amon ra.

You can use Rom manager to rename backups, it will generate a New md5 I believe, I used to use it aalllll the time, it made life easier. i also used clockworkmod when I used it. Never tried it on amon ra.
Otherwise, it will probably be easier to put them in folders or something..
you also can't have ANY spaces in the folder name.
On CWM and Amon Ra, I have renamed without issue using Root Explorer. Just make your backup, reboot phone, go into the proper folder and find your backup, long press on the backup you want to rename, and choose the rename option.

sgs3 bricked

Hey everyone. I installed jelly bean on my gs3 and i didn't liked it (a little lugging). Thank God i made a backup before this process using cwm. But now when i tried to open this app in my phone it said something about application version. I tried using sgs3 toolkit but my phone now cannot boot into the system and using the recovery image i cannot find the restore folder (which i managed to copy it the sd card before). How can i restore my phone using that backup i have done before??
So you have a backup, but it does not work, or you can not find it?

I have a backup but since my phone won't boot i do not know how to install it. I have that backup on my pc too..
Boot into recovery (vol up, home & power) and restore...

Maybe you should try booting to download mode and flashing stock via odin and worry about your backup after your phone is in working order
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
When i go into recovery and press restore it says it does not locate any file to use. But i have copied the backup folder before all this mess to the root of the phone.
Does anyone knows how to use sgs3 toolkit to restore??
di you put your backup into /clockwordmod/backup?!? i mean it should be there but if it isnt it would be unecessary to do a full fresh install

Try and get the restore folder on your extSdCard and make sure you try to restore from ext sd in CWM.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
When i go into recovery there is not a choice to make backup or restore. Also i do not have an external sd card..
Flash CF root and CWM recovery as it looks like you have stock recovery .

What do you mean? You can't find the folder where you backed up to? You don't have sdcard/clockworkmod/backup?

So you don't have CWM? Just flash it with the toolkit
Ok done it. When i reboot the screen is black but the boot sound is playing normally, so i cannot see anything although it seems that the phone is on. Also when i boot into recovery mode and i try mount the phone, nothing happens..
Ok sorry for being so misunderstood, it is because i try at the same time to fix it.. Here how it is right now, when i boot in my phone the boot sound is playing but the screen is black. For the recovery image part, i have flashed cwm but when i go in recovery mode i cannot mount the phone to copy the backup file in cwn folder. And as i said before i already have a backup folder which i want to use to restore my phone. That's all that matters right now..Thank you for your answers btw
Just restore the backup
That is the point,i cannot do that.
So the backup is not on your phone?
Before messing up the phone i copied it on internal sd card, but not in the backup folder of cwm but on the root of the phone
When in recovery, open adb on the computer, type
shell
mv -r [YOUR BACKUP FOLDER PATH] sdcard0/clockworkmod/backup
Or actually, the more straightforward way would be to wipe data, then boot the device and move the backup folder into the cwm directory from there

Restore on TWRP one cannot find the backups

I installed TWRP 2.6.0.1 as one guides suggested.
I used it to do backups and install the Google rom (that has all a sort of problems). So I waned to go back to my backup but they were not showing in the backup list even if I could them under /sdcar/TWRP/BACKUP/...
After backing up another file I can see the new file.
I installed ROM Toolkit that can see the old backups but it fails to install them because try to get them from /internal_sd/ (or it was /external_sd ?) instead of /sdcard
What is going on?
Did I installed the wrong TWRP or what?
Moved to Q & A, please don't post something in development forums unless you are releasing something.

What I did was create a new backup using twrp then I used my file explorer to find the twrp folder and found where the new backup was made. I then moved over my old backup into that folder and when rebooted into recovery it found it

Most likely it's in 0/TWRP or /data/media/TWRP
