Anyone know if the Gingerbreak.apk root works on the Photon?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
I don't think so but I am not 100% sure. Why not use photon torpedo or the one click root method?
Sent from my MoPho. All typos are the phones fault.
No gingerbreak doesnt work on photon super one click worked for me before sbfing to 198_7 now only pushing new system.img via moto-fastboot worked for me

I used the one-click method provided here. Took me 5 minutes to watch the video and 5 minutes if that to do.

A couple dozen of those threads would tell you to flash the latest sbf to take you to stock. You would not be rooted or have bootstrap recovery afterwards. Apps like su that you downloaded from the market just need to be uninstalled. Also, this is not a development thread. It should have been posted in General.

Agreed, this needs to be moved.
That aside, the Photon tends to retain apps if reset via CWM. The only way I've been able to get it to clear properly is to "factory reset" from settings a couple times then run the SBF. I found this bug after wiping via CWM, flashing the sbf and finding launcher pro and LP widgets intact upon reboot. I know it's not my phone as I have duplicated this on my dev/testing mopho as well. If we can get Calkulin back maybe he can write a format.zip like he did for the Evo.
Your right, sorry, mod please move, that said, I saw threads of sfb, but nothing for stock. They were all modded sfb files, deodex ones and roms.
I don't need any of roms, or deodex system, just a complete stock sfb file.
If u know of the thread then a link would be nice.
Thanks

Anyone having problems after the latest update? I got a new Photon and rooted it first thing. After an ota update I can't get it to root at all. It reboots constantly during the process. Ideas?

Which root method are you using? I've not had any problems with the torpedo method, even after the last update. Two obvious issues to check off first is do you have the superuser app installed and USB debugging on?
Everything is as it should be. It has to the update. I have no clue about what to do.

Torpedo works on 198_6.
Duh, something as simple as starting the batch file and tapping the enter key twice before inserting the usb cable. Thanks for all the suggestions. (-;

Hey every one. My laptop and desktop decided to crap out at the same time. So I was wondering if there is a way for me to unlock the photon via the hd dock or via the phone without needing a pc. I'm already rooted but it seems pointless to have root if I can't even flash roms. On my Evo 4g I was a flashaholic. So please any insight would be greatly apreciated.

You can root it from just the phone, but to my knowledge you cant unlock. I could be mistaken though.

no, cause you need to sbf the derpunklock.sbf and then you still need to issue the unlock commands thru commands prompt(moto-fastboot unlock)

My wife has a Atrix 4g that i have to send back to att. She is not into flashing roms, etc but i am so i know what I'm doing just not with this phone. I'm wanting to root it, tbu all her apps and then unroot it to send it back. Is their such a tool for this phone? I've searched the threads and did not find anything. I do not want to have to flash sbf files. I have a one click root and unroot tool for my Atrix 2 but I'm sceptical of using it on her phone. She is on the 2.3.6 update- 4.5.141. If someone could point me in the right direction i would appreciate it.

There is a file that enables one click root/unlock.
But to get back to full stock and locked you would have to use the sbf's.
Ya i seen that. I don't think I'm going to find what i am looking for. Iv read about this phone all morning and the phone itself is a hell of a lot different than my A2. She doesn't care for a rooted phone so I'm just going make her reinstall all her apps and data herself. Thanks for the help though.

Should be able to push everything through from sdcard on your phone, as long as your typing correct commands into your terminal emulator. Can find the instructions with the file links.

Posted this in another thread.....
For rooting, this is what worked for me.

Success has been reported in post 15 of the same thread. Also, check out the stickys, particularly "Read Here First. All things MoPho". The best info is kept there.
Good luck!
