USB jig issue with 2.3.5 - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys i was gonna root my phone and was told it would be a good idea to buy a usb jig first incase something goes wrong but when i went to buy one it said it did not support 2.3.5 then i read that i can flash the the phone with a modified firmware which lets me use the usb jig, now excuse my ignorance because i am a noob and i'm trying to do all the research i can before i root my phone but am i wrong in saying that if something goes wrong while flashing this modified firmware and i brick my phone i cant use the usb jig to revive it?

No my friend, you wont brick your phone if you follows the instructions correctly mentioned on the thread. Regarding your query about USB jig, Its a nice tool, everyone should have one before proceeding with flashing ROM/Kernals
USB jig will help to :
1. To reset custom binary counter.
2. Removing the yellow triangle after flashing custom software
3. Getting to Download mode in case of soft brick
Version 2.3.5 onwards are packaged with New bootloader which doesnt allow you to use the bootloader. If you follow the Intratech thread on flashing ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278) and Chainfire thread for rooting (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278), you will not go wrong.
P.S Intratech packages all ROMS with old bootloaders, so you will be able to use USB jib.
All the best with Flashing and rooting . PM me if you have any concerns!
Hope this helps!

If you are good at soldering, you can make one at home using a USB cable. Search the forum and you will find thread regarding making the USG Jib or purchase online or buy locally.
Amazon link : http://www.amazon.co.uk/SAMSUNG-GALAXY-9001I-DOWNLOAD-MODE/dp/B004YIUIKG

They are available on ebay for as little as £1 from trusted sellers.

yes but what if i brick my phone while flashing it?

The chances that you will brick your phone by flashing bootloader are the same as you flash firmware.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App

my point exactly but if i do my phone is then duffed for good.
p.s. are there any good custom roms that still have touchwiz as i really like it.

I'm using Hyperdroid Androimeda rom. It is deodexed stock slightly tuned. Works like a charm. has TW

Thanx for the quick reply are there any others?

SensatioN Rom - very good one

i agree that the USB jig works good, i get one month ago and i used it many times on a galaxy S2. i had the case when i get over the version 2.3.4 to go to 2.3.6 so i used ODIN to go back to the down version then i went to CM7. From there i became a flash junkie, tried at least 10 different roms and each time i needed to reset the custom binary counter i putted at least the 2.3.4 how much more fun i can get with this game"galaxy"boy. So I'm very grateful for the great job the XDA team are making here! Thank's to ALL!

is there a really good video tutorial to show me exactly how to do it including how to get stock firmware and how to get back so the usb jig works again and where did you get your usb jig was it ebay?

[Q] Question about brick ?

i have a question for you guys what i have not
do for to get a cell phone brick ?
i have read many threads and the only way for to get it is by using application rom manager thats right or i can get a brick cell phone in odin software.
what if by a mistake set files in a wrong order in odin software
galaxy ace cf gingerreal v1.0 kph
thanks in advance
WHY would you put the wrong files in ODIN, just read the tutorial and follow it correctly?
And to kinda answer the question, what've read is that ODIN will not brick you phone, you might be able to get a bootloop though (just reflash and it should work fine).
Read the newbie guide(sticky thread) about Rom manager, it should be supported now but be cautious, better to use CWM app instead, or just reboot your phone to CWM (dont be lazy).
People brick their phone when unlocking their phone, there should be a proper solution that works without having to brick you phone.

[Q] Flashing my SGS2, what are the consequences?

Okay, i have a SGS 2 now for a couple of months, and i want to start flashing.
There are a couple of things i wanted to ask before i get started.
1. I heard about the USB-Jig... Am I right if i think that you need this to get
your phone fully back to stock for warranty reasons?
2. Is there a work-around for this JIG, so i dont have to buy it?
3. Is there some sort of EZ-base rom, like there was for the SGS?
I used that one everytime to get back to stock.. that way KIES recognized
my phone, and updated me back to latest rom.
I hope someone can help me underway flashing!
On my SGS i was a true flash whore, never knowing how long i would stay on one ROM. (most of the time just one day, and then trying out something different! )
Thank you guys in advance!
number one: Yes i do not have one but most people on here would suggest to buy it. You need to flash a stock rom yes then use the jig and it will just as you bought it out of the box.
number 2: Not really from what i have been reading. You can make your own jig but its only a couple of bucks so i say its a good investment
number 3 : do not know as i never used sgs. came straight from an iphone and never looked back
and if you want help with flashing let me know and i can give you some guides

Then to get rooted go to this thread read carefully and choose the cf-root kernel that you need flash it through odin and you be up and running. But the most important things are. Read the instructions carefully and second make a backup of your current rom

No
USB jig will put phone to download mode and on older bootloaders reset custom rom counter to zero .
2. Is there a work-around for this JIG, so i dont have to buy it?
No but you only need a jig to clear custom rom counter not to boot to download mode .
You require Original rom or stock rom flashed via Odin that will wipe root .
If the custom rom counter now shows any count you will require the usb jig if counter is zero you do not require the usb jig .

And to make things worse; In holland on THE selling-site-thingy,

CM7 great but if i was you id start with sammy roms and then move over the CM7

[Q] new, just bought samsung Galaxy S2 need help

Hi everyone.
I had just bought the new Samsung galaxy s2,
the attachment got the screenshot of version of my phone.
now I was doing lot of reading on this forum before I do anything.
then I decided to install this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1320328 rom to my phone.
now as far as I know that 1st step is to take backup of my contacts and phone data.
then copy the zip file to sd card and try to install this rom as per instruction but then I got confused about " Find the best modem for your network"
can somebody help me with this.
right now I don't know anything about android but I am quick Lerner.
can you explain me what this modem does. If I messed with it, will I be not able to connect wifi.
I had seen http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1277593 thread. but I dont know what is all about. If I get some idea them might I will understand more quickly..
thanks hoping somebody will help me.
You have an I9100T model phone.
What they are saying is that each user of their clean and simple Rom may have different results with different modems.
The linked modem thread has good info on users experience around the world and what works best in their region for their carrier, mainly for the I9100 model.
Many users in Australia are saying that the I9100T model works best with the modem that comes on the 'T' device.
Read that modem thread for more info and I think there is a link in there for the 'T' model modem thread. Also might help to check out the Australian thread. Heaps of I9100T users comments in there.
Good luck.
Edit: I believe WiFi is handled by the kernel not the modem. The modem is more for connection to your carrier.

Hi, welcome to the wonderful world of the SGS2!
Nice choice on first ROM to try out ;-)
first thing you need to do is root your phone and install clockworkmod and superuser. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278 is a really great guide and source of the knowledge. That thread is where I started from to learn the ways of android.
regarding the modem: this relates to mobile cell reception rather than wifi. Some different modems work better than others, latest is not always best. The modem can also be network carrier dependant.. Network 3 optimised have always been the best for me. Modems can be flashed and tested fairly easily once your accustomed to your rooted phone and using cwm(clockworkmod).
Hope this helps!
thanks for the reply guys.

1. The yellow triangle is present because you flashed a unofficial kernel. There is a way to remove it in the thread OR you can buy a jig off eBay and just plug it in.
2. Did you set the connection settingin the notification bar/ settings? You can also try to reinstall the drivers for your phone.

If you've already flashed a full package from elsewhere and cannot reset your binary counter using the Jig just flash this package in the PDA or Bootloader (Yes both will work) section of Odin to replace the bootloaders and then you can reset the counter:http://www.multiupload.com/LQQBRQVJUD

[Q] Rooting my phone ?

Hello everyone,
I'm new at android and everything so i would love to ask you developers (professionals) some questions.
First of all i would like to root my phone to get ICS but I'm kinda concern that i will lose my warranty. So the question is: "Is there any way to unroot your phone and get it back on official software (ROM)?" so i don't lose my warranty when i need some repairs or something.
Second questions is: "Can a failing at root damage my phone ?".
And third : "Can you recommend my some software, rom, or anything for rooting safely ?"
My spec :
Model number: GT-I9100
Android version: 2.3.4
Baseband version: I9100XXKI1
Kernel version: 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKI4-CL575467 [email protected] #2
Build number: GINGERBREAD.XWKI4
PS: Sorry for my bad English its not my native language.
PPS: Sorry if similar thread exist.
Make sure to ask questions in the Q/A section next time instead of the general.
1. You will lose warranty by rooting. You will have to reflash the stock rom and use a USB jig (you need to buy it) reset the counter. You could also just flash the ICS and flash triangle away which does the same as a USB jig, but its Highly recommened to use a usb jig.
2. Failing to root wont physically damage the phone, but can cause a brick. This phone is fairly hard to brick and it can be fixed by flashing stock roms using odin. (a usb jig can also help in this situation).
3. Flash this for root: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
Instructions are provided nicely and its rather easy to root with this. You do also have some other options of one-click root if you wish.

Why would you want to root your phone to get ICS? You don't need root to install ICS.
If that's your only reason for rooting, don't.
Official ICS is coming this month, so id just wait for it if this is the only reason for rooting your phone.

Personally if you just want ICS I would just wait until it officially comes out. No need to void your warranty . Word of advise if you do decide you want to root one day ALWAYS look for a method to reverse it.

totally agree! as i mentioned definetely try out resurrection rom by Westcrip!
Nice to hear that this ROM work so well ...
Nice to hear that this Resurrection ROM (and many other) work so well ...
But ... It's simply to difficult and risky for newbies like me (and a lot other i could imagine)
I have decided to wait for official Samsung ICS firmware and maby get root when some nice tool like Easy Rooting Toolkit [v4.0] (zergRush Exploit) or OneClick Root becomes available ...
And BTW I don't think TouchWiz is that bad at all.
Only reason for me to get root, was getting rid of some Samsung bloatware.
Wow a question in the general section.
I think @Houselegend want to change ROM because of same reason like me. ICS comes out for few days, yes, but in our countries we must wait for our operators to get update. I don't know how much we will wait, but we expect about 2-3 months!
I can't stay more on stock, it's boring and battery duration is very short.
So, if is simple to get back on stock ROM, unroot and reset counter, why not play with custom ROMs?

There are a few threads on how to get back to the stock rom. To reset the counter u have to use a usb jig (u can buy one, those are really cheap) but there may be some apps out there to reset the counter but i think the sinpliest and most secure way is to use a jig! But why do u need to get back to the stock roms?

I got Check Fus but there are no my network on that list.
Bosnia and Hercegovina m:tel
EDIT:
I just found my Product Code
GT-I9100RWASMO
Will that help me with anything ?
PS:
I didn't root my phone yet or anything so i am able to do my own backup of everything ? So i can restore it to official if i need to and then use USB Jig to hide everything ?

Bricked after factory reset, I can't even see CWM. Help!

So the thing is I'm using ROOTBOX ICS rom, and because I'm willing to gift my phone to a cousin I did a Factory Reset, then my phone turn off and when it tries to wake up, after Samsung logo, it makes like a blink on the screen... every 3 seconds.
I can't enter CWM Recovery using VolUp+Menu+Power, however I can enter Download Mode using VolDown+Menu+Power.
So guys, give me a solution here please.
Thank you so much.

Thank you SO MUCH for your quick answer.
Correct me if I'm wrong. This post helps me? Check in ICS part, he advice to download a firmware (which I think is a stock one), then a kernel, and Odin.
Thanks again.
I've had that problem already. Check the thread link below and get the stock firmware for your device and flash it with Odin.

If you don't want to flash a stock ROM, root, and flash a custom ROM again, you can use one of odin flashable files for custom kernels, not all have one but you can check (Dorimanx for example)

If the usb jig is not working then your only option is jtag or else motherboard replacement. Your best bet is to come clean to Samsung and hope that they give you a replacement
