I wanted to do this so that I wouldn't have to press down as hard on the screen, mainly for using S2U2, but this registry key does not seem to exist. I searched the registry for 'threshold' and could not find the screen setting:
http://www.pocketpctweaks.com/pocketpc_tweaks/Minimize_tapping_Pressure
Is this possible on the mogul? Thanks.

No. not possible duue to hardware limitations. Pressing is required because of the type of touch overlay used.
This isn't a capacitive touch iphone! thank god!
When you align your screen if you use the softest touches to align it with it will make it where you dont have to touch so hard. I know it sounds crazy but I run into this issue once and realised that I was hitting the screen too hard during the calibration.

You don't like the iphone touchscreen? Why not? I wish windows mobile devices has screens like that. I do know that pressing is necessary, but how hard you must push is a setting.
Thanks for the tip about the calibration. I will try that.

It's capacitive meaning you must use your finger. I like being able to use a stylus, pen cap, finger, gloved finger, finger nail, etc, etc, etc.

I don't think this is likely. If this were true, someone could write an app to capture the touch pressure and change, say, the width of the brushstroke in a painting application (like a Wacom drawing tablet). I'm pretty sure that touch pressure for these screens is limited to ON and OFF, not variable levels.

Thanks for making me laugh lllboredlll.
yeah the quickgps is deffinetly a placebo. I've thoroughly tested using and not using this on 4 different titan's with mixed/random results, and conclude, that it does absolutely nothing.
QuickGPS to clarify (this is now off topic of the thread) saves empheris data from the internet to a file that on the original phones would be checked and the data loaded properly to use. On the titan however the file is stored, and is never checked again. Many of the people responsible for giving titan users modded phones have stated this fact. Yet n00b's, no offense, continue to preach that it works and others follow along.

Good enough for me. I will not be using it from this point forward. Thanks.
just to keep the spunk alive in this thread,,,,
as for the screen pressure.. I was pretty sure that they are xon xoff too... and that pressure sensitivity has no premise in these phones... until..........
and I may be speaking out of my arsehole,, I had loaded up a couple big apps that sucked up a bunch of memory, and at first i thought my screen had quit responding, because when i would click it with the stylus nothing would happen,, but I pressed real hard one time and it worked,, I went back to normal pressure and it didnt work,, i tried with normal pressure 5 times and no go.. then the 6th time i pressed hard and pow it took it,,, i continued doing this just to test it out,, and it did the same thing over and over again until I decided to soft reset.. then all was back to normal...
so maybe I had so much buffering or something going on with the other tsr programs running, that it caused a glitch in the pressure threshold of the screen...
just a thought,,,

I think "Yet Another Multitouch Tester" or something. There are loads of them in the market.
Yea I was just curious. I use multitouch visible test which shows coordinates as well and I tried to replicate this on my Nexus S... doesn't have that threshold though, it's similar to the Nexus One. Wonder why samsung would add that...
BTW could you tell me how many simultaneous touch inputs the screen can register? The original SGS and Nexus S can register 5 according to multitouch visible test. Nexus One as you know can do 2 but when you cross each axis they flip.

Ok so the physical touchscreen technology is very good... it's just samsung has written in this threshold movement delay, that's a bummer lol.

I think the touchscreen is so extremely sensitive they decided to fool-proof the phone.
without this "sticking" there would be no way for an average person with shaky fingers to register a TAP not a micro-SWIPE.

I doubt it. It's virtually impossible to perfectly tap on other phones and it's not a problem. I'm pretty sure 'micro-swipes' are detected by the software layer as taps.
Well does it affect the phone usage otherwise?
I just checked on 3Gs (havent got the S2 yet, damn these late release dates ) and sure enough it has the exact same delay and skip when I slowly try to scroll say web pages. Its always been good enough for me though.
I would be more interested in an accuracy test to see if there are any major issues with the hardware itself. Last test I saw showed everyone but the iPhone digitizer having abysmal performance, I remember the Droid loosing the finger signal all the time.
Any links to the touchscreen performance test you mention?
As for the "deadzone" for touch input, CyanogenMod7 for the SGS has this aswell. Furthermore, it also has a "feature" where if you move your finger slower than a certain speed across the screen, homescreens/browser pages etc will just ignore the touch input. So if you want to minimally correct the framing of a webpage, if maybe the text is just cut off on the side, you need to quickly swipe a very short swipe to get any movement on the screen. Trying to slowly change framing is not possible.
Hardware is fine though, multitouch tests has no filtering like deadzones or speed thresholds.
I have this problem to, Its definitely software I think.
I wonder if its easy to mod to get rid of this deadzone/minimum threshold for scrolling. Anyone able to take a look. Its quite annoying in some things and my old android phone didnt do this.
Angry birds doesn't bypass the problem. It's quite hard to see underneath your finger but the problem is definitely there in "Angry Birds Rio".
Scrolling in some views don't show the problem so badly, presumably because they use the relative movement of each move event, rather than the absolute distance from the down event.
Yeah problem is still there in angry birds my mistake.
Its quite annoying in nova hd when you want to move the crosshair a tiny amount. You can't because of this problem
Anyone know what file in the source could be edited to maybe stop this ?

my hunch is this source is not available, and somewhere in samsung's closed framework or similar.
i know on cyanogen rom, you can go look at the source code for ADW launcher, and you can locate the touch input source code. and you can find all the algorithms like dX, dY, that are used to register swipes, motion, scrolls, etc. its all pretty complicated and impressive code actually.
i'm sure samsung has equivalent code somewhere.
So if we got rid of touchwiz and used ADW launcher would the problem still be there?

This looks more like a kernel thing to me in the touchscreen driver...
Are we able to edit/mod/patch the touchscreen driver in the kernel or is this only something samsung can do ?

We have the sources. I'm checking out the frameworks first though in case it's obvious.
So I got the Note and downloaded my n64 emulator onto it. Runs games beautifully BUT whenever I would play anything where I had to hold a button down, like Mario Kart or F-Zero, I could control for about 20 seconds until all input died. I would then have to let go of the controls and start holding again.
I thought this was weird...so...
I downloaded multitouch testers. 2 inputs OK, 3 inputs OK but the more fingers I added the more inputs would glitch in and out. Could get up to 7 and then all touch would fail.
So...
I went to Rogers and told them my issue. One of the girls working there had a Note so we downloaded a multitouch tester on it and got the same results as my Note. Then we opened a brand new Note and downloaded a multitouch tester...same issue as mine.
So could anyone test their multitouch and post results? Thanks

This is the same thing that would happen on the Atrix. Apparently leaving your fingers in one place too long is interpreted by the software as a drop of water being on the screen and the sensor would go crazy.
I tried it on a multi touch tester and it happens everytime I leave 2 fingers in the same place. Also goes bonkers when over 7 inputs are on the screen.
With the Atrix someone actually disabled the water drop feature, maybe a similar fix can be made for the Note.

Thank you for this information. Glad to know that someone knows the cause or possible cause.
Using Antutu tester I get 7 Max inputs as well as the timing out of all inputs after 15 seconds or so.
Tested using antutu...
Touch starts going nuts at 5 inputs for me. Loss of touch at around 10 seconds (I did not time it).
Actually just did some more testing... I can make it do all sorts of crazy stuff. I can make a ghost 2nd finger, cause finger 1 to blink loss of location.
I did notice it will never time out if only one finger is on screen or if 2nd finger is continually tapping.
Also noticed that it will not register touch while using s-pen (can't think of a use anyway).
Kinda sucks as a large motivation for me was playing games. I may go look at how the atrix guys fixed theirs and see if it would apply to us.

Are you serious?
A simple game like mario on NES even requires 3. Left or right+Run+Jump
This is a serious issue. One that made me have to switch back to the Galaxy Nexus for the time being (I had a Galaxy Nexus but sold it for the Note) Its upsetting because I love to draw, and found the Note amazing...maybe I will pick up another sometime but for now I only need one device.
If I had known this I'd have never got the Note in the first place because now I own a Galaxy Nexus that I didn't personally buy brand new and maybe I will have issues with it.
Why include such a stupid feature. I've used all my androids and iphones in the past whilst it rained and it was fine. **** sakes.
Hey guys, i saw the post on the N7000 Q&A, i just tested it, can get to 10 fingers very stable, and 11 fingers (with the help of a friend) then it stops detecting, hope that helps.
To clarify the previous post, I asked on the 7000 forum if their phone had similar issues. Appears they do not. I am downloading Samsung kernel source to see if the issue is in the kernel level driver or if it is somewhere in user space.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using XDA App
just finished taking a look at kernel driver... seems to be the issue. Some code that doesn't appear in the int'l version that pertains to ghost touch checking.
Matches timeout of first finger after 4 seconds when using two fingers.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using XDA App
So which is the better option, change the timeout to something longer (I tried 20 seconds and it works fine)... or remove the functionality of the ghost touch detection all together?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using XDA
tablets are supposed to have more muti touch points then phones in theory,,,,but this is a good question, or a setting in build prop to have more responsiveness would be nice, am gonna call a friend who works at Samsung tommorow and see if there is a option for better responsiveness or if this is the best it will get,,,no game will support a 7 finger console so its unneeded and a waste,, i mean i can touch it with one hand with all fingers but testing it with two hands its just overkill in my eyes..
this is the first phone I have had out fo 10 in the past year that does not support 10.
I get 5
Well my main concern was just removing the timeout (I, like the op, like playing roms).I already made a kernel just changing the timeout, but was looking to see if people thought we should just lose the ghost touch all together.

MultiTouch Tester
Okay, so I built a kernel with ghost touch completely shut off and it has been working great (little over a day now). At the moment my plan is to run it through tomorrow and if I still have no issues I will release it hopefully sometime Sunday evening for testing. I am thinking of making a version that allows turning it off an on from userspace (or set timeout), should someone want that feature, but I don't know.
As far as 10 finger multitouch goes....
I really can't think of a single time where I thought to myself, "if only my 7th finger on the screen would register correctly.." so I will likely not bother with that unless someone shows a real need.

Ok, so me and another guy did some tests with the onex+ touch screen and found out why so many of us have issues with scrolling, we need as many people as possible to report the issue to HTC so we can get a hotfix, i dont think HTC realize at the moment, this is what to do, type in on th phone keypad *#*#3424#*#*. choose more, then choose the screen drawing option, dont draw, just touch it with your finger and see if there is a white dot, if there isnt then touch another part of the screen and then see if the previous touch shows up, if so you have the same software issue as many of us, its quite possible that its a major hardware flaw and cant be rectified in which case HTC will have to do mass repairs or recall, we are not going to stand for this at a price of £500, if you have this issue please report on HTC website, either email or chat or phone call, it needs to be done or we will have scrolling issues time and time again on each update.
What touch screen issue are you talking about? I've not heard anything about it from anyone on here. I think mine is fine. Or maybe I haven't noticed it yet.

Yup, I noticed it too. It's gone now, since I switched over to CM10. It makes no sense! (See what I did there? )
I think I'm that other guy OP was talking about. I have this scrolling issue where stuff on screen are being selected or clicked on accidentally instead of scrolling though them - but never had this problem before I updated to the most recent firmware, so I'm pretty sure this is a software thing.
Best we could do right now is report to HTC.

It would be nice to know if the problem shows its ugly head on the lte/4g versions, its def got to be reported, if its hardware they will have to recall or fix them, and they cant turn away people who are rooted or have custom roms if it hardware. Hi sharpshooterr, yes op is you, i couldnt remember your name untill i seen it lol. Same test on the onex with android 4.1.1 with sense 4+ shows the screen is perfect, theres not even any lag when drawing either. Things like this shouldnt be getting through quality control on high end flagship devices, really shows HTC is going down hill fast.
As of now i think your testing might be a little flawed, you are using the wrong test. This is a line draw test, not a touch test. Its liable to act the same for everyone when just touching. How does it draw for you? Draws fine for me. the thing about touching then touching again and both dots show is not any sort of test IMO because again this is a LINE DRAW test. Maybe download some of the touch and multitouch tests from the market and try those.
Dont get me wrong, if there is something wrong then it needs to be addressed. I applaud you for trying to bring it public. You should look into some other tests though. HTC will not pay any attention to this issue if its brought to them like this. Get some more info, more tests, different tests.. The more the merrier
With the information i've read here it does sound software related though.. custom roms can fix it and firmware updates can break it. Doesn't sound hardware to me.

Ok, ive tested the same drawing test screen on the onex, doesnt happen, soon as you touch the screen it registers under your finger, the screen has to register the first touch in that same spot your finger is on no matter what your doing, this is why its clicking in other places and rubber banding when your scrolling, its registering to late, and the line drawing lags like f---k. When your drawing your keeping your finger on it so its going to register eventually in the place you want it, its no good when your scrolling. Ive reproduced the same in gesture search, and again on the onex it doesnt do it in gesture search. Keep in mind there both running android 4.1.1 with 4+ sense, the only screen difference is the glass. If what your saying is true then the onex should be the same way so i know its not down to he test app along with the other tests ive done. Eitherway theres def a problem with scrolling.Your probably right about HTC not doing anything.EDIT: Ive decided to refund or sell it and carry on using the onex, it just seems faster, battery last longer.

With the exception of insert coin my phone is the same. I do not have this problem. Something is wrong with the rom, your kernel or your phone if you are having touch screen issues.
I am unlocked, running elegancia, rooted. I do not have TWRP flashed as there are issues charging when the battery dies. Even when i did I never had touch screen issues.
Multi touch is useless also, only 2 fingers register, on a brandnew high end device and it only supports 2 finger multitouch, oh yes, i have a touch screen app that actually registers a soon as you touch the screen, but its only one app, all others i tested do as i described so i really do not know what to think, its def not hardware, its down to the software, we should get 4.2.1 soon and hopefully it will be gone, as the op said, i dont think HTC will do anything, especially now i found an app that makes the touch work as it should. To get the device to register more than 2 fingers go into settings -Display, gestures & buttons - turn off under gestures - HTC gestures (uncheck) this will give you up to 10 multitouch points.

wow absurd huh? I can confirm that it is NOT absurd and works the way he posted it... even if you hit show touches in development, and leave htc gestures checked, none of the multitouch testing apps pick up more than 2 touches... even though you can see more, they dont register as touches in apps and games.. So... in order to have the full 10 point multitouch, no matter how absurd you think it is, HTC gestures must be unchecked.. Google it

You misunderstand, I'm saying that it's absurd that boe323's saying the device can only support up to two touches and multi-touch is useless. Since you yourself said it will register up to 10 touches with the correct setting then it IS absurd that he claims it can only pick up two. Even the HTC gesture settings clearly says 3 finger-touches so that in itself made his statement of only two-touch support absurd.
It seems that you think I'm disagreeing with ihavoc, you should improve your reading comprehension.

glad to know i am not the only one!
even it s no fun to have this bug...
Do you have a full screen protector? A case that covers or youre covering the light sensor next to the speaker?
yes i do, you think that can be the cause?

actually it s not a full screen protection, it s the film that was on the screen when i bought it.
light sensor works fine
I got mine fixed by calibrating the motion sensor in display settings.

Just did it but when i make a call, once i press the dial button, screen turns off
Sounds like your proximity sensor is covered up or not working. Do you have a screen protector or anything on the phone which might interfere with it? If so maybe remove it and retry. Also I'm sure you could find an app that would check it.

The Software is buggy and LG is not doing anything about it . I tweeted to them so many times and i thought HTC was bad.. they were amazing .. my first and last LG device .. however i am just confirming its not always proximity sensor issue .. Its the buggy software implementation.
i quite agree with you.... any idea when we get 6.0 ?
Would it be software? If we all have the same phone with the same software then we would all have the same problem, but we don't?
It's a software bug... Rebooting the phone fixed the problem, but then it starts acting the same way after few calls.

You could try( if you haven't already), wiping your sensors. They sometimes get dirty & don't work properly.
I have same issue and have no protectors or covers or nothing just the stock phone. I think it's got to be some stupid software issue and it is very irritating. Went from one ridiculous phone into another headache...

Drama much? The phone has been out for barely more than a month... and not every phone is having this issue.
Process: Collect as many bug reports as possible, recreate and fix issues, release a patch.
LG is not going to release a patch just for your particular problem because you tweeted really hard.

Retarded much ? I did not tweet to them about this problem, many people did. I tweeted then wrt their update roadmap and yes the phone should not be out in the first place if it has such obvious bugs you are clearly not aware how responsible companies work. I rest my case. If you are happy then enjoy.

Well people value their money and thats why when they feel they have inferior product the will complain. Like micro scratches on the screen, bleed on second screen, back peeling off .. and if you dont have this issue does not mean these issues dont matter and it also means serious quality control issues at LG. You for one needs to get over yourself and respect other people's problems, i have none of the above problems except the software bugs, i still feel compassionate towards fellow community members who might have recieved inferior quality devices. I clearly understand your personality type, "I dont care if the whole world goes to hell if i dont have a problem i am good." You should try to be less selfish and i am sure i am not the first one in your life to call you selfish. Think about why those people think you are selfish.

Firstly, Take a chill pill all
All u need to do is adjust the timeout time [emoji6]
Search within settings for "timeout"
Or go to Display settings
