[Q] added apps and tweaks - TouchPad General

i have apps and tweaks ::
1. kamel media player
2. uberkernel to 1.5 and govnah
3. gemini file manager
4. internalz pro
5. tunein radio
6. keyboard arrows
7. box.net
these are my problems for now..
i looked hard for a way to use a non-HP wireless printer directly from TP.. i think there is no way unless i go thru a pc that has Touch2Pc Printer installed
i didnt find any way to share files across home network pc's..
also,, i would reaallly like a file search tool like windows ..
i dont see how to find running processes like a task manager...
i want to put the analog clock face on the lock screen instead of digital.
i want to change the limit of 5 icons on the menu bar
is it stupid for me to ask about streaming from box.net as i download media from the cloud?
so if anyone has solutions for me or sugg's, i would greatly appreciate it..
i will use android, but i would like to get webos tweaked until ICS comes..
thanx

But SeamanPlayer is slow, isn't it?
Tried it with X10 Mini, and X8 under 2.1 ROMs, they're both laggy and uninstalled.
Good ROMs/apps are stable, fast, small, not turning up unintended with low power consumption without many updates, right?
GTunes is an example, I used to download songs with it with old versions, while new updates simply add ads, and that's why I abandoned it.

Top 5 apps for Android

Hey people please tell me your favorite 5 apps. Also let me know your top 5 games; separately. I want to make a video on it.
Thanks
EDIT: Please don't mention the apps which require you to root your phone. Also, please be sure to give a short description of the app you mention!
CWR
SU (root)
TB
everything else is just icing on top
with root:
AndroSS: probably the easiet screenshot application out there, it has the option to use the acceleramtors. IE: shake the phone and take the pic (shake it like a poloroid picture!)
SetCPU: a must have for incredikernal users.
without root:
Dolphin Browser (uses the mozilla source code, each rom i flash that's the first app i re-install)
Pandora
SiriusXM (requires pre-exisisting subscription with SiriusXM Sattelite Radio)
Speedtest.net: going to the webpage in the browser will automaticly re-direct you to the market download link
Launcher Pro
For APPS:
Titanium Backup
Go Launcher EX
Power AMP
Drop Box
Wifi File Explorer
Dolphin Browser
CWR
Drop Box
are the best
Vignette - the best camera App i know
Root Explorer!!
Pulse - Best news reader i found.
Widgetlocker - my lockscreen with everything i need
Explosm! - CYANIDE AND HAPPINESS
CalendarPad Pro - best calendar i found for me.
Opera Browser
sry those where 7, but i cant say only 5 >.<
those are the best apps for me.
but "must have" are apps like setCPU, SU, AdFree, TerminalEmu and so on.
My favourite games are:
PewPew2!!
Spirit
MINECRAFT POCKET EDITION
Shaky Tower
Cut the rope
and maybe Zenonia1-3, but i didnt play them much.. they got boring after a while :/
root explorer
gesture launcher
pandora radio
cpu master
drop box
favorite games...
death worm
brain age
words with friends
fruit ninja
lane splitter
some other great apps that i use, that really could be my top 5 as well (you said 5 so i kept it at 5)... are the following...
cache cleaner NG
my backup pro
screenshot ER
terminal emulator
there are some amazing apps out there... there are other great ones i use, but just cant list them all.
Please tell me applications which do not require you to root your phone. I'm a newb. Also give a brief description of it
Also, please be sure to mention games separately! Thanks. hoping to learn a lot!
lol well like half the apps i use are root apps
hmm.. pandora radio is basically just web streaming radio app, you can Customize and save stations simply by entering 1 word and it will play songs related to your criteria… very amazing app. And it is good at putting songs together that are similar to the criteria you enter.
gesture launcher is probably my favorite... this app is so freaking useful. you basically assign swype gestures to open apps, shortcuts, any function of your phone. there is a little green android that stays on your screen at all times (very small, hardly noticeable) and whenever you are doing something and want to open a particular app or shortcut you just touch that little droid icon then draw your gesture and it opens up immediately. this app redefines "multitasking"
another good one is zedge.. basically a ringtone and wallpaper downloader
drop box does not require root.. it is a wireless file transfer portal from your phone to a computer... try that one out... amazing as well. i use it all the time.
Why not use the Market 'Top' lists. It's more comrehensive and covers a much larger sample group. i.e everybody using Android!
@vs511 : you must try to read a guide about how to root your's devide. You can you many useful app .
My best app (non root)
Astro manager - bluetool.
Advantage task killer.
QQ laucher.
Opera mobile.
AVG antivirus.
apps for me
dialer one
wifi analyzer
opera
titanium backup
opera
If you want top apps you can try different sites like apktop, appbrain, etc they will give detailed info.
i dunno why people write their apps without saying what the apps are for? stupid

[Q] Turning my legend into a mp3 player

Hi, I've got a new phone recently, and I'd like to turn my old HTC legend into a mp3 player.
I'd like to completely remove Android and just make it a file manager similar to an iPod Classic, so I can play audio and video files.
I want the file manager to be the ONLY program on the phone, exept being able to take pictures (althogh the last is optional)
How do you do that/anything similar?
Thank you.
I don't think removing Android fully and using the phone with just a file browser is an option, I might be wrong though.
Your best bet would be to run CM7 without the Gapps package, this will probably be as light and fast as your going to get.
MoPhoACTV Initiative
Well, I don't want it to be an Android anymore
I did something similar with my old Motorola Droid. I wanted it just to be an Audible player, so I installed CM7 and just disabled as much as I could. With root access, you can remove a number of system apps without breaking anything, and then use something like LauncherPro to hide the rest ot the icons in the app drawer that you don't want on there. You can also make a dock at the bottom in LauncherPro that has nothing on it, so that you can't even get to the drawer without adding an icon for it in the dock. You would end up with a homescreen that just has whatever specific apps you want on it, similar to an iPod Touch.
It'll probably be close to impossible to get something working on there that isn't Android--the touchscreen/wifi/camera rely on drivers and such. Your best bet will probably be to go with a ROM and customize it to fit your needs.
If you've ever used the Rockbox firmware for various MP3 players, there is an Android port. This runs like a regular app on Android. Its compiled daily for Android here:
http://rasher.dk/rockbox/android/
You still need an operating system, you can't just get rid of Android. You could disable stuff that isn't essential to the OS like Gapps, and any other apps you dont need.

Safe To Remove Apks I9200

FOR ROOT USERS ONLY
Tested on Mega I9200 XXUAMEE
I removed more than 100 system apks, and my Mega works like a charm.
You will notice that the google apks are missing, and that the video player, music player, file manager etc. are missing as well, I removed them because I don't like the way they spy on us and suck our private data (look at the permissions they have if you don't believe me). No worries, just keep on reading for some alternative apks, and some ways to prevent spying...
IMPORTANT
1-Before to start the delete process do a Nandroid back up, and do a back up of your system/app folder (where all the system apks are) in case you want to reinstall a specific apk later.
2-If you decide to uninstall the filemanager apk, install first an alternative file manager, like let's say ghost commander, because if you don't then you won't have any app anymore to navigate to your files after having uninstalled the file manager, pretty obvious.
Same story with the launcher, or you will get a bootloop.
3-After you uninstalled all the apks do a cache and a dalvik cache wipe.
4-Reboot and enjoy full speed and no lags!!!:good:
5-Go to the data/data folder and erase the folders from the removed apks (optional), or use sd maid or whatever similar apk to do it for you.
IMPORTANT 2
Do not mess with system apks if you don't know what you are doing and if you don't know how to get back to the beginning in case things go wrong.
I won't take any responsability for any damage caused to your phone.
All what I mention below has worked for me but once more, do not play with your system unless you know how to recover if things get out of control.
SAFE TO REMOVE APKS
Rather than giving a list of removed apks I will list here the apks I didn't remove, so that you can assume that any apk that is not on the list is safe to remove. I do so because it's faster to list the remaining apks than the removed ones...
So here are the apks I kept (I have to admit that it's a bit extreme, and you are of course not obliged to keep so few apks, but at least you'll know which ones are safe to remove):
-csc
-defaultcontainerservice
-flashbarservice (removable if you don't want to have the static multi windows function. By the way I made a mod to enable floating multi windows that doesn't need the flashbar, you can find it here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=48000697#post48000697)
-fusedlocation
-hybrid radio (removable if radio is not your thing)
-jobmanager
-logsprovider
-minimode-res (removable, but I kept it temporarly for testing purposes on the above mentionned floating windows mod)
-packageinstaller
-samsungcamera (removable? It seems that if one removes it then alternative cameras don't work, but I haven't tried them all)
-seccontacts
-seccontactsprovider
-sechtmlviewer (removable and replacable by an alternative html viewer, but since it doesn't spy and since it works well I kept it)
-secphone
-secsettings
-secsettingsprovider
-sectelephonyprovider
-stk
-systemui
-vpndialogs (removable, but then no more vpn)
-wlantest
Note that if you delete mediaprovider you won't be able to change your ringtone and your notification tone anymore (not a big deal for me but I don't know for you), and you will be stucked with the default tones. To change them manually you'll have to open the res/raw folder in framework-res.apk and add your own tones, not a big deal.
ALTERNATIVE APKS
-Launcher:
holo launcher hd, or whatever launcher you like, but install it before you uninstall touch wiz!
-Keyboard (Samsung ime):
I use the modded Xperia keyboard but there are many others.
SMS:
go sms, or any sms apk you like, choices are plentiful.
-Bluetooth:
if you use it for speakers or headphones keep it, but if you use it only to transfer files then uninstall it and use fastfiletransfer (the best, it works without wifi connection) and/or any ftp app (like swiftp for example, but such apps require an active internet connection) instead.
-Video:
mx player or bs player (the two best ones to my opinion) + floating player (basic video player but it boasts a resizable floating window, handy if you want to watch something while doing something else).
-File manager:
ghostcommander (dual panel mode, root browser, customisable toolbar),- or totalcommander.
-Music player:
I like gone mad music player but there are one zillion other options.
-Browser:
opera mini for speed, mozilla firefox for full desktop experience, and dolphin mini for something in the middle. Chrome? No thanks, the least google stuff I have in my phone the better I feel!!!
-Gallery:
quickpic.
-Polaris (pdf reader):
moon reader or mantano.
-Edit documents (doc., docx. etc.):
office suite or kingsoft office.
-Alarm:
any alarm clock apk will do, there are heaps of free ones...
-Google Talk:
lillypad hd.
-Gmail:
any email apk will do, otherwise access gmail from opera mini browser, it's faster.
-Play Store:
aptoide (there are others, see which one fits you the best).
Google Now:
actually you can keep that one if you like it, it's a stand alone apk which means that unlike gmail or gtalk apks it doesn't need the full google framework to work.
-Google maps: maverick (but there are others), google earth (stand alone apk, and not too much on the spy side).
-Clipboard:
clipboard contents.
-Calculator:
aircalc (floating calc).
-Quick Notes:
floating stickies.
-Bonus:
greenify (try it, it hybernates apks and saves juice).
That's all what I can think of for now. You are of course free to ask if you need anything but remember, most stock apks are replaceable and a quick internet search will show you plenty of alternative apks.
Last part, how not to be spied...
Some of the alternative apks I listed above do have abusive permissions, and so have the remaining system apks. To prevent your personal data to be sucked and sent who knows where you need four apks, namely:
1-Rom Toolbox Lite (free) or Pro (paid),
2-Privacy Blocker (paid),
3-AFWall+ (firewall, free),
4-Xprivacy (free).
-First open Privacy Blocker. Scan all your third part apks one by one, and see their dirty little secrets. Then mod the ones you don't like, it's easy, just follow the onscreen instructions.
-Second, open Rom Toolbox. Block adds, prevent any apk from auto starting, disable any transmitter you don't like, and try some build.prop and kernel tweaks if you feel like it (but be careful and do not play with your build.prop and your kernel unless you really know what you are doing).
-Third, set your firewall for wifi, 2/3/4 g, vpn, wlan and roaming with AFWall+.
-Last but not least, install the ultimate protection, Xprivacy:

Enjoy!

[Q] Disabling everything but music

Hello!
I have this horribly cheap china android phone (it's supposed to be a GalaxyS4 mini - replica, but it looks nothing like it) and I bought it for one single purpose: To have it stolen in case of need. Yeah. At nights when the city over here becomes very very insecure, I keep my main phone hidden, while I bring out my chinaphone to listen to music and to connect to facebook chat (the stand alone app) by connecting to the "Portable wifi hotspot" I activate in my main cellphone.
The thing is, the chinaphone its a piece of crap (it has 256 MB of RAM under android 4.1.2) and while it works fine after it has been rebooted, it tends to go slower and slower, to a point where it does absolutely nothing. I managed to somehow root it (it was a pain, since the rooting tools were in chinese and so is the root app) and I have installed a couple things to "enhance it" which is basically removing the bloatware they put in to make it look like a galaxy s4, live wallpapers and whatnot. And I installed another launcher, Nemus launcher, which is supposed to be one of the most lightweight.
So anyway. I was wondering what "apps" can I safely delete or disable to have a bare-bones device that can connect via wifi, open facebook messenger and play music. Maybe instead of asking what can I delete, I should ask: What should I keep?
Well, I assume you will be using Titanium Backup to remove the applications? Do you have a list you can provide here of the apps that you have?
By the way, while sad that I think it is you have a "in case of robbery phone," I also think that that is an awesome idea ha. Where I live it's not necessary, but i'll keep this idea in mind in case I have to move.
Thank you. Yeah. I have to think ahead of eventualities. I have been robbed before and I sure dont want to lose my current phone, that's why I invested in this piece of hardware that "looks" like it could be my phone, while it's waaaay cheaper.
Anyway. As for apps, here's the list that android reports under apps->all
Acount and sync settings
Advanced task manager pro (i use it to kill everything in emergencies when it all goes crazy slow)
Android Keyboard
Android System
Atrium (im getting rid of this one, I dont really use it)
Bluetooth share (should I delete this one? the bluetooth in this thing is so slow that it's like not having it at all)
BootResSelcet
Browser
Calculator
Calendar
Calendar Storage
Certificat Installer
Clean Master
Clock
com.android.provision
Counter
Download Manager
Downloads
DRM protected Content St... (cant read the rest, off screen)
engineering model
ES File explorer
FlashBarService
Gallery
Google Play Services
Google Play Store
Google Services Framework
HTML viewer
Label
Live Wallpaper Picker
Media Storage
Messenger (facebook)
Music
Nemus Launcher
Network location
NoBloat Free
Package Access Helper
Package installer
Pico TTs
Root Explorer
Search
Search Applications Provider
Settings
Settings Storage
Sound Recorder
Status Bar
Superuser
Swiftkey
Tools
Ultra keyboard
User dictionary
VoiceCycle
VolidationTools (i thought it was "validation" but no, "Volidation")
Im using swiftkey as I love that thing and the whole "Flow input" is great for this phone, considering it is not multitouch, It's "single touch" and if I try to type with the thumbs as in my real phone, it ends all garbled because I type rather fast, and i press keys at the same time; this translated in a single touch device, when I press by accident two keys at the same time, it finds the middle point between my fingers and uses the letter in there, which is really annoying. And typing slow is... well, frustrating for me. With the flow thing, i just swipe and the words come out nicely thanks to the prediction. Problem is, that it also seems to slow down the system to a crawl very very quickly
Any other keyboard that has this function so I can try it?
Does anyone has any experience with Lightning launcher? It claims to be ultra fast, but Im not sure that means it's lightweight with the resources.
You only use this phone for music right? I would remove the launchers and swiftkey, if so.
Or do you use it for more?
