I copied gingerbreak.apk to my sd card and tried to install it. Nd when I install it a pop up occurs on the screen 'non-market applications cannot be installed'. Then I go to the settings to check the unknown sources option but the option isnt there. I have attached a pic.

You have an AT&T ROM, which disables sideloading, thus Gingerbreak will not work. Search the wiki for the correct rooting procedure.
Thnkx.. I was able to root my phn using superoneclick.
Then I tried to flash the streakmod recovery but was unsuccesfull. I tried it through fastboot mode. But when reboot into recovery the 340 recovery appears on the screen.
How can I flash streakmod recovery???

You still didn't use the correct method but as long as you got it rooted. DO you just absolutely refuse to do any searching on your own?
Apparently not. I think I'm going to change my signature again to reflect the words of a moderator on the Inspire forums.
(The following exchange is paraphrased.)
Poster: Can someone give me detailed instructions on how to root?
Moderator: In short, no. Do your homework. There's no spoonfeeding here.
Guys I ve done a lot of searching.. But cudnt find a solution.. I also dnt need spoonfeeding.. I wud love to learn abt it as much as I can..

If you dont want to be spoonfed: flash streakmod, which requires learning how to use fastboot.
Then flash superuser.zip, there's tutorials on the stickies and on the wiki.

Definitely not, it's taking you to OEM recovery. Good luck flashing from there.
Just flash a kernel with CWM Recovery if ROM Manager doesn't want to play nice. Do all you flashing by booting to recovery and flashing from there.
What could be wrong?
I click the boot into recovery from the rom manager.?

It hasn't actually installed CWM Recovery so it's booting you to the only recovery you have: stock.
You can also boot to recovery by vol up + home + power.
I could never get Rom manager working on mine so flashed a cf-root kernel with cwm included all working fine now

I find ROM manager only plays nice on CM..
Next time you find yourself there do the three finger salute and it should continue to cwm and even proceed with the ROM manager task.
Cwm is present but for some reason it hasn't written over the stock recovery. Its one of the most annoying bugs since I don't have a PC to fix anything with when **** gets squirrelly. I will be replacing this phone with the nexus for that reason primarily.

Hi guys, sorry if this has been explained somewhere - I've really tried to find answers for myself but navigating through the countless threads on this forum is a major pain, so I gave up.
I have a new european ICS GSM Motorola RAZR xt910 and I've tried to flash a custom rom on it. I installed and configured BootMenu Manager, downloaded and converted the SVN 1.1 rom from the development section on this forum, rebooted and now I'm stuck on the blue cyanogen animation thingie going on and on forever. For some reason the BootMenu thing doesnt appear when I reset my device, which is strange, since i would expect a recovery to actually allow me to recover. Apparently that is not the case.
So anyway, I can only boot to the black and white menu through holding up and down volume buttons. From there i can go into stock recovery (says it cant mount sdcard, so it appears useless for me) and AP FastBoot.
I already tried to recover with RSD Lite as the tutorial on this thread says - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1539192 - but of course the firmwares there are GB and cant be installed on ICS.
This is really frustrating, could somebody please help me and point me in the right direction?

hi, i've the same problem with my razr (GSM). I'm using a factory cable because my battery is too low.

Any idea?

Ok, solved. Windows 8 is the evil! :good:
With Windows 7 I managed to recover, in few minutes, my Razr
OK, so I'm having an issue trying to flash a new ROM. I'm currently using the LiquidSmooth JB ROM and I want to switch to the Paranoid JB ROM.I downloaded the necassary zip file and I put it on my internal SD card. Went into CWM and wiped data factory reset,wiped cache,and wiped dalvic cache, then went to install from internal SD card,selected the zip. It says installation terminated and gives error 7. I've tried this numerous times with 2 different ROMS and I'm getting the same thing each time. I completely wiped my internal memory and put the files back on and tried again and I'm getting nothing. I'm thinking I need to redo Odin and reflash CWM but before I do that I want to make sure its not something I'm just spacing out on. I'm fairly new to all this but I was successful with my first ROM using the same method. Any suggestions?
Oh I'm using the latest CWM touch.
Error 7 means your recovery IS in fact out dated. You have to update to latest version. A simple search would have provided the answer
TWRP recovery is highly recommended

I had searched to see if I had the latest CWM but I didn't specifically search error 7. Either way its kind of what I was thinking anyways. Can I just overwrite CWM with TWRP by flashing it with Odin or do I need to somehow delete CWM first.
Sent from my SGH-I717 using xda app-developers app
You flash the TWRP zip and as it flashes, it overwrites the CWR. It reboots to TWRP.
TWRP is a friggen awesome upgrade to recoveries. I have to get over to their thread and give them a donation. Its a beautiful piece of code.
Oh here's a pic of my error just in case

Rom manager actually isn't necessary for flashing Roms luckily (assuming you are already rooted with clockworkmod recovery installed)
you'll just need to download the zip file of the rom you want (you can browse through the ones in the development section)
and place the zip file on the root of your SD card (or in a file if you prefer, its just easier to find on the root of the internal sd card)
then reboot to recovery by turning off the phone.
then power it back up while holding power + volume up + volume down at the same time. (its a bit of a balancing act..)
this will put you into recovery mode. (it should say clockworkmod at the top)
it should look something like this:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
then choose install from internal memory and choose the rom you downloaded.
once it finishes you can reboot and it will boot into your new rom.
What he said above (to an extent). If you are only Rooted but still have stock recovery, then you won't be able to follow his directions as you will have 4 options and Install from SD won't be one.
What you need to do is go to my Repo thread in the Dev section and download the CWR zip. Offhand I can't remember if it is named Update.zip, but if not you just have to rename it. Boot into Stock recovery via the key combo and hit Reinstall Packages. It will cycle through and should change your recovery. If not, then hit Reinstall Packages again and this time for sure (I have one Vibe that'll do it on the first time and another that takes 3 times). From there, all you have to do is flash your ROM based on it's OP instructions.
Well I have superuser permissions but how do you know if you have clockwork recovery?
