Prime Keyboard dock - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

For those in the US who get thier Prime and dock before UK does can you please let us know if there is any lag typing on the dock like there was with some people on TF101.
Thanks

i think a lot of the lag has to do with ****ty ass honeycomb, it should be lessened significantly (hopefully) with ICS.
but i will let you know when i get them.
are you looking for the lag anywhere specifically? browser? specific app?

PRIME - poor performance

Well am disappointed. I was watching on youtube some nvidia trailers indicating how smooth www browsing will be. well - bull shi.....!
On my prime browsing is still laggy as it was on TF101. I even think it is worse than it was on TF101.
Maybe it will be better on ICS but right now many apps freezes (youtube, google earth).
Also switching between apps is soooo laggy and takes few secs!
If I have known this I would never sell my TF101...
I feel cheated by nvidia and asus. Really. Especially when I think my Prime creaks in two places...
Am I alone here?
PS - oh and on Riptide GP there are few moments when I can feel the drop in fps...
Remember, you bought an item when it first came out. there are always bugs. Yes, you'd think that they'd fix something like that, but they were intentionally trying to release in time for the holidays. Just wait for some developing to be done or for an update

I agree that browsing in the stock browser was terrible when I first got the tablet. And I mean *terrible*. Out of the box, it was really, really bad. But then I took one of the suggestions made by a thread here to change some options in the stock browser, and now it works perfectly well. Of course, I use Opera Mobile anyway, and the browsing on that is smooth.
I've played Riptide GP and Shadowgun, and both are very smooth with no stuttering or anything.
Overall my tablet performs pretty darn well, but yes, there are occasional random stutters between applications etc., which can be irritating. But transitions between screens, opening the app drawer, etc. are very smooth. Even with HD live wallpaper.
Sir, please bring it back or something:

Actually, I know the browser in ICS uses hardware acceleration. Does the browser in Honeycomb do this too? I don't think it does. If this is the case, we should see a noticeable improvement in ICS on the TP.

I don't have my Prime yet so I can't verify any of this, but I've read numerous reports of Opera Mobile being better than the stock HC browser on the Prime. However, apparently changing the settings helps:

I do hope you (Orion66) have a replacement on order... especially if your prime is creaking! My second HTC Thunderbolt (first one had dead pixels as soon as I turned it on) had a screen-creaking issue, just like you described with the Prime. Took it back, got it replaced.

These settings work. Browsing is great. I love my prime. I haven't used my iPad 2 since it arrived. Horray foe being free!

Yep ICS will make this an entirely new tablet IMO.I've watched videos of the galaxy nexus running ICS outperform the IPhone in browser tests! So just wait a bit before bashing the prime.Asus even wanted it to ship with ICS.

Seriously! My GPS doesn't work and I have minor screen bleed, so I am going to try and exchange it for a new one. Mine doesn't even see one satellite. I know I got a dud, but I don't go creating numerous threads about it. Take your Prime back and get a new one and report back your results. Until then, we all know that your pissed you received the ultra dud, we have your opinions and we will take it with a grain of salt along with all of the other reviews.
Can you please post a video of the terrible performance!?
So glad I just cancelled my order...I'm also sorry I sold my TF101 for this piece of ****e!
I am getting really tired of seeing these threads. HoneyComb is crap even google said so. No matter what hardware its on it runs like crap and always will. ICS will be out soon and the Prime will be smoking fast.

You pay $500. You get a device that isn't working good. Why he doesn't have the right to complain? If Honeycomb was so **** they should have wait till they got ICS working on the Prime, not rush the freaking thing out half working.
not to sound like a douchebag, but all these posts are starting to be humourous. Its Amazing how me n several others sit hereby read all these issues, yet we experience non of them really. aside from GPS, which Asus has already came out n claimed they dropped the ball on basically. not a deal breaker for me. but all this lag, fps drop, creaking of screen, etc...sounds kind of crazy to me because my device is basically perfect. I have an Ipad n this thing is way faster and smoother, for the most part. if my prime had a creaking issue, I'd send it back immediately. instead of coming up here. xda can do nothing for you if device screen or something not put on right. instead of wasting energy complaining online, take that same energy and send the &#!? back for another one. or if you so displeased then get your money back. plain n simple. that's what I don't get aboutslot of these people up here. must be kids or something. Because i know if my device was as defective as some making it seem, I been would've exchanged it or gotten it taken care of. no one is denying your issues.
just get your priorities in check. if my $500 device isn't workn right, fu#& posting up here, I'm going straight to the store or whatever to exchange it. or get money back...DAMN. its that simple.
in just saying...lmfao. sorry you having the bad experience. I'm not gonna let others detract from my great experience I'm having with it though.
plus another thought, not towards the op, some people are obviously looking for something to be wrong with device. if they believe it enough without really putting it through its paces, then self manifestation will produce a faulty device. people without major issues still outnumber those with them.

Mine will be here Tuesday, I bought it for the HW knowing that HC sucks and that ICS will be on it soon, or it will be rooted soon and we can run custom roms. So either take it back and get your money back and go jump on the apple bandwagon or STFU and wait for a software update to fix the lag issues.

Lol? Sure, will fix the GPS too right? I don't like Apple, but if they release something they do it good, Asus could take Apple as an example how to release (and build..) something.

I'm not denying the problem your just being the biggest retool ever it doesn't work it won't work don't likeit gets new tablet it will never work you have to deal with it

[Q] Defective unit, or does this tablet just suck

Finally got my prime after so much stress and work. Was so EXICTED.
First off the bat, I noticed it was kinda sluggish. Maybe I expected too much oh of it but when switching to portrait mode from landscape, it could take up to 3 seconds and shudder (unlike my iPad 2).
The browser was SO slow oh my god. Went side by side with my iPad 2 and the iPad 2 destroyed the prime. Often times the prime would just give up half way through loading the page and I had to click refresh.
What's up with the keyboard? I've been typing on tablets for so long and am really fast. Often times when I typed something, the prime didn't recognize me clicking space and words were mashed together. Almost never have had this problem before and it was common on the prime.
The native books app is TERRIBLE. I had this 500 page PDF I wanted to read and got it on my prime. The books app would freeze up and take up to 10 seconds sometimes to load the next page! Thankfully I went to the android market and found a third party one.
Overall, even with ICS, it doesn't feel as snappy or responsisive as iOS (and trust me, I HATE giving apple credit). I can't see myself actually achieving a task on this, like typing something up or looking up something with the slow browser. It didn't have smooth enough transitions and I hated to see it shudder.
So yes I am SO upset. I don't even want to recap the trouble and time input to finally getting one of these. Either you suck Asus, my unit is messed up(doubtful), or I have been spoiled with iOS and android is second rate. Thank you
Ok, I'll bite:

that is odd - are you using a live wallpaper? if so that can happen sometimes. Also can you tell if its happening with specific apps or the entire tablet? that happens to me every time I use the Best Buy app and a few others - its the apps fault. But it could be your tablet. There is also a setting to look for that you can tell the tablet to auto detect orientation or to force ti one way ot the other - double check what that is set at

The stock browser sucks. get Opera Mobile. It is free. The stock browser is better with ICS now. I ditched the stock browser after 2 days and this is my 4th android device in less than 4 years and I've never switched browsers until now. This appears to be common but easily reolved by using another browser (no different than using Chrome in stead of IE on your PC for example

The default keyboard is Swype I believe. Check out it's swype feature, it's pretty cool. You trace works instead poke out letters. LOTS of keyboards to choose from. I recommend SwiftKey x for Tablets

I kinda like the default reader, but I have a nook so I have a library there and therefore prefer to use that app. This tablet also come preloaded with the Kindle app. All of those eReader apps are free. and they all work slightly different. Find one you like and then stick with that one. Check out free book samples while you are testing them.
- also have you rebooted after you installed ICS? I mean a nice long and slow shut down, walk away, come back later, turn it on, walk away, don't touch it, and then let it load back up....no touching for 15 minutes? t=That s no science but just a recommendation from past experience flashing roms and OSs etc.

something is not right for it to be THAT bad. I wouldn't expect a brand new, less than one month old release of a new tablet and only one day into a brand new OS to prefer anywhere close to iOS. Ever. If Apple is due credit where they are due - for $800+ someone can walk away with a beautiful tablet that is nearly flawless It sounds like something is slowing your way down, really bogging it. Have you tried killing the tasks (there is a widget fot that now, and rebooting? You could try that before you do the longer walk away reboot. You could also get OS Monitor and see what is hoggin on your CPU.
So yes I am SO upset. I don't even want to recap the trouble and time input to finally getting one of these. Either you suck Asus, my unit is messed up(doubtful), or I have been spoiled with iOS and android is second rate. Thank you
Noting you mentioned is related to hardware so it is not Asus. If you've never used Android then you probably =bly aren't familiar with the variety of settings you can change and ways you can tweak things to help youself trouble shoot some of these problems. I hear you there buddy about the PIa of getting one of these to begin with!! took me over 3 hours on the phone just to get my ordered changed even though I had an email with exact instructions on how to do it. Apparently they didn't tell the CSRs how to do it.Did you get yours from Best Buy? If so, yo are probably still within your 30 days return period. You could return out and wait for a new arrival exchange unit to come in.

Personally it ALL sounds HW related to me...
OP....If the tablet was up to the task you would be getting better performance.
Yes, there seems to be some happy people out there but as it's been PROVEN that there are MAJOR problems with the TFP.. I'd be more than likely to say it's because these people have a high threshold for putting up with garbage, rather than them experiencing less problems than everyone else.
If you dislike spending good money afte bad on HW that [email protected] WORK PROPERLY then yeah.. go ahead, buy it.. but if you like value for money.. kick it to the kerb.
I have read up on this constantly for the past 2 months... TBH, this tablet is a piece of ****.

Do you have one? No? Then you should probably stfu...lol. It is a great tablet and has really good hardware. The only known HW issue that I am aware of is GPS. The Prime is a great piece of technology and I am no fanboy. It has issues but nothing like what you mention or what the OP mentions, IMO. If the OP is having that type of trouble they describe then I recommend returning it because that is not the experience i have had at all.
The stock browser, btw, is better than Opera Mobile on ICS. It was crap on HC though.
android sucks lesson learned
I thought your OP seemed a little trollish. Now we know you are a big A fanboy that came to enlighten the Android faithful about the second coming of Jobs. Thanks. We weren't aware that Android was completely inferior to iOS. Now that we know I am sure we will all sell our devices and get in line at the closest Apple store.
Really though for what it's worth, I think Apple is great for a lot of people. I would recommend it to my wife now that Sprint has the iPhone even. It will probably be her next phone. She will probably have an iPad at some point even. So, I'm not sure why there has to be such a divide.
That said, I really can't imagine what would possess someone to create an account on XDA and pretend that their Prime is worse than their iPad 2 just to put out the idea that Android is ass. BTW, most of us have so much experience with this OS that even if it was complete ass we would be so used to the smell that it wouldn't bother us to be all nose deep up in it. Luckily that isn't the case. I know you want it to be. You really wish it was. But..
Android is a great platform with a ton of great developers. Now that Jobs is dead, Apple is likely destined to go back to where it was just before he rejoined their ranks. It's going to take a lot longer now because of all of the iOS worship though.
Anyway, I hope you find a buyer for your Prime if you ever had one. Thanks for letting us know that all of this Android development and enthusiasm is for not. I can't believe I wasted this much time on it...whew. Thanks again. You are awesome. You look really cool with those white headphones too. Sick. I love it. Later el f*cko.
I crack a little smile every time I read such glorious, intelligent, well thought-out posts!
I would say return it for sure. No reason to stick with it and be disappointed.
Have people lost their ability to criticize products without sounding like they just came out of the womb (not talking to you OP, but some of the other thread commentators in this thread)?
Unfortunately I've had the exact same experience as the OP with the Prime I bought to replace my Ipad2. I'm severely disappointed in the performance, especially the stock browser. I know people say to download a browser from the market, but do they really expect all customers to do that? That is their solution?

Looks like there are apple fanboys in our forum again desperate to find something to gloat about. they are like hawks and troll this forum to tarnish this product as much as possible. They are scared that Apple may finally lose its marketshare now that there are MUCH better options. Don't be fooled by them!:
I find it sad that anyone that questions this tablet is immediately branded an apple fanboy.

I'm not on the apple fanboy-branding bandwagon either; I've used iPads, iPhones, and own an iMac. My better half has an iPhone, and it just plain works - period. The iPhone just works, while I sit around tinkering with aftermarket android apps, changing themes, flashing ROMs which might or might not work. So you won't see me criticizing love for Apple. It's fair to compare the two. But there's a mature and constructive way to criticize.
The second response to this post had the phrase "TBH, this tablet is a piece of ****." Wow, what a revelation! Could we scrape the bottom of the barrel anymore when it comes to intelligent observations about the tablet? The OP says it's possible his unit is messed up, but he says 'doubtful'. The title of his thread includes "or does this tablet suck." We are on a TFP forum. Come on. My tablet runs well. I have extensive experience with iPads and other tablets. The TFP runs beautifully for me; and now with ICS, the stock browser is fine. So YES, your tablet is probably messed up in some way or another. Or I just got some lucky batch that performs above and beyond yours.
I understand that others are not having the same experience and are frustrated, but I would take advantage of their retailers return policy and return/replace the tablet. I've already had to replace mine. I'm debating seriously about returning it in order to get one of the newly announced CES tablets. But you won't see me typing half-assed, dumbed-down posts that are clearly written to stir up the pot.
My personal experience
I've had my Tranformer Prime maybe close to 8 months.
Now it's running JB 4.1.1 Stock ROM which was updated OTA.
I do find this tablet rather sluggish. Switching from one app to another takes a few seconds.
Moving from one page to another when viewing PDF files is a chore! I do personally feel it's hardware issues. Not so sure whether it'll be solved by rooting and changing ROMS but I do find myself using my Note2 more often than my tablet just because the latter is super fast!

I was also having problems with mine after the ota and called customer support to find out about doing a factory reset, whereupon they said they were aware of problems and that it needed to be returned and flashed by them. It was picked up on Monday and is in repair now.

I'm confused. So there IS a problem with the OTA update to JB? Why send it back? Can they ie ASUS do something about it?
Can't you do the factory reset yourself?

They said some people are having a problem and that me doing a factory reset would not sort it but they could, hence them asking me to return it for them to reset. If you explain that your problems have occurred since the ota I would hope that they would recall it and at the very least test it after their service.
I hope this helps, I will post again after I receive it back, which hopefully will be a couple of days after easter.

I hard reset mine several times and for me it didn't make a difference but no harm in trying.
Back using my HP TouchPad which is smooth but much heavier and without the same aspect ratio for video or HDMI out and of course the advantages of the dock. So I am looking forward to getting it back.

Disappointed with my Prime

So after a couple of months of research, i decided to go ahead and spend $500 for a new Transformer Prime, thinking it was the coolest and fastest tablet out there. The fact that it runs android and that i can root it and load custom roms on it was just an added bonus. I've had an E4GT for about six months now, so im very familiar with the android community.
However, after about a week with this tablet, im very disappointed. wifi, to be quite honest, sucks, the stock browser locks up for no reason all the time, the whole pad gets really hot when i simply watch a movie on netflix with the brightness turned all the way down. Multi-tasking is terrible, switching from facebook to USA Today to twitter is completely laggy. i bought this tablet as something to use instead of lugging my laptop all around the house with me, but to be honest, id rather sit on my laptop if it meant i didnt have to wait 30 seconds to a minute just for the XDA site to load. for this tablet being a quad core, it runs slower than my dual core phone. battery life also, has seemed to be an issue. one movie on netflix over a very stable wifi with brightness turned all the way down will run out my whole battery. also ive tried a few games, since its advertised as a tegra 3 gaming tablet, and games such as GTA and NOVA arent even very good, frame rate is slow and laggy.
Another thing that i was disappointed with were the number of roms/kernels/tweaks i could do to the machine. now im not trying to discredit the devs, i know they do a TON of work on the roms and such that are out there, so dont flame me, however ive found that even most of the custom roms for our TFP dont really come with alot of custom options, unless you go with CM9 or AOKP.
my mom just bought a new ipad, and i know i know its apple they such blahh blahh and yes, the lack of customizability would absolutely drive me insane, but the browser is wicked fast, the battery life is incredible, and switching between apps is completely seamless. everything youd expect from a $500 tablet
now right now i am running the latest version of AOKP, and the above is all of the things that i keep running into. however, i have run multiple stock and custom roms, and they all seemed to give me the same problems. if the problems im running into are rom based, then please by all means point me in the right direction. i certainly do not know everything about android.
sorry this post is long, but i dont know what im going to do, i definitely not happy with my prime, but when it comes down to the specs, its the best tablet on the market. i guess if in a week or two im still not happy with it ill return it, but if theres anything any of you know that will spark a new love for my prime, id greatly appreciate it.

I think 95% of people on this forum are tired of these threads appearing. Why didn't you post your comments in a thread like this:

I presume your intent was to start a flame war. Enjoy it while it lasts. I hope the mods put this thread out of its misery ASAP
What people should do instead of posting this kind of thing here is send Asus an email.
I'm not saying the email wouldn't just vanish into the ether, but complaining to other users isn't going to accomplish anything.
If you're unhappy, email Asus and let them know.

The problem with the first post of that thread is there's nothing about the lag/browser/io.
You should of RMA it before you unlocked for WIFI.
I have 2 primes, Unlocked and running AKOP
I must say i disagree with everything you say. My tablet is FIRE
Speed is nuts.
Now all we need is a win8 port =)
What kind of customization are you looking for exactly? I do most of mine through widgets, apps, launchers, and live wallpapers, which are mostly rom independent (except the cornerstone roms, which can't use live wallpapers)
And the kernel you use can also affect your wifi experiences.
Try installing Ad Free, it will make your browsing experience much smoother

i agree for one part: aopk is realy snappy. but stock based (androwook) owns it by far in terms of stability and battery life.
we need best of 2 worlds.
in both cases extremely bad IO write speed which causes slowdowns and queueing. this is realy a bugger, hope its fixable.
I realize all some of the things I mentioned have been talked about before, the reason I posted was to see if there was something out there that I was missing that would improve my experience. All you trolls do is look for people to flame. If you really want to contribute to the community how about you help someone out that just spent $500 on a tablet that doesn't deliver what it said it would. So thanks trolls for encouraging me to return this tablet even more. Great community, real helpful. At least the people in the E4GT threads try to do something about the problems they find with their device, instead of just flaming people

Ya, a noob that claims to have done months of research on the Prime before deciding to buy one. If you did all that research wouldn't you have known about the problems some have experienced? What we have here is an iFan troll IMHO. See how the topic eventually got to mentioning the iPad.
If I was still in the return window , this is just me my honest opinion is just return it and wait on something better , plenty of options coming up. I don't have the browser or lag problems some people have but the wifi/BT problem absolutely ticks me off, GPS was dead on mine out the box and Asus screwed up its initial dongle shipments I had to have 75 other people post in a thread before getting any response from people at corporate about it to have them send me another one. Its a great looking tablet but QC on these things is just terrible and my opinion the company isnt much better (shame on Google for going with Asus for the Nexus tablet that really irks me too), TF201 will be last Asus product I buy, you either get one thats great or one with some issue

See my post previous post about improving your web browsing experience.
We probably have different expectations, because I'm running a stock based rom as my daily driver and honestly I'm overall very happy with the experience. I don't use the stock web browser, so maybe that may be the difference, or not.
I also don't seem to notice much lag from switching between apps... then again I'm also not watching lag like a hawk either, so if it does exist, it's not enough for me to take notice.
Lastly, if you put yourself out there then just be ready for the flames to come out. It's probably true that this forum seems to have a higher ratio of trolls though... I guess some people really take this stuff too seriously. But if you let their comments get to you then they have won...

Im new to Tabs but been runnin all kinds of Custom Roms GB and ICS on my 4G Sprint Touch here @ XDA...Mines overclocked at 1.6 and Smokes...I found out the best way to improve it was to read a lotta threads and get different ideas on what to run...
Just like here Ive read a lot of threads ran about 5 different roms with overclocked kernels up to 1.8...My Prime also smokes...from videos to music... movies... you name it...don't notice any lag...Im runnin Wookies Prime 1.0 ...quadrants of 5200-5900 @ performance...Gummys is Super Fast as well...but to me Wooks is more stable...Im more than satisfied the way I set mine up...So just read a bit on here ...set it up the right way and Im sure you'll luv it....
And I think a lotta members on here are more than willing to help...Of course Im unlocked and rooted...Bricked it the first day...But with the help from here...got back up and runnin in about an hour... haven't had a problem since...

I am sorry that the Prime isn't all you were expecting it to be. I am glad you did months of research before posting here, however had you done so you would have noticed three things for sure:
Many people have the same issues as you, and there are threads already addressing the specific issues you mention.
We just had a major ****-storm on this forum over the massive number of duplicate posts talking about the same issues and problems.
Starting threads that are duplicates of topics that already exist on the forum is a "no-no" according to XDA forum rules.
Again I am sorry that the Prime doesn't meet your needs, and I am very sorry for some of the replies you have gotten in this thread. All I can say is people are a little more sensitive to duplicate posts, especially ones that complain without offering any possible solutions to the problems that are the source of the complaint.
If your Prime didn't met your needs you should have returned it to the store before voiding your warranty trying to fix the problem. You still might want to give this a try, or try exchanging it for another Prime and tell them that WiFi isn't working properly as it is an issue most retailers know about. Most retail locations won't check a device to see if its bootloader has been unlocked.
Also if your problem is specifically with Wifi performance, or at least, you phrase it that way to Asus, there is a good chance they will still allow you to RMA the Prime as they have done so for several other people on the forum.
Is not your xda here....

I have flashed every ROM that exists for the Prime, and all have their own minor issues.
For my Prime, I have to say the new Androwook Prime custom ROM is the best there is.
If you haven't tried it yet, do it... you have nothing to lose but a few minutes of your time.
Just go read the (95% positive) feedback and you'll want to try it.... it's got freakin Sony Bravia engine in it man It is the fastest ROM I've ever run, super stable, no browser lag or not responding messages, and the WiFi is great. I do like AOKP and Gummy but WiFi sucks on my Prime with those ROMS.
Give it a shot man... come back tonight and let me know how it worked out for ya.
Oh, BTW... after installing Androwook, I got an app called GMD GestureControl... wow it's amazing. Ceck into that too... in love with my Prime even more than ever.

I agree with this 100%
@OP don't take none of the remarks personal. I feel your gripes. Its just that EVERYONE is really frustrated. Especially on duplicate complaint threads. the reason for that is because most are posted just complaining without trying to find a solution or answer to the problem. I know it wasn't this in your case, but just saying in general. People in the Prime forum are actually very helpful and like the other forum you described. Everyone is on edge with this device. We have primes that work great and people satisfied with them & then we have people with primes that have issues and are unhappy. So don't take the flaming remarks to heart.
Try that rom like jaycustom said, since you are unlocked. if your main gripe is wifi, just call Asus and see what they can do. you never know, they might just go on and fix your device although its unlocked. people have had success with that route.
good luck on finding a solution and don't be discouraged.
thank you hairdewx and jaycustom for actually responding with something useful. the reason i posted was to learn. learn more about the device i have and how to set it up the right way to get the results i want. i like the androwook custom rom, but i really like the toggles of AOKP, i use them ALOT. i will try your suggestions and see what i can find out. i tried to use the custom build prop in the development section, but everytime i do it and follow the directions it wont boot past the asus screen. maybe im doing it wrong and i will try it again. thanks again to those of you that actually made an effort to try and help me. my post was not to *****, but yet make the best with what i had.
Love my Prime. Running Virtuous Rom and it is seemless. I have the latest build (serial # starting with C4) so I dont know if they have fixed up the wifi/GPS issues in this build but it is great.
I too am noob and did a fair bit of searching before I purchased (2 weeks ago). I was aware of the GPS/Wifi issues but had read that the new dongle fixed that but hadn't read much about lag or any other problems. All the reviews I read were extremely glowing of the tablet and most ranked their #1. Anyway I suppose I was lucky to get one that works perfectly.
Does anyone know if C4 build has all issues ironed out now? it would be great if it does but Asus should replace tab for those that are extremely unhappy.
Once again, Love my Prime!!!!!

My new E4G LTE first impressions.

I'm on day #2 of playing with this new phone. So far I'm impressed with:
Camera and camcorder (OMG!!)
Sound (get some nice headphones! Without them it won't sound any different than a pos walkman.)
speed (Quadrant standard has it at the top "Your device ************************ " NICE!")
weight (it's so light!!)
Don't like:
Reading that it might not get Jelly Bean (deal breaker)
Compared to an iPhone, speed and utility are better but stylistically an ugly GUI. IOS still feels more solid to me.
need to find a battery pull solution--one of the main reasons that I didn't get an iPhone.
Don't want to have to root this phone to make it better.
I'd say that about covers it. I have 12 days left to see if I'm going to keep this phone or not as I bought through a special that Radio Shack's having. But yeah, the Jelly Bean thing is a real crusher if it's true. I've read many different opinions on this an nothing concrete. Does anyone have more information on this?
Also, does anyone know how to disable the Gmail app? In my other rooted phones I used to delete it and use Maildroid or the native Android email app--much better.
I really want to keep this phone, the camera's just amazing (for a phone). thoughts?
Thanks.

Google made it mandatory for OEMs to support their product for 18 months...the EVO, without a doubt in my mind, will recieve the jellybean update...disable gmail app under apps>all> click gmail and top right button disables it. Or don't sync your google account?

JB isn't a huge leap like gingerbread to ICS was, even if that were true (which I doubt) that shouldn't deter you from getting this phone.
You prefer the iPhone UI? All you do is scroll through pages of apps. We call that the app drawer. Haha, everything else may be new to you, so I'm guessing you may not be taking advantage of the FAR more interesting UI of Android 4.0. Learn more, and you'll love it.

Indeed the camera and camcorder are spiffy ^^
It will get jelly bean.
Honestly, if you like the iphone gui you can probably just install another launcher or rom like MIUI once/if it gets stable.
The battery pull thing isn't that bad, and if you need to replace the battery with a new one, it is possible but it's a really involved process.
Here's where I can't really comfort you. You will most likely have to root this phone in order to stay happy with it. I thought I didn't need to because the speed and everything was so amazing and overwhelming at first, but I did. I'm not sure how much the OTA helped, but for now I believe you will be forced to root in order to compensate for the devices flaws(Wifi/3g stability & multitasking mainly). Rooting can help alleviate some of this pain and make it a strong daily driver though.
Once you root, you won't notice a large performance boost, mainly because on today's phones and our phone specifically it's powerful enough to handle most tasks already. Battery life won't change much either(I get a fairly solid day easily). Although you'll get a lot more stability out of your phone strangely.

Yea ios to me is a joke..sure the apps are nice and it is super smooth but there is nothing else to it...I get bored with ios within minutes..if.I get tired of my phone I can do a complete overhaul and completely change the look of the UI..if all android had to do is scroll through apps on sure it would be just as responsive..although its getting pretty damn close
lol no official JB on the HTC EVO 4G LTE?? What kind of BS is that? whoever told you that is full of ish.
Yeah… LOL! I thought I'd get flamed for complimenting IOS's GUI.
We're an Apple family (iPhones, iPods, MBPro, Mac Mini) and I'm the only Android user. What I mean by GUI is Apple's approach to simplicity and user fluidity. Those are all things that I liked when I used MIUI on my first EVO. It's not that I like the screens of cloned icons--yeah, that's boring. I just like how smooth everything works on iPhones and iPods--you can't deny it, it's buttery smooth! When designing user interfaces, it's often the little things that matter and Apple really seems to pay attention to that. I don't see the point of widgets, I get what they are but I don't find them useful enough to keep, like MIUI. The PANDORA widget works sometimes and I have to go into the app to remind it to play! LOL.
I'm not bashing Anrdroid or the EVO--I bought another one that I'd really like to keep. But I also appreciate what other manufacturers do. The EVO 4G LTE has fluidity in some ways especially when using Chrome--wow!
I Googled "EVO 4G LTE jelly bean" and found a bunch of posts at other android websites where some users expressed the EVO LTE might now get JB, too many to post.
Ok, thanks all for your replies--and yeah, I'll probably be rooting this phone if I keep it (probably will) just like all the other Androids I've rooted.

I'm surprised you weren't, actually. iOS is like the worst curse word around here.
Not sure how you can compare android to ios... I'd rather have my og evo than iPhone5... facepalm... evo lte will see jellybean soon, og evo will see jb...

I have both now; evo lte and sIII. My impressions so far is that the build quality is vastly superior on the HTC. I also prefer the HTC screen, for its natural look and cleaner whites. The Samsung is much more responsive and virtually lag free. Either one is great.

The PANDORA widget works sometimes and I have to go into the app to remind it to play! please link some of these. otherwise its nothing but hogwash. you actually think a FLAGSHIP PHONE thats less than 2 months old wont get JB? Thats just crazy talk.
i googled " evo 4g lte jelly bean" and im 4 pages in. nothing about the phone NOT getting JB. You may be misreading or misunderstanding that people are saying they dont think the phone will get it ''this year'' or the phone wont get it until ''spring of next year'' But nowhere have I see it say ''no jellybean for the htc evo 4g lte'' so i do beg of you to post some links.

I agree that it's crazy talk, but that's why I asked. I trust the opinions of the XDA community as its never let me down in the two years that I've been lurking and posting. I tried to find the one article that I read it on and now I can't find it. But that's ok... I believe the user may have been ranting about HTC+Sprint lagging on OTAs. Regardless, that's why I asked XDA.
LOL, it's looking less likely that I'm returning this device.

Anyone try the new LagFix app?

Has anyone tried the new LagFix apk?
It has great reviews and it seems like the developer really did his research.
Anyone try this on the note? If so, what rom setup and what are your results?
The note2 has lag???

LOL, mine certainly doesn't.
I know it has virtually no lag but I love to optimize
I think it's risky with the hard brick potential (that happened on the sgs2 and original note) and the brick check app says is unknown. Especially considering there's no lag to begin with.

Tested and working on my Galaxy Tab 2 7.0, although on my Thunderbolt which is also rooted all it says it's

I'm all for optimizing and all that, but to use a potentially harmful "lagfix" on a device with absolutely zero lag to begin with is retarded IMHO.
The game bike race which isn't very demanding at all has lag at times....I have no idea why either...must be the game cause the phone doesn't lag at all

That's just [email protected] coding in the game software, there certainly isn't any inherent lag in the phone itself.

I agree with that.
The only way that I can see someone's GN2 lagging is if they OCed and undervolted too much which is causing some instability.
I'm not saying that to the OP. That's just a general post that was somewhat related to this topic.

I prefer 'poor coding techniques'. Making a game isn't easy and to call it crappy coding, regardless of how bad an app is, it takes time to build. No crappy code, just poor practices and techniques.

I tried the apk today. It actually does noticeably help. Things are loading a lot faster and smoother. It was being talked about in the Perseus kernel main thread, the logic behind the apk is sound and effective.
There has to be a downside to having it, either stability or battery life impact. I'll keep the n3 the way it is, 0 complaints.
Also, I've seen TONS and TONS of "tweaks" or "mods" like build.prop edits or scripts that supposedly speed up the systems.
Everytime someone introduces a new socalled tweak, many people are quick to say " much faster! ". Then I see the same people say that across 5+ different tweaks...yet after trying them all out theres no difference vs stock, lol true story.
I guess installing the 100 tweaks available will make your device extra extra extra extra extra extra extra super duper fast like on steroids. (Sarcasm)

Sure as hell works with my Galaxy Nexus, and a little for my Nexus 7 and Transformer Infinity. But my Note 2? I see no difference. No lag on this beast to begin with.
placebo pants
Have you guys actually read the sourced link I posted...the fix is derived from Linux and works on even the most high end systems...surely you don't think your phone is less in need of optimization than a suited out PC. To cut down on random searching reduces speak time and CPU load. I don't know why everyone is so against this.

Not to sound like a douche, but do you understand the research findings? I know some people just see a bunch of terms listed which they know absolutely nothing about and then assume it does something since it looks sophisticated. After all, Android is home for placebo effects.

Has anyone run a bench with the apk and checked to see whether any of the areas are sped up? Run antutu 3 times. Get average of the individual testing numbers. Then again with lag fix. If the phone is faster then surely a bench will show it. Right?
