Grand Theft Auto 3 - HTC Flyer, EVO View 4G

Just released in thearket. For 4.99. Wondered if any flyer owners had tried it and found it working. Can't decide if i wanna spend the money for it or not. esp if I don't know yet if it works on this device. Anyone?

I think this is the most frustrating part of Android. I have an LG Optimus 7, which runs WP7, and every app on the marketplace works. I have an HP Touchpad and every app works as well.
On my Android HTC Flyer on the other hand, its a crapshoot. Certain apps start, then consistently force close (i.e. XDA's app) and others start and don't work (i.e. HBO Go). If Android is going to consistently have these problems, they at least need to a try before you buy system.

+1 agreed.
Miss my wp7
Mite wait for wp8 to come out before I try another one tho.

I'm going to give it a try. Downloading SD files right now. Let u kno if it works

I wouldn't waste your money, the app isn't supported and by the release notes from rockstar it's not going to be.

Works with low lags on my HTC Flyer 3G with HC & on my Xperia Play with GB
Booth Devices are official not supportet

Yeah it works pretty good on my WiFi Flyer running Westfire HC rom

Most apps allow you to receive a refund within 15 minutes of purchase, some are longer. Pretty good TB4YB if you ask me.

Good news everyone... GTA is working great on my Flyer I have HC though, but it should work just fine on GB too

Well thank the Lord Jesus for that, now we can rest.

Now when I try to download the app it just says incompatible with your device. Same on my cellphone. Is there any way to persuade the android market to let me get it anyways?

Flyer 3g 32GB
It forces reeboots for me either since 1.2 or with HC official
It was running without problems on FlyHoney HC-rc
reeboots with lee and cool HC ROMs
in the intro before the breakout on the bridge
when i skip intro 3 minutes into the game
everytime - with graphcs mod, too
is it working with you guys?

After a futile wait for GTA in the market for the View (works great on Droid 3, Razr and Thrive), I went ahead and used my Titanium back up from my Razr to side install it. Works fine on my View
Update:
I do notice that as far as speed, I can rank GTA 3 on my devices as follows:
1. Razr
2. Droid 3
3. Thrive
4. Flyer/View (For games and emulators prior to this, was Razr level or better).
Either the dual core tech is being leveraged, or the game is not yet optimized with the Scorpion chipset. The game is noticeably less smooth on the Flyer and View. It is so distant, perhaps 4 should be blank and 5 is the correct place (The other devices are smooth). Does great though for every app and game, up to this point.

OnLive Viewer Update Available Now!

I just checked my Flyer for an update and OnLive Viewer just popped up. After a quick download, I created an account and poked around a bit. I was unable to play any free trials but I would assume functionality is just around the corner. This tablet is getting better and better everyday. A couple of screen captures:

Is this a free apk?
If not, where did you get it?
Thanks!
Someone get a hold of that APK and remove any device requirements
I want this on my Xoom & OG!
APK !!!!. I'll try and port it to the nook color
please extract .apk HTC Flyer OnLive Viewer and put in this page for other android htc users ,
with titanium app or other you can save your apps installed .
extract and put it please
This might seem against yhe spirit of xda but..... Can we not port the apk. I would like to see some more official development on this unrootable device that i paied to much money for. This would effectively kill onlive for the flyer. Atleast wait until games are playable as this is only a viewer and only about as cool as just in tv

You must be joking. Since when is the "MY DEVICE HAS IT, EVERYONE ELSE **** OFF" mentality ever been a good thing? Android isn't supposed to have these idiotic exclusive applications, that's why the OS was so carefully designed to make applications compatible everywhere.
I'm really looking forward to someone ripping an apk... please?
+1. I'd love to have the apk. I could probably bypass the device check if it has one.

You, sir, are amazing! Works great on HTC Evo 4G. Still need to test it on my Transformer.
I installed it on my Nook Color running Cyanogen and it works perfect.
Thanks, that's awesome, it works on the Droid X, though the graphics are a little muddy. I'm a big fan on OnLive though I can't wait to see future Android updates.
Unfortunately not working on Sprint Hero running GB 2.3.4.
Installs, but force closes every time you attempt to open it.
Hi guys,
I've tested it on the Transformer and it is a no go. After looking at the logcat, it appears to be using a compiled .so, so it should only run on similar platforms to the Flyer. I'm somewhat shocked it works on the Droid X, bt I suppose the architectures are similar enough to work.
Disappointing. OnLive has said they want to aim for end of 2011 for a full tablet launch, including gaming. I can't see why it is taking them so long .
works just fine on my android HD2 but not on my dell streak 7
Thank you for the .apk you just made my day
Works on dhd as well as flyer

Works on my original DROID and HTC Thunderbolt too.

Scummvm on android

For any people who miss the old pc point and click adventure games like maniac mansion, Monkey Island 1-3, Day of the Tentacle, Sam & Max, King's Quest 1-6, Space Quest 1-5,Discworld 1 and 2, Simon the Sorcerer 1 and 2, Beneath A Steel Sky, Lure of the Temptress, Broken Sword 1 and 2, Flight of the Amazon Queen, Gobliiins 1-3, The Legend of Kyrandia 1-3 etc.
There is an app that works on android that will let you play these right on your atrix get it here. http://www.scummvm.org/ then go grab the add ons found in the market.
This has been around for awhile but I wasn't sure how many people knew this actually worked on our phones. I've tested a good portion of these and most work. I even had 7th guest running on this at one point!! The only thing that was off slightly was the sound.
And don't forget Full Throttle

Congratulations on your purchase, Tuust me, you wont be disappointed with the tablet. What size Google TV did you get? I have the 24 incher set up in my office. Thought about the larger one for the living room, but couldnt go back to 60Hz from 240 - Ended up getting the GoogleTV Bluray player instead, so I could keep my existing tv and still get the GTV on it.
you will not regret the purchase
its my first tablet too
the remote is realy dominating ...some users wishes macros feature ...but for me is enough
next step for me is to purchase the one and other oldsk00L psx game ...
hope they will release a resident evil part ..
After a couple of days with the tab seems to lag a bit and not that much faster than my cm7 evo.

Time for a new tablet

Had my HTC Flyer about 10 months and since the arrival of Honeycomb has not performed very well.
I dislike Honeycomb a lot as it has slowed down the tablet, removed the built in keys which I liked and Gingerbread was much more stable.
I'm in the process of saving up for a new tablet and will probably get one in a couple of months.
I'm thinking of a Google Nexus because of the price and spec but not sure yet.
..anyone got any suggestions as to what I should move on to?

I bought the View in January and initially loved it. It began to get really slow and buggy and I was bummed about not getting updated past HoneyComb, so I decided to get the Nexus 7 as well. I love it! I've had it about 2 weeks without any issues at all. It runs circles around the View. I haven't really been bummed about the lack of a sd card yet (I have a 50gb Box.net account so I can store all my titanium backup files there and get them when I'm connected to wifi). I honestly can't ever see myself preferring the View over this thing. My phone has a camera so I really don't need one on my tablet.
Anyways, take it for a spin and then just go with the device you prefer. There's nothing technically wrong with the View/Flyer, its just a bit older and slower.
I think I'm gonna do the same. The Flyer is dead in the water. It's best to move on now. It happens guys. This was probably the best tablet hardware at the time. Good camera, screen, internal memory etc. But the world has moved on. & so has Android & HTC. I still have a year left on my contract, but I don't mind swapping for a Nexus tablet. Will just try get some parts to refurbish the scratched & dinged bits, & pass it onto my nephew. Its still in good knick, even after my soapy water bucket incident

I'm debating between that, and the Galaxy tab 10.1 because it has the S-pen. I used the pen on my flyer a lot but with the 2.7 being shipped with a keyboard that's hard to pass up. And for a reasonable price too.
The only thing that steers me away is that 1ghz dual core processor.
Is there a 7 inch tab out there that is really so much better then flyer thats worth to change it? Looking at nexus i am loosing SD slot, 3g, pen, and posibilities for some stupid bugs.
Looking at Samsung Galaxy 2 7.0 looks nice, was holding it and fits heand better then flyer, nice boddy work but - is it really so much better then Flyer to pay 350€ for 3g version in Europe.
All just couse of ICS/JB? For me prolly more time must pass b4 ill switch. Still hope we can get some more fixes on ICS / JB roms we have until then GB stil works very nice for me.

Well I think it really just depends on what the user uses the tablet for. If you are still happy with your flyer, no quarrels, then why not just keep it? I would say that the dev scene is still pretty active, we have some pretty awesome people working on JB/ICS for us.
My flyer's screen is broken so I'm looking for a new tablet. I go to college and take a lot of notes so the Gtab 2.7 that comes with the keyboard is pretty ideal for me. That'd be much easier than lugging my laptop around everyday. You could even use a mouse with the USB adapter. Like I said, it all just depends on what you use your tablet for.

I just cut my losses for a nexus and 3 weeks in I have no regrets. It's fast as hell, and build quality is good imo. Don't have the screen lift issue, no issues other than occasional screen flicker which I hesitate to even call an issue and the fact people are making warranty claims over it makes me sick. It's very rate and is over in half a second, and software related from what I hear.
Unless you have to have the features your loosing like a rear camera, sd slot, mhl, and vibrate then it's worth it

Well I've finally got another tablet after much thinking and gone with the iPad 2.
Although I love Android, I wanted something completely different to dabble with, different size, different OS.
I liked the Flyer on Gingerbread, it was fairly fast but Honeycomb totally killed the tablet (thanks HTC for making me feel like I have spent a lot of money on a slow overpriced brick)
Other reasons for going to iPad2 :-
In my opinion there's not really any half decent 10" Android tablets about, the Samsung is cheep looking in my opinion, I don't like touchwiz and the speakers on the front look stupid.I don't want an Asus transformer because that also looks cheap and as for the keyboard dock - I've got a laptop.
Sorry if I've I missed out any other relevant contenders.
Anyway, I'm happy with my purchase, I use tablets for gaming and browsing so as card slot not a problem as I don't put music and videos on them.
The games are very fast.
I'll probably not be using the Flyer very much now (if at all) pity really because it was good before Honeycomb.
By the way, I'm still using Android on my Sensation XE so I'm not a complete traitor

I considered picking up an ipad but apple's insistence to limit true freedom and app compatibility holds me back. Stupid things bother me with Ios, like no way to set default browser, terrible YouTube app, no purchases through nook or kindle app, reformatting every music file, no native flash, apps like dropbox are useless, etc. Ios products try to force you to consume more from apple every step of the way, which is crazy considering how much I would pay to get the device.
Flyer
I did have my doubts with the iPad (less freedom etc) but I'm enjoying using it and its a pleasant change.
Maybe I'll go back to an Android tablet in a couple of years when something more worthy is on the market.
As for my phone, sticking with Android

Once the pen, you'll always look for that. Therefore the only best option is Samsung GN2 10,1 (N8000). But that's not 7" and indeed 10,1" and the res is 1280x800. Still far the best replacement.
I'll tell you what I'd highly recommend the Galaxy tab 2 7.0 to any flyer owner who didn't care about the pen but wasn't able to deal with the sacrifices on the nexus. It's a great tablet, it's fast, and has all the features, and Samsungs support has been awesome for it, not to mention cm10 development is well under way, and official jelly bean is due to drop any day for it.
The only thing you really loose with it is built in storage but it does have an sd slot.

Stil love mine flyer
So mine gf changed mobile operater and got Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 very cheap offer - so we decided to simply take it. Playing around with it onlly gain is it has ICS ower mine Flyer wich is stil on GB. I got to pick either to take SGT2 or keep Flyer. I am keeping mine flyer really . Why? Since i really see no advantages onlly in OS and i do loose some on camera storage pen,.. But it is indeed nice tab and soon to get OTA JB.
Edit:
and no coment on BATTERY life - its awfully compared to Flyer on GB.

Should I sell my touchpad and buy the Nexus 7?

Here's my answer to the same question, on another thread : Personally, I wouldn't, but that's me.
If that's what you want, go for it.
I like the ability to change from webos to android, but then I really like webOS."
Since you don't like webOS, and aren't satisfied with the android experience on the TP, then I would say 'go for it'.
My android runs well, and I find webos an excellent os, it just lacks the apps android has.
What are the benefits of moving from a CM9 device with a working flash browser and large internal storage to a 8 or 16 gig Nexus 7.
For me there is no killer app or feature that justifies the need to move. Having tried JB I'm really not that fussed.
Yes, development has slowed but CM9 is more than adequate on the Touchpad. I would wait for the next Android OS upgrade and the next nice bit of kit to be released.

The quad core processor on the n7 goes a long way, as does the "built for android" aspect. Them there's jelly bean, and the higher resolution display.. The list goes on and on. I'm considering doing the same thing. My One X has a tegra 3 chip like the nexus 7 and provides a much better android experience.

personally i cant stand a smaller screen. the one on the touchpad is as small as i could tolerate. if you do a lot of traveling the 32gb could come in useful if you want to store larger files/more files etc.

To be honest storage is THE ONLY reason that has kept me from doing that yet. If google had a 299 for 32gb id be gone already. DOnt know why they dont even have that already
You guys crack me up, talking like storage space and screen size are the only factors in choosing a tablet. Our touchpad only gets used for web/forum browsing, etc. when our livingroom laptop is in use, so I couldn't care less how much it has. We've got phones, computers, media center, etc. for media...don't you? What the heck are you storing on that thing that needs so much space?

+1 and its a handy bedside TV , news reader and all round entertainment center. Its also great to take on holiday as it not as bulky as even my smallest laptop.
I use plex to stream my movies to my touch pad so I hardly use any space whatsoever on my touch pad. Though for whatever reason the speaker in my touch pad recently just crapped out on it. It crackles really bad.

It comes down to personal preference!
I came from a og galaxy tab. I was really glad about the larger screen. I also have the 32 GB version.
Sure its only got cm9, I would like a more functional jelly bean ROM, but as it stands there isn't anything wrong with it.
Tbh, I think the touchpad holds up well even against the honeycomb tablets. And from that respect, the nexus 7 is only a "one gen" ahead of the touchpad.
I won't give up mine, mostly cause I love the touchstone charger, and its not like the touchpad was a bad deal to start with. I would however change to a nexus 10 if that ever gets made.

Depends on what you are doing with the touchpad.
If you need a tablet with a long battery life -> change to the Nexus 7
If you need a small, light weight tablet -> change
If you want play the newest games with bombastic graphic -> change
If you want to be up-to-date with your Android Version, even if you dont know what the difference to the previous version is -> change
If you want to make Skype Calls with a working camera -> change
Maybe 1-2 more Points.
If you are using your TouchPad just at home to surf the web, read mails and check the weather, like I do, than stay with the TouchPad. Even if the development died finally, CM9 like we have it now, and the hardware of the Touchpad, will be more than enough for the next 1-3 years.
The only thing that could force me to change would be a Nexus 7 7" or 10" with 3G for less than 300€.
i don't think there is still a lot of people want a used touchpad, considering that a new 32 gb playbook is 100 dollars now
You might hold off shortly to see what happens with Openmobile. If it comes out this month as expected the best of both worlds will come together.

Just got the nexus 7 this weekend and loving it. It is definitely feeling small right now, but I'm getting used to it. The speed is awesome, even blows my gnex out of the water.
