I am running skyraider GB and my volume rocker is completely sunken into case and has no tactile feedback or response whatsover. Verizon is sending me out a replacement but I cannot navigate through hboot to return to stock.
Need some suggestions...
Is there a tethered RUU method I can use?
Should I just send it back the way it is?
Should I drop it hard and send the replacement back and do it through asurion?
If I send it for warranty and they call me out on it will they send it back, or just charge me for a new one?
Any input is helpful at this point.
I took an old palm stylus and forced in in there like I do your mom and it worked, thank god. Thanks for the motivational responses.
You should be able to use the RUU from JCase's stickie in the dev section to return to stock if you have adb installed.
Put the files on your SD, then use adb:
adb reboot bootloader
Hitting the power button should initiate the hboot check for the file.

Yeah, but I think you need to push vol-up to tell it to actually update it. That's kinda where my mind got stuck in the whole thing. Don't know how to get around that.

Yup, you are right. I guess he's toast unless he can maybe pull the rocker off and use a pen or something to accept the update.

yeah, push by abd. youll be fine.
Someone had a problem similar to this a while back (not sure how severe compared to this one) but they were able to use a straight pin or something to press VolUp when needed as suggested above.
Maybe this is too simple, but how about pulling the battery cover off. This allows the rocker to push down further.
Just a thought.

So hard to type. I'm using a mhl cable. Screen is black. Works on tv tho. Just trying to wipe phone before sprint gets it. Root etc. Any help?
just run the RUU on it, once thats done if your S-Off, just get your phone into hboot, press power that should get you into fastboot, plug usb in, issue command to turn S-ON.
Honestly I would just take it in, they can't deny insurance on rooted phones. They might fight with you on, but you are paying for insurance, they have to fix it.
Saw your on HBoot 1.50, doesn't matter what you do they can tell, it'll say Re-locked in the hboot menu.
I don't care about root and unlocked they already ordered me a new phone I just want my other stuff off. Just looking for an easy way.

Use adb to wipe your phone. Take your sdcard out before it sending it to Assurion.
I doubt they will even look at the internal memory before they completely wipe and RUU and replace the screen. they won't care.
it's a hardware problem anyway, nothing memory related
if you are worried about your personal info being stolen, if they do steal your personal info off the phone they will have some big legal troubles

I unrooted my old one and still show s-off... How do you issue a command to turn s-on?
Sent from my PG86100 using xda premium
Ok guys, yes...I'm a noob...
I did a master reset on the phone and now I get nothing...
It won't turn on unless I plug it in to the charger.
When it does turn on, all I get is a few vibrations, and
the icons at the bottom light up.
I can get windows to see the two "drives" of the phone,
but they are empty (have 0 bytes if you right click and check properties. If you left click, it says please insert disc).
I've tried a new battery and my battery turns another phone on...
I've also tried two cables and two PCs.
It hasn't been rooted or messed with, the battery died and I went to charge
it and nothing...I left it on charge overnight and at least see a bit life.
Any ideas, or should I just send it on to HTC??
So that others have a better idea... can you get into hboot or fastboot?
try a nwe battery

he said he already tried a new charged battery, so it can't be that. I'm thinking his phone's OS might be gone so he should probably installed a RUU or something.

Can't see anything come up on screen...
no idea what mode it's in, hboot, fastboot or anything ??!?!!
Think it might be possible to install just a stock (Tmobile) RUU?? If so, how ?????

There isn't a way if your phone isn't detected or you can't get into hboot. Meaning you have no control over your phone to do anything.
Anyways, for htc warranty exchanges that is done with tmobile... they usually send you the phone first and then you send one back in return. Unless your policy is different. So i suggest you calling them immediately.
Update
I can go into control panel and "see" the phone listed in device manager under portable devices as "F" and "G". Click properties and they are found as HTC devices. Does this mean I can do anything to it? I just want my phone back working as fast as I can. Sending it in will take a while. I bought this phone for the camera. We have a 1 yr old and don't wanna miss the Christmas pics...

are you on tmobile? they usually send within 2 days, their distribution center is in texas or something. I usually get it next day.
You said your screen doesn't turn on or doesn't show anything. It's gonna be hard to determine what you're doing even if you can run ADB to put it in oem fastboot and to flash a RUU that way. But it sounds like your display might be a problem too then. It'll be quicker to do an exchange. If you call in today, they'll probably ship it on monday and you'll get it wednesday latest. unless you have tmobile insurance plan. it should be next day and you'll get it tuesday.
Thanks
Well that might work for me then...can't hurt to give it a try.
Thanks a bunch for letting me know !!!
No problem, I had my fair share dealing with tmobile exchanges lol.
If you purchased directly from tmobile it should be very easy to do an exchange because your warranty is verified.
If you bought it off craigslist/ebay. sometimes the previous users used a different carriers that makes the warranty no longer verified. HOWEVER many customer reps will still try to process the exchange (you can determine by their upbeat personalities lol).
If you run into someone who won't do it, just call again and talk to another rep. Most of the time they will push it through because it's still a newly released phone.
Have you already contacted T-Mobile support? You'll have to talk to them anyway before they agree to replace your phone.
The reason I am asking this is because there might be an unpublished backdoor way to restore your device if your device is not completely (hardware-wise) dead. For example, Dell Streak has a complete firmware image on its internal SD card and you needed to somehow trigger an IPL routine to restore the device to its original condition.
I haven't heard of anything similar on HTC devices yet, but hey, it's just a thought. And if there actually is a way, and you are the first one to post it here, you'll be a hero!

yeah we normally just flash a RUU, but you can't even see the screen, so we can't even be certain that we're in the correct modes to be flashing and stuff. because we require to ADB it to restart in fastboot, but we can't even see if its going to fastboot. or if it already is in fastboot to begin with, so we're not certain which commands to run with the screen being off. Well you can always try commands and it should only work in certain modes, but do you really want to do it blindly? I would rather just exchange the thing.
Not afraid to try....
Well, I can't use it as it is...exchange is a hassle even in 2-3 days. Can't do anything until tomorrow anyway. I was thinking today, I've heard they can port Android to iPhone...there's no fastboot there, is there ??? Soooooo, if it's turning on, I should be able to do something...I want my phone back !!!
Edit: I misunderstood the issue

If its not the hardware, it can be the kernel problem. Do you see anything in your bootloader (vol down + power while phone is off)?

You could always try going back to stock. If you are s-on, bout the phone into fastboot, connect to pc, relock the bootloader and run the ruu.exe. You'll have to HTC unlock again. If you're s-off, just run the ruu. You'll keep s-off, but be completely stock otherwise.

i'm s-off but if the screen is black how do i put it in fastboot.?? with sdk.?? if so what commands do i need to run to do what you are saying i do have a copy of the original stock rom and i do want to stay s-off
If you don't have a light at all(even the "black" one), I suggest to take your phone to service because if that is kernel problem, you would have a bit of light. If that is not possible, open your phone and check if there are any irregularities. If you dropped your phone, cable could detach from motherboard. It is not hard to disassemble..you can find youtube video.

Unless he's made a habit of dropping his phone in the exact same way, I very much doubt that would help.
If it were a kernel issue your boot loader would have worked all the same (boot loader loads the kernel and is independent of it)
As it's not the screen itself and not a software problem it's probably either the GPU being fried or some other piece of electronics between it and the screen connector ( maybe even the connector itself). As far as I know the "fix" for this is replacing the motherboard or the entire phone. As you've opened the phone I'm going to assume you're not under warranty in which case either repair option is quite expensive... a new PCB is generally over 50% of the phone's value and will most often prevent you from ever unlocking the phone via htcdev;
I was given a htc DNA and it's been one headache after another. It had a cracked digitizer, s-off, eng hboot, unlocked boot loader and a custom recovery installed on it when it was given to me. Trying to make a long story short, I ended up having to replace the board with the sim card reader on it and immediately after putting the new board in the cameras quit working along with the speakers and microphone. I was able to get all but the cameras working, but then I bricked it, and here is how. I was attempting to return back to stock, relocked the boot loader, was attempting to use a ruu which wasn't working, so I decided to unlock my boot loader again. The story ends with me attempting the unlock with ez-unlock, and when I did it said successful and I was able to keep using the phone as normal, but after turning the phone off it wouldnt turn back on, and the only sign of life comes when I plug it into my computer. As soon as i connect it to my computer, htc sync manager opens up but says no phone connected, device manager will show the phone as my htc and android 1.0.. I've experienced similar signs of life from an htc vivid, but it's issues were due to a bad battery, so I am hoping for the best but expecting this to end with jtag. Can anybody help me out please, it would be great to not require jtag services, but it would be better yet if I could gain a better understanding of at least what went wrong. Thank you

Sadly no, I can't get it to boot at all. I also need to mention that the lights don't come on when it's plugged in either. I'm thrown for a loop by it all because my computers will still react to it if I hook it up to them with usb, but that's about all they will do. Why would sync manager open up when I plug it in, but then state that there is no device connected.
Ive seen where people have said to leave phone charging for 24 hours without trying to turn it on and it worked. I've also seen people run a calibration test on the battery but I forgot how to do it.

EZ-Unlock is an unsupported method by the DNA hardware. It will always cause a hard-brick. Which you have done. I did this to myself at one point, too. I tried EZ-Unlock and it hard-bricked my DNA. Call Verizon. Tell them that it just randomly started doing this. Don't mention root or anything. They'll replace it for free. That's what I did.
Sorry about that bud. Try to do some more research before modding your phone next time.

Well thank you for your feedback, and assistance. I owe most everything I know about phones to XDA and it's members! Regarding my situation with the DNA, yup sure enough it is bricked. I figured it was, but have had similar reactions from a bad battery in the past, so.. Regarding the process of unlocking the boot loader, this is the first time I've ever directly seen anything regarding the cid. Not sure if maybe it has been part of the process in ways that I was unaware of in the past with other phones or if this is more device specific, but either way would anybody possibly know where I could find more in depth information regarding this and if there is anybody who is knowledgeable with this that wouldn't mind helping somebody out?
sorry for the run on sentences lol
oh, and thank you for the referral to Zarboz, I will definitely be getting in touch with him.
