Hi all!
New to the forum and anxious to play with my SGS2... Let me begin with something simple...
First of all I guess I'll need to root my phone ( buildnumber XWKK2 ) I already figured out I have to use "CF-Root-SGS2_XW_XEN_KK2-v5.0-CWM5.zip" to root my phone. But just to be sure: That IS the file right????
So... I should have a rooted phone at this point... Next I'd really like to remove some, for me, useless apps like the Samsung Hubs en the Bol.Com bookreader, just to save the battery. Will simply rooting my phone give me the ability to remove those apps?
And last but not least... Will rooting my phone result in a nice yellow start-up triangle?
Hope that someone is willing to help a newbie on this forum ;-)
Regards,
Scoobman
once you have root, yes you can find your self an app called system app remover and that will let you remove all the samsung bloatware you dont want, such as stuff labelled here, the app is paid for so dont ask for it ;p
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1069924
yes you will have a nice yellow triangle, imo it dont bother me but you can search there is a thread but i cant find it,
and yeah thats the right kernel to root your phone
Mr. E. Goldstein...
A big 'Thank You!' for your clear and fast answer!
Kind regards,
Scoobman

Rooting will not bring in the yellow triangle...yellow triangle comes only when you flash a custom kernel...
Secondly, there is a way to remove the yellow traingle

Thanks for the extra info Does tuis also mean rust the binary counter won't start counting when just rooting your phone?

It will start counting but there is a way to remove the yellow triangle that is mentioned in the thread if im not wrong. Or you could just get a jig that will reset the counter and remove the yellow triangle off eBay
Now I'm a bit confused... One reply says the triangle won't show while another reply says it will...
I'd only like to root my phone to remove some useless apps without touching the kernel... Root, remove, that's it...
I'm aware that there are ways to remove the triangle if it shows, but hey, if it doesn't show at all it's better
So.... Can someone please give me the final answer for this root-noob ;-)
Thanks and enjoy your day!

ok right now you have the stock kernel - with XWKK2
so you dont see the yellow triangle....
now whichever way you use the "CF-Root-SGS2_XW_XEN_KK2-v5.0-CWM5.zip"..you will be actually flashing an insecure(read modified or custom kernel)..
so your binary counter will go up by one and continue increasing by one each time you flash any on the custom kernel or the complete ROM.
at the same time you will be gifted the yellow triangle at boot (search forum and its very easy to remove if you wish)
FYI
you can flash the stock kernel/firmware any number of times (the kernel can be from any region - avoid south east countries like china etc..it will complicate things)...
the binary counter wont increase(in fact it gets reset..i think not sure) and you also do away with the yellow triangle...
flash a custom kernel/ROM...again ...and all comes back...
i suggest invest 2-3 hrs searching the forum and you will find all answers with asking any questions...because whatever you are going to ask next...has been already answered..
Thanks for your clear answer It's not that I want to be lazy and just ask questions... Already spent a short period of time on the forum, but not all answers are from the same quality... That is why I'm asking the professionals directly and get additional info from the forum.
So again, thanks for your answer add it helps me to find the way in Android's world

I'm soon getting an SGS2 and I've had a search around the forums here and elsewhere, but I haven't found anything really conclusive, so here I am.
I want to root and run a custom ROM on my device. Mine will be brand new from Vodafone, so what is the first thing I should do? Any replies are much appreciated.

1. cf root
2. install a custom rom
3. unlock the sim on your phone using the app from the market
What does cf stand for?
Thanks for the reply, I was confused as to what order to do it all in!
Chainfire - it's the dev's username. You'll see a lot of great of stuff made by that guy.

Yes. You must wipe/factory reset before flashing a custom rom when coming from stock.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
My advice to you, read, read then read some more, if you don't even know what CF means, that is a sure indicator that you have not read enough.
If your interested in rooting, visit the Galaxy S II Original Android Development forum and read, trust me, it would be for your benefit that you understand exactly what you are doing, asking questions while doing it is not the way to go, things may go wrong (very rare), but it happens.
And everyone here has told you how to root but no one has mentioned the importance of the Backup of the EFS folder, it should be the first thing on agenda after rooting.
A couple of days reading the guides etc is far more valuable than a custom rom .
Unless you are one who belives its best to go blindly into the unknown .

I have heard of Chainfire, he was the first to root, right? I just hadn't head the abbreviation before. I'm reading non-stop before I do anything. I have a desire on 2.3, so I know my way around CWM. I still need to learn how to use KIES and ODIN. I certainly don't think going in blindly is the way to go at all. Not since this is an early upgrade anyway!
I've also seen a USB chip the resets the Samsung counter and removes the dreaded YTOD (Yellow Triangle Of Doom). Will I be able to remove that through any other way, ie splash screen/boot screen?

Hi guys sorry.if it is already posted.. I can't seem to find it..
(1) I am looking for an application, similar to camcard....
Which I can take a pic and covert it into text and save as a reminder or in Calender?
Is there any application tool that I can use it?
(2)And lastly, if I flash my sgs 2 to other firmware will it record down in the counter? Or it's only for rooted phone?
Thanks for enlightin me my bad if it's already posted before as I can't seem to find it..

1) I know what you're talking about, don't use many OCR apps on my phone, but by commenting, it will bump this thread back to the top for people to comment.
2) No, by flashing your phone to another STOCK firmware, it would not be recorded down, BUT if you flash a custom kernel THROUGH ODIN into it, it will. But easy, just buy a USB jig and you can easily reset the counter.

First off I see on this forum that people freak the hell out when you post something that may possibly have been posted at one point in the past, so let me assure you I've searched this forum and the internet in general looking for help with this problem, and found nothing helpful.
I read the FAQ, and the sections here:
I've rooted now why do I have an exclamation point on my loading screen?
Anytime you flash a non-stock kernel in download mode this will appear.
Work around method by Entropy512 to eliminate the exclamation on boot screen

Which linked me to a page that said:
Flash the stock kernel using Odin or Heimdall. Since this kernel autoroots the system image, you'll retain root.

Where do I get a stock Kernel? How exactly do I do this?
Then the next step says something that is completely greek to me, it doesn't seem to have much to do with fixing the Yellow Triangle problem.
I also scoured the internet looking for a fix and most of it involves the International version of the phone.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, I'd love to get rid of that annoying little triangle.

No, you clearly did not read the FAQ and all stickies in this forum as one should do whenever posting to a forum on the Internet, since not only is your question answered in the FAQ, there's an entire guide as a separate sticky post at the top of this forum!
this will get rid of the yellow triangle but will not reset the counter.

I absolutely DID read the FAQ.
My question is not answered in the FAQ, and if you would have read it, you'd know that.
I've looked at every sticky in the forum, the one at the top does not address this.
Can I get a link to the sticky? If it's the one posted below that doesn't help me either. I've already rooted and installed Cyanogen 7 on my phone, now all I need to do is get rid of the yellow triangle
I mean, would it have taken you as long to help me out as it did to come on here and yell at me? I read over the forums for hours, did google searches, so I came here.
Isn't this a place to get help? If so, why are there dickheads just trying to **** in your cereal here?
Thank you Defnow, that was extremely helpful.
It worked, I now have a splash screen with no triangle, but unfortunately it doesn't get any further than that. I now just have a black screen after the spash screen. Any ideas on how to remedy this?
Will using a jig get rid of the ROM and kernel I already have flashed onto my phone, or will it just remove the YT and reset the counter? I've been curious about this for a while now.

Please use the new ZergRush method to root your phone. It's much safer and does not require kernel swap or flash anything. It will not show YT because you didn't flash anything at all.
As for OP, you need read MUCH more before start doing things like flashing ROM or kernel. Take any shortcut will only put you in a fast track to brick(ed) land which from what I saw is exactly where you are now.

The issue is you rooted in a way that tripped the flash counter.
Which is discussed in the return to stock thread.
And flashing the *stock kernel* back will remove the yellow triangle. Or using a *usb jig*.
Which is discussed.
Your problem is you flashed cm7 before you fixed the yellow triangle issue. The cm7 thread states that it does not support the *stock kernel*. To flash the *stock kernel* would remove cwm, which removes the ability to use cwm (kinda obvious, I know. Just trying to educate the obvious noobs). And since there's no way to boot cm7 on the i777 with stock kernel, you'd be stuck and have to use download mode and odin to return to stock, as you would have no other options.
From the above information, all from existing threads, you have two options.
Option 1
Buy a *usb jig*. Undoes tripping the flash counter and gets rid of the yellow triangle.
Option 2
Use odin to flash back to stock, which will completely remove cm7. The flash counter will still be tripped.
Obviously the *usb jig* will be easier to use and will undo tripping the flash counter. Though it costs money, you have to wait for it to ship, and so far at&t has not been caring about a tripped flash counter.
Thank you for doing research before posting. Understand you read the answer and just did not get it. So when you post and say you've read the stickys and it's not covered, when we know it is, what are we to say? The information is in there. Literally there is a step by step write up dealing with removing the yellow triangle.

So... let me get this straight.
1. You didnt read the FAQs or stickies that CLEARLY fix/cure/answer your question.
2. Decided to post a thread asking how to get rid of the yellow triangle and for a stock kernel.
3. Didnt read or click on the two posts above this one (that Im quoting) that was posted 45 and 40 minutes before this post.
4. Decided to flame the ones that posted in this thread to help you by calling them "dickheads" and use a horrible analogy to sum things up.
Did I miss anything? You have been here for 9 months and only 4 posts (all of them in this thread) so Im assuming that you do reading here and not posting... so you should have read the FAQs and stickies at the top of the forums. Its not a good idea to flame people for trying to help you. Its not their fault that you didnt read what you were supposed to, or for not reading the two posts above yours that actually point you in the right direction.
Infraction issued due to flaming.

You need to flash the old bootloader (or use CF's app) to remove the triangle.
You won't get much help finding the old bootloader, despite the fact that all the links in the search results are currently dead. Instead, you'll get folks slamming you for asking the question.
Or you can use triangle away in the original development thread as oinkylicious hints above.
The yellow triangle gives your phone magical powers, why would you want to get rid of it?

The jig is safer. Even Chainfire himself acknowledges this and recommends it be used instead of his own app.
Personally, I'd rather have a link to the old bootloader too, but nobody's willing to provide one.

Just ask and you will get it. Below is the Old Bootloader to work with USB JIG.
Ok.. Thanks,,. Now I have the old boot loader..
What then?
Flash in ODIN ?
Flash in CWM ?
Will old bootloader make problems in LPQ rom ??
Flash it in the PDA or bootloader section of Odin (makes no difference which). No, shouldn't cause any problems with LPQ.
Flashing bootloader is very dangerous .. it will make your device mess if you fail flashing it
if u thank me then i will thank you ( 이 승 기 )
Hi.
Is there any search engine or program that we can insert the full rom letters(Like XEU-I9100XWLSW-20130530173418.zip) and bring us the best/latest/safest file that is offer ONLY root and nothing more.
And we can install to any s2 mobile from recovery menu?
google.com
Ha ha ha ....
Very funny....
Can you please answer with a SIRIUS answer.
Thanks
There is no such thing. Perhaps you could code an app like this ?
If you want to root your phone, choose one of the usual root methods.
Ok then.
Is there one root file that fit to any rom?
If doesn't then is there any root file for each rom version like
android 2.3.x
android 4.0.x
android 4.1.x
android 4.2.x
e.t.c.
If you're talking about CFRoot, you need to matchup the stock kernel you're currently running with the relevant CFRoot kernel as closely as you can (doesn't have to be an exact match tho; read the thread carefully), or you can flash the Odin version of a custom kernel like Siyah (read the first page of the relevant thread to work out which build you need to flash depending on which version of Android you're running). And there are root methods which don't involve flashing a kernel for some older Android builds. It's all in the General & Development sections.
No, there is not a 'one root file' to fit any rom.
What exactly is cfroot and what you earn if you install your phone that root file? Is there different cfroot file for every rom or it is the same?
And what is the difference with the simply root files?
Search (This is my final post to this thread).
WHY is you final post to this thread?
Are you so hard to explain to a newbie some things?
If it is so hard to you to explain some things to any newbie then you DON'T post at all to newbie people is so simple.

The Binary counter will get triggered if you flash anything unofficial, your only option is to either keep it or reset it, there are no super safe simple one click all firmware supported rooting app's, if you're too scared to do it then ask someone to do it for you, or better still keep stock.

Official Roms won't trigger the counter, and in JB for i9100 Samsung has enabled flashing signed zip file's from stock recovery (which can be used to root the device), in ics you should try rooting with exynos abuse(which is the easiest method), rooting anyway would trigger the binary counter.

This is not spoon feed central, If you want to learn at least have the ability to search and read first. Instead of asking what exynos abuse is and expecting people to try and explain it to you why dont you do something simple like type the words into google or search box at top of page??? Those will give you threads that have plenty of info for you.
