you thought they wouldnt infect it with touchwiz? lol where have you been
(assuming this is true) as much a visual difference is slightly disappointing, a guts upgrade to ICS is really what matters most. I'll take a normal UI that operates faster than a fancy UI any day.
I like how the one ****ty leaked Rom that was posted gives them the basis to write this article.
Correction, no ICS interface for non-rooted stock phones.

personally, I dont care too much for a couple of reasons. 1. I actually liked Touchwiz (at least 4.0+) and 2. I wasn't going to be running stock anyway, so if I really need that ICS interface, CM9 will 90% sure be on our phones. And, at least we're (by that I mean the Galaxy S 2) getting the update. Look at the Captivate for example
Most of us won't bother with stock samsung UI so it won't matter. CM9/MIUI V4 is in my future.
Non-issue article. Move along.
Touchwiz 4.0 on Android 2.3: Looks great!
Touchwiz 4.0 on Android 4.0: Dear god that looks ugly.
Since when did people start believing that if we got ICS that it was going to AOSP? We didn't get AOSP gingerbread.....its why all firmware releases are delayed. It gives manufacturers time to put on their UI......not to mention AOSP ICS is the corniest looking POS I have ever seen......the icons are way oversized.....the corny folder crap we have had on GO for a year. I am so glad to see TW covering up that abomination. Give me the guts to optimize my dual core and get the rest the hell outa here.

I disagree, touchwiz covers up the best parts about ICS, it went well with touchwiz 4 on gingerbread because it looks better than stock gingerbread. Stock ICS IMO is way ahead of anything else on the market
The article is referring to the leaked roms on the I9100 there is still time for Samsung to wrap ICS up in a newer/revamped TW UI.

I actually dont care either way the looks can be changed easily for both rooted and non rooted people. Honestly after having ICS'd out on my phone for a daily driver for a good while I switched to MIUI because the color combo of ICS gets old quick
doesnt bother me, i love touchwiz and i just wanted ICS underhood features... this is GREAT news for me... looks perfect, i would miss it if it was removed... i dont think ICS looks all that amazing IMO
I'm positive we'll get a good version of ICS whether it be official or from a DEV what difference does it really make?
not much it will be here within the next three months either way

I know we don't have any ICS kernel sources yet but do you think we will get ICS before this August?
I thought I read somewhere that we were getting it in the next month or two. I would assume we would have a good working ICS port at the least in the next month or two. Can't speak for the devs here, but I thought that's what we were looking at. As for when ATT will push it out, that could be forever...I hate how long they take, but oh well.

Having used ICS on the captivate, it truly is an update worth switching devices for. However, I'm pretty happy with the I777 so I will just wait. Android updates that were actually really good: Froyo, Honeycomb, and ICS. The rest were just hyped too damn much and gingerbread is the worst of all of them (imho).
Wow. Use the sticky thread.

For one, it's not just ICS when Jellybean comes out, you're going to get it much quicker than anyone else. And also, it's the purest form of the Android version minus any bloatware each manufacturer puts on the phone, which can be either a pro or a con, but overall, the bloatware has been a con in the past.
IMO, Gingerbread was a very good update, Froyo didn't seem that special when I finally got it for my S7. The biggest improvement was non-broken radio firmware, which had nothing to do with Android version.
Gingerbread had significant power management improvements.

I love and appreciate all the work that the Devs have done for our phone, but if we don't get ICS soon I will be leaving this phone. What the hell is your problem? Name one phone other than the Nexus line that has received ICS officially.
HTC hasn't released any updates yet.
Motorola hasn't released any updates yet.
Sony has only released betas (I applaud them for putting out prereleases)
Asus has only pushed it to one tablet (easier to port HC tablets due to HC being a newer codebase and not having to deal with the RIL) and that was an utter disaster
So far, my experience with ICS is that it's not an improvement over Gingerbread. I haven't been able to see any significant positive improvement - some parts of the UI are a bit shinier, but the gapps user interface is clunker than it was in GB. ICS has some good improvements on tablets, but for phones - not so nice.

First of all I said that I APPRECIATE the devs!!!! And I never said that the roms were official. Almost all HTC and LG phones have ICS roms. I left t-mobile with the htc sensation and believe me that phone runs 300% better now that it is running ICS. And by the way Entropy it is no disrespect to any dev by what I said, I am rocking your Kernel right now (Excellent job). I am pissed at Samsung and them only. Our phone is supposed to be a flagship phone so what the hell is the holdup?
If you can't wait then just go get the G Nexus. These questions have been brought up and beaten to death. Just don't be surprised when Ics finally drops for our device and our Roms are superior than most. GS2 surely has the hardware to run prety much anything smoothly and dev community is strong here

Having just come from the inspire 4g, I've had the luxury of having asopx, which if you search their forum you'll see its as close to Google source as possible with all the cm crap gutted, I've been hoping to see one pop up over here but didn't know if perhaps there just wasn't any demand here in Samsung land. Anyway the phone is awesome, just dislike touchwiz, and want the bare bones stock look and feel of ics, to which I can then customize from there. Seems like all the roms thus far have traces of touchwiz and or tons of cm tweaks and apex lanuchers and all that nonsense that we should have the ability to add from a bare bones build, kinda like a foundation to then just customize from there.
Please show some love if you want this as well, would gladly donate for some dev to get on it :beer:
CM9 and AOKP are the closest things you will get to a pure AOSP OS.
If you wanted guaranteed pure AOSP, you should've bought a Nexus device.
BTW, that "CM crap" as you put it, vastly improves the ability of the OS. As does (and this is my opinion only) Touchwiz4.

Instead of criticizing why not try helping? There actually is a pure AOSP based ROM that we recently got support for named Codename Android. I'm not sure if it 100% running on our phone yet but they are working to do so.

Codename Android on my Nexus S [link] is really nice. It was one of my favorites. If we could see that (at some point) on our phones, that would be awesome.
I built and ran AOSP ICS 4.0.3 for my Nexus S and I have to say that while I did it just to see it work, I didn't run it long as I missed the features that CM and other open-source projects such as Codename Android have to offer. But, to each their own.
Just my $.02.

Sorry if this post came off as if I was some form of elitiest, I was merely suggesting that if we had a nice bare bones build people can thank tweak as they saw fit, I do not claim to be an Android developer and if I could I would love to build what I'm requesting, unfortunately I do not posses those skills ,hence attempting to lure in unsuspecting developers with donations as I do respect and understand the amount of developers that do this in their spare time while maintaining real life jobs. Secondly, my past experience with cm has been poor with the inspire, perhaps it was just not as highly regarded in the inspire space as it is elsewhere. Cm just didn't play that well with that device, perhaps I was too quick to judge having moved devices.
For those on akop, is it the stock launcher, email, and messaging apps? They don't have any screen shots? I'd like to get away from touchwiz

I share this opinion. I can honestly say if I had to choose between my GS II and the Galaxy Nexus with a locked boot loader, and not rootable, I would take the GS II every time. I would not choose to run Stock ICS over CM9, AOKP, or like stated above, TouchWiz (on ICS).
As others said give AOKP a try. Its definitely daily driver stable and complete. It looks like stock ICS but adds so many features. Things like the power toggles in the notification shade, adding apps to the lock screen as shortcuts, the list is huge. I can't make a firm decision between SHOstock2 and AOKP. I spend a week on one, then swap, repeat. I think people give TW a hard time. Its not sense, its not in your face and leeching into every part of the phone. Its really subtle once you put on a different launcher, even the official att builds. When I run AOKP I miss the TW music player (with controls in the lock screen and notification shade), the video player, and the camera more than anything else. When I run TW builds I miss the people/phone app and calendar. Those are the differences to me between TW and AOSP, a vast majority of the ICS experience is the same in the two.

Maybe some devs are just blown away by the options - or maybe they don't think this device is that popular? Blow them away by voting and showing how in demand their services are - and for what!
There is a lot of variety out there right now- and with the official ICS leak these things SHOULD be much more possible, so let me ask you what flavor of ICS do you want the most?
All examples are from vibrant because I have tested all of them on my old phone.. many of the more popular devices have them all.
Ports/official:
Slim ICS - Clean, Simple, and fast - the google way - as barebone aosp as it gets.(Can you say a 75mb download?)
Something like MIUI - A feature heavy nearly total redesign of Android - everything about this type of rom is different - but most of you probably know that. Easily themable in every aspect. Some of the features are here(don't forget it takes advantage of all the new features of ICS)
AOSP(Android open source project) - Either official CM9 or pure AOSP - the stock experience without our blessed "SenseUI" we all have come to love/hate - CM9 of course has some extra features.. and is also easily themable.
AOKP(Android open kang project) - Much like a feature rich version of CM9, while still aiming at a stock experience - if you want to know the differences click here(or check some of the features here)
SenseUI+ - Do you just want modified Senseui with some tweaks? Maybe some root, crt displays, power menu options.. just a stock+ experience? If so go to the development section, it has only been a week yet some good roms seem to be popping up all over(*cough* signature *cough*).
I like stock - HTC and Tmobile decide what I should use, and that's the way I like it! The most I could ask for, if I was feeling risky, is to get a little bit of root. Maybe.
Gingerbread - Damn this new radio! My battery sucks! Life sucks! How dare they leak a rom that isn't even finished! Those @ss&*#(s!
I'm gonna buy a new phone - You guys are noobs, I'm gonna buy a new phone!
If I missed an option, I'm sorry.. send me a PM and I'll see if I can add it to the list- but these are some of the choices out there, maybe help out devs and the potential ones alike by shouting at them all in one place!(rather than in their threads- I'm pretty sure they hate that.)

Hi All
I have a UK Galaxy S3 and would like to root and install a clean Vanilla ICS ROM.
Please can someone advise on best method of roooting and which ROM to use?
I'm being cautious as I don't want to brick my phone.
Many thanks in advance.
Do you mean Non-Touchwiz? Because I'm yet to find one that is like that.
I'm also on the look out for a Touchwiz ROM that's been themed to be blue and black like the ICS colours
Yes non touch wiz please as I hate it. Why do these stupid manufacturers spend so much money and resource to create something that is pointless. ICS already has everything anybody could want from a launcher.
I installed cm9 on my S2 and it was epic, I guess cm9 isn't out for the S3 yet?

MY problem with using non-Sammy ROM's is a lot of features get lost. I'm after a ROM/theme that's truely ICS themed but totally black and blue like most of the apps. Sammy are just teasing me, because even in stuff like the RAM and Task manager it's blue and black ICS themed but they have this ugly light blue and green battery stuff going on

Well for instance in the CM9 ROM it looks like a lot of the camera features are gone. You just have dumb picks "SD, HD 720, HD1080" etc. I dunno. It was the same on my HTC Desire. I had Oxygen on there for the longest time and it was ok, but it didn't have the same functionality as the Sense ROM's (though it was much quicker and more stable which is why I kept it regardless. My GF uses it now and loves it).
I just want one that is touchwiz, but looks exactly like ICS:
This for instance:

It's just not compatible with my ROM (and I never had any luck getting it on odex or deodex'd ROM's. There's an update due tomorrow!
Slim ics is built from aosp source with a few choice picks from cm9 and aokp, fast smooth, and good battery, but if you want vanilla ics then you need to buy a nexus
