Speed up X10? - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, im using wolfbreaks gaming v6 rom in my x10. at first it was saving 172 ram with advance task killer but now that i installed some app it became slow. so i have several questions if anyone like u ans:
1. Is there any way/patch i can use to boost up my performance?
2. Does different Kernels makes phone faster? Ex: modFXP-DooMKernel-v04??
3. How do I know if my bootloader is locked or unlocked?

1. I can't answer that
2. Yes and no. If you use a custom kernel like dooms (my favorite) then you can use an app like CPU master or no frills CPU manager to overclock your CPU resulting in a faster but more likely to reboot randomly phone.
3. Um, I unlocked my bl as soon as it was refined to the point of being part of the x10 flashtool developed by androxyde I believe... Basically if you've unlocked it then its unlocked. If you haven't then its not unlocked. No x10 comes out of the factory with an unlocked bootloader. This is a recent development by our amazing devs.

1. Don't use task killers... android is built to handle the ram on it's own. better off using some memory optimisations. your task killer could be slowing the phone down it's self...
Also FREE RAM is Wasted RAM. having huge amounts of ram free is counter productive on android. ( and we dont have that much to start with ) on my phone I hover around 55 - 70 mb free most of the time. and my phone is pretty snappy (for an x10) EDIT* ( to an extent you dont want to have no free ram )
there is no magic app that works for every one every phone is defferent.
Hope that helped a little ( prob just confused you more )
to sum up
Auto Task Killers + Android = Bad
Memory Optimisation + Android = Better
2. Some Kernels are overclock and use different cpu governers to get better responsiveness. My personel Favourite is MinMax ( dooms kernels have it )
if you already have a kernel consider updating as they get better with newer versions
you can play around with setcpu to setup the best freqs/governers for you.
3. to check you bootloader i think there is a tool in the bootloader unlock thread you plug in and run it and it tells you.
but if you unlocked it then it is still unlocked. if not then it is not unlock is permanent.

Pvy.

thanks guys for all ur help & thanks @pvyParts for confusing me....i was ok till "Auto Task Killers + Android = Bad" but then u had to say "Memory Optimisation + Android = Better" and now here I am scraching my head thinkin how do i optimize memory???

Hey
1. I dont know
2. Yeah they make hell of a difference i uae freekernel and its rocking
3. Reboot your phone and if you ser the sony Ericsson logo it means its locked .

That just tells you that you have a custom kernel installed. You can have an unlocked bootloader and still have the stock kernel.

[Q] Fastest ROM for the HERO?

Hey there. I've been running VillainROM 1.5 Froyo for about 2 weeks, and is quite dissapointed of the speed. It's to laggy, even when I'm just writing a SMS. So, i was woundering, what ROM is the fastest? i dont seek any android version under 2.0 - Thanks!
Have you tried flashing flykernel over the top of froyd? I found that helped - but only the 528/352 kernel.
I currently use Elelinux 2.2 stock with the default 528/352 - well smooth, but I find that if I go any higher than 576 flykernel the phone becomes laggy.

Don't know what that means
Elelinux for me too. It comes with the kernal so no need to worry about that. Lag could be helped by full wipe. Elelinux has now released a lighter version which may be even faster. Keep caches clean and overclock to what works best for your hero : )

I'm also using the Elelinux Froyo 2.2 ROM, so far so good
Much quicker than the 2.1 i was running.
So far no breakdowns.
I'm using elelinux's Froyo 2.2 Special Edition release and my phone is faster than it's ever been.
Apparently I can't post links to other threads. That's dumb!
I am using RCmix (experimental), its very fast, and I had no problems with it. The only problem is that it drains the battery quite fast, but still a excellent rom.

how do i know what to overclock it to+
Try without overclock, the Rom is fast anyway so you may not need it. It can be trial and error, search the forum for set CPU, you can download set CPU for free there too: )

ok firstly he said fastest
i would put money on none of them roms match the speed and smoothness of sensehero b5.1
it just lacks some of the new cool stuff people go on about which after a week you wont use it anyway so id say sensehero
VillainROM12 with Flykernel overclocked to 729MHz (by SetCPU, scaling mode=performance). Very fast and stable.

Okay, first of all, i don't know **** abour all that overclocking and all that. I'm just a newbie who learned how to root my htc and install another rom. And when people say "Overclock" i think, "Well, can't it break it i overclock it, like a computer processor?" - So, i need one to tell me exactly which rom, and everything i need to do to get it to run fast and stable. I hope someone can help

Knowing how to install a ROM is enough. Installing custom kernel is pretty much the same: get a zip file (in this case it is FlyKernel-11c #66 (Generic) from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=730471), put in on your SD card, boot into recovery and apply the zip.
Then you install SetCPU application which allows you to change the maximum frequency of your phone's CPU. No tech knowledge is required: it has a slider to set it. The higher the frequency the faster your phone will go but setting it too high might get it unstable (apps closing, device freeze). You just need to experiment to get to the highest frequency possible.
Oveclocking cannot damage your phone (it's not like PC overclocking when people usually also raise the CPU voltage).
Get VillainROM from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=715728
Good luck

Thanks for that detailed answer. But even that isn't enough, need instructions one by one
Just flash the Elilinux 2.2 ROM.
You won't be disappointed
Don't think anything, don't hear to anyone.. just do this..
go to this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=784689
and then just download, the rom.. and wipe everything... and just flash!!
you will be amaiged to see this, battery is best, fast, everything is perfect (9.9/10 )
Goto the Android Touch development section. Find [ Guide ] Complete newbie guide to rooting and installing roms by btdag. HERE: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=645253
I was in your shoes 4 weeks ago, and now I've flashed 5 roms. 2 kernels. Countless themes and a font or 3. Seriously that guide is simple and easy to learn.
As for roms, I've only tried 5, so I'm certainly no expert but I've found them all to be very close speed wise. Stability wise, floyo, froyo and villian roms seem to edge out ( but only by a little, they are all good ).
Readers digest: read the above thread, then read it again. The put all three of the above mentioned roms on you SD card. Try them all. Once you know the steps in that thread, switching roms is a breeze. That thread includes step by step instructions.
Good luck. Msg me if you have question i'll be happy to help. I was there in your shoes just a month ago and know how frustrating it can be.

x10 bootloader

X10 bootloader has been finally bypassed!
Does that mean our bootloader will be unlocked as well?
Slade, d4rk, etc., say something.

We can already add modules to the kernel for overclock and undervolt etc. So whats the point in doing it
Would be able to unlock carrier SIM locks for free.
Use custom kernels for native tethering support
Improved battery life.
Sent from my U20i using XDA App
Ahh yes of course. Overlooked the second one because my carrier doesn't allow tethering
We wont get improved battery life, because that comes with undervolting - we can do that already.
Also better camera support for CM7, if I'm not mistaken.
The most that we can make after "unlocking" the bootloader is that we can boot any custom Operating System.
Yes, not just android but any operating system, but that is totally dependent on our hardware capabilities ofcourse!
It's true, death, you're right!
But that's really awesome!
Imagine Android 2.4 (which will come later) or android 2.3 without bugs or windows phone 7 (for the windows lovers). And believe me, a qualcomm processor with Adreno 200GPU isn't low.
Bootloader has been bypassed !
But on the big X10, they can flash custom Kernel !
And custom kernel are very important !
If you run Android 2.3.4 on a Kernel for Android 2.1 it's not very stable !
A good Kernel can save Battery life without undervolting !
With a custom Kernel we can have very good performance in games.
But anyway, SE don't give his Kernel sources so it would never be as good as it can !

[Q] Can i flash kernel / OverClock without rooting?

harlo.. im afraid its impossible. but rooting arent that hard and if u want the root to be unroot, jz do a full installation via SEUS or PC companion
i think root your device will be correct way to gain more speed. btw, if u are not so-in ur device, rooting should be fine since u are not going to mess ur device. root only meant something when u utilized it for customize ur phone core files, if not, rooting simply meant to gain some speed, but not at all, bear in mind, it is all at your own risk.
can try any task killer app to gain some speed without rooting.
p/s: i read somewhere else, 2.3.3 is fast because the rom are set to be full at all time, not like 2.1 and 1.6 the rom stay empty until u run some app. (not so sure)

ISC slow?

I already looked for some kernels but I dont want to unlock the bootloader.
Is there any posibility to make the phone faster without unlocking it?

Do a clean install instead upgrading, remove bloatware and finally don't expect miracles from 512mb ram
If you really want to use your phone flawlessly, stick on the stock .62 firmware. ICS lags too much, even the Sony warns you about this before updating. A 512MB single core processor can't do so much. Else, the best method is unlock your bootloader (don't worry, you can relock it again ) and flash the Night-Elf KERNEL with 1.8 GHZ OverClocking capability and many much more advantages.
Still, at last, .62 is the best

I appreciate your answer, I too followed all you said but in my case, it lags (even after Supercharging). So, switched back to the .62 firmware. Even the WiFi is not working properly on ICS, connects then disconnects repeatedly.

LG P500 has 512MB RAM, msm7227 ARMv6 600mHz CPU and ICS works super smooth and fast.
On neo V i'm using Apex launcher, and I prefer turn off xperia home and other blotware.
Sony must update kernel to newest version to bring us full ICS experience.

i've come from varous devices, new to sony, i am on stock ics here with locked bootloader (ICS - 4.0.3) and build number being 4.1.A.0.562, if i wanna install another ROM it needs to be 4.0.3 or some other? (don't wanna unlock boot now)
a really good ICS rom which is less laggy than the stock one please?
thanks
