I install jokers rom on my pbone and noticed he had removed the moto portal app. I liked the fact that i could access the partitions without having to dismount in the sdcard. I pulled the app out of yays 1024 and copied it into the system/app and set the permissions to rw-r--r-- like the rest of the apps but it isnt showing. What am i missing

I was just wondering what happens if you try to install an apk file by clicking on it if the description of it calls for it to be pushed to the phone?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Only needs to be pushed if it has to go to a certain part of the phone. Apk's can be installed with a file manager by clicking on it. Just have unknown sources checked if it's a non market app. What are u trying to install?

It will just fail. You can try this with install_flash_player.apk (for Flash 10.1). If you don't push that to /System, it will simply give you an error when you click on it.
I'm running the latest axura rom which is missing the google news and weather widget. A link was posted to an apk for it but stated it needs to be pushed. Me just out of curiosity clicked on open after I downloaded the file and since it acted like a normal apk giving me the install options I just wondered what would happen if I actually installed it that way versus the directed push way.

If it failed I would push it

I am running MR1 and am using super manger to remove my bloatware. I can not get the kindle or rhapsody apps to uninstall. I have moved both apk's from the app folder and removed the folders in their name from the SD card. Yet they are still in my app draw and working. Any ideas what I am doing wrong? I was able to remove all the Verizon crap I didn't want so I know I am doing the right steps.
What files exactly did you remove? Where were they stored?
The files I moved were kindle-oem 1.1.1.90750089-20100927.apk and vzw_rhapsody.apk, also removed two folders that were on the SD card named after both apps. I moved them all to a folder on my SD card which I made and named bloatware should I need them again for some reason. The other apps I removed are also in the bloatware folder.
I removed both of them via adb.. and they don't show up anymore.
Have you rebooted after you removed 'em?

Yes I have rebooted. I will reinstall and remove with adb to see if that will work.

Well found my issues. Turns out that both apps were updated. I uninstalled the updates and they not longer show in my app draw.
My phone keeps giving me a contacts storage FC. Tried restoring my back up and clearing all data but no luck. Could somebody please pull there apk and post it here for me to try. Don't really want to flash the rom again if i don't have too.

Did you delete anything from the rom? From what I understand about the blur contact storage is that all of those little social apps need to be there regardless if you are actually using them or not. If you deleted anything then reflashing the rom is the easiest way. If you didn't delete anything then you might need to switch roms or keep trying factory resets

I had this happen to me when I had the ICS version of Google+ installed on my phone. I uninstalled it and went back to the market version and all is well.
as unlikely as it seems, it was the blur_yahoo.apk from system/app (and its .odex too, I think) for me...just put them back in system/app
its the google + ics apk had that happen to me too uninstalled it and viola!!

Yea not sure exactly what it was but I just reflashed jokers rom and just restrored data through advanced restore and so it makes for a painless fix.

I was dumb and I was given to do permissions on Google Play, so I denied access to everything.
How do I change the access given to the app? It keeps saying I need a google account even though there is one on there right now.
It isn't like a superuser access, but I think a privacy one?
Thanks!
Anyone? It kinda sucks not being able to update or download any new apps lol
Try going to the setting>applications>management>
Select Google play and then clear the cache.

Use root explorer, find the app you are trying to fix, change to r/w, then long press and press permissions.

I couldn't find it using the Root explorer and I tried uninstalling the updates and cache.
Nothing.
I might just have to reinstall the ROM and start fresh or try something new ^_^
there should be an app in your drawer called "Pdroid"... open it and you should be able to fix it from there
Remove ur acoount from the phone in accounts and just log back in...

i have recently discovered the wonder that is swiftkey keyboard. i am running liberty rom. i would like to make this a system app, and have never done that sort of thing. help? thanks guys. i found a few threads that talked about moving the app to system and moving the lib file, but this just causes force closes even freezing android keyboard and setting permissions. i just need a point in the right direction.
so then..... almost 200 views and no response. can i just stick this in the app folder of my liberty zip? will that make it a system app?
have you tried titanium's make app a system app option?
i tried rom toolbox's same option. it moved it over, swiftkey started forceclosing, i moved the lib file to its appropriate place, and it still did nothing but force close.
it has to be swiftkey 3. i installed swiftkey x, which is the same thing without a couple features, and it went into system fine. i moved the lib files over too though, so im not sure how i would work without doing that.
These steps worked for me with Swiftkey 3 on a Verizon Galaxy Nexus:
1) Move /data/data/com.touchtype.swiftkey/lib/* to /system/lib/*
2) Use Titanium backup to move Swiftkey to system app
3) Reboot
4) Use Root Explorer to navigate to select /system/app/com.touchtype.swiftkey.apk, select "Install" then "OK"
I also used the "Odex Me" app to odex the app after moving it. No more lag with Swiftkey 3 :good:

Just moving the app to /system/app and setting permissions doesn't work?
