Binary counter reset - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there any other way to reset binary counter without USB JIG because i flashed ICS rom its not working properly so i revert back to official KJ3 rom. I used the USB JIG but its not reserting the binary counter is there any other way please help me...

Why is the counter bothering you so much, are you sending the phone back to samsung?

No, there is currently no other way. However, reverting to the older bootloader (see Intratech's stock ROM thread) should allow your USB jig to reset the counter.

Love the reading skills.

lol, didn't read, i think i just scanned the first comment and last. and if it didn't work buy a new one as your jig clearly is busted.

In that case, you're still failing at reading, as there's no reason to suspect his jig is faulty.

So has your jig failed to reset binary?? Some people get so damn ancy on these forums....

I just don't like people spreading nonsense, especially when the actual answer was given in post #3, by me (and then quoted and thanked by someone else in post #4. Wait, what?)
I'll just quote Intratech, maybe it'll start sinking in then.

It is not a bad thing, if you have no problems with your phone.
You can ignore the counting, but if you have a problem and need warranty service from Samsung, they will charge you for the repair as flashing or changing the firmware other then through official means i.e. kies, your warranty is considered null and void.
Phone repairs can sometimes be expensive.

It will if you use the firmwares from XDA OR use the workaround that we provide.
So there is no way to reset the counter when using the new bootloader yet, not even flashing through the jig (tried that, counter still up)?
Can any one tell me what is the exact specification of the resistance to make a jig . I have searched ebay it cost around 400k whereas i made the jig only for 12 rs . Its not working , i think there must be something wrong with the resistance rating .
Btw i used 2 ,150 ohm connected in series to another 1 ohm. The phone instead of going to dnld mode it boots to the main OS

Download the old bootloader from intratechs original firmware thread and flash with Odin. A few posts in from beginning of thread and available to download by itself.
Then you can use the jig.

Why it is so important to reset the count besides voiding the warranty?
Is the phone going to stop functioning after reaching xx number or is there a maximum number?

i dont think there is a limit. i think everyone just assumes there isnt.
I just want to be able to reset mine to 0 just in case i do have problems. atm i cant and would like to do it before i break it (i break lots of things)
Guys, try searching the site a little more.
install the insecure kernel with cwm you want
extract the zimage from this dump it on your internal sd
flash the stock kernel version back over it using odin (resets counter)
reboot to cwm and flash the zimage from within cwm no more counter / triangle

USB jig issue with 2.3.5

Hi guys i was gonna root my phone and was told it would be a good idea to buy a usb jig first incase something goes wrong but when i went to buy one it said it did not support 2.3.5 then i read that i can flash the the phone with a modified firmware which lets me use the usb jig, now excuse my ignorance because i am a noob and i'm trying to do all the research i can before i root my phone but am i wrong in saying that if something goes wrong while flashing this modified firmware and i brick my phone i cant use the usb jig to revive it?

No my friend, you wont brick your phone if you follows the instructions correctly mentioned on the thread. Regarding your query about USB jig, Its a nice tool, everyone should have one before proceeding with flashing ROM/Kernals
USB jig will help to :
1. To reset custom binary counter.
2. Removing the yellow triangle after flashing custom software
3. Getting to Download mode in case of soft brick
Version 2.3.5 onwards are packaged with New bootloader which doesnt allow you to use the bootloader. If you follow the Intratech thread on flashing ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278) and Chainfire thread for rooting (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278), you will not go wrong.
P.S Intratech packages all ROMS with old bootloaders, so you will be able to use USB jib.
All the best with Flashing and rooting . PM me if you have any concerns!
Hope this helps!
thanx for your help

If you are good at soldering, you can make one at home using a USB cable. Search the forum and you will find thread regarding making the USG Jib or purchase online or buy locally.

Thanx for the quick reply are there any others?
SensatioN Rom - very good one
i agree that the USB jig works good, i get one month ago and i used it many times on a galaxy S2. i had the case when i get over the version 2.3.4 to go to 2.3.6 so i used ODIN to go back to the down version then i went to CM7. From there i became a flash junkie, tried at least 10 different roms and each time i needed to reset the custom binary counter i putted at least the 2.3.4 how much more fun i can get with this game"galaxy"boy. So I'm very grateful for the great job the XDA team are making here! Thank's to ALL!
is there a really good video tutorial to show me exactly how to do it including how to get stock firmware and how to get back so the usb jig works again and where did you get your usb jig was it ebay?

[Q]Reason of update.zip not working in i9100?

Hi all, I have a question regarding the topic above.
I had google and browser through every sub-forum of samsung sII and others, but I still couldn't get my answer
As we know if you want to root your SII, you will need to flash the insure kernel file. Previously there is also a method using the zergRush, but unfortunately the new stock kernel is no longer working with it.
Back to the topic Like other samsung phone, for example galaxy Young, we can just copy an update.zip to the SD card and update through the phone (vol up+center+power).
My question is, why galaxy S2 unable to do this trick?

Because the .ZIPs need to be properly signed when using stock recovery.
Just flash a kernel with CWM recovery via Odin, problem solved. It's really easy.

Either make yourself or grab one off eBay for 3 bucks.
Besides, a custom count > 0 doesn't harm or effect the phone in any way.

He meant for you to make your own jig. All you need is a USB plug and ~301 ohms worth of resistors. Apparently 300 ohms works.

Actually you can root the phone and use CWM without increasing the counter.
I did it like this:
- Install any rom below 2.3.6 (I used 2.3.5)
- Root using Zerg rush method
- Install a custom kernel via mobile Odin (I installed Siyah kernel)
- Go to CWM and install a rom of your choice
My counter is at 0 and I am running a custom rom and kernel. Odin won't trigger any counters unless you flash an insecure kernel. Why mobile Odin doesn't increase any counters is beyond me but it works.
bpivk said:

Because it doesn't flash through the bootloader in download mode.
Technically it's not Odin increasing the counter, it the bootloader's downloadmode when it checks the signature of the kernel and it fails the check.
Mobile Odin is running as "normal executable code" on the phone and writes directely to the affected partitions, hence no counters or triangles.
nice information bpivk and HellCatDroid! this is a new idea for me =D
by the way, and idea on why the update.ini will not works for s2?

You need to flash the old bootloader (or use CF's app) to remove the triangle.
You won't get much help finding the old bootloader, despite the fact that all the links in the search results are currently dead. Instead, you'll get folks slamming you for asking the question.
Or you can use triangle away in the original development thread as oinkylicious hints above.
The yellow triangle gives your phone magical powers, why would you want to get rid of it?

The jig is safer. Even Chainfire himself acknowledges this and recommends it be used instead of his own app.
Personally, I'd rather have a link to the old bootloader too, but nobody's willing to provide one.

Just ask and you will get it. Below is the Old Bootloader to work with USB JIG.
Ok.. Thanks,,. Now I have the old boot loader..
What then?
Flash in ODIN ?
Flash in CWM ?
Will old bootloader make problems in LPQ rom ??
Flash it in the PDA or bootloader section of Odin (makes no difference which). No, shouldn't cause any problems with LPQ.
Flashing bootloader is very dangerous .. it will make your device mess if you fail flashing it
if u thank me then i will thank you ( 이 승 기 )

[Q] How to make the usb jig work on ICS I9100"G"

So I updated to ICS on my I9100G and now the usb jig does not work anymore,

The app is triangle away by chainfire, it should be available in the play store
Make sure you follow the guidelines in the app to avoid any problems!
