Found a Droid X2 in the lost and found box at school a while ago, 2 months later and it's still there. I tried figuring out who it belonged to by turning it on, but there is a password upon boot (can see the background, but then the it prompts for a password). Any way to get around this without doing a full system reset (would wipe out all his contacts and any way of tracking down the owner I'm afraid )?

Couldn't you just do an announcement at school asking if anyone lost it. And if they can verify the password its more than likely theirs. Seems like a easy way.

If it has been in there 2 months the phone would have no service anyways unless the person didn't cancel/freeze/etc their service for lost or stolen device. If you take it to Verizon they can get it into the correct hands.
Unless in reality you are trying to get into someone's phone that doesn't want you on it.
Take it to verizon if your really trying to get it back to the owner...

Hey all,
I recently dropped the ROM down to the stock. Then did SPL 2.4, upgraded to the Sprint .exe, then threw on the most recent radio 3.42.30 after 1.2 unlocker, and then went back to SPL 2.4 and ROM 3.2.2.
I haven't for the life of me been able to get Data Back. It continues to tell me that login/password are incorrect. That was on Radio 3.42.30/ROM 3.22
I even flashed it all the way back to the Stock Rom, then tried changing the login/pw which didn't work.
Then I read a comment by DCD that I would most likely need to call Verizon to have them check it out. They suggested reprogramming, then taking battery out and reinserting. Then same password/login problem. So i manually inserted the password. nothing. Then they suggested programming with option #2. Still same problem.
They asked if I wanted to get a refurb, which I thought cool. They told me they only had samsung i760's.
I've been furiously reading/searching for 2 days now. I'm suprised I can't get this fixed. Help would be greatly appreciated as I really like the phone and don't want to have to exchange it.
Thanks

Ask the rep to do a DMU reset. it resets your phones data settings. you need to do it if you relock on VZ phones.
Trying
So, the tech support guy decided not to do a DMU...apparently sending me a refurb is easier. They were able to find one in the system.
Other than flashing to Stock ROM/Radio, is there any other necessities to save my warrantee?

No, you should be fine with stock bootloader, radio and ROM.
A Reset is easy.. you just got an idiot on the phone.
I found that each time I reflashed the radio.. I have to do one of the following:
1) Call and have them reset my A key
2) Call and have them reset my data.
If you get the massage you arent authorized when you make a call.. you need the Akey reset.
If you get a Wrong password error while using data.. you need the Data Services Reset.
Every call goes the same way..
I tell them that I need my Data settings reset.. I tell them it happens each time I hard reset my device and I'm a software developer and often need to hard reset... This is routine call for me.
They ask me what the error is and then proceed to go through 20 minutes of troubleshooting making me put in passwords and taking out the battery.. I ask them if they could reset my data after each thing they try, and they say they don’t think that’s the issue... Finally after 20 or 30 minutes of this.. they ask me to hold.. they come back, ask me to try it and it works.. I ask them what they did... they say I figured I'd try resetting the data.. and act like they thought of it on their own and like I haven’t asked for that at least 8 times on the call.
That’s just how it goes... the important thing.. Be nice. Do the steps they ask you to, and eventually they will reset the data. If you act like a ****.. you won’t get anywhere. If they want to send you a replacement.. (and you don’t want it) tell them you'll try a few more hard resets and that you’ll call back if you really need one. They will be happy to let you go cause it's less paperwork for them. Call back a little while later and you'll get someone else who is more willing to do a data reset for you… don’t tell them you just spoke to someone else.
NEVER tell them you flashed custom software. Most of them wont care.. But they may flag it in your account.. it all depends who you get… but telling them that is never a positive thing.
(another helpful trick to avoid any resets.)
You must have another WM device thats not activated for this.
Go online.. Move your activation to another device.. Flash the radio.. move the activation back. This works and you dont need to reset Akey or Data.
You cant move service to a non WM device as it will remove the data service from your plan.
you can also (if you have an old vzw phone) quickly login to vzw online enter that esn number wait 5 minutes and then enter your device esn#. Some at ppcgeeks have success with this method though I'm not sure I never did it
This may be a dumb question, but I haven't seen it come up yet: did you try installing DCD's Verizon carrier cab? I just flashed to 3.2.2 last night, installed the carrier cab, everything was working, then I did some other unrelated stuff, and eventually decided to hard reset. Upon coming back from the reset, I was bummed to find that my data connection wasn't working. I figured that maybe the hard reset cleared out whatever magic the carrier cab does, so I reinstalled, and bingo, data connection was back in action. Hope that helps.
Verizon
So to start off, thanks for the help and comments. I was 100% confident that when I got the first "Login / password incorrect" message, I would be able to fix things.
Verizon decided that wouldn't be the case.
I spoke with probably 4 different people over the weekend to try to help. The first time it just was ridiculous, re-entering the same password/login OVER and OVER, despite me prefacing the conversation by saying I had already done it. The second lady wasn't quite sure what phone I had 10 minutes into troubleshooting, a few minutes later I decided I had to "go". The third guy was helpful, and I suggested the DMU reset after awhile, but he wouldn't do it. I told him to hold on the replacement, called back, went through the same procedure with another guy, suggested the DMU reset and again, they wouldn't do it. I have a replacement coming tomorrow, as they wanted to do it, and I figured a "new" case couldn't hurt?
If this happens again in the future, I'll certainly try the others suggested. Thanks for those.
I agree that you should never mention you custom flashed the ROM...even since day 1 when I got this phone 6 months ago, I knew not to do that thankfully.
And lastly, relating to the suggestion to install the DCD Carrier Cab. It was flashed to Stock, so I'm fairly certain that would be unnecessary. Thanks though.
When you suggested DMU reset, were you speaking with a CSR or Tech Support?
DMU
I was speaking with Tech Support.
Though one of the ladies was for sure either 80 and clueless, or brand new.
The last guy I spoke with seemed very competent, but for some reason unwilling to do the DMU. He explained to me "Unless you recently received a refurb, or a new handset, there would be no reason to do a DMU reset." I didn't quite have an answer that wouldn't indicate that I had broken the warranty, so I decided against pursuing that any further.
In the past I've tried the "software developer" angle and that I often Hard reset which has helped with the A-Key, but the DMU seemed to be a different story.

It's easy. If they give you that bull****, you tell them you just performed a hard reset and when it finished, your data didn't work. You tell them you're familiar with EPST so you checked your settings, and you noticed that the HA and AAA shared secret keys were blank, as well as your HDR AN AUTH Password and PPP Password keys were blank. You tell them that this is indication that a DMU reset needs to be performed. As long as you sound like you know what you're talking about and provide this information, they should do it.
Beautiful
Beautiful.
I'll actually give that a try now until I get my other phone.
By the way. Are there any negatives to getting a refurb? I've seen a few friends get refurb'd XV6800's and they always look great. Couple bumps and bruises on mine, so I figure what the hey.

This works.. it's the same thing I previously posted.. but like I said above, you must have a WM device. Essentially what you are doing is switching activation to your old phone, then reactivating your new phone. I suggest moving the activation before flashing but you may not need to.
If your old phone was not Windows Mobile.. I.E. A plain old LG flip phone.. You have to remove the data services to switch to it. Depending on your plan... You may not be able to add it back online... so you have to call customer service and it's a giant pain. Plus you'll get pro-rated for what you used until that point, then pro-rated for the remainder of the month when you add it back... and somehow all that math will = a bill thats $15 more.
If your old phone was a WM phone.... it's all good.. nice and simple.
I lost my phone last night in a yellow cab in NYC.
I had the tasker setup to locate phone when i text it a certain mssg.
I tried this morning to track down my phone but the taxi was all over the place and its nearly impossible to get my phone because even when it did stop moving...the adress it gave me was a large apt building and theres no way i can get my phone back even if i do know its in the building somewhere.....
I need any advice i can get please.
I would get in touch with the cab company.
Walk into the apartment with dual Uzis and go door-to-door until someone looks scared ****less. No, but seriously, just call the cab company, ask if anyone used the cab to arrive at that apartment or near the area, then yeah, how you confront them I'm not too sure.

The worst part about this is knowing where it is and knowing i have a limited amount of time to find it before its gone forever...and as far as i can see i think its still in the cab as ive been tracking the phone by gps and its been all over the city....I just dont know the cab medallion number and its nearly impossible to catch this cab driving around in the city.
I don't know if tasker gives you network or GPS location. There is an app called lookout plan b. You can install it from market.android.com from a computer onto your phone remotely and locate your phone with GPS. If that's more accurate, that may help you track it down easier.

Yes Entropy ive tried many times and at first it just seemed that it was still in the back of the cab unnoticed as no one was picking up. I went online and suspended my service and i also know now that the battery has died since my gps location isnt responding anymore and when tried to call goes straight to voicemail now.
One thing is that i checked my call log online and noticed there was a 911 call made from the phone yesterday at around 7pm. The phone is locked so he must have either tried to get in thru the emergency call or called 911 to report the missing phone.
Either way i called the 2 precincts in Manhattan that receive lost items and claim nothing was brought in. It seems to me that even if it was, they would not want to tell me anyway, and are really rude.
I lost my chance of finding the phone as it is dead now and the service has been cancelled. maybe if someone tries to charge it up and turns it on i can try to track it again.
I had no insurance on the phone. But i did pay for the phone with my american express gold card and they have a protection plan that covers stolen/ accidental damage till 90 days after purchase. I sent a claim to them so hopefully they will reimburse me the money paid . Then i called ATT to mail me another sim card to my house. My brother has an upgrade and i spoke to the rep and he said i can do a cross upgrade where i can get a phone for the upgrade price without having his line added to a data plan as well.
In the end i might get the same phone back for free but with having another line on my family plan under a 2 year contract. I loved that phone a lot...running your kernel and unnamed. Even if i get the same phone again...idk if it will be the same for me lol.
Also im so stupid i didnt have any nandroid backups on my comp and were only on my sd card. lucky i had titanium backup stored in my dropbox so that is good.
Also lookout for android is ****. After i realized i had lost it...i upgraded to lookout premium for 14 days free trial and tried to lock and wipe my phone. didnt work. tried to locate my phone using that as it stated it might be more accurate. didnt work. tried to use the scream function. didnt work. nothing worked and i tried searching forums and i think a lot of ppl have problems with it not working... I should have tested it out before i actually needed it.
Also thank god for 1.3.1 update that fixed the lock screen issue that i installed a couple days ago...otherwise all my info was just out in the open....im still worried tho...wish the stupid wipe function worked.
My coworker just get her first Android, she had an old Razr.
I was working the first time she asked me to show her how to work it and set up stuff. Today I asked if she got the hang of it yet , and she said no its locked and she cant use it and att couldent help her... Okay ..
So something about she had to use the sim that came with the phone. and now she cant get into the phone .
is there a motorolla activation password or something . The new sim is working in her old Razr for now.
Is there antyhing I can do to get her phone back working?
I think the phone is refurbished ,orderd online some where, dont understand whats so difficult and why a simple call to att didnt fix it.
but ill at least look at it for here tomorrow if u guys can give me some Atrix info
More info needed. Exactly what happens when the phone is turned on? Is it an AT&T phone?

Its att she saying now it wont hold a charge ill look at it tomorrow so I can explain , shes not very computer smart
What password could she be talking about , ive never used a Sim card

this happen to my sister's phone. we just called AT&T and they had to reset the phone from their end. I honestly don't know what happened nor how it got to that point, but the AT&T rep I spoke with apparently knew exactly what to do.
I thought it was my sister trying to set a passcode on her phone but accidentally set a SIM passcode or something.
anyway, have her try this. see if it works.
Only pass codes she could have set are the SIM or the lock screen password I think. We'll better placed to help when you can give some accurate feedback as to exactly what the phone is, or is not doing.
I told them that my phone was overheating and would freeze and shut off while on and off the charger after updating to ME7 (which it actually does). They told me to put it in safe mode for 24 hours and see what they find. I know I have to unroot it before putting it in safe mode. Anyone else have to do this to get a replacement? How did it work out for you?
That sounds like BS to me. Someone might tell you this in hopes that you somehow solve your own problem. But, I would just get irate and tell them that it's their responsibility so give me a claim number and tell me where to send the phone.

I called verizon today, talked to the tech told him my phone kept losing 4g service and dropping my wifi signal all the time. Told them I restored it already twice and it didn't fix the issue. Tech said looks like you covered all area's you'll recieve your replacement in 2-4 days.
It's that simple :good:
My replacement phone I just received 2 days ago had no wifi strength and the bluetooth would skip when I was holding the phone (anyone ever heard of that happening?) I called them last night and told them I done everything I was supposed to (factory reset, troubleshooting) they over-nighted me a CLNR got it this morning. I'd call again and ask for someone else because I've never heard of safe mode on the phone-they just didn't want to do their job I believe....
I just wanted to make sure they can't get inside your phone or anything by putting it in safe mode. What should I tell them when I call back. Any messages or info come up when I take it out of safe mode that the tech may ask for?

Four tries before working replacement
I too had overheat problems w/ my phone(s). Including the original phone Verizon sent me four phones before a fulling working one arrived. The certified program, in my experience, is crap. I've gone through multiple models, S4 & Razr MAxx, when phones were replaced for faulty operation. Good news is the last, working, model S4 I recieved was still on MDK. It was rooted within the hour after receiving it. Eclipse ROM and never a problem since. Be persistent, call back as often as needed, and don't take no for an answer. And safe mode, bunch of bull****. Factory reset is only reliable fix. About half the time...

What they said-def keep calling back. I read in a post a few months back about someone saying Verizon was able to get into our phones to help look for the problem not sure how truthful that is-but I would not allow them to hop into your phone they could prob see if you rooted or not. My replacement was MDK thankfully all the bloat they put on these phones really burn me up. And sometimes it does take several replacements before you find one that is perfect-my husband went through 7 Rezound's before he got a good working one. Now I'm the one with the issues LOL
Long story short, factory reset phone. Prompted with "Phone has been reset, please enter last used Google Email and Password." So I enter in the correct information, proceed to the Terms and Agreement page, and it sends me back to the "Enter Google Email and Password." Page again. It's stuck in this loop.
I tried changing my password, factory resetting, clearing the cache, talking to Samsung rep (they said to send it into a service center), I'm just at a complete loss here.
Some research says that after you reset your password, you have to wait 72hrs before you can unlock the device again. I'm not sure if that makes sense...
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Good luck. Smartphones have become pretty hard to crack in the past 2 years. The last thing i would maybe try is odin back to stock and try again. If that doesn't work, you should ask for a replacement. My job used to be a Samsung service center and we were told if anybody comes in with a knox or reactivation lock issue to send the unit to the head service center and they will send us back an other phone. Just like on the icloud lock on idevices, it's a huge hassle to bypass thoses locking mechanisms, and for a good reason.

Well at this point brute force would be an option to consider. There are a couple of thread of users being locked out of their own phone in the Note 4 forum, i remember seeing them when i had a note 4 and it was one of the most active threads, I know it took them a few months to figure out what to do when you are a legit user, not a thief, and you're locked out of your phone because you forgot to untick the reactivation lock option after either flashing or restoring. I know there is a way, but i'm not sure where the thread is, I know it's either in the T-Mo section or the international section because these are the only 2 sub forums i visited.
You should consider checking it out, might be your only hope before bringing the unit to Samsung...and BTW, you'll probably have to fight with them because technically, this is a user mistake...at least that's how we dealt with it when I worked for Samsung. If you're lucky enough, you'll deal with a person like me that can relate to your issue and will pass it under warranty by bending the truth a bit.
EDIT: My memory fooled me, it's the Note 3 forum, not the 4

Hi,
I from tihs understand that you have iCloud Actvation Lock problem, and need for you to add original owner password in your device to unlock. If you not are the original owner that only way is to use factory unlock service. I have the some problem as you and used this here: howtoiphonegeek .com and help me.

If you changed your password recently you should wait 72 hours and then you'll be able to unlock it with your credentials. Hope this works for you and it's your case.
