If you chose to use one of the roms do you also have to select which kernal to use. How do you know differenencse between kernals and roms... just wanted to know if its neccessary to also change kernals. as well as roms.. thanks all
All of the roms have kernels built in, and which kernels are mostly referenced in the release notes. The kernels are available to users as well for a choice if you need something special like CIFS support or a different governor; the kernel builders will mention what is available in their kernel. It also gives us the opportunity to update the kernel without having to reflash the rom.
Best bet, read read read. The devs are pretty good at keeping up their OP notes. Never guess, or you'll quickly learn how NVFLASH works.
Hi,
I have flashed about 30 different ROMs to my SGS2 and I can't seem to find the perfect one. There's loads of different features of different ROMs that I like and I just wanna combine all my favorite features into my perfect ROM. I was just wondering how hard it is to create one and if I need special software and if there is a tutorial out there?
Thanks,
Yogi
If you don't like any of the roms posted grab the base one from the rom kitchen and add onto it a kernel and theme that you prefer.
Doesn't seem to be working

Well mate, if you keep flashing in that rate then after one year the number will be hundred and yet you won't find the one you need. Why not stick with a simple stock ROM? I mean seriously why ultimately we run (not me) for a Custom ROM? For some gimmicks, other than that what we get?
Anyway, if you still wanna flash another then do as the above user said, Kitchen ROM's are more or less good IMO.
You are already getting mad about ROMs, time to enjoy the device.....
Instead of thingking building your own ROM, why not first learn the tricks of modding... have your best Base then mod it with themes, scripts, kernels, moded apks, and etc, its a lot easier IMO...
Hi! i have just bought a galaxy s3! Before i had a galaxy s scl and im familiarized with custom kernels and roms but with this phone i feel like newbie. I see there are a lot of custom kernels and i wanted to know if to put a new kernel is like before. Put the tar file in pda and flash with odin.
Another question is what differences are with stock kernels.
Also i would like to ask about roms, which is the best rom actually?
Thanks
Now most of the kernels can be flashed with cwm recovery. Just go through kernel instructions and how to flash on your phone.
There are lots of different kernels available. You can find the features and difference in their topic itself. Some are good for performance, some are for speed, some are battery life. You will have to find best kernel for youself. I am using syiah 1.8.
Best Rom discussions are prohibited here. You can try different rooms and see which one works for you. If you like vanilla android then try cm10.

Hello everyone, I was asking myself which rom and kernel should I use in order to:
-Get the best performance ?
-Get the best screen on time ?
-Get something balanced between performance and screen on time ?
There are so many custom roms and kernels for this phone, I can't try them all.
Thanks in advance.
USE PIXEL EXPERIENCE ROM WITH Sphinx Kernel - v1.8.7 by milouk
I have tried LOS, PE, NOS, Omni, AOSIP and AEX. But trust me, nothing is as fast and smooth as miui. But I hate miui for tons of system apps. So, the solution is miui eu ROM. Try it once and you will be amazed to discover a new miui without any bloatware and blazing fast performance. And just to let you know that none of the custom ROMs have IR camera driver and hence face unlock doesn't work as miui. Moreover, almost all custom ROMs and kernels have battery % drop issue on reboots. However, miui eu doesn't have any such issue. So, you may consider trying miui eu after trying all custom ROMs to see the difference or else different people may tell you different stories.
I own a LG CAM module, and so far of all ROMs I've tried it only works on the stock ROM, which is out of the question for me as the UI, speed and battery life are awful. No custom ROMs support it to my knowledge, is anyone aware of anything that supports these modules?
