Hey all,
I recently dropped the ROM down to the stock. Then did SPL 2.4, upgraded to the Sprint .exe, then threw on the most recent radio 3.42.30 after 1.2 unlocker, and then went back to SPL 2.4 and ROM 3.2.2.
I haven't for the life of me been able to get Data Back. It continues to tell me that login/password are incorrect. That was on Radio 3.42.30/ROM 3.22
I even flashed it all the way back to the Stock Rom, then tried changing the login/pw which didn't work.
Then I read a comment by DCD that I would most likely need to call Verizon to have them check it out. They suggested reprogramming, then taking battery out and reinserting. Then same password/login problem. So i manually inserted the password. nothing. Then they suggested programming with option #2. Still same problem.
They asked if I wanted to get a refurb, which I thought cool. They told me they only had samsung i760's.
I've been furiously reading/searching for 2 days now. I'm suprised I can't get this fixed. Help would be greatly appreciated as I really like the phone and don't want to have to exchange it.
Thanks

Ask the rep to do a DMU reset. it resets your phones data settings. you need to do it if you relock on VZ phones.
Trying
So, the tech support guy decided not to do a DMU...apparently sending me a refurb is easier. They were able to find one in the system.
Other than flashing to Stock ROM/Radio, is there any other necessities to save my warrantee?

No, you should be fine with stock bootloader, radio and ROM.
A Reset is easy.. you just got an idiot on the phone.
I found that each time I reflashed the radio.. I have to do one of the following:
1) Call and have them reset my A key
2) Call and have them reset my data.
If you get the massage you arent authorized when you make a call.. you need the Akey reset.
If you get a Wrong password error while using data.. you need the Data Services Reset.
Every call goes the same way..
I tell them that I need my Data settings reset.. I tell them it happens each time I hard reset my device and I'm a software developer and often need to hard reset... This is routine call for me.
They ask me what the error is and then proceed to go through 20 minutes of troubleshooting making me put in passwords and taking out the battery.. I ask them if they could reset my data after each thing they try, and they say they don’t think that’s the issue... Finally after 20 or 30 minutes of this.. they ask me to hold.. they come back, ask me to try it and it works.. I ask them what they did... they say I figured I'd try resetting the data.. and act like they thought of it on their own and like I haven’t asked for that at least 8 times on the call.
That’s just how it goes... the important thing.. Be nice. Do the steps they ask you to, and eventually they will reset the data. If you act like a ****.. you won’t get anywhere. If they want to send you a replacement.. (and you don’t want it) tell them you'll try a few more hard resets and that you’ll call back if you really need one. They will be happy to let you go cause it's less paperwork for them. Call back a little while later and you'll get someone else who is more willing to do a data reset for you… don’t tell them you just spoke to someone else.
NEVER tell them you flashed custom software. Most of them wont care.. But they may flag it in your account.. it all depends who you get… but telling them that is never a positive thing.
(another helpful trick to avoid any resets.)
You must have another WM device thats not activated for this.
Go online.. Move your activation to another device.. Flash the radio.. move the activation back. This works and you dont need to reset Akey or Data.
You cant move service to a non WM device as it will remove the data service from your plan.
you can also (if you have an old vzw phone) quickly login to vzw online enter that esn number wait 5 minutes and then enter your device esn#. Some at ppcgeeks have success with this method though I'm not sure I never did it
This may be a dumb question, but I haven't seen it come up yet: did you try installing DCD's Verizon carrier cab? I just flashed to 3.2.2 last night, installed the carrier cab, everything was working, then I did some other unrelated stuff, and eventually decided to hard reset. Upon coming back from the reset, I was bummed to find that my data connection wasn't working. I figured that maybe the hard reset cleared out whatever magic the carrier cab does, so I reinstalled, and bingo, data connection was back in action. Hope that helps.
Verizon
So to start off, thanks for the help and comments. I was 100% confident that when I got the first "Login / password incorrect" message, I would be able to fix things.
Verizon decided that wouldn't be the case.
I spoke with probably 4 different people over the weekend to try to help. The first time it just was ridiculous, re-entering the same password/login OVER and OVER, despite me prefacing the conversation by saying I had already done it. The second lady wasn't quite sure what phone I had 10 minutes into troubleshooting, a few minutes later I decided I had to "go". The third guy was helpful, and I suggested the DMU reset after awhile, but he wouldn't do it. I told him to hold on the replacement, called back, went through the same procedure with another guy, suggested the DMU reset and again, they wouldn't do it. I have a replacement coming tomorrow, as they wanted to do it, and I figured a "new" case couldn't hurt?
If this happens again in the future, I'll certainly try the others suggested. Thanks for those.
I agree that you should never mention you custom flashed the ROM...even since day 1 when I got this phone 6 months ago, I knew not to do that thankfully.
And lastly, relating to the suggestion to install the DCD Carrier Cab. It was flashed to Stock, so I'm fairly certain that would be unnecessary. Thanks though.
When you suggested DMU reset, were you speaking with a CSR or Tech Support?
DMU
I was speaking with Tech Support.
Though one of the ladies was for sure either 80 and clueless, or brand new.
The last guy I spoke with seemed very competent, but for some reason unwilling to do the DMU. He explained to me "Unless you recently received a refurb, or a new handset, there would be no reason to do a DMU reset." I didn't quite have an answer that wouldn't indicate that I had broken the warranty, so I decided against pursuing that any further.
In the past I've tried the "software developer" angle and that I often Hard reset which has helped with the A-Key, but the DMU seemed to be a different story.

It's easy. If they give you that bull****, you tell them you just performed a hard reset and when it finished, your data didn't work. You tell them you're familiar with EPST so you checked your settings, and you noticed that the HA and AAA shared secret keys were blank, as well as your HDR AN AUTH Password and PPP Password keys were blank. You tell them that this is indication that a DMU reset needs to be performed. As long as you sound like you know what you're talking about and provide this information, they should do it.
Beautiful
Beautiful.
I'll actually give that a try now until I get my other phone.
By the way. Are there any negatives to getting a refurb? I've seen a few friends get refurb'd XV6800's and they always look great. Couple bumps and bruises on mine, so I figure what the hey.

This works.. it's the same thing I previously posted.. but like I said above, you must have a WM device. Essentially what you are doing is switching activation to your old phone, then reactivating your new phone. I suggest moving the activation before flashing but you may not need to.
If your old phone was not Windows Mobile.. I.E. A plain old LG flip phone.. You have to remove the data services to switch to it. Depending on your plan... You may not be able to add it back online... so you have to call customer service and it's a giant pain. Plus you'll get pro-rated for what you used until that point, then pro-rated for the remainder of the month when you add it back... and somehow all that math will = a bill thats $15 more.
If your old phone was a WM phone.... it's all good.. nice and simple.

I flashed DCD's recent ROM and now I cant make outgoing calls. Says I have an authenticity error.
OK I have read some posts that people contacted verizon twice and ran tons of tests. They wouldnt tell me my A-Key....
Some people posted that verizon gave it to them easily.
Does anyone have some insight????? I need to make calls.
What can I do?????
Call Verizon and tell them you did a hard reset and now you are getting that authentication error. They will make you do a *228 after they set it up on there end and it will update all your info. I know this cuz I have done it twice.
I called them twice and did the tests and *228 a couple of times with them and still NOTHING.
Verizon opened a Trouble Ticket for me and told me to call back tomorrow....
Any other ideas?
You just got a bad tech. Twice I was lucky. Just try again and tell them you did a hard reset and this happened. If you get a good tech they will know what to do. Tell them you can receive calls but can't send out calls, see what they tell you
All xv6800s don't have A KEYs - it depends on what part of the US they were
shipped to - that is what vzw told me. My phone didn't have one. I had the same problem you did and I called VZW (ask for a tech because the csrs don't
have a clue) and told them I did a hard reset and could not make outgoing calls.
They fixed me up over the phone and my phone works great.

yeh, and make sure you are calling technical support for your device and not customer service. i flashed last week, the day i got my phone, so when i got the error, i guess it was more understandable, took me like 5 minutes of troubleshooting until he generated a new a-key.
one thing we should all be aware of. my tech said that it was weird because for some reason theres been a large amount of xv6800's calling needing an a-key replaced. so its possible that verizon may be aware of all this upgrading and losing the a-key.
you know what though. I checked my A-Key before upgrading and there was nothing there. It must be another setting causing this.
What is this "activate another phone, then reactivate the 6800" trick that I keep hearing about occasionally? Is this a way to hard reset your phone without having to call Vzw to get a new A-key?
Chimp (Tom)
#1 - i have hard reset my phone about 40 times since i got it, never had to get a new a-key
#2 - you can call verizon as much as you want and get as many a-keys as you want...they dont care
#3 - when i first got my phone and activated it, it wouldnt work for some reason...i could make and receive calls but couldnt browse the net, even though i had the unlimited data plan. so i had an old motorla phone laying around, went on the verizon site, logged in, selected "activate existing hardware" option, typed in the serial, then hit ok. that made my old phone my active line. then i went back a few pages, and re-did it, but using the serial from my new phone (xv6800 Titan), and voila! calls, email, internet, everything worked...I didn't have to call in.
however, point #2 still remains true...you can just call in an get a new a-key...it's way less work that doing #3 - but both work.
Connor,
I do have my old Razr laying around so I could try that too. It is just a pain to call. Last time I had to explain to the first person, get transferred to tech services, explain it again, have them tell me over and over that they can't explain why just doing a hard reset causes the A-Key to go away, then look up the new key, etc etc. I think it took me 20 minutes last time including when I had to wait on hold.
So any other way would be nice. At least I now know how to do it.
Thanks!
Chimp (Tom)
If you tell them you are a software developer when you call, and that you need a new A-Key, they will skip all the amateur/dumb steps and just give you a new A-Key because then they think you know what you are talking about.
I just bought a sprint mogal to replace my burnt out p4000. I tried installing the telus cab, nut couldn't get it to connetect to telus (and I did change my settings in the ESPT using the new ESN numbers etc with my old telus defult settings that i wrote down... all of them) I was still getting the roaming probs. I tried *22803 as well as ##MSL# to no avail. So I figured maybe it would be best to down flash to stock telus Rom and radio and go from there. So I used titan relocker (to replace my nue SPL 2.47) and tried to flash the stock rom. Now I am getting a ERROR 294 invalid vender id.
Does this mean that I can't use this phone on telus? I just shelled out dollars thinking it would be no biggie to switch it over. Am I missing something?
Thanks for any help....
Surprisingly I am not freaking out yet, just enjoy another programing puzzle lol
You need a telus prl. Also you can't relock a sprint phone and install a Telus rom. The phone has to be unlocked to install the telus rom.
i have had a situation that does not shine much hope on your situation. i used to work for telus and was provided a diamond for testing purposes when they came out. it had a problem and our htc rep sent me a new one straight from taiwan. now heres the kicker -----it could not be activated untill the esn was entered into the system on the back end by telus, this took well over a week. this is far from a standard esn exchange. never in two years of working with telus have i been able to get the data network assistance guys to enter a non telus branded phone. the super tight back end activation will not allow it.
i really hope im wrong, and i hope someone will respond to this and make me look foolish, but they would not even accept ne bell pda's which r essentially the same phone minus the existence in the telus master database.
oh man i cannot wait till the tech switch next year so this will no longer be a problem.
as a last resort, i do have a p4000 i nolonger use as the call and end buttons no longer work, but all the touchscreen options make it still quite usable. if u would consider some sort of swap, i do not intend to exchange any $$$ of ne kind, i am open for suggestions. i just see no point of my old p4000 sitting around when it could be used
Alas krazycanuck82 you are correct. The kicker is that next year they told it this would no longer be a problem. I am waiting to receive an email from Telus tonight about what options they can give me on a new phone based on a sorta promise from me that if they can't give me a deal I will just buy out the last year of my contract and shop around. So we shall see. As for the Sprint phone. I will still be using it for other apps for the time being so am not to concerned on that front. Just a lesson learned to never assume LOL.
Hi everyone,
I recently began experiencing network issues on my Vibrant (would not work on 3G, only EDGE) which did not go away with any troubleshooting steps.
Yesterday, it crapped out completely and refused to connect to the network at all. No calls, no data, just a "Not Registered On Network" message. It wasn't the SIM card either.
I did a soft reset, hard reset, factory reset, and ended up flashing the latest Bionix rom (1.9?) with Voodoo and the whole deal. That still didn't work so I called T-mobile and requested they replace it under warranty.
So my questions are:
1) The phone is not only rooted, but flashed with Bionix 1.9 (JAC UV Voodoo). Will that cause problems with the warranty?
2) If yes, would flashing to a stock ROM fix that (disable Voodoo and restore from Odin)?
3) If the warranty is VOID, what will TMO do?
I asked the rep but she wasn't very helpful at all.
Thanks!
You coyld just delete everything on the phone all apk all apps and send it in all there going to so is reinstall there info when you send it back I don't think that they communicate with eachother about stuff like that if they did customer service would know more about flashing roms and actually be able to help more when something gos wrong other than a series of resets
The guy on the couch
I would flash it back to stock via odin... why take the risk they might say something. Its easy takes and takes next to no time to do.

That's what I'm thinking too. I'm going to do that. Does that clear root though?
@willsnews, I'll try that too. I don't want any trace of my stuff on the phone anyway.
replacement phone
ezspassov ... mind sharing the status of your replacement? my tmo samsung vibrant (18 days old) crapped out on the 12th within 24 hours of receiving the JI6 update from tmo. phone will no longer boot. got it to boot a couple of times but all the apps force close even after a user data wipe (guessing it's a hardware problem). tmo was to express ship out a replacement but today the order status was changed to BACKORDERED! did you get your phone or is it also backordered?

Yes, flashing the stock rom through odin will remove any system traces of root. On the other hand, make sure your smart and delete any evidence manually through the file manager on your internal and external sd card. For example: Don't leave a bunch of zip files lying around named "Root", "Bionix rom", etc....Be smart...

That's crazy because I am having the same issue actually. I had to order a new one.
Anyway, the loyalty rep assured me it would be easier for me to just do a warranty exchange (and assured me it would be brand new, which I doubt very much but eh whatever) instead of of sending back this one and doing a whole new order and waiting long times for my account to be credited and all this crap.... anyway I went along with it. Well I called today to get the tracking number cause she told me to and found out it was on backorder. Hoping it isn't on backorder for to long cause I want to get to enjoy my phone fully.
I asked if I could just send this phone back, they could cancel the exchange, and then place a new order (the backorder is only for exchanges they told me) that way I know for sure I am receiving a new phone cause I am still under the 14 day buyers remorse period but after a 20 minute wait, yes 20 minutes, they came back and said they couldn't place the order at all (I was going to pay with my cc).
So I said eh whatever just go ahead with the exchange in hopes that it won't be to long before they come. I know the rep told me they've been on backorder since the 13th, smh.
So..
So what if I had flashed nero beta 2 and the phones rooted and not only can I not enter clockwork recovery anymore but my phone isn't recognized on the USB ports so I can't Odin back to stock. I get the "USB device not recognized" even though I've manually installed all samsung vibrant drivers. How would I go about erasing all the data now? Any help would be great cause I'm not sure what I can do with the phone now.
ok i have successfully rooted and s-offed my 3vo but that calling problem i have (error 16) so i called sprint and they asked me for alternative number i said no and they said its ok but they needed some personal info(im 13 and on my uncles plan)so i said i dont know as im on my uncles plan and she said ok and then she asked for name. i gave her my name and then she asked for my uncles name and i gave that to her and she said thats not what comes up so i said well i dont y and she said to go to sprint store and get them fixed. i cant go or take a chance of getting caught with s-off or root. ok so i was done with sprint. now i tried dialing ##72786# to reset hands free and hands free worked but still no calling. i tried ##3282# and reset profile and now i get verizon wireless wen i call .and now i did it again and sometimes i get sprint(mostly) and sometimes verizon.
im stuck and dont know what to do...should i talk to sprint again and hope the next person doesnt ask for info or is there a fix idk about...
thanks to whoever posts
I think you should flash a stock rom( rooted of course)...just tell your uncle that some of your friends also are having some issues with the particular phone and a new update simply needs to reset the phone by owner calling the representative. You don't need a another line..see other thread about what to say. This should be a no biggie. You are not lying and you are infact telling the truth.

its very funny for me when you said that just tell your uncle that friends having the same problem (thx anyways)but i kinda actually root and customize phones for him and he sells them on ebay etc... (im probally going to root his as he has one too) ... but is there a point to flash stock as i didnt debloat or anything just rooted and s-offed
No, if you do mods for your uncle..he should be responsible for it then. Reason for the stock rom was to make sure you did not get in trouble for rooting it. But it seems like no big then. Have him do it, simple as that.
I work at sprint. That just happens sometimes when the phone is reset .. make a call it will tell you to stay on the phone it then will connect you to a rep they'll reset a setting. And then you should be good.

It doesn't cost anything to reset the phone.
Ok here is what you do, just log on to his sprint account online. Take one of the other phones and put it on your line, any sprint phone will do as long as it isnt activated at the time. Once you have swapped the phones online just wait 5 minutes and swap the 3VO back to the line, presto you are done, just make sure both phones are off when you do this. Once you have swapped the 3VO back to the account wait 5 mins then boot it up, it will go to the activation and presto it will be all set to go.

get a new one i meant which i doubt is going to happen but i just dont feel like telling anyone and dealing it with my self
I had the same problem, after flashing no calls or texts would go through. I called Sprint, gave them the error code (from failed text msg) and she asked me to remove the battery give her the ID code on the back of the phone and she had it working by the time I booted up. I did not offer any reasons for the problem and she did not ask, I really couldn't have been easier.
I had the same problem at first and I've had 3 different solutions.
1. Update profile and PRL (seems unnecessary but its worked for multiple ppl)
2*. Download MSL Reader. Once you have your MSL go to dialer and enter ##yourmsl#. That will being up EPST. Select edit. Change YOUR number (top one) to 000000000 and leave the MSID. Reboot. Allow hands free activation to go through. If it takes longer than 5 mins hit cancel and go back to EPST (##yourmsl#) and change the string of 0's to your number. Reboot.
3. Call sprint and tell them you have error code 8 or 16 when trying to make a call. That tells them they need to reset your phone.
